[Bug 471877] Re: unable to launch wireless connection after upgrading to Karmic with ar5001x
Thanks for testing uwe. So I believe there is really no problem with our controller under Karmic. The problem is that we used madwifi in Jaunty and had ath5k blacklisted to do so. When we updated to Karmic madwifi were no longer there but ath5k were still blacklisted. So I think this is a bug in the upgrade process. A possible solution would be to detect the use of madwifi + atheros controller at upgrade time and remove the ath5k module from the blacklist (or at least warn the user), so users don't reboot to find out they no longer have wifi working (or even worst in my case: to find out I no longer had how to access the internet to find out a solution to the problem). -- unable to launch wireless connection after upgrading to Karmic with ar5001x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/471877 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 471877] Re: unable to launch wireless connection after upgrading to Karmic with ar5001x
Hi uwe. I believe that recompiling your kernel every time it's updated is a less than ideal solution. If the ath5k driver works for you that process would be unnecessary. Since you are using madwifi I'm sure your ath5k is blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf and in /etc/modprobe.d/madwifi.conf. So if you want to test ath5k, you can un- blacklist it in one of the files, while blacklisting the madwifi modules in the second file.

I had the same problem. I have exactly the same controller (AR5001X+ rev01) and it was working in Jaunty using madwifi (because the ath5k driver frequently froze my system). When I upgraded to Karmic today my card were no longer recognised. I then tried to install madwifi-ng from source, following the instructions on this post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1309072). After that the card were recognised, but the speed was ridiculous ~30 kbps. Then I simply uninstalled madwifi-ng and removed the ath5k from the blacklist (/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf). It's working perfectly now. In fact, it's much faster than Jaunty with madwifi. -- unable to launch wireless connection after upgrading to Karmic with ar5001x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/471877 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 365776] Re: [i965] graphical glitches with Blender/OpenGL unless DRI disabled
Just came across a post from Carl Worth in planet gnome that I believe is related (http://cworth.org/intel/driver_stability/). He explains that the intel driver had gone through a major restructuring wich caused some regressions. This regressions were addressed mainly in the kernel, and the fixes are available only in 2.6.30. He also mentions that there are people in Ubuntu working on it and there are newer versions of the intel driver and a package for 2.6.30 (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers). -- [i965] graphical glitches with Blender/OpenGL unless DRI disabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
