[Bug 1287621] [NEW] Java Swing Application windows with corrupt bottom area
Public bug reported: Java Swing application windows tend to have some corrupt area at the bottom when running under compiz. This problem is similiar to the one reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/archlinux/+source/compiz/+bug/1138517 . Unfortunately, the fix made for this bug solves the problem only for popup dialog windows. It is still present for main application windows (and also for splash images, which do not have window decorations). The problem does not happen everytime, but quite often enough. Please see a screenshot of IntelliJ IDEA showing it (the bottom area is corrupted, thus not displaying important information to the user). This is NOT a problem related to IntelliJ, as it happens with other swing applications as well. Workaround: Closing and re-opening the application helps (sometimes, it must be closed and re-opened several times). Thanks! I installed 0.9.10 from the PPA. Unfortunately, this does NOT fix the bug for me! (see screenshot: a dialog from IntelliJ IDEA) I use IntelliJ a lot, and the problem frequently appears with dialog windows (note: sometimes they are displayed correctly, sometimes the are not). While it is possible to use window controls in distorted dialogs, the bottom part of the window is not rendered correctly. Also, dialogs are shifting down per title-bar height as they are closed and reopened several times. ** Attachment added: Bildschirmphoto_041_Auswahl.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1138517/+attachment/3719020/+files/Bildschirmphoto_041_Auswahl.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1138517 Title: Latest compiz update breaks Java Swing decorations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1138517/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 998805] Re: Wireless not connecting on bootup in 12.04 (Intel Wifi Link 5100)
The problem is, that sometimes after booting Ubuntu, the wireless connection is not operational (e.g. ping in a console window shows nothing), although the network manager icons shows that connection is established. It is more likely (almost 100%) to happen if the machine hasn't been used for several days (which suggests to me it has something to do with obtaining dhcp leases). Since the situation does not always happen, I had some trouble to figure out how to exactly reproduce the problem: And even with the steps below, sometimes the wifi will work from the beginning as expected. However, steps that increase the chances to reproduce it are: * boot into ubuntu. * turn off wifi with the rfkill switch * sudo rm /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient* * reboot the system. At the GRUB screen, turn on the rfkill switch again, so that wifi is enabled at boot time * log into ubuntu. network manager will show a wifi connected icon (which is not the whole truth). * open up a console window and type ping www.ubuntu.com. Nothing will be shown on the console Steps to get wifi operational if it does not work after bootup: * turn off rfkill switch. Wait until network manager popped up a message saying wifi disconnected * turn it on again Alternative: * boot with wifi disabled by the rfkill switch * turn it on only *after* having logged in to your session Notes: * deleting the dhcp lease seams to be essential to reproduce the fault (well, almost always). If the system boots up and can re-use the current lease, wifi will work properly from the start. The attached syslog contains several boot cycles. In some of them (e.g. the first one) the wifi did not initialize properly, in some others (e.g. the last one) it did. I will also try to install a mainline kernel and report back then. ** Attachment added: syslog-wlan.tar.gz https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/998805/+attachment/3162610/+files/syslog-wlan.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998805 Title: Wireless not connecting on bootup in 12.04 (Intel Wifi Link 5100) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/998805/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The remaining problem I mentioned above is induced by some wrong calculations in my Java code. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878934 Title: Menu selection is wrong in Java apps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/878934/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Jean Chris: I have just checked it with my own application. It looks much better now, but there is still a problem if the popup is to open near the bottom or right edge of the screen. [Bug 921289] [NEW] Closing Maximized Java Window does not refresh screen properly
Public bug reported: When closing a java (swing) application window which is in maximized state, the screen contents are not properly refreshed (that is, background or underlying windows are not redrawn correctly): Only the portion of the screen which would have been occupied if the java window would have been non-maximized is redrawn correctly; the surrounding area is not. [Bug 878934] Re: Menu selection is wrong in Java apps
I have this same bug and would like to provide this additional information to track down the problem: -) It did not happen with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty -) It DOES happen with Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric, even with the same jvm (oracle 1.6) -) It happens only if the Frame starts up in maximized mode, but not if the frame starts in non-maximized mode. -) If you toggle maximized state of the frame off, the offset problem will disappear. Toggling it back on will not make it appear again. -) To me it seems that the vertical offset is exactly the height of the global menu / window title bar. -) I currently have my Unity Launcher set to hide never. This causes popup elements of a java application to be horizontally misplaced: They are shifted to the left by width(launcher) pixels. This horizontal misplacement also is fixed as soon as the maximized state of the frame is changed for the first time. So, there seems to be some window initialization issue here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878934 Title: Menu selection is wrong in Java apps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/878934/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 796720] [NEW] suspend to RAM fails, leaving machine in zombie state
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pm-utils Suspending the machine fails if I am logged into the X session (unity). the pm-suspend.log says success to every suspend step, but then the machine goes into some zombie state: display goes dark, sound driver switches off, but the fan keeps running and the system is totally unresponsible. The only way to wake it up then is to press and hold the power button until it does a hard power down. (Which means file system check after the reboot...). This is 100% reproducible. BUT: If I don't login to the X session, but instead log into a virtual console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and call /usr/sbin/pm-suspend from there, the system suspends correctly and awakes from suspend as it should. This is also 100% reproducible! So I suspect this has something to do with a user application inhibiting proper suspend. Any ideas that could help tracking down the problem? [Bug 593258] [NEW] calendar applet and user switch / logout applet are frequently cutoff and unusable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel On my desktop, the calendar applet and/or the user switch/logout applet very often display only half of their widget area. For the calendar applet, this means that the time information is missing. For the user switch applet, this means that there is no logout button. In previous versions of Ubuntu, I also had problems with the panel: Frequently (but not always) the top and bottom panel were reverted after logging in. I had to call gnome-panel --replace in a console to reload the panel. This always fixed the issue. In Karmic there seems to be a patch for the reverted panels, because sometimes when logging in I can observe that the top and bottom panels are exchanged, but after a few seconds they automatically rearrange themselves to be on the right place again. gnome-panel --replace also fixes the cutoff applets. However, this is a new and very annoying bug, which is one of the sort which prevents non-power-users from using Ubuntu. How should I tell my friends Ubuntu is great, but occasionally you will not have an opportunity to logout anymore??? See the screenshot attached. Additional infos: I have the nvidia graphics driver and compiz running. Please let me know if I can provide some further information for tracking down this problem. [Bug 474834] Re: Booting Dell Vostro 1520 shows message mmc0: unknown controller version(2). You may experience problems
Hello Jeremy, I tested with kernel version 2.6.34-999 as described in the link you mentioned. Although I ran into some other problems because the nvidia driver could not be built during the kernel package install, by reading the kernel log file I could verify that the bug is still present. (See log file attached.) I also booted again with my current Ubuntu-fied kernel, which is 2.6.31-19 (also contained in the log). ** Attachment added: kernel log with boots from upstream 2.6.34 kernel and ubuntu 2.6.31 kernel http://launchpadlibrarian.net/45196851/kern.log.gz ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing -- Booting Dell Vostro 1520 shows message mmc0: unknown controller version(2). There was a recent update to the xserver-core package, which made the problem reappear (because it overrides the patched version paulus provided). I recollected all info from the posts above on how to apply the patch to the latest src and build the package yourself. These are the steps you have to run: First, 'cd' to a directory where you can safely download the source. Then mkdir xserver-xorg-core-src-karmic cd xserver-xorg-core-src-karmic apt-src install xserver-xorg-core wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33566768/xserver-xorg-1.6.4.diff cd xorg-server-1.6.4/xkb patch -p1 ../../xserver-xorg-1.6.4.diff cd ../.. sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-core_1.6.4-2ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb Have fun! -- Keyboard indicator shows additional layout null https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283128 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello Martin, the problem seems to be as follows: after your corrections the script finally works. Before, it always yielded an exit code != 0, because of the syntax errors. Now, I tracked down the problem by printing more logs. It turns out, that hal-system-smbios --st_wlan always yields 1 as the result, regardless of the position of the rfkill switch. Martin: After installing this latest patch, my WiFi STOPPED working, saying something like iwlagn: rfkill switch must be turned off in dmesg (alltough the rfkill switch definitely is ON) I am sorry but cannot reproduce the correct message, since I reinstalled the whole system from scratch and applied all the available updates one by one in order to isolate the problem. My situation is as follows: I installed Ubuntu Jaunty (64bit) from the live cd on a brand new Dell Vostro 1520. Everything worked fine, including WiFi. Then I applied all available updates, and after rebooting, the wireless access did not work anymore. So I decided to reinstall the system again and applying updates one by one. Now I have applied all of them (with wifi still working), except the following: hal libhal-storage1 libhal1 The currently installed version is 0.5.12~rc1+git20090403-0ubuntu1, the updated version would be 0.5.12~rc1+git20090403-0ubuntu3 for those 3 packages. If you can you point me to the source repository or to a description of the changes made, I could try to fix the problem and tell you what was wrong with the update. Thomas, I tried your patch (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/283128/comments/37) with my recent jaunty installation. Since I have a 64-Bit installation, I had to compile the package myself following your directions, but everything worked fine. Thomas, just to clarify: Do you have auto login enabled on your system? Your bug description is rather different from mine, and the discussion in bugzilla which you mentioned indicates that your problem could have to do with autologin. For me, the indicator works well for some time. It definitely does NOT add the ?? layout immediately when pressing the first key, as you wrote. But sometimes I can see the following error messages when waking up the system again: ata2: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x9 t4 (I am not sure if this is really the text displayed on the console; but I found this text in the syslog and it says the same thing. the text on the console disappears very fast) Then the system switches to a black screen with only the mouse pointer visible and completely locks up. I can move the mouse, but cannot do anything else. I have to hard power off the system then and reboot. See the attached log files for details (The resume time was Nov 16 15:13) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- resume from suspend throws ata exception and results in mouse pointer on black screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 286158] Re: keyboard layout falls back to default when opening file manager or file dialog
Based on the discussion at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=555261 it seems to me that the problem is slightly different: I have two keyboard layouts. The first one is USA, the second one is Germany dead grave acute. The German layout is marked as default in the table, but since I do not use the separate layout for each window, it turns out that this setting is not used at all, but instead the first layout in the table would be the global default. So, the default should be US in my case. BUT: If I open a new window as described above, the kbd layout always switches to GERMAN. So to me it looks, like the settings for separate layout for each window are somehow applied to the new window, although I do not want this behaviour. Anyway, it is very annoying :-( -- keyboard layout falls back to default when opening file manager or file dialog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286158 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 295118] [NEW] windows wobbling permanently when leaking into adjacent workspace
Public bug reported: With wobbly windows enabled, if I move a window to a new position so that it is partially visible on an adjacent workspace (left or right), the window will wobble permanently after I finished moving. E.g. if the window is shifted to the left, so that the left border of the window will not be on the active workspace anymore, AND the top border of the window is on top of the workspace (right below the top panel), the top left corner of the window will start to bounce and never stop. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- windows wobbling permanently when leaking into adjacent workspace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295118 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290339] Re: Window List sometimes mixes up windows from different workspaces
Regarding my examples 1 3 in the bug description, I have to make a correction based on further observation: It seems that this is not a bug, but only an irritating behaviour: Sometimes if I open an app which was maximized when I last closed it, and the app did not remember the maximized state but the position and size of the window, the new window will be slightly misplaced. Therefore, it could leak a few pixels into the next or previous workspace, which may or may not clearly visible. Since the window then is partially on this other workspace, too, its icon is displayed correctly in the window list. So, this is NOT a bug (and my description was wrong, because it can be seen on DEmaximized windows which just happen to be nearly as large as if they were maximized). However, the 2nd example, which is also what Andreas reported, is independent from the other ones. During the last few days, this effect did not reappear, however. -- Window List sometimes mixes up windows from different workspaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290339 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 286158] [NEW] keyboard layout falls back to default when opening file manager or file dialog
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu intrepid (development branch), I have defined two alternate keyboard layouts: Germany dead grave acute and English, with the german layout as default. Layout switching is set to both shift keys together change layout, separate layout for each window is NOT selected. When switching between different windows, everything works fine (which means: the layout keeps the same whichever I selected before), but when creating a new file manager window (e.g. choosing Places-Home Folder) the keyboard layout falls back to the german setting. The same applies if I choose some sort of file-open menu in an application which creates a file dialog. Further playing around with an already open file manager window does not change settings again, so it seems that it happens on creation of the window only. ** Affects: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: - On Ubuntu intrepid (development branch), I have defined to alternate + On Ubuntu intrepid (development branch), I have defined two alternate keyboard layouts: Germany dead grave acute and English, with the german layout as default.
