[Bug 1830560] Re: suspend

2020-10-27 Thread David Oxland
I tried suspend and it still fails to recover in a reasonable time;
usually it locks up and I have to do a hard start. I had thought that it
was healed, but was mistaken. Bug still valid.

[Bug 1702766] [NEW] Wallch/xorg abberation

2017-07-06 Thread David Oxland
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
 Old Fresh Install
Using Wallch set to auto start and pic of the day
Ocassionally the display shows pic only as a portion with bottom portion
grey-out as shown in attached.
Sometime the greyed out portion occupies 80% of the screen always from the
bottom up.
Restart makes no difference
This occurance happens only occasionally, and I've caught a snapshot today
Usually wallch displays pic of the day correctly.
On boot, I do see some different activity discussing blocks occasionally b/w
screen.(related?)
no other display aberrations appear in daily use.

[Bug 1652410] Re: Undescriptive duplicity/collection-status error when the backup directory contains two volumes with different file names and same volume number in the same backup set

2017-01-16 Thread David Oxland
Vej and Nathanael
Update :
I deleted all the contents of dropbox backup file
restarted and it functioned without apparent error.
I did not, as you suggested, choose only a small file for backup, so ended up
vol 399.
Running again today after startup no apparent errors.
Thank you for you time and persistence.
This may save my skin someday.

You apparently performed a full backup on 2016-11-29 at 01:52 UTC, did
everything work fine during this backup? Was it successful ?
Don't think so

When did you run first into this problem - on the first incremental backup ?
As far as I'm aware it has never succeeded.
Always got the message "Backup Failed" as it did just now when I ran it.
I've had this problem for a long time all through the time that I ran Ubuntu
14.04 and it's just since I installed 16.04 that I have tried to chase it down.
Thanks for your persistance
David

[Bug 1563155] Re: No Application Data Found

2016-09-16 Thread David Oxland
I've been watching the "Ubuntu-Software" since I fresh installed 16.04 on
another machine.
My complaint was the same; offerings meager.
Now after an upgrade on machine #2 the same software tool appeared.

Then I tried "Ubuntu Software Center 15.12" and it is the full meal deal. All
that I expected albeit in a different GUI form from the 14.04 that I was used
to.
select " ubuntu Software Center" from Unity search your computer button and I
locked it to the unity launcher. It was there with a different name all ready
to go
Works for me.

[Bug 292676] Re: Thunderbird doesn't play any sound on notification

2014-10-01 Thread David Oxland
For me;
A fix on the non-performing machine mentioned on he previous post.
Take the .wav file that I had chosen (which did not play) and
Using OggConvert convert it into an .ogg file.
OggConvert is a GUI application from the repository that 's pretty well
intuitive.(you might have to install it)
Go to thunderbird /edit/preferences/general and choose the newly created
.ogg file from where you saved it.
Worked for me. Although I don't know which player did the job.
Now chosen .OGG sound file plays.
Just tried it on a whim and success if it lasts.

[Bug 1361908] [NEW] Brother- DCP7065-DN printer not found

2014-08-26 Thread David Oxland
Public bug reported:

ubuntu 14.04 LTS Lenovo H53564 bit
I had reported, a few weeks ago that this printer was not offered on the sane
list.
Shortly after an update from ubuntu it did appear on the list was correctly
identified and installed working correctly although without the scanner ability
not found by any scan program.
Recently calling for a print job brings up printer not found or is printer
connected
a delete and reinstall finds the printer OK but these errors continue.
I have disconnected and reconnected printer wires powered off and on but
problem remains.
Initially I was able to install using the driver for 7085 and will try that
again.

[Bug 1361908] Re: Brother- DCP7065-DN printer not found

2014-08-26 Thread David Oxland
I am embarrassed;
I believe I messed up the printer myself via settings in the machine itself a
few days ago.
I just now fingered through settings and found reset network settings; did
that and
deleted all the broken versions anda new install went along correctly?
Test page printed without error.
If it holds for a few days I'll say repaired/solved.

[Bug 1351238] Re: Install problem Brother-DCP 7065DN

2014-08-10 Thread David Oxland
Pascal
in answer to : Where did you get the DCP-8065DN ppd? I just choose the
driver from the CUPS menu during the install process by trial and error with
lots of others because the offered/recommended 7045 driver did not work.
I don't know how to direct or answer you further.
While the 7065 was correctly identified as in the screenshot it was not offered
in the list of drivers .
Is it possible that the 8065 was mislabelled, and was actually the correct
offering?
Also, now that the printer is working should I install the brlaser driver?
The reason for filing a bug is that there must be others in the community
struggling with the same problem.

~brian-murray
Sorry I don't know how to remove the patch.
I had attached that screenshot because it was a fix for me. and has been with
two different machines.
The problem is genuine and valid.

[Bug 1351238] [NEW] Install problem Brother-DCP 7065DN

2014-08-01 Thread David Oxland
Public bug reported:

While working through the printer install process
The printer was found and correctly identified as DCP-7065DN
However the list of drivers offered did not include this and recommended
driver DCP-7045N which did not work.
Experimenting with choosing and finally choosing DCP-8065DN did work and the
printer functions properly just blind luck.
What I expected was to be offered the correct driver by name.
This may be an error in naming or transcription; not sure.
Very frustrating, to be sure and took a fair amount of work to find the right
driver.

[Bug 1337993] [NEW] Radio tray hangs Ubuntu 14.04

2014-07-04 Thread David Oxland
Public bug reported:

1/ Until recently Radio tray has functioned well Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
2/Radio Tray 0.7.3
3/ choose station and play
4/ Silence and indicates stop playing , while slected station
is not playing.

a reinstall helped briefly and now back to the stalling performance.
Perhaps just takes a long time to load and be ready to go.
Something definitely amiss here. Works well on another machine with 14.04.
