[Bug 649294] Re: When speed limit is set, Speed reported in the status bar is mostly wrong
I'm not sure what principle of KISS would imply bogus speed reporting. I think a car is a good example here because the interface a person has with a car is generally considered quite intuitive and simple and not in a way that obscures important aspects of control. For example, even when I set cruise-control at "60km/h" the speedometer reads the speed independently. This is especially clear if one has previously set cruise-control, and then altered speed and resumes it. One can see the speedometer climb or fall to the set speed. Transmission merely reports that set speed immediately. Similarly, if a radical change in terrain slows or speeds the car, one sees that reported on the speedometer and also gauge cruise-control's attempt to correct it. Seems to me that is KISS. -- When speed limit is set, Speed reported in the status bar is mostly wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 649294] Re: When speed limit is set, Speed reported in the status bar is mostly wrong
Here is a screenshot of the System Monitor following exiting Transmission... Speeds have returned to nil (basically 2-3KBPS). This means the difference between what Transmission reports ~15KBPS and the actual speed ~65KBPS is about 40KBPS of "overhead." ** Attachment added: "Screenshot-System Monitor.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/649294/+attachment/1705953/+files/Screenshot-System%20Monitor.png -- When speed limit is set, Speed reported in the status bar is mostly wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 460733] Re: Transmission BitTorrent doesn't honor speed limitation preferences
Also, I'd like to add that part of the problem with the divergence in capped speed vs actual speed is that Transmission reports actual speed as capped speed. What I would prefer to see is that when speed is capped, Transmission still report the actual speed (spikes and all) - this would at least make it easier to gauge Transmission's success - but as it is, it simply states the capped # when all data to the contrary shows that is not the case. So that even if all torrent clients have a problem accurately capping they should not have a problem accurately reporting their attempt to cap... -- Transmission BitTorrent doesn't honor speed limitation preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460733 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 460733] Re: Transmission BitTorrent doesn't honor speed limitation preferences
Perhaps related to this issue is Bug #649294 referenced by Vish. I wanted to share my experience where having uncapped upload and download results in continually low readings for my upload speed (usually around 15KBPS on a 70KBPS line) whereas my System Monitor reports continuous ~60KBPS range upload (which is correlated by my slow browsing experience). I have monitored this over days and hours with more or less other activity and it all seems to point to Transmission as the culprit. I'm worried also that this will result in skewed upload stats. ** Attachment added: "Transmission-Speeds.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/460733/+attachment/1705055/+files/Transmission-Speeds.png -- Transmission BitTorrent doesn't honor speed limitation preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460733 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 555169] Re: Can't log in after regular update on Lucid
Thanks Russ - maybe I'm experiencing a different bug because I'm not sure its Xorg related. For example, I suffer this bug when conducting a normal safeboot that ends at the prompt (and doesn't load X). Although I can, as I've mentioned earlier, use the keyboard prior to that point - even to have full keyboard access with a safeboot to root user. I have added a basic mouse/keyboard config to xorg.conf pointing to the /dev/input/events that correspond to my USB/BT logitech setup and rebooted but with no results. [Bug 555169] Re: Can't log in after regular update on Lucid
Another update - I found that selecting safeboot option and typing during the boot (random keys) will secure me keyboard access when the safe mode options load. If I don't use the keyboard during boot it will be locked out to like in a regular boot. From the safe mode I can choose options like booting to root console in order to run updates (I am completely up-to-date as of April 5) and do other keyboard tasks from the console. However, returning to normal boot mode still results in a loss of keyboard support requiring hard-reboot. Here is also some ping data from between myself and the router noticing the pause in the middle. 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=160 ttl=64 time=4.56 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=161 ttl=64 time=18.4 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=162 ttl=64 time=7.68 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=163 ttl=64 time=14.3 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=164 ttl=64 time=302 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=165 ttl=64 time=125 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=208 ttl=64 time=5855 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=209 ttl=64 time=4847 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=210 ttl=64 time=3841 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=211 ttl=64 time=2833 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=212 ttl=64 time=1825 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=213 ttl=64 time=818 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=214 ttl=64 time=0.445 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=215 ttl=64 time=0.294 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=216 ttl=64 time=0.316 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=217 ttl=64 time=0.503 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=218 ttl=64 time=0.576 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=219 ttl=64 time=0.694 ms --- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics --- 219 packets transmitted, 130 received, 40% packet loss, time 218627ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.294/181.210/5855.511/802.607 ms, pipe 6 Here is the data from ifconfig: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1d:7d:00:04:59 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:250 Base address:0x4000 eth0:avahi Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1d:7d:00:04:59 inet addr:169.254.2.229 Bcast:169.254.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:250 Base address:0x4000 loLink encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:568123 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:568123 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:399491755 (399.4 MB) TX bytes:399491755 (399.4 MB) wlan1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:22:b0:cc:b2:46 inet addr:192.168.0.199 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::222:b0ff:fecc:b246/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:65878 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:66178 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:64713966 (64.7 MB) TX bytes:30849735 (30.8 MB) wmaster0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-22-B0-CC-B2-46-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Internet / Network delays or pauses continuously https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337488 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 313218] Re: IPV6 causes slow internet access
I am also having what I am guessing is this problem. It happened around the time of Jaunty Alpha 5's release as my Internet was unaffected earlier. The disconnect is between my computer and my router, which can be verified by transfers on the LAN and WAN being interrupted. Firefox and all other apps are affected. The router is fairly new (DLink DIR 655 Wireless N Series) so I'm unsure why it would not be able to switch between IPV6 and IPV4 as the other commenter noted regarding his Belkin router. If there is any date (ifconfig, etc.) I can add let me know. -- IPV6 causes slow internet access https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313218 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 335904] [NEW] can't install ubuntu-desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop Message from pop-up window after attempting to run a recommended partial upgrade from around Jaunty Alpha 4 to Jaunty Alpha 5 "It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug." The package in question is ubuntu-desktop. Normally I'd just wait to see if any dependencies it required had yet to be released into the repositories but it insisted it be reported so here is the report. ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- can't install ubuntu-desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/335904 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
