[Bug 1484380] Re: Xorg regular crash on wily

2015-11-21 Thread Diego Schulz
I'm also having this issue regularly, at least two times a day. I can't
say for sure but it seems that opening/closing tabs in Chrome is what
triggers a crash most frequently here.

[Bug 1247668] Re: NumLock turned off on layout switch

2014-04-26 Thread Diego Schulz
I also experience this issue after a clean 14.04 installation. Layout
keeps switching all the time. It's incredibly annoying and infuriating.

My preferred keyboard layout is US International with dead keys (or
something like that, my environment is currently set to Spanish).

I need this keyboard layout for many reasons, the first and most obvious
being that my laptop came with a English layout keyboard, not Spanish.
Second is that I often need to type áéíóúñõãũ etcetera. Third, I don't
want to switch layouts all the time, so US International with dead
keys is a perfect fit for me.

The problem is that I find myself frequently (read: many times a day)
messing around with keyboard layout settings because the system keeps
forgetting and instead changes to plain English layout and for some very
stupid reason, disabling num lock. Also, when this obnoxious unsolicited
gratuitous layout switch happens, I no longer can type some characters
(quotation marks (), apostrophes ('), accents ('`)) in applications
written in Java/Swing.

I can say for sure, but I think one of the things that triggers the
switching is suspend/resume cycles.

[Bug 1155861] Re: qtchooser exits with error message not changing qt version

2013-05-11 Thread Diego Schulz
@Blaze, I tried it. Unfortunately it didn't work for qtchooser.
Assistant is working just fine, though.

Following Manner Róbert advice, installed apt-file tool and it seems
that the actual qtchooser binary is not to be found in any package in
the standard repositories. The qtchooser package provides a 22k binary
(/usr/bin/qtchooser), but that file is what doesn't works in the first
place. It seems like it tries to run the actual /usr/lib/i386-linux-
gnu/qt${Qt_VERSION}/bin/qtchooser.

[Bug 954404] Re: Pulseaudio crashes / restarts for no apparent reason

2012-03-24 Thread Diego Schulz
Recently noticed there's actually an easy way to reproduce this bug in
my system. Just putting the cursor over the sound indicator icon and
scrolling the mouse wheel for a few seconds causes pulseaudio process to
terminate.

I created a ~/.pulse/client.conf with a line

autospawn = no

and then killed pulseaudio and restarted with

pulseaudio -v   pulselog.txt

to see what's happening. Please find the output attached below.

I also strace'd pulseaudio with this line:

LANG=en strace  pulseaudio 2 strace-pulselog.txt

The output is also attached.

[Bug 954404] [NEW] Pulseaudio crashes / restarts for no apparent reason

2012-03-13 Thread Diego Schulz
Public bug reported:

Pulseaudio apparently crashes or restarts but I couldn't identify what triggers
the problem.
The indicator icon suddenly shows the speaker with two dashes, no sound at all,
and then after a few seconds the soundcard is detected either as dummy audio
device or as Analog output, in which case sound works again for a few
minutes until it happens again.

Tried removing ~/.pulse and restarting the session. It didn't helped.

This is the only sign I found in /var/log/syslog:

[Bug 415357] Re: [gm45] Xorg consistently crashing when using some applications

2010-08-18 Thread Diego Schulz
I'm currently running Lucid in a Dell Latitude E6510 with Intel
graphics, but using vesa driver and modesetting disabled (can't even
boot in graphics mode with intel driver, I've got to use 'xforcevesa
nomodeset' kernel parameters).

I'm going to try maverick ASAP and try to reproduce this bug (assuming
the problem with modesetting is fixed and intel is usable at all).

[Bug 590607] Re: rfkill hotkey does not switch off bluetooth on Dell Inspiron Mini

2010-08-04 Thread Diego Schulz
After upgrading the kernel image from 2.6.32-24.37 to 2.6.32-24.38 I
can't no longer suspend to RAM. The screen becomes black but the laptop
doesn't enter in suspend state. Of course it's impossible to restore, I
have to shutdown by holding the power switch a few seconds.

My laptop is a Dell Latitude E6510 and I'm writing this in this bug
report because it seems related to Dell laptops.

[Bug 600453] Re: Computer boots in low-graphics mode (intel graphics card)

2010-07-01 Thread Diego Schulz
The problem apparently is in the Intel graphics driver.
Meanwhile I'm using the vesa driver, I had to edit the /etc/default/grub file:

## Original:
## GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
## Now:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet nomodeset xforcevesa acpi_osi=Linux

I'm not sure of the effect of

  acpi_osi=Linux

but I couldn't even boot without nomodeset and xforcevesa options.

I still can reproduce the overheating problem very easily. After a

[Bug 451596] [NEW] US International keyboard layout not persistent between kde4 sessions

2009-10-14 Thread Diego Schulz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace-bin

Keyboard Layout configured as US International (see the snapshot:
http://i34.tinypic.com/20hrip2.png)

Here's the content of  .kde/share/config/kxkbrc  :

[Layout]
DisplayNames=us
IndicatorOnly=false
LayoutList=us(intl)
Model=pc102
Options=grp:alts_toggle,lv3:ralt_switch
ResetOldOptions=true
ShowFlag=true
ShowSingle=false
SwitchMode=Global
Use=true

But for some reason the layout doesn't works as it should, but if I copy the
command line from the settings (see the snapshot above)

setxkbmap -model pc102 -layout us -variant intl

and run it from konsole, the layout is applied and stays effective
during the kde session.

I tried putting a wrapper script in place of /usr/bin/setxkbmap to see if it
gets called on session start, and it does.
--
#!/bin/bash
NOW=`date`
ME=`basename $0`
echo ${NOW}: [PPID=$PPID] ${ME} $*  /home/dschulz/setxkbmap.log
#beep
/usr/bin/setxkbmap.bin $*
--

When I start a session this script logs:
--
mié oct 14 02:04:35 PYT 2009: [PPID=12628] setxkbmap -model pc102 -layout us
-variant intl -option -option grp:alts_toggle,lv3:ralt_switch
--

And then I see:

$ ps aux | grep 12628
dschulz  12628  0.0  0.5  91400 15232 ?Sl   02:02   0:00 kdeinit4: kxkb

 From how the corruption looks and since they are both related to qt, I
 think this may be the same issue as bug 433974. That bug has already
 been sent upstream, so I'm marking this bug as a duplicate for the
 moment. When that bug is fixed, it would be nice if you could verify
 that the fix also fixes this problem, and if not unduplicate this bug.

Any news on this? It would be a really really unpleasant experience to
witness this bug in the final Karmic release. I mean it, real pain.

Is there anything I can do to help?

Problem persists. So far I can say I tried almost every possible kernel
available. The only considerable workaround I found is to suspend to RAM and
then restore at least once, after this procedure the CPU fan works as it
should.

[Bug 423468] [NEW] strange menu in konsole and yakuake after first right click

2009-09-02 Thread Diego Schulz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdelibs

There's an upstream bug report for this problem

KPart shows a strange menu after first rightclick
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=186745

The issue was fixed in 4.3.1 but I still can reproduce in a fully
updated karmic installation. Apparently the patch for this one didn't do
in time for the final 4.3.1 packages. Weird thing is that packages in
other distros seem to have included the fix.

Here's a snapshot

[Bug 420175] [NEW] System hangs while attempting to reboot (Waiting all remaining processes to terminate...)

2009-08-27 Thread Diego Schulz
Public bug reported:

Recently I tried to reboot, but the system got hung (not really, please

The system is not really locked, apparently some script is waiting some
condition that never will meet, presumably.
I can switch between ttys but all gettys are gone, so I can't do anything to
further investigate what's going on.

[Bug 419239] [NEW] plasma-desktop eats all RAM after misclick in recently used tab

2009-08-26 Thread Diego Schulz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace-bin

This is easily reproducible, in kickoff menu, go to Recently used tab, then
drag an icon a few pixels then drop it.

killed?). Plasma gets restarted a few seconds after this happened and no crash

Unfortunately that's simply not true. I'm also running KDE 4.3, and

IMHO this has nothing to do with the userland programs (that includes

The problem persists even running in single user mode.

Recently I tried with a 2.6.27 kernel

As I mentioned earlier in other threads, the only workaround that
works for me es to suspend to ram and then restore. After that, the
problem vanishes and the fan just works.

I also tried adjusting the trip points in different ways. Trying to
adjust in a running kernel was not possible.
For me, the only effective way to adjust trip points was as kernel
parameters (eg. thermal.psv=60 thermal.act=45 in the kernel line in
/boot/grub/menu.lst).
But adjusting trip point didn't do any effect.
