[Bug 1774302] Re: package gridengine-master 8.1.9+dfsg-7build1 failed to install/upgrade: installed gridengine-master package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 139

2019-02-08 Thread Jody Simpson
I was able to cobble together a fix for this, hopefully someone could
use this information to create a more refined solution.

The underlying issue is that /usr/lib/gridengine/spooldefaults.bin will
segfault when creating the initial databases. gridengine-
client_8.1.9+dfsg-9 from debian sid has the appropriate fixes for this.
I copied over spooldefaults.bin, libspoolb.so and libspoolc.so from
/usr/lib/gridengine in that package.

After this, gridengine-master will try to start and report:
error opening shared lib "/usr/lib/gridengine/libspoolb.so":
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libjemalloc.so.2: cannot allocate memory in static
TLS block

This can be resolved by compiling jemalloc with --disable-initial-exec-
tls

[Bug 1319105] [NEW] Cisco AM10 no longer switches mode

Public bug reported:

This worked under Saucy but broke when I upgraded to Trusty. I've
attached usb_modeswitch.log obtained from turning debugging on.

syslog.7.gz:May 7 10:08:36 nyantiger usb_modeswitch: switched to 13b1:0031 on

[Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-02-09 Thread Jody McIntyre
I was able to build and install the driver Xprogrammer found, but it
does not work for me at all. It can get an address via DHCP but after
that I can't even ping the default gateway.

There were several warnings produced during the build, lots of dmesg
output, and a stack dump triggered in net/mac80211/rate.c:518 (a comment
in rate.c indicates RC is busted.

I can send along all of that if it's useful to anyone, but unless you
have access to hardware documentation I doubt you'll be able to fix the
driver. Based on the volume of the dmesg output, it appears to be an
internal or alpha driver that escaped rather than something that's
intended for production. I will contact the driver authors to see if
they have a newer version (the version Xprogrammer found dates from
October 22).

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

One thing I just noticed is that, at least in the Virtual Box case, it
might be related to the amount of memory assigned to the virtual
machine. I had 1GB of memory previously where the problem occurred. I
just increased it to 1.5GB (for other reasons) and suddenly the theming
works and I also get Unity desktop as well.

[Bug 549184] Re: brasero dialog please eject the CD yourself has a Cancel button instead of OK.

2010-12-27 Thread Jody McIntyre
I'm getting the same dialog as Joonas. I don't understand why this
dialog appears in the first place. It says The disc could not be
ejected though it needs to be removed for the current operation to
continue. - this is untrue. There is no reason why the disc even needs
to be ejected. I was about to reboot and boot off it, so it's fine
where it is. Why does brasero care?

A better dialog would perhaps be along the lines of The disc could not
be ejected automatically. Please eject it if needed. --- OK or simply
The disc could not be ejected automatically. --- OK

Or even how about NOT using a dialog, and just putting a message in the
main window: Image successfully burned to CD. The disc could not be
ejected automatically.

[Bug 694787] [NEW] Select windows when the mouse moves over them ignored

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Select windows when the mouse moves over them in Window Preferences

[Bug 578098] Re: desktop icon highlight isn't always removed

2010-12-11 Thread Jody McIntyre
I'm pretty sure I'm seeing this bug as well, but in a different way. I
run UNR 10.04.1 LTS, which runs most applications full screen all the
time. Steps to reproduce:

1. Highlight an icon in netbook-launcher by mousing over it.
2. Switch away from netbook-launcher, either by launching an application or
using ALT-TAB.
3. Move the mouse away from the icon's screen position.
4. Switch back, using CTRL-ALT-TAB or the button in the top left corner.
5. The icon that was highlighted remains highlighted, even though the mouse is
no longer over it. If the mouse is moved over a second icon, BOTH are
highlighted. The only way to unhighlight the first icon is to move the mouse
over it then away. (For amusement, the steps can be repeated to highlight ALL
icons :) )

I have this same issue on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx X64 edition when

situation is the drives containing the files to copy and store the
information are NTFS instead of EXT4.

[Bug 599949] [NEW] Incorrect Screen Resolution

2010-06-29 Thread Jody Richardson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx X64 edition with a Radeon HD
4670 1GB AGP card and a pair of 21 in IBM P275 CRT screens. Currently
Ubuntu limits me to 1600x1200 @ 60hz. If I were to use a different OS I
could bring it up the max of 2048x1536 @ 75hz with no problem. I am
curious as to whether there will be an update to correct this problem or
not. A bit off topic, but in addition if there is a way to make more
WinBlowz games and programs work under Linux I could see more people
leaving the Blue Screen Of Death for Tux by the millions. Also, if
Ubuntu can support more platforms like its parent Debian does I would
implement onto the cluster I am building. I will take a picture of it
and send it to you showing you what Ubuntu is powering if you would
like. Please keep up the good work and I look to stay a Linux user for
a LONG time. I have been using Ubuntu strictly since 7.10 if that means
anything and generally very well impressed. Thank you again for all of
your hard work.

[Bug 368201] Re: gnome (or firefox) 99%hangs system

2010-03-14 Thread Jody Palmer
I've seen a very similar (most likely the same root cause) problem. I
think the key is the high load, low CPU, and extreme unresponsiveness.
My guess is that the system is waiting for disk resources, and queueing
up on the CPU. Any suggestions on what information to gather to test
that hypothesis would be appreciated.

I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu 8.10, 2.6.27-17-generic, reiserfs with
software raid 1. My box exports file system mounts through both NFS and
Samba.

The next time it happens, I'll try (if I can get it to respond) to
gather more info.

Prior to making change to fstab the line look as such.

On Jaunty i had no issue as the user has access to the mount points
mentioned above and since wiping and re-loading the system in order to
get these to mount i had to add an additional \ in from of the network
hostname name see below.

With this now in place my network shares are now accessible.

Can you please help as that is the only work around found.

Sounds like all of the plugins have been disabled bhy the upgrade. You
can re-enable them manually from the menus.

However, I'd be interested in a repeatable sample of how to get into a
state that disables them. Please upstream this with a copy of the
.gnumericrc

[Bug 99659] Re: no sound from my Dell Dimension 9100

2008-05-07 Thread Jody McIntyre
Not sure if my problem is related to Daniel's but it's the same
hardware. I tried the troubleshooting. Playback via OSS and
Applications - Sound Video - Volume Control is the only thing that
works. Recording, alsamixer, and ALSA playbacx does not work. Details:

For playback in System - Preferences - Sound , Autodetect and
OSS work (a sample tone is played.) ALSA and STAC92xx Analog
show:

audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback.

Sound capture does not work at all (except on the test / silence
devices.) STAC92xx Analog and ALSA show:

gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink
profile=chat: Could not open audio device for recording.

OSS hangs for a bit then shows:

Failed to construct test pipeline for 'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert !
audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat'

PulseAudio shows:

gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink
profile=chat: Failed to connect: Connection refused

I followed the debugging instructions at the URL you mentioned. During
that I discovered:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or
directory

I will attach the requested debugging information.

Hi James,

Yep, it's definitely possible. I'm at work right now so I can't tell you for
sure, but I will definitely check on it when I get home tonight and let you
know.

Thanks!

Jody

 Hi,

bug 220645 is very similar to this. Is there any chance
that you have Debian's sysv-rc package installed?

 Thanks,

Hi again James,

I just checked, and I do have the sysv-rc package installed. If my bug's a
duplicate, sorry about that!

[Bug 112952] cinepaint won't build from source

2007-05-06 Thread Jody McIntyre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cinepaint

Problems encountered:

1. libgutenprintui1-dev, a build-dep, does not exist. It seems to work
without that - I have libgutenprintui2-dev so maybe that's why.

2. Compile error in png.c:

cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../lib -I/usr/include/glib-1.2
-I/usr/lib/glib/include -I/usr/include/gtk-1.2 -I/usr/include/glib-1.2
-I/usr/lib/glib/include -I/usr/include -I/usr/include/gtk-1.2
-I/usr/include/glib-1.2 -I/usr/lib/glib/include -I/usr/include/glib-1.2
-I/usr/lib/glib/include -I../.. -I/usr/include -I/usr/include/glib-1.2
-I/usr/lib/glib/include -g -Wall -O2 -c png.c
png.c:60:48: error: png.h: No such file or directory

Installing libpng12-dev, not a build-dep, fixed the problem.

Yeah, looks like it's been fixed. This is 6.10 - haven't gotten around to
upgrading yet.

Cheers,

[Bug 60157] breezy hal missing a patch needed to work with 2.6.18 kernel

2006-09-12 Thread Jody Belka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

The version of hal in breezy (0.5.3) is missing a patch that is needed
for hald to run on a 2.6.18 kernel. It fixes a bug in how hald deals
with the sysfs tree. Without it, a change in 2.6.18 results in hald
failing to start up successfully. The patch has been in hal for a long
time now (since November 2005), and i've verified that adding it to
0.5.3-0ubuntu14 gets things working again.

I've attached a copy of the patch with the path info at the top altered
to work in the dpkg-buildpackage process.
