[Bug 1306900] [NEW] trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/tabmerge'

[Bug 1297147] Re: rm -rf . does not delete content of the dir

2014-04-02 Thread Hans Ginzel
This bug is also in POSIX:

http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/utilities/rm.html

If either of the files dot or dot-dot are specified as the basename
portion of an operand (that is, the final pathname component) or if an
operand resolves to the root directory, rm shall write a diagnostic
message to standard error and do nothing more with such operands.

But the paragraph is not considering -r and -f options.

[Bug 1297147] [NEW] rm -rf . does not delete content of the dir

2014-03-25 Thread Hans Ginzel
Public bug reported:

Command rm -rf .
writes:
rm: cannot remove directory: ‘.’

That is OK. But it does not delete the content of the dir ‘.’. Command rm -rf *
is not the alternative because
1) it does not include hidden files/directories,
2) number of files could exceed max command line length.

Alternative is: find . -delete, but I vote for repairing the rm command.

Commands to reproduce:
mkdir tmp_rm_test
cd tmp_rm_test
echo a.a
mkdir b
ls -A
rm -rf .
ls -A
find . -delete
ls -A
cd ..
rmdir tmp_rm_test

[Bug 1193360] Re: Can't type diacritics with AltGr+letter in Dash or HUD

2013-11-30 Thread Hans Ginzel
I realised a bug on 13.10 with the Czech (qwerty) keyboard. In Text Entry
Settings I have the English (US) and the Czech (qwerty) Input Sources.
Switch to next source using: Shift+Alt_L
Switch to prev. source using: Shift+Alt+Control_L
In the Keyboard/Shortcuts/Typing I choose Caps_Lock for Compose Key and
Right_Alt for Alternative Characters Key.

When the Czech keyboard is selected, then AltGr works well, e.g. on the '8' key
there is the 'a' with acute (á), with the Shift key there is the number '8' and
with the AltGr key I get the star (*). But when the English keyboard is
selected I get '8', star with Shift and ALSO the '8' with the AltGr key.
In previous Ubuntu releases I got accute 'a' (á) on the English keyboard on the
key '8' with the AltGr key when Press Right Alt key to choose 3rd level was
checked in options.

How to please achieve described behaviour in 13.10?

Re: [Bug 1223237] Re: nmcli dost not disable Wi-Fi, needs root privileges

2013-10-03 Thread Hans Ginzel
Hello!

You are right. I have executed nmcli from xrdp/vnc session.
Locally it works. But the bug is, that if executed remotely neither an
error/warning message is written nor is the error-code set nor prompt
for password is emitted. It is also interesting, that

sudo nmcli nm
wifi off

works from remote session, but

echo '#!/bin/sh' wifi_off

echo 'nmcli nm wifi off' wifi_off

sudo chown root.root wifi_off

sudo chmod +s wifi_off

./wifi_off

does not.

I am the
administrator, it is my notebook.

Best regards,

Hans

Dne
30.09.2013 17:54, Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre napsal:

 Hi,

 Did you
do this while physically connected to a console, or via SSH?

 Are
special configurations done by your system administrator (assuming

this is in a corporate environment) to limit access to specific

administrative tasks on your computer?

 The two possibilities that
come to mind would be if this is attempted
 via a SSH connection, in
which case this is expected behavior (SSH
 connections are not local,
and thus not considered the same way when
 checking for permissions) or
a custom configuration for policykit that
 restricts the
org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.enable-disable-wifi
 permission.

Regards,

 / Matt

2013-09-20 Thread Hans Ginzel
In my case it was because I had a small (480 MB) /boot partition and
there were lot of (~10) 3.8 kernels. I have uninstalled older ones by
hand and now the installation is OK. I have encrypted home and I don't
think that could be reason for insufficient space on /boot.

[Bug 1221142] [NEW] web package listing misses package descripton

2013-09-05 Thread Hans Ginzel
Public bug reported:

Hello!

The package listings on http://packages.ubuntu.com/ misses package
description. Compare http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/dwww with
http://packages.debian.org/stable/dwww.

There is also not way how to generally address a package from last
distribution, e.g.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lts/dwww
http://packages.ubuntu.com/stable/dwww
http://packages.ubuntu.com/latest/dwww

Thanks
HG

[Bug 1158491] [NEW] unity inappropriatly lowers firefox window

2013-03-21 Thread Hans Ginzel
Public bug reported:

Test case:
start computer
start terminal
maximize it
start firefox
maximize it
move mouse to the right most point in the middle of the screen (widow frame or
scrollbar edge)
press left mouse button
The Firefox window would be lowered. Terminal raises.

Expected behaviour: nothing happens or scroll bar gets focus.

Probably relates to bug #772612.
