[Bug 1746083] Re: PDF export fails with message "Successful export..."

2018-01-29 Thread Dylan Justice
If I clipboard the document, close Lyx entirely, open it (but without
opening the failure document), and paste my clipboard into a fresh
document, I can export. Here is the log of a successful export.

[Bug 1746083] [NEW] PDF export fails with message "Successful export..."

2018-01-29 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

I'm doing a lot of thermo and calculus homework in Lyx. Lyx sometimes
gets into a state where it silently refuses to generate PDFs, with no
meaningful error message.

I can sometimes generate the PDF by opening a new document, pasting
contents, and generating immediately. If that new document is saved and
re-opened, the error happens again.

I'll upload a progress log demonstrating the error separately.

[Bug 1680230] [NEW] Okular custom image stamp annotation ignores image size

2017-04-05 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

TLDR: A custom image stamp in Okular is stretched to fit into a square
box, apparently of the system icon size. The image size and aspect are
ignored.

BACKGROUND:

One of my few remaining uses for Windows is to use PDF-XChange to allow
me to stamp PDF files with an image of my signature. I use a PNG file
with specific DPI and geometry to size it to about 1cm x 5cm. It has
transparent background, and some use of opacity in the pen lines.

I was very excited to find out that Okular can do [custom image
stamps](https://superuser.com/questions/1074614/customise-okular-to-add-
my-own-annotation-stamps).

I cannot find any way to make Okular respect the dimensions of my stamp
image -- it insists that every image should be the size of an icon.

[Bug 1666665] [NEW] scanbd blocks all sane access to scanner device

2017-02-21 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

When scanbd is running, other sane frontends cannot access my scanner.
There is no documentation leading me to expect this, and no suggested

[Bug 1666659] [NEW] Default scanbd install references missing scripts

2017-02-21 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

The default install references a missing script (and directory) at
/etc/scanbd/scripts/test.script. The install detected my scanner and
logged a button action (yay!), but reported the following cryptic errors
on syslog. This would be impossible for a newbie to figure out.

scanbd: trigger action for scan for device fujitsu:ScanSnap
S510M:503191 with script test.script
scanbd: access: No such file or directory
scanbd: stat: No such file or directory
scanbd: execlp: No such file or directory

[Bug 1661981] [NEW] Needs feature to resize viewport to match focussed application

2017-02-05 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Problem:

I have a large, multi-monitor desktop workstation (4224x1280).
Generally when I want remote access to it, it's from a laptop with a
much smaller screen, and usually with much lower resolution -- my
macbook is 1440x900.

Background:

Many VNC servers are capable of sharing a specific rectangle. This is
helpful under certain specific situations, but is impractical to set up
ahead of time when you don't have a specific task in mind.

Feature request:

Add an "application viewport mode," which traps application focus
changes through the alt-tab window. Upon selecting a new application
for focus, it resizes the server viewport to the dimensions of the
window selected. At least in Unity, one of the focusable windows (in
the alt-tab list) is the Desktop, meaning that full-desktop
functionality is still accessible.

I'm not sure if there's a better way to handle multiple workspaces than
switching back to the desktop, changing to the other workspace, and then
alt-tabbing into the new application.

[Bug 1646654] [NEW] bjc-s9000 generates photos that are unusably dark and grainy

[Bug 1623624] [NEW] Indicator-multiload graphic incomprehensible without reference to prefs

2016-09-14 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Indicator-multiload provides no way to figure out what the various
indicator traces actually mean, unless you memorize the colours, or go
into prefs to figure out which ones you have enabled.

Possible fixes (not mutually exclusive) are:

  1. The indicator should provide descriptive tooltip / mouseover text
on each trace

  2. The context menu should colorize the correlated line item to match
the trace colour

  3. A descriptive word should be ghosted behind the trace.

[Bug 1490712] [NEW] Printer calibration "normal 4 pages" has used 15 sheets so far

2015-08-31 Thread Dylan Justice

[Bug 1225460] [NEW] Radeon HD5800 desktop suspend/resume failure

2013-09-14 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Consistent resume failure and hard crash on Asus P8Z77-V with HD5850.
In about 8 attempts, once observed display corruption on resume rather
than black screen, and one successful resume. Previously experienced
similar problems in Lucid with fglrx and radeon. Have not yet tried
fglrx in Saucy.

Blaming radeon driver due to identical experience on Lucid with same
video card on different motherboard (Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H).

[Bug 958279] Re: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep.

2013-02-15 Thread Dylan Justice
I have a problem with similar with 12.10 and fglrx version
2:12.100-0ubuntu1.

After resume, one of my monitors is disabled and cannot be reenabled
from Catalyst without reboot. Another loses its resolution setting.
The third is still in good shape.

[Bug 948151] Re: Large windows switch monitor when maximized

2012-06-17 Thread Dylan Justice
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 776435 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776435

A slight refinement of description: a window larger in any dimension
than the current monitor always gets maximized to the largest/primary
monitor. Behaviour is 100% consistent on my system, comprising two
portrait monitors 1024x1280 flanking a landscape monitor of 1920x1200.

Definitely not a duplicate of #776435, for reasons stated by icb410.

[Bug 769366] Re: Monitor prefs: poor resolution options when EDID fails

2011-10-12 Thread Dylan Justice
The bug is that when no EDID information is available, the default
resolution options top out at 1024x768. This is not usable on most
modern systems. It would be very easy to provide a list of standard 4:3
and 16:9 resolutions so that if it can't be autoconfigured, a user can
at least use the gui to choose something *close* without having to
generate an Xorg.conf.

To address the minimum criteria for a complete bug report, I reiterate
from my initial post:

1) I created a system that used a DP-DVI adapter. No EDID info was generated.
2) I expected to be presented with a list of common resolutions in the gui.
3) The list of default resolutions topped out at 1024x768.

[Bug 769366] [NEW] Monitor prefs: poor resolution options when EDID fails

2011-04-23 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

If EDID/DDC fails, the resolution options are too restrictive; an
exhaustive list of resolutions should be available.

Use case: I run my third monitor through a DisplayPort--DVI adapter, so
no EDID information is returned. I cannot find any way to set the
correct resolution short of generating an xorg.conf.

Wow, I have no idea how I managed to get into that state. Uninstalling
and reinstalling hplip-gui confirms that this is fixed, if it was ever
an issue.

[Bug 507723] Re: New Install 9.10 No boot Bios block3 damaged error.

2010-11-28 Thread Dylan Justice
I have this issue after installing Maverick on a Portege 3500. It
worked great for a while, and then I changed the power settings to allow
it to S3. Boom! Bad block 3, just like the others have reported.

This sounds like a possible ACPI issue to me.

[Bug 666901] [NEW] Gnome-keyboard-properties does not provide a method for mapping media keys

2010-10-26 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The keys most susceptible to mis-mapping are the media keys. Case in
point: my Dell-branded Microsoft Natural Pro keyboard has mismapped
volume and play-control keys under every layout I've ever tried.

Media keys should appear on the layout images, and there should be a
mechanism to easily map them to their correct functions in the keyboard
properties applet.

[Bug 655246] [NEW] software-center does not provide enough information when a package fails to install

2010-10-05 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

When a package fails to install, software-center informs you of the
fact, but does not tell you which package, nor why. It is not obvious
how to retrieve the log.

You can find out later by clicking on the explosion-icon on the panel,
but this does not seem related to the task.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
Package: software-center 3.0.2
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-22.33-generic 2.6.35.4

This is not restricted to ripping. It is also a factor with pre-
existing compilations, soundtracks, and albums with single-track guest
artists.

[Bug 654694] [NEW] insists on unnecessary alteration of target partition

2010-10-04 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Installation blocked by requirement of partition write access, although
the partition table is already set up correctly. This may be related
to ticking the format checkbox.

Use case:
Advanced user / developer; frequent test installs of RCs and betas to a
secondary partition on my main drive. Prefer to install via grub loopback from
a boot-iso partion, to improve install speed and to avoid burning use-once
install media. Obviously cannot unmount the boot-iso partition to permit the
unnecessary partition change.

This report is possibly related to #598743, but is not restricted to
Xubuntu, still applies to 10.10, and with a more compelling explanation
of severity and applicability.

[Bug 611010] [NEW] Add Application Launcher should default to showing apps matching filter

2010-07-28 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The Add Application Launcher find text field has very poor ergonomics.
The workflow is always the same: I type a unique filter string, and then
choose the matching application. The applet should

(a) hide all categories that are empty as a result of the filter string, and
(b) default to expanding categories that are not empty, and
(c) if only one application remains, it should be pre-selected so I can add by
pressing enter.
