[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%
Somehow after I updated through update-manager about an hour ago and restart, now it is working fine. I also notice a scroll bar on loginscreen (although I have only one user). After logged in, I notice the text (previous was 1.25) to seem a bit larger.. And I goto settings/monitor. Now (at least for me) fractional scaling is working. What I tested: 100%->125% 125%->100% 125%->150% 150%->100% and everything was as expected. [Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%
Noveau fractional scaling is fine, but pc works on slow motion.. marco-carrarini's solution seems perfect in the beginning, but many apps do not work as they should.. so I used to change to default while using such an app and return to the solution elsewhere. But after a while I dismiss the solution. Now I am just waiting the fix while running the temporary solution of 1.25 font scale. ps. there is a catch. Since my previous comment I am trying to reproduce the error. In the beginning it asks password no matter what. So the password is gone again. But I test it without addons installed (as in the first place (with the photo of my screen I sent above) and with the two addons I use (Advanced Volume Mixer by Hatell and GSConnect by andyholmes). The problem seems not to be reproducible. Although today morning as the day before, it was there. I suspend and resume over 10 times now, and it seems to be ok. [Bug 1803527] Re: ubuntu 18.10 fails to restore from suspend if no password
This is not the same bug. The top panel respond but it has only suspend option enabled. So, the solution for me is: 1. ctrl+alt+F1 , put my password and see all opened windows once again (without restart) 2. restart 3. enable asking password after suspend* *to explain that (because of the other bug): The change I did is to disable from gnome-settings the privacy/lock screen/automatic lock screen option. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803527 Title: ubuntu 18.10 fails to restore from suspend if no password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1803527/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1803527] Re: ubuntu 18.10 fails to restore from suspend if no password
It happens that after I original post this bug the frequency unreasonably decreased. But the problem is not solved with deactivated extensions. Although I experience a suspicious behaviour on extensions removal. I'll describe it on the end. Re-description of the problem: After a 5min black screen enabled (less time more checks) and return. When If I have no apps open and no password, everything returns normally. If I have libreoffice (sometimes - I couldn't find the exact parameter) or xfburn working, then the fail returns. What I see a purple responding desktop but panels (topbar and dash) responds to mouse clicks. I have only suspend option on power options enabled (instead of settings, lock, power buttons). So, I just press ctrl+alt+f1, enter my password and the environment is restored but a little slower than normally. This could happen again, so again ctrl+alt+f1.. and so What if If I check on the options that I want my password to be asked, then everything is going well. Comment The reason I was late to answer is because the effect's frequency dropped so I couldn't find out if the deactivation of extensions was responsible or something else. Now I think that it was something else I could not figure out. Suspicious extension removal I tried to remove some extensions that I did not use anyway, so I tried to remove them through firefox and extensions.gnome page. Some of them I have to update them first and after that I have to remove them. But.. after I removed 5 or 6 of them, the removed ones re-appeared. So, I tried to remove them through software centre. It removed them and now it doesn't show them. But I still see them of gnome-tweak (which has similar behaviour with the site) and on the extensions.gnome site... and on my desktop activated. I press alt+f2 +r but they stayed. I rebooted and tried to removed them again in several ways, but always the same. So I just keep them deactivated.

What happened: in case of no password (I should just 'swipe up' or press 'space' and everything should be ready.. but) most of the times I can not return to desktop. - freezes on a screen with panels but no desktop - freezes on a purple screen that no command is working (as ctrl+alt+t) - freezes on a useless gnome panels (dash and topbar) mode solution chosen: I press ctrl+alt+F1 to change environment, I enter my password... BUT again the gnome is too slow, app icon is always on and everything is acting weird (some apps' icon that I have opened on the other session is liked pined on dash without have the option to unpin it - like I see it but it is not pinned) So, I just save what I can through the new session and just restart the pc (in new session is available - in the previous is only suspend available) frequency: about 80% of the times. If lock-screen showed up normally (and I have to press space to unlock) everything works like a charm afterwards. If not.. it will be the mess I described above hope it helps + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13.1 + Architecture: amd64 + CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME + DisplayManager: gdm3 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-08-28 (84 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) + NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia + Package: gnome-shell 3.30.1-2ubuntu1 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm-256color + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG=el_GR.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.18.0-11.12-generic 4.18.12 + Tags: cosmic + Uname: Linux 4.18.0-11-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to cosmic on 2018-10-19 (32 days ago) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True ** Attachment added: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803527/+attachment/5214593/+files/Dependencies.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803527 Title: ubuntu 18.10 fails to restore from suspend if no password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1803527/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1726626] Re: No matter the interface Ubuntu 17.10 freezes
Unfortunately I am not an advanced user to provide information like the above (I don't even understand these), but I do know that I want to help and I do know that Ubuntu 17.10 is the first (I am using ubuntu since 11.04) that I cannot afford (it is worse than windows!). Issue: Randomly the environment freezes. I can use the mouse. I can move to another "screen" (I do not know the proper name): ctrl+alt+f2 and close open apps (through command line) like firefox or thunderbird or nautilus but nothing changes.. when or if I can go back to ctrl+alt+f7. If ubuntu only 'wants that' then it will unfreeze. The only solution I was found is the reset button.. Thank's libreoffice for automatic backups or I would have changed the OS already. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726626 Title: No matter the interface Ubuntu 17.10 freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1726626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1713323] Re: HiDPI support partially broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.25
with the-minute-before-updates, including nvidia 384-90, topbar's text (where the clock lays down), dash's text changes in a chaotic way through gnome-tweak-tool. When I change the values, it changes in a normal way only the already correct text size (like nautilus text and gnome-tweak-took's window-text). windows title's text: correct (normal changing) topbar's text, dash's text: wrong (chaotic changing) Issue: Chaotic changing. The size of the text on dash and the size of the text and size of topbar changes in a very strange way. From a value to the next it can be either normal, tiny in a random way. For example when change from value 0,81 to 0,80.. 0,81 is tiny and 0,80 is normal. But after some changes maybe both 0,8 and 0,81 be tiny or normal or otherwise. That is happening at all values between 0,80 and 1,00 that I checked. At start I tried to find a pattern and put here the values that happened, but there are not such values, if I change the values from 0,8 to 1,0 I get different result than if I change them from 1,0 to 0,8. ** Summary changed: - HiDPI support partially broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.25 + HiDPI support partially broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.25, 3.26 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713323 Title: HiDPI support partially broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.25, 3.26 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1713323/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1713323] Re: HiDPI support partially broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.25
Info: Ubuntu 17:10 upgraded from 17:04 (64bit) gnome-shell --version: GNOME Shell 3.26.0 loginctl show-session 3 -p Type: Type=x11 Screen resolution: 3840x2160 VGA: nvidia 1050ti - 384.69 kernel: 4.13.0-11-generic Status: 1. every update is applied. 2. tested with gnome extensions I've install, 'on' and 'off': result was the same 3. Gnome-tweak-tool - my default font size setting: 0,8 (I think that 0,8 - 0,9 is ok. With value less than 0,8 text is too small and with bigger than 0,9 ..should be under "universal access"=is too big). Problem: 1. The gnome topbar is too small (both size and text), time and date are barely visible. 2. The dash's texts are also too small (names of the apps - under app's icons) 3. The window titlebar's text is tiny, although it's size is fine Temporary Workaround (old ones - from a dupplicate bug): 1. if restart environment (alt+f2, r + enter) --> this fixes topbar size but leave other apps like nautilus untouched (which is fine cause they are working fine already) 2. if change font size through gnome-tweak-tool --> this fixes topbar size but also changes nautilus font size, which is not good, because nautilus font is already ok Temporary Workaround (NEW - fastest): 1. change font size in any value through gnome-tweak-tool. For me, change from 0,80 to 0,81 and back to 0,8 solves the problem. BUT: The workarounds mentioned above are temporary because the setting is undone after reboot. Other Issues: 1. with font size on 1.00 (through gnome-tweak-tool) everything is very big. 2. Many Topicons are very small (like viber, telegram, skype, mega) Others (variety, deluge) are fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713323 Title: HiDPI support partially broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.25 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1713323/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1710350] [NEW] black screen after suspend
Public bug reported: ubuntu 17.10 (gnome 3.24.2) 4.11.0-13-generic GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 - 384.59 AMD® Fx(tm)-4170 quad-core processor × 4 monitor 3840x2160 (dvi) It happens on 1 of 3 times. I don't know what causes that. When I am going to leave my pc for several hours I put it first on suspend/sleep mode. At about one third of resumes (from suspend mode) a black screen occurs and there is nothing I could do about it (except from hard reset). If something is pressed by keyboard like 'ctrl+alt+F1' or F2, screen starts again black (it searches for signal - backlight turned on - working mode). Now, no hidpi option (the 1,2,..) exists on gnome-tweaks. Ideally, hidpi could be set automatically depending on monitor size and resolution. Less ideally, it could be an option like unity's system-setting with more values (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, ...) [Bug 1481516] [NEW] ubuntu installer modifies EFI configuration on wrong harddrive
Public bug reported: During installation, users are asked to specify what harddrive they would like to install on, or in the advanced mode, what harddrive that would like to install the bootloader on. At least with EFI, this selection seems to be disregarded. This has happened to me three different times. The first two times, I was installing Ubuntu onto an external harddrive, and after very carefully instructing it to install the bootloader onto the external harddrive, it mangled EFI setup of the internal harddrive both times (once each on machines with Mac and Ubuntu installed internally). The third time was today, where Windows was on one harddrive and I was installing Kubuntu on a blank harddrive that I had just added. I intended to use the new, Linux harddrive primarily, and I set my BIOS to boot from it, but I didn't see any reason to take the old one out of the computer. After installing, the system would not boot, and it was only when I tried to boot into Windows that I found that grub had been installed on the wrong harddrive. I don't have an exact version of Ubiquity, but the Kubuntu 15.04 image that I downloaded today did this. To be clear, the first two times I was using Ubuntu (not Kubuntu) 15.05. [Bug 1107491] Re: gnome-system-monitor doesn't shows the real amount of RAM is used
Summary (more clear) --- What expected: Without any instance of vmware player running, 1,7gb RAM is shown as “used” under gnome-system-monitor. When opening multiple vmware players, the amount of RAM is shown under gnome-system-monitor changes. Eg. If two vmware players were running (2gb RAM each), then about 5gb RAM is shown as “used” under gnome-system-monitor. --- What happened: Without any instance of vmware player running, 1,7gb RAM is shown as “used” under gnome-system-monitor. When opening multiple vmware players, the amount of RAM is shown under gnome-system-monitor didn't change. Eg. If two vmware players were running (2gb RAM each), then about 1,9gb RAM is shown as “used” under gnome-system-monitor. --- Opinion: I suppose this is a bug. The reason: if amount of “must-have-been-used-RAM” was calculated (by me), and I ran this size of vmware-RAM, then my pc crashes. But gnome-system-monitor said that only 1,7Gb of RAM was used. Eg. PC's RAM: 8Gb each vmware player: 2Gb system: about 2Gb ---RAM calculated by me So, 2 vmware players + system → RAM: full ….. Real result: system crashes! [Bug 1107491] [NEW] gnome-system-monitor doesn't shows the real amount of RAM is used
Public bug reported: 1) ubuntu 12.10 64bit 2) gnome-system-monitor 3.6.0 3) Whenever I used vmware player and chose an amount of ram for the virtual os, despite of how much ram was used by the virtual os, I want to see the summary of the RAM was used under Resources. Firstly I thought that was the way it is. Then I used windows and vmware player in them. I noticed that on 'task manager / processes' didn't indicate this amount, exactly as gnome-system-manager on ubuntu. Although, on 'task manager / performance' there was all of it! So, I expect to see the whole amount of RAM is used under 'gnome-system-monitor / resources' 4) [ I don't know how gnome-system-monitor calculates the amount of RAM. I add the amount of all processes (maybe stupid?) and the result was less. ] When the vmware player starts, the amount of used ram comes up a little. When the virtual os starts, the amount of ram doesn't change. (it changes from 1,9gb to 2,1gb) The virtual os (windows in this test) said that they were using 1gb. 5) I don't know what to hope: - hope that this is really a bug and I hadn't spam you - hope that windows task manager was wrong and actually windows uses 200mb of ram in virtual(!) The reason I post that bug was that ubuntu freezes when opening three vmware players alongside. From the gnome-system-monitor side of view, it didn't make any sense to me (cpu low, ram low). From the task manager side of view.. I had exceeded the amount of my ram (cpu low), which make sense. I hope that helps. thank you :) ** Affects: gnome-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1107491 Title: gnome-system-monitor doesn't shows the real amount of RAM is used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/1107491/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1069760] [NEW] failed to control 7.1 speaker volume through sound menu
Public bug reported: 1) ubuntu 12.10 (fresh install), but also happens to 11.10 and 12.04 2) (translated from my language) gnome-control-center: Installed: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu19 Suggested: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu19 Edition matrix: *** 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu19 0 500 http://gr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) what expected --- can control volume through indicator as i could if stereo or 5.1 configuration is set up 4) -what happened-- i used 7.1 analog configuration (hardware: creative x-fi xtreme music, creative inspire t7900) and the only way to control the volume correct is through qasmixer. On a fresh install i have no sound on center speaker and there is no way to fix it (without qasmixer) through gnome-control-center\sound. I post it as bug of gnome-control-center\sound because I suppose it is. Every other speaker configuration works fine. I supose that the normal in this case is to can control the volume through gnome-control-center\sound (or indicator) without any other software. The solution i gave to myself was to set the volume from the gnome-control-center\sound to max, and control the rest through the qasmixer... but i wish it works in a normal way. Now, the gnome-control-center\sound and the sound indicator (the volume option, not the hole thing) are totally useless to me. 5) hope it helps ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: gnome-control-center 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu19 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-17.28-generic 3.5.5 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Oct 22 14:11:11 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) SourcePackage: gnome-control-center UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) usr_lib_gnome-control-center: activity-log-manager-control-center 0.9.4-0ubuntu4 deja-dup24.0-0ubuntu1 gnome-control-center-signon 0.0.18-0ubuntu1 indicator-datetime 12.10.2-0ubuntu3 ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug quantal running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069760 Title: failed to control 7.1 speaker volume through sound menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1069760/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
