Same observed here with 15.10. I consider this as a security concern, too. You
may try:
   gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver ubuntu-lock-on-suspend 'true'
It worked for me
Kind regards

[Bug 1372578] [NEW] plugin requires xqproxy on server, but none is available from packages

2014-09-22 Thread Daniel Stoni
Public bug reported:

Hello
this is how to reproduce
- install remmina-plugin-xdmcp
- configure to access server via ssh
- ssh can not find xqproxy on server

there is appearently no package from repos available where xqproxy can
be found in.

you may get xqproxy from https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=579027 and build/install.

unfortunatley remmina now terminates connection with another error
message (translated)

Command xqproxy on SSH Server failed (Status == 4)

Of course I may/will use VNC instead, but still it's a pity to find this
not working.

[Bug 1312717] [NEW] keyboard layout is reset after gnome-shell crash or restart (Alt-F2 - r - enter)

2014-04-25 Thread Daniel Stoni
Public bug reported:

We're using 14.04 with gnome-shell on 2 laptops and 2 pcs. Gnome-shell
occasionally crashes - or we need to reset the shell when undocking the laptop
as some gnome-shell extensions don't recognize the new resolution. Whenever
this occurs, the keyboard layout is initialized (to UK) and has to reconfigured
(to swiss german in our case).

There is another system with gnome-shell 3.12 (from ppa) on 14.04. It
shows the same effect.

[Bug 1281996] [NEW] open gnome-terminal minimizes immediately when selected

The system runs trusty with gnome-shell. Intermittently, the running
gnome-terminal can not be activated anymore - neither from dash, nor from
alt-tab - the window minimizes immediately. Applying Alt-F2 'r' recovers from

[Bug 1028436] Re: no partitions seen in installer dialog, gparted shows partitions correctly

2012-07-26 Thread Daniel Stoni
Hello, I did some further research and recognized this as an ancient issue.
Partman fails under certain conditions - for example unordered partition
numbers. Thus, I've removed the extended partition with it's logical drives and
recreated the partitions with installer / partman instead of using gparted.
Before, I've created the last logical drive first, this time the logical
drives were created starting at the beginning of the extended partition.

[Bug 910796] Re: lightning-extension 1.1 (precise) is not compatible with thunderbird 10.0

2012-02-04 Thread Daniel Stoni
Hello all
since Thunderbird is replacing Evolution, special care should be taken that
users have continued access to their calendars. Too often, new Thunderbird
versions in the repositories break compatibility with lightning (or gdata or
timezone), making calendar data unavailable to users. Unfortunately, we've been
observing this in previous Ubuntu Versions, also. As long this is the case,
Thunderbird cannot considered as full replacement for Evolution for production
environments
One might address this by always ensuring that the combination of
thunderbird+lightning+dependencies is fully functional before adding new
versions of Thunderbird to the Ubuntu Repos.
Kind regards, dsto

[Bug 910796] Re: lightning-extension 1.1 (precise) is not compatible with thunderbird 10.0

2012-02-04 Thread Daniel Stoni
I understand. I will have particular attention on future problems with
stable and let you know.

Back to the issue. Having a fully functional and tested calendar
available is crucial when positioning ubuntu versus win/outlook.
Lightning/calendar is not just another add-on but an important component
of todays linux desktops as soon as one decides to omit Evolution.
Delivering a 12.04 beta without calendar is no option anymore. As you
choose to introduce a Thunderbird beta I'd suggest to include the
appropriate nightly build of lightning. Please consider.

[Bug 645449] Re: Ubiquity hangs at Keyboard layout if you use keyboard to navigate / select

2011-11-28 Thread Daniel Stoni
the pain about features and defects. investments usualy go into features
(unity, +-couchdb, u1, music store, other questionable changes) and not
into defects. the bad side about this particular one is that it makes
80% of any people interested to leave ubuntu immediately. This hurts
Ubuntu, Linux and Free and Open Source Software over all - in a most
sustainable way, I'm afraid.

[Bug 841105] Re: Laptop does not resume from standby

2011-09-20 Thread Daniel Stoni
Hi, I'm on oneiric alpha and beta since about two months and work with the
system many hours each day with many suspend/resume cycles. Did a plain new
install about one week ago. Today, PC ceased to resume from standby. Sstem
briefly wakes up and immediately goes to standby. Full hard reset is required.
System is a Thinkpad X61T. Regards, Dani

[Bug 614274] Re: modem-manager fails to recognize 3G modem after suspend/resume

2011-08-31 Thread Daniel Stoni
Hello all, please note that problem still exists in natty / modemmanager
0.5-0ubuntu1, although since the latest update it looks as the modem is
recognized automatically some minutes after resume. So workaround is
still required: have a script or resume rule killing modem-manager - it
will recover by itself, recognize the modem, ask for the PIN and make
the modem available in network manager.

[Bug 645449] Re: Ubiquity hangs at Keyboard layout/Ready when you are

Hello
there is one safe way: don't use the keyboard in the selection box. Then - with
the mouse - scroll the list until you see your country and then click directly
onto the country name. Indeed, this bug is very annoying and likely to frighten
thousands of possible new users.

[Bug 645449] Re: Ubiquity hangs at Keyboard layout/Ready when you are

2010-12-20 Thread Daniel Stoni
Hi all, I'm doing a lot of installations these days and encountered this
problem several times, with plain ubuntu installations of 10.10 as well as with
remastered ubuntus containing all fixes per today. It is difficult to
reproduce, but it is best being forced entering country names: use german
language, proceed to keyboard layout page, enter 'SCHW' - selector jumps to
SCHWEDEN, now enter 'SCHWE' for Switzerland - content in the right selection
box is stucked displaying swedish keyboard layouts. No way out. The same
happens when when language is set to english: press 'SW' - then 'SWI' ...
Please have a look at this, it might be very annoying to new users.
Kind regards, dsto

[Bug 503616] Re: mondo package doesn't cope with grub2

2010-02-10 Thread Daniel Stoni
Hello all,
please note that this bug completely inhibits use of mondo on any newly
installed ubuntu system. Updated Version of mondo is available from
http://www.mondorescue.org/ where they state that grub 2 support is available
in 2.2.9. There are many other important changes in this new version.
Strange observation: if you download the 2.2.9 package from mondorescue site
and try to install, gdebi complains about 2.2.7 being newer. You have to
uninstall 2.2.7 first. Same with mindi.
Kind regards, dsto

[Bug 497804] [NEW] locale=ch support required for livecd

2009-12-17 Thread Daniel Stoni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: uck

Hello

I'm seeking for full support for locale=ch to build a localized Remix. This
report might affect one of the following packages.
- uck 2.0.10 and before
- gfxboot-theme
- console-setup / preseeding

I've been studying all the scripts, config files and includes, did a lot
of investigation and testing but could not spot the area where to
address this properly. It appears that any kernel params are getting
overwritten by gfxboot (locale= bootkbd= console-setup/...=).

The requirement is:
- start live environment in german/french/italian/english language (from
gfxboot) with german as default
- have swiss german keyboard ([ch]) per default

options:
- hide other keyboard layouts from gfxboot menu except the ones of interest
(ch, ch_fr, uk)
- reassign default settings if locale=ch:
  # German language - ch layout
  # French language - ch_fr layout
  # Italian language - ch_fr layout
  # English language - ch layout

Any hint how to achieve this?

Kind regards, dsto

[Bug 363976] [NEW] Brother: Top of first page is not printed

2009-04-19 Thread Daniel Stoni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brother-cups-wrapper-bh7

Printing used to work well with Hardy Heron. Since upgrade to Jackalope, there
is a problem - the same with new installs:
On the first page, there is about 2 cm of the document missing, Printing starts
immediatly at the border and the whole page is shifted up by these 2 cm. Same
behaviour with Open Office, Firefox, PDF viewer.

The documents themselves are fine and can be printed correctly from
another workstation.
