[Bug 1700043] [NEW] Thunderbird unable to print/preview

2017-06-23 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade to 17.04 thunderbird no longer prints. Even preview is
not working. I tried two different printers, txt and html messages. The
preview window comes empty (see attachement) and the printed sheets come
only with header and footer, but no content (html messages produce only
some horizontal lines, but no real content rendering). My printers are
an HP Laserjet and a Samsung CLP laser.

[Bug 1696179] [NEW] When selecting fonts, font weight varies

2017-06-06 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure this is a teak problem or a generic font display problem.
The fact is that I'm trying to select a comfortable font using gnome-
tweak-tool and the font picker doesn't always display the fonts in the
same way. I attach two examples, taken with a couple of seconds delay.
One is the font picker for "Interface" and the other is for "Documents".
Same font, same size, different weight when visualising. If I alternate
between the two, they always display different.

[Bug 1692330] Re: firefox hangs using 100% cpu

2017-05-21 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Managed to put my finger on the pattern. Had something to do with stored
passwords. Tried to import stored passwords with Chromium and the same
thing happened. It's probably a corrupted sqlite file. :-(

Moved away the firefox folder in .mozilla and the problem went away.

Posted this bug before, but this time I caught it really hanging up.
Maybe the report is more useful this time.

[Bug 1692298] [NEW] firefox hangs using 100% cpu

2017-05-21 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

Firefox is hanging with no special pattern. It can be loading a saved
tab, open a new page, using an already opened page. It simply starts
using 100% cpu and becomes unusable, never coming back (>100 minutes).
This is random, happening a lot, but not always.

[Bug 1677313] [NEW] Temporary keyboard and mouse freeze (5+ minutes) while copying big file

2017-03-29 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

While copying a big file from SSD to HD the whole interface froze, the
only exception being that rhythmbox kept playing the radio stream with
just 2 or 3 very minor hicups. After the copy finished, all went back to
normal.

This has happened before but only with very large files (> 1GB). With
small files no problems arise.

[Bug 1644986] [NEW] Screen flickering since 16.10 upgrade

2016-11-26 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

I'm noticing some random screen flickering since 16.10 upgrade.
Something like every 10 minutes, mainly on the secondary monitor (hdmi
connected), but sometimes on the laptop display too.

Not sure if it's related, but when using LibreOffice Impress to display
presentations on the secondary display the problem worsens, but it's
only flickering in parts of the display, not all.

[Bug 1285444] Re: Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads

2016-09-16 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Since an update a couple of days ago, I have the same symptoms.

I log in normally, the desktop appears (with icons) but nothing else.
With right mouse click I can open a terminal, but windows have no
borders and no menus.

I removed my ~/.config/dconf and .config/compiz-1 and checked my
.XAuthority permissions, but the problem subsists.

My .xsession-errors only contain this:
openConnection: connect: No such file or directory
cannot connect to brltty at :0

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS

Fernando

[Bug 1589073] Re: nm-applet not showing existing wifi connection

2016-06-07 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Software updater says I have everything up-to-date.

Here is my current list of network-manager packages:

dpkg --list | grep network-manager
ii network-manager 1.1.93-0ubuntu4
  amd64network management framework (daemon and
userspace tools)
ii network-manager-gnome 1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
  amd64network management framework (GNOME frontend)
ii network-manager-pptp 1.1.93-1ubuntu1
  amd64network management framework (PPTP plugin
core)
ii network-manager-pptp-gnome1.1.93-1ubuntu1
  amd64network management framework (PPTP plugin
GNOME GUI)

Anyway, I already did a couple of updates since I posted this bug. And
I'm not experiencing the problem right now. Even before, the problem was
frequent but not constant. I'm monitoring the situation to see if it's
already solved by those updates.

[Bug 1481295] Re: virt-manager after upgrade: Error polling connection 'qemu:///system': internal error: could not get interface XML description: File operation failed - Failed to read (null)

2015-10-29 Thread Fernando Fernandez
I thought this was resolved with some update, since it started working
some weeks ago. But from these comments I understand that it isn't. :-)

I remembered that I used to have an eth0:1 interface and just tried it
again. The problem returns when the interface eth0:1 is up.

The ifconfig -a output is:

Correction: the problem returns when the interface is *defined* in
/etc/network/interfaces like this:

iface eth0:1 inet static
address 192.168.1.1

[Bug 1481295] Re: virt-manager after upgrade: Error polling connection 'qemu:///system': internal error: could not get interface XML description: File operation failed - Failed to read (null)

2015-10-29 Thread Fernando Fernandez
I thought this was resolved with some update, since it started working
some weeks ago. But from these comments I understand that it isn't. :-)

I remembered that I used to have an eth0:1 interface and just tried it
again. The problem returns when the interface eth0:1 is up.

The ifconfig -a output is:

Correction: the problem returns when the interface is *defined* in
/etc/network/interfaces like this:

iface eth0:1 inet static

netmask 255.255.255.0

Just to add that the VM domain can be successfully started by hand,
with the virsh start command and I can use it with the virt-viewer
command.

[Bug 1417072] [NEW] Thunderbird address auto-completion is ignoring frequency

2015-02-02 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

Since a couple of weeks now thunderbird lost the ability to suggest
message addressing based on frequency.

Usually, when composing a message, most used addresses would come on top
of the drop-down address list. Now, the most used addresses come almost
at the end of the list.

This is very annoying, since we usually trust TB for most used addresses
(our colleages) and this means team messages now tend to go to
outsiders, when we are in a hurry.

[Bug 1398909] [NEW] mysql-workbench 6.1.7+dfsg-1ubuntu1 doesn't connect through ssh tunnel

2014-12-03 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 6.1.7+dfsg-1ubuntu1 the connections I have with ssh
tunnelling stopped working.

Error message shown:

Tunnel error: Remote connection to 127.0.0.1:3306 failed:
AttributeError('Transport' object has no attribute 'window_size',)

Still, If I create an ssh tunnel on the shell command line and connect
the workbench through it, it works.

I'm connecting with a server with version 5.1.69 on CentOS 6.4.

[Bug 1299792] Re: Xorg dumping core on Hibrid graphics Intel+ATI

2014-03-30 Thread Fernando Fernandez
This bug filing might not be complete because ubuntu-bug was not working
at the time. Only managed to send the bug after having found a
workaround.

You can see a small history of the problem at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2213955

Summarising:
Xorg on live usb stick doesn't find the ATI card, so it works with the intel
one, and it's fine, apparently.

After install, the same Xorg finds different list of hardware, including
the ATI card and tries to work with it, and dumps core.

[Bug 1299792] Re: Xorg dumping core on Hibrid graphics Intel+ATI

2014-03-30 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Here is the xorg logfile from the situation where it dumps core. It's
after the first reboot.

Apparently, X finds a different list of hardware, tries to use the ATI
card and fails.

[Bug 564216] Re: Unable to use Toshiba Tecra R10 internal 3G modem

2011-03-29 Thread Fernando Fernandez
I'm using maverick in that laptop since it came out, and I always update
when updates are available. The problem still exists.

Like Higuita, when I connect a 3g usb modem it works immediately, with
no further conf necessary.

Is there a log file with more info where I can look into?

I also checked it's not a sim card/pin problem, because I used the same
card/pin with the two modems (internal and external).

[Bug 564216] [NEW] Unable to use Toshiba Tecra R10 internal 3G modem

2010-04-15 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

This problem is also present in the previous 9.10 release. Just checked
and it still behaves the same way in 10.04 beta.

My Toshiba Tecra R10 comes with an internal 3G modem. It's recognised
ok. But when I try to connect to the ISP it just fails with no other
error. The problem might be that it forgets to ask for the PIN code.

If I connect my Nokia phone with an USB cable it works just fine.

Here are the logs. First the log of the failed attempt with internal
modem. The the log of successful attempt with the Nokia phone.

In 10.04 it's listed only once. That seems to have been solved. It still
doesn't connect, though. :-(

[Bug 453205] Re: CTRL-ALT-F1 switches off the LCD backlight in Toshiba Tecra R10

2010-03-27 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Since I reported this bug two things to note:
1. Logout no longer turns off the backlight permanently - the login screen
turns it on
2. CTRL-ALT-F1 does, but CTRL-ALT-F7 turns it on again - the system is usable

Also: Lucid beta 1 still is affected

I installed and updated a lucid beta today and there is now an option to
disable the user list. Seems it's solved.

2010-02-08 Thread Fernando Fernandez
UPDATE: Since the new kernel didn't show up in the grub boot menu I
tried to do update-grub by hand. It was worse.

update-grub insists in maintaining a menu.lst and seems to ignore
whatever is in the /etc/grub.d directory. Now, my grub boot menu only
has two kernels and the other OSses that are in the disk (Windows
Ubuntu 9.10 32bit) were ignored.

Maybe the new update-grub is not from the grub2...?

2010-02-08 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Found the problem: somehow grub2 was uninstalled and old grub was
installed. I can't say for sure when that happened. I don't recall doing
it, neither having any reason to do it. :-(

2010-02-05 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

The update manager rebooted the machine before ending the update
process. After reboot it reported that the update process was
interrupted and instructed me to run dpkg by hand, witch I did.

But dpkg insisted that the grub menu.lst was not found and only
proceeded to finish when I allowed it to generate a new menu.lst.

The machine now works, but the new kernel does not appear in the Grub
menu when it boots.

[Bug 488904] Re: No video apps are able to show video. Sound works ok.

2009-11-30 Thread Fernando Fernandez
OK. Here goes.

1. Steps: I take a video (like some m4v that I can watch with Quicktime for
Windows) and I open a video app like Totem or gnome mplayer or vlc,
2. Expectations: I would expect that the video would play, with sound.
3. Actual behavior: The programs give no error. They all show the progress bar
moving, and they all play the sound. But the video does not appear in the video
window. I attach a picture.
