If backports are dead, maybe the people who used to be in charge should
state it clearly. Otherwise, you're just making people waste their time.

[Bug 1124735] [NEW] Please sync tickr 0.6.3-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2013-02-13 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Public bug reported:

Please sync tickr 0.6.3-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

New features and bug fixes for v0.6.3-1 (from debian/changelog):

tickr (0.6.3-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Fix messy update_everything() function and add new
update_pixmap_from_opened_stream() function, used in tickr_mainc.c
and tickr_prefwin.c.

  * All *string* values are now saved inclosed in a pair of or '.
(This avoid getting trailing whitespaces removed by some editors,
and other weird things like that.) When read, enclosing or ' are
removed, so backward compatibility is preserved.

  * install-on-win32 script renamed build-on-win32 (for accuracy sake.)

  * Fix some confusion about win_transparency in tickr_param.c.
Actually, double value from 0.1 to 1.0 inside program / int value
from 1 to 10 inside config file or as command line argument.

  * Fix settings import doing nothing (regression bug).

  * In show_resource_info(), fix URL link and GTK label.

  * Move and set:
  #define N_STR_MAX 8
  #define STR_MAXLENFILE_NAME_MAXLEN(128 previously)
and remove duplicates.

  * In tickr_feedpicker.c, add:
  if (IS_FLIST(flist_bak))
(  f_list_free_all(flist_bak);  )
to fix: list crash (f_list_free_all(): Invalid node in list) after
adding a feed to an empty list (when clicking OK).

  * Rename (#define RESOURCE_DUMP) APP_CMD-resrc-dump -
APP_CMD-resrc-dump.xml (because it *is* an XML file.)

  * Little changes in big_error() text.

[Bug 1027048] [NEW] Sync tickr 0.6.2-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2012-07-20 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Public bug reported:

Please sync tickr 0.6.2-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

Changelog entries since current quantal version 0.6.1-1:

tickr (0.6.2-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Non standard feed rank support in OPML file.

  * Add new optional 'feed re-ordering by user' feature.

  * Add in libetm-0.4.4/str_mem.c/h: (int) str_is_num(const char *) and
(int) str_is_blank(const char *).

  * In feed picker win, 'enter' in (rank_/url_)entry launches 'add/upd'
(GTK_RESPONSE_ADD) instead of 'ok (single)' (GTK_RESPONSE_SINGLE).

  * Question at program start-up about new feed list format conversion:
if version = 0.6.2 and feed list exists and feed list backup doesn't
exist, create backup and convert to new format.

  * In tickr_feedpicker.c: fix 'cancel' action.

  * New func FList *f_list_clone(FList *) in tickr_list/c/h.

  * Use GTK_RESPONSE_CANCEL_CLOSE only.

  * In compute_surface_and_win(), remove:
  if (prm-icon_in_taskbar == 'n')
gtk_window_deiconify(GTK_WINDOW(env-win));
from update_win_dims() (why was it there?) to fix 'tickr keeps
stealing focus' bug. Also replace params_have_been_changed() with
win_params_have_been_changed(). (LP: #900759, #951452, #1017107)

  * Fix (regression bug) segfault which occurs when opening text file
and attempting to 'format_resource()' 'not-generated-if-resource-is-
file' XML_DUMP_EXTRA file.

  * Libetm version 0.4.3 - 0.4.4 (see below.)

  * Add get_appdata-dir_w() in libetm-0.4.4:win32_specific.c and
get_appdata_dir_utf8() in tickr_resource.c to fix non-ascii (for
instance cyrillic) user name in app data dir issue on win32.
Also remove seemingly useless g_win32_locale_filename_from_utf8()
stuff on win32.

  * If 'item title' and 'item description' both unchecked in pref win,
warn about 'pointless' setup and ask for confirmation before saving
config.

  * Add new TickerEnv member (int) mouse_x_in_drwa used to continuously
tracks (guess what?) mouse x position. Now we have:
- tooltips with descriptions when ticker displays only titles
and
- tooltips with titles when ticker displays only descriptions.

  * Add fp_extra stuff in tickr_feedparser.c to get item titles /
descriptions (in tooltips and others) when they are no displayed.

  * Remove tmp files when exiting tickr_resource.c:format_resource().

  * Add env-c_surf test in shift2left_callback(). (LP: #1011316)

[Bug 1010444] [NEW] No way to give answers to reviews/ratings

2012-06-08 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Public bug reported:

(Not a bug, rather a feature suggestion.)

It would be useful to be able to answer some reviews or to offer the
reviewer the ability to easily generate a bug report from his comment.
For instance, if a reviewer don't know how to use a certain feature of
the software, it could be useful to be able to give this information
after his comment. And, if a reviewer reports a broken feature, it could
be useful as well to have this information sent to the upstream dev.

The idea is to use constructively negative feedback from users.

[Bug 1007873] Re: Nautilus should have Up, Home and Reload buttons in the toolbar

2012-06-04 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 885592 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885592

Just my opinion: The 'up' button is one single-click and very
convenient, for me more convenient than 'previous' and 'next'. I think
it would be much better if the user could configure/decide which buttons
are showing up and which are not, rather than having one of them removed
'arbitrarily'.

[Bug 1007346] Re: multiple non-default preferences conflict

2012-06-01 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Thanks for reporting that. There are actually 2 lines of code that, in
order to prevent the ticker to become 'unshowable', always silently
deiconify it when 'icon in taskbar' is disabled.

(from tickr_main.c:)
/* This is to prevent win from becoming 'unshowable' */
if (prm-icon_in_taskbar == 'n')
gtk_window_deiconify(GTK_WINDOW(env-win));

Do you think this is the reason of what you reported, and do you think
these 2 lines should be removed ?

Anyways, a warning should popup, at least, to let the user know what's
going on.

[Bug 1007346] Re: multiple non-default preferences conflict

2012-06-01 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
The problem is there is *no* warning. I think I'll comment out/remove
those 2 lines anyways, because they just bring confusion to the user.

BTW, are you using Unity? Because Unity doesn't always behave in a very
'standard' way and there has been issues in Tickr expected behaviour.
Fortunately, most of these issues have just disappeared with newer
versions of Unity.

But I will have a closer look at the code and let you know.
Also feel free to bring suggestions if you wish to, they are welcome :)

[Bug 1007346] Re: multiple non-default preferences conflict

2012-06-01 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
I think I've just found what was wrong in my code and I've made a fix
that will be included in version 0.6.1 (which I'm about to upload and
should go shortly into Debian unstable, if everything goes well.)

I want to apologize to Unity devs (who do a great job) for *unfairly*
putting the blame on Unity behaviour, whereas the bug was in my code.
Sorry guys.

Well, thanks Aaron for reporting that. Version 0.6.1 should appear in
Ubuntu in a couple of weeks. I'll keep this bug open until it is
confirmed as fixed, so feel free to report here again.

[Bug 903787] Re: update-apt-xapian-index behaviour (on natty and ?)

2012-05-06 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
I agree. The workaround of removing the package is far from perfect as
many users don't know what's going wrong when their computer starts to
hang because of apt-xapian-index. It's almost impossible to open a
terminal and launch 'top' or whatever until indexing completes. And for
an unexperienced user, it's very difficult to identify which process and
package are involved.

[Bug 922433] [NEW] Adding a 'Reset to default settings' button

2012-01-26 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Public bug reported:

This is more a feature request than a bug report. It would be very useful to
have a 'Reset to default settings' button (although I don't know if it's
possible.) That would prevent some users from messing their desktop up and not
being able to reverse their changes. And it would allow all users to tweak
compiz (which is a great piece of sotware) more safely, without being scared of
breaking their system.
Thanks.

[Bug 912732] Re: tickr no longer shows on all desktops

2012-01-11 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Reporting bugs is what makes apps improving so it's definitely good
etiquette. :) I will now be waiting for some feedback from unity devs
that could clarify the situation but I guess they must still be quite
busy.

[Bug 912732] Re: tickr no longer shows on all desktops

2012-01-10 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
I didn't find anything wrong in the code (at least so far.)

I want to say that I'm *not* going to put the blame on unity (which is a
great piece of software) for every bugs discovered in the app, it's just
that the 2 ones you reported could actually be some odd responses of the
window manager (which is unity in your case.) Plus, unity has recently
gone through a lot of development and that implies issues still to be
fixed.

[Bug 903726] [NEW] update-apt-xapian-index crap on natty

2011-12-13 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Public bug reported:

I've noticed that update-apt-xapian-index was able to run with high
priority at any time. Why? It should only be able to either run with a
lower priority or it should ask the user before starting. I don't think
this only happens on natty. Of course there are fixes but this default
behaviour is relly pissing off users (well, me at least).

[Bug 900759] Re: tickr keeps stealing focus

2011-12-06 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
No prob ;) One thing you can do is unchecking 'window always-on-top' so
that tickr, once in the background, will stay there (although I don't
know if this is the behaviour you wish it to have.) If this doesn't
solves the problem, just let me know.

(Off-topic: version 0.5.4 is now in Ubuntu backports so you may upgrade
by simply enabling backports. Not that many changes, but several bug-
fixes.)

Best regards,

Manu

the first available version in Ubuntu so you should first remove tickr
then install it (sudo apt-get install tickr.)

[Bug 879880] [NEW] Tickr doesn't build on Oneiric and Precise

2011-10-22 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Public bug reported:

Tickr doesn't build on Oneiric and Precise. This relates to new linker
flag --as-needed enabled by default in those series. A workaround is
just adding -Wl,--no-as-needed to LDFLAGS in Makefile.am. After
applying the patch, autoconf and automake, it just build fine.

** Affects: tickr (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
