[Bug 921123] Re: ath5k Atheros AR5007G/AR2417 Chip Connected to Router but No Internet

2013-12-08 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
I'm still on LTS Precise on v3.4, I got it working right after I reinstalled
the card but it soon dropped the internet after about 30mins while still
connected to the router.
I just installed v3.12.4, the internet connection seems stable. will wait for a
few more hours and report back just to make sure.

internet drops, and when it does connect, I'm still getting 15-20kbps

report back with the result. Thanks for taking the time to check on this bug.

[Bug 1023149] [NEW] Disabling/Changing Shortcut Key of Screenshot Does Not Work

2012-07-10 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Disabling or changing the shortcut key of screenshot prompts gnome-
control-center to create another key-value pair with the original
setting. It's a Unity2D specific bug since I don't have this problem on

[Bug 915165] Re: can not save download to necessary directory

2012-05-21 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
This has become such an irritating bug that I've decided to delete a couple of
config files to reset my desktop since a newly created user account does not
have this bug.
However, while deleting those config files, I stumbled upon
.local/share/gtk-2.0something/gtkfilechooser.ini
Maybe that's where the bug's originated from, but I can no longer test it since
I've also deleted .gconf, .gnome2, etc

Anyone care to try deleting the gtkfilechooser.ini to test my theory?

[Bug 986602] [NEW] Universal Access - Big Mouse Pointers

2012-04-21 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Testing out Precise Build 20120421 i386 ISO with High Contrast enabled.
It worked ok during installation, but after rebooting and before logging in, I
disabled High Contrast. Now I have this big mouse pointer while surfing in
Firefox. The pointer is normal on application windows, but not on web pages
where its magnified. I made sure that Universal Access options are set to
default but I still have it. Logging out/in and reboot did not fix this bug.

[Bug 921123] Re: ath5k Atheros AR5007G/AR2417 Chip Connected to Router but No Internet

2012-01-26 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I bought a TP-Link WN 350GD PCI Wifi Card with an Atheros chip. It worked
well on Natty and Oneiric, until a few weeks ago (probably after a kernel
upgrade) when it started acting funky. It's connected to the router alright,
but the internet's either disconnected, or very very slow - slower than dialup.
Signal strength's good at 77%, authenticated via WPA2-Personal.

I'm using both LAN and Wireless connections (LAN's routing is enabled)
since LAN connection's for the internal network, while the wireless
connection's for the Internet. I can usually scan and ping other
devices/workstations connected wirelessly but not anymore. Every now and
then, the wifi card would allow me to connect to a website at 15K-
20Kbps, but it'll disconnect soon after. Syslog shows that the card
keeps on re-authenticating to the network. Something that does not
happen on my TP-Link USB Wifi with Ralink chipset - and they're
  averaging at 65%-75% signal strength.

  I've already tried booting to v2.6.39, v3.0.0-15, and v3.2.1 (which I got
from kernel.ubuntu.com for precise pangolin) kernels with no success.
I've even tried compiling compat-wireless by following the instructions on
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download#Directly_downloading_the_tarball
  I've also commented out ath_pci from /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf
  all with the same result.

I haven't tried using wicd as suggested in the forum since it doesn't
  support simultaneous connections

So is this an ath5k bug? or did my pci wifi card went south. I can't
replace it at the moment since this is a company workstation and might
take a while to get a replacement card. By the way, the workstation I'm
using is a dev workstation and a web/database/ntpd server for our
prototypes which means it's on 24/7.

[Bug 362875] Re: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset

2012-01-25 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
I'm also affected by this bug. I have to manually unplug and re-plug my
TP-Link TL-WN321G with Ralink chip which sometimes also affects ACPI to
the point where I have to restart the system.

[Bug 362875] Re: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset

2012-01-25 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
btw, here's the additional details:

1) I plug the USB Wifi (TP-Link TL-WN321G) and wait for it to
disconnect. The nm-applet will still say it's connected so I'm using the
Dropbox applet as an indicator. Syslog would then spit out the
rt2x00usb_vendor_request error. It just happens without triggering it.
Sometimes I'm doing something, sometimes I'm not, either way I'll have
this error. Also, it's not time dependent, sometimes it'll go on for
5hours or more, sometimes for 5 mins.

2) I'm on Ubuntu Oneiric with 3.0.0-15 kernel. I've also tried the v2.6
and v3.2 kernels with the same result.

3) see attachments on previous post

[Bug 921123] [NEW] ath5k Atheros AR5007G/AR2417 Chip Connected to Router but No Internet

2012-01-24 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

I bought a TP-Link WN 350GD PCI Wifi Card with an Atheros chip. It worked well
on Natty and Oneiric, until a few weeks ago (probably after a kernel upgrade)
when it started acting funky. It's connected to the router alright, but the
internet's either disconnected, or very very slow - slower than dialup.

I've already tried booting to v2.6.39, v3.0.0-15, and v3.2.1 (which I got from
kernel.ubuntu.com for precise pangolin) kernels with no success.
I've even tried compiling compat-wireless by following the instructions on
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download#Directly_downloading_the_tarball
I've also commented out ath_pci from /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf
all with the same result.

I haven't tried using wicd as suggested in the forum since it doesn't
support simultaneous connections

So is this an ath5k bug? or did my pci wifi card went south. I can't
replace it at the moment since this is a company workstation and might
take a while to get a replacement card. By the way, the workstation I'm
using is a dev workstation and a web/database/ntpd server for our
prototypes which means it's on 24/7.

[Bug 887799] Re: Calibre Segmentation Fault

2011-11-08 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
found a thread on uf.o http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11395883 but
the workaround seems to reinstall Calibre using:
sudo python -c import urllib2; exec
urllib2.urlopen('http://status.calibre-ebook.com/linux_installer').read();
main()

not an ideal solution I'm afraid... and no, I won't do it.

[Bug 796322] [NEW] Empathy keeps on losing Google Talk's Application-Specific Password for Applications

2011-06-12 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I enabled Google's 2-Step Verification and use Empathy to access my
Google Talk contacts. I noticed that every time I reboot, Empathy keeps
on losing the application-specific password to the point that I now have
it saved - but encrypted - on my tiddler. Empathy does not lose the
password on application restart though.

This not only happens on a single workstation at home but also on my
workstation in the office. Both have Empathy v2.34.0 installed and both
using a completely different application-specific passwords. I've also
tried it using another user account on my home workstation signed in
using a completely different Google account with 2-step verification
also enabled with the same results.

Empathy just kept on losing its' password.

[Bug 796083] [NEW] [Natty] Unrecoverable System Hang

2011-06-11 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

My workstation hanged, unexpectedly. I was currently reading an article on FF
when the whole system froze. Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6] did not work, neither did the all
important REISUB - thus my conclusion that it's a system hang.
The following applications were open when it hanged: Nautilus, Gnome-Terminal,
Gedit, FF4, Empathy, and Banshee. I also have the following applications (that
did not come with the default installation) running: Squid, ntpd, Samba,
Apache, and MySQL
I'm also connected to eth and wlan simultaneously.

Here's the syslog.1 entry:
Jun 12 07:39:01 radio-dev CRON[6210]: (root) CMD ( [ -x

yes, it did freeze after rsyslogd at 0753H but I don't think syslog was
the cause of the hang. I had to do a hard-reset after. I'm also
attaching the next latest syslog file

[Bug 676508] Re: Lucid won't share printers via samba

2010-12-07 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
yes it does, both the local and shared (from XP) printers works well. I
just can't share them. And both are listed on lpstat. Both printers are
also set as shared.

What bothers me though, after doing Google and LP search, is that I
think I'm the only one affected by this bug (on Lucid).

[Bug 686714] [NEW] [Lucid] Network Manager does not allow simultaneous multiple connections

2010-12-07 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I previously configured our Lucid workstation on Static IP, however,
recent company policy changes forced me to use 2 network connections.
Here's the current company setup:

The gateway/router supplying our wired connection with IP Address
192.168.13.1 has been physically disconnected. All wired workstations
are configured for Static IP Address. A wireless router has been setup
and the gateway plugged in with IP Address 192.168.13.1. Thus, all wired
connections can only access servers and workstations on LAN. To be able
to access the Internet, you need to connect via Wireless. MAC and Static
IP Address has to match and registered before being able to connect to
the Internet. Unregistered MAC and/or mismatched IP Address would allow
you to connect wirelessly, but won't allow you to access the Internet.

Both Wired and Wireless Connections are configured with Static IP
ifconfig

But this is unrelated to the bug I'm reporting, I'm just giving you guys
a background so you have an idea why I have one wired and one wireless
connection.

So:
Wired Connection: access LAN Servers
Wireless Connection: access Internet

Obviously:
Wired Connected, Wireless Disconnected: can't access Internet but can access
LAN Servers
Wired Disconnected, Wireless Connected: can access Internet but can't access
LAN Servers

The Bug:
Wired Connected AND Wireless Connected: can't access Internet but can access
LAN Servers
Note: this is possibly due to Bug #629284 fixes

The Workaround:
I right-click nm-applet and uncheck Enable Networking
wait for 5 seconds
I right-click nm-applet and check Enable Networking
I Disconnect Wired Network
I Connect to Wireless Network
verify that I can access both Wired and Wireless connection
Note: this workaround is 'technically' another bug!

What I Need:
I need to access both LAN Servers via Wired Connection and the Internet via
Wireless Connection

[Bug 676508] [NEW] Lucid won't share printers via samba

2010-11-17 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

Samba's sharing my folders without problems except the printers. I have
1 shared network printer and 1 local printer attached via USB, an HP

I've tried googling for answers but the solutions I've stumbled upon
doesn't seem to work. I've also tried configuring the .conf files to no
avail. Attached are the screenshot of my shared printer and the folder
which should also show the shared printers.

[Bug 675449] [NEW] [STAGING] Hangs on Resume and/or Hibernate on Maverick 10.10

2010-11-15 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

The latest kernel update has now prevented me from resuming from suspend
(as well as resuming from hibernate). The stock kernel on the Maverick
iso would allow me to resume from suspend but hangs on resume from
hibernate (I did check on it).

I've lost a lot of work because of this and currently have suspend and
hibernate disabled from Power Management.

The mighty REISUB also isn't helpful since everything just stops. I have
to literally hard reboot by pressing and holding the power button.

I purged the log to minimize the noise, reboot, resume... and then hard
restart. the hang took place at around 1629H on Nov 15 2010

[Bug 612442] [NEW] Lucid - gdm does not crash, but flickers

2010-08-02 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

My wife's using Lucid Lynx on an eMachine's T2798 with D845GVSR MB,
512MB RAM, 2.7GHz and a max video ram of 8MB (the motherboard doesn't
have an AGP slot and no available PCI Video Card in our area).

I believe GDM crashes due to the limited video memory, but previous
installations of Ubuntu (Jaunty Jackalope since Karmic Koala won't
install) worked fine. This is also a fresh install.

What happens is, at very random times, the screen will just start to
flicker regardless whether my wife's running a video-intensive
applications or not. It's just very random.

Oh wait, I don't think it's a gdm issue. It has lxdm originally

ok, i found the problem. Apparently, my workstation's out of sync.
Followed the instructions at

ntpdate ntp.ubuntu.com and placing an entry in cron.daily fixed it for
me.

[Bug 570843] [NEW] [Lucid Lynx RC] Install hangs on a LAN-connected (but no internet) workstation

2010-04-27 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Release: Ubuntu Lucid Lynx RC (downloaded from cdimage on April 26)
Package: Ubiquity
Version: unsure

Processor: 32-bit Intel 3GHz
RAM: 1GB
Video Card: 256MB NVidia
HDD: 160GB

Install Method: Manual Partitioning

I installed Lucid on our company workstation that's connected to the LAN
but NOT connected to the Internet.

The installer will start to slow down on 55% mark and then completely
hang on 89% mark with the Checking for packages to remove message.
This continued for over 6 hours.

Bug exists whether I boot from the Live Session and then Launch the
installer, or launch the installer directly after booting the Live CD. I
haven't tried an Alternate Install CD.

I managed to successfully install Lucid by changing its MAC Address and
redoing the install.

Please note that I won't be able to verify a fix since I already have a
working system.

[Bug 570632] Re: Network manager doesn't change the MAC address of the ethernet card

2010-04-27 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
This is what happens in my case:
1) Change MAC address of an existing connection named Auto eth0
2) Network Manager will create a new connection named Auto Ethernet
3) Network Manager will automatically connect via Auto Ethernet

No matter what I do, Network Manager won't allow me to connect via Auto
eth0

Here's my workaround
1) sudo update-rc.d -f NetworkManager remove
or sudo update-rc.d -f network-manager remove (on Lucid)
2) uncheck Network Manager from System Preferences Startup Applications
3) edit /etc/resolv.conf

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

4) edit /etc/network/interfaces

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.15.220
netmask 255.255.252.0
gateway 192.168.13.1

# this is the non-default mac address
hwaddress ether 00:11:95:60:A4:A4

5) sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager stop
6) kill network manager applet
7) restart networking: sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
sudo service networking restart

8) or reboot as an alternative to steps 5-7

[Bug 335297] [NEW] [jaunty] Keyboard and Mouse Frozen on Login Screen

2009-02-26 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

I did a dist-upgrade using update-manager -d, everything went well until I
rebooted and got to the new GDM login window.
That's when my mouse and keyboard froze. I can't move my mouse nor can I switch
to a terminal - it's like it's physically unplugged. I tried both USB and PS/2
interfaces with no luck and I have to physically power off my box by pressing
the off button for 5+ secs.

I rebooted into a Recovery console and purged GDM and installed KDM -
but still proved unsuccessful since mouse and keyboard remained frozen.
I did the same thing by install installing SLIM but bug still won't let
me do anything.

This might be an Xorg bug since I've already tried gdm, kdm, and slim. I
can't attach crash logs, etc since my workstation remains unresponsive.
I can access the logs via recovery console, but I don't think I'll be
able to attach them here via Links.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfwm4

In Xubuntu, when a window has been set to stick, it ain't sticking. It
doesn't matter if I stick it by clicking on the stick icon on the title
bar or from the right-click menu.

** Affects: xfwm4 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 237284] Re: Receiving a file via bluetooth fails

2008-09-13 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
This seems to have been fixed in Intrepid. I had some problems sending
files from my N3230 to my Hardy, but now that I've upgraded to Intrepid,
I can now send as well as receive files.

[Bug 268868] [NEW] [Intrepid Alpha 5] NameVirtualHost entry in ports.conf causes NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts warning

2008-09-11 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

I've setup a sandbox and configured VirtualHosts.
I noticed that NameVirtualHost has an entry in /etc/apache2/ports.conf
I've configured /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and added a few more
VirtualHost entries there but reload only gave me a warning:
[Thu Sep 11 15:05:04 2008] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts

Here's my /etc/apache2/sites-available/default file:

NameVirtualHost *
VirtualHost *
DocumentRoot /var/www
ServerName localhost
/VirtualHost
VirtualHost *
DocumentRoot /home/dax/Codes/OMS
ServerName oms
/VirtualHost
VirtualHost *
DocumentRoot /home/dax/Codes/Ticketing
ServerName ticketing
/VirtualHost

Servers ticketing and oms are both pointed at 127.0.0.1 on /etc/hosts
and this setup should've worked. However, no matter what server I
access, I always end up at /var/www.

I soon found out that /etc/apache2/ports.conf has NameVirtualHost entry:

# If you just change the port or add more ports here, you will likely also
# have to change the VirtualHost statement in
# /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default

NameVirtualHost *:80
Listen 80

IfModule mod_ssl.c
# SSL name based virtual hosts are not yet supported, therefore no
# NameVirtualHost statement here
Listen 443
/IfModule

I commented out NameVirtualHost and got my oms and radio servers working
after reload.

[Bug 235610] Re: Quanta Plus crashes Ubuntu when file not found

2008-09-03 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, we will need a few more details from you:
1) What is your version of Ubuntu?
2) What is the version of your Quanta Plus?

Also, can you upload your crash log.

I am on Kubuntu Hardy and I can't seem to reproduce this bug with the
Remember open files feature turned on.

Thank you

2007-12-17 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: knode

I'm subscribed to Gmane using KNode v0.10.5 and Followup via Newsgroup
works like a charm, however, when Replying via Email, I get an
Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender message.

Now it doesn't matter if I'm using my localhost (via Postfix), my SMTP
server, my ISP's SMTP server, or Gmail's SMTP server... I'm still
getting the said error.

I'm also subscribed on the Ubuntu-Users list. Anyone else experiencing
this problem?
