[Bug 1005224] Re: Video frame buffering failed too many times

2012-12-08 Thread Herco van Brug
i have a seperate frontend that runs 0.27 atm. when i ran 0.25 on BE and
FE they both worked fine. i could watch live TV on both of them.
upgrading to 0.26 broke it. live tv still works fine on the BE but the
FE can't watch it anymore. after 2 seconds i get above messages. i
upgraded to 0.27 hoping the dev version would have it fixed. but lifeTV
still works on the BE, the frontend is still broken. i run ubuntu
12.04LTS on both of them.

spoke too soon. watching liveTV on the backend works fine until i switch
channels. it then waits exact the amount of seconds i entered in mythtv-
setup before failing with the error from this topic.

[Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-10-27 Thread Herco van Brug
I never had a problem with 11.04. but with 11.10 i get the occasional
freeze from nvidia. going to 'additional drivers' and removing the
nvidia driver completely solves the freeze.

I have yet to test it but the issue seems to be related to the power
saving mode. if you add

  Option  RegistryDwordsPowerMizerEnable=0x1;
PerfLevelSrc=0x; PowerMizerDefault=0x2; PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x2

to the xorg.conf, the system is stable, it will just never run at low or
high power, just stick somewhere in the middle.

lspci says i have a 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia
Corporation GF106 [Quadro 2000M] (rev a1)

i hope nvidia and the 3.0 kernel guys figure out what's going on soon as
currently i'm loosing production hours and i'm definitely not used to
that from linux.

[Bug 800463] Re: pushing rewind while paused when playing mkv file crashed the internal player

2011-09-17 Thread Herco van Brug
I tried that twice and had to reinstall myth completely! One time it
lost all my tv stations and after i added them it couldnt lock the
channels rendering it useless. I think i will stick with the stock
ubuntu backend and just use xbmc as frontend. Just a couple too many
problems with 024 atm

[Bug 825905] Re: dvd playback crashed the frontend

2011-08-14 Thread Herco van Brug
this is getting annoying. skipping around in a dvd movie crashes the
frontend quite consistently. is there a way to go back to a previous
version completely? never had this problem with 0.23. that only crashed
playing music. 0.24 is far less stable

[Bug 825905] [NEW] dvd playback crashed the frontend

2011-08-13 Thread Herco van Brug
Public bug reported:

i tried various dvd rips but frontend keeps crashing on a lot of them.
vlc, mplayer and xbmc play them all without any issues. sometimes it
crashes just after selecting the dvd, sometimes when i scroll around a
bit, sometimes after half an hour of playback

[Bug 817400] [NEW] python csv.reader completely hangs machine

2011-07-28 Thread Herco van Brug
Public bug reported:

when reading a 200mb csv file into the csv.reader 3 times in a row hangs 11.04
linux completely. mouse not moving, fan 100%, the works..
except from the default 11.04 python packages i installed numpy and wxtools. i
have a 8gb machine and sometimes the python process gets killed with an 'out of
memory' error, but sometimes it hangs the machine. this happens more often when
i have over half the memory in use before starting the csv import.

[Bug 796738] Re: trying to play dvd crashed frontend

2011-07-20 Thread Herco van Brug
i played an unencrypted DVD that had some read errors when i copied it to the
hard drive. it crashed the frontend again. i'm starting to get pretty annoyed
with the inability of the frontend to play dvds properly.
i played the dvd with xbmc just fine. if that had the same easy filelevel
management of video files i'd switch permanently.

ah ok, i do have the libcss and other dvd packages installed. i can run
other dvd files just fine. i'll check if this one is still encrypted.

but even if storage groups dont support encrypted dvds, it really
shouldn't crash on it. a message saying why it wont play the files would
be nice.

[Bug 793646] Re: after running a while lcdproc fills up the log with 20x/sec error messages

2011-06-06 Thread Herco van Brug
i ran 10.10 before natty with the lirc-modules-source which had a different
imon kernel driver. that used to have similar problems but the later releases
didnt and the system kept running for months without problems. with the update
to natty the error returned.
so i could well be the kernel driver or some setting i can pass the module when
it loads. (i just dont know which one)
would be nice if this would be fixed in the default kernel module or the
lcdproc package, whichever causes the problem.

Public bug reported:

absolute/relative paths to clipart directories and the like. but this is
an ancient bug that has returned. when i remove the storage groups, i
see the movie clipart but the series are all title only. can this be

everything now and that seems to work. no idea what that does to storage
group support though..

[Bug 760143] [NEW] clicking a link from gwibber launches firefox instead of the default browser

2011-04-13 Thread Herco van Brug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

i installed google-chrome and clicking links from any app starts chrome just
fine. but gwibber seems to ignore the x-www-browser alternative. it's set
correctly to google-chrome (as /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser is set
properly).
gwibber seems to use webbrowser.py which should look for the right alternative
but it looks like there's something going wrong there. perhaps this is a

2011-02-27 Thread Herco van Brug
after installing compizconfig-settings-manager i tried different
settings for ubuntu unity plugin. but autohide and both dodge settings
all have the same flickering launchbar. only workable option is to never
hide the launcher but then some windows are maximized under the bar and
part of those are unreadable.

[Bug 698286] Re: Mythtv-backend keeps crashing (mostly when recording)

2011-01-07 Thread Herco van Brug
fair enough. i was on the latest build the ubuntu 10.04 default repos offered
but that's not the latest version available.
so if anybody who runs ubuntu LTS has this issue he should add the ppa repos
and update to fix it.

2011-01-06 Thread Herco van Brug
the latest 0.23.1 was installed. upgrading to 0.24 fixed the problem. i
didn't install the dbg package first so i dont have a trace to upload.
still all 10.04 and 10.10 installs dont have 0.24 enabled and could
experience similar problems. messages before the segfault may indicate
that hdmi and nvidia may have something to do with it:

machine installs the PAE kernel too (as expected). so currently, all
virtual machines build on ubuntu 10 have an unnecessary big kernel
aboard!

this bug was reported a week ago. any possibility of a status update?
i'm sure plenty users are affected though they may not know as the
machine does still function after a reboot..

and mount the disk under a new mountpoint under /media with an
additional underscore. the above log is somewhere in the middle of a
large amount of disconnects/reconnects; it show the partition
(/dev/sdc1) as sdaf1.

i think is is a USB driver bug since i never had this problem with 9.10.
it's not just harddisks though. i also have usb remote controls that
when plugged in, crash the usb driver and even the whole system
sometimes (reproducible, no log messages, never happend in 9.10). i dont
know if i should report that as another bug as it's most likely due to
the usb driver.

[Bug 349767] Re: external USB hard drive disconnects

2010-05-30 Thread Herco van Brug
i should perhaps also mention that this happens on 3 different linux machines
that i tested on. one is fresh installed, 2 are upgraded from 9.10, all 3 have
usb issues now. all had no problems with usb devices before the upgrade to
10.04.
i would opt for an increase in priority of this issue as all 3 systems are less
than reliable at the moment and 2 of them 'need' to be running 24/7.

@Benjamin
i installed all 5 ppa2 packages from julian including the modules-source. i put
a backup of the lirc_imon.ko back into the driver tree and it loaded so i have
a working setup now. i'll test the proposed update tonight to see if both load
correctly.

2010-05-08 Thread Herco van Brug
ok, the patch works for me but has now my imon isn't working anymore. i
have both hauppauge and soundgraph in my mediacenter. previously the
imon loaded, but i2c didn't. now it's the other way around.

this will probably be fixed with the official kernel release but just in
case; i get this message:

[26168.248130] lirc_imon: disagrees about version of symbol lirc_register_driver
[26168.248138] lirc_imon: Unknown symbol lirc_register_driver
