[Bug 1186569] Re: Imon LCD device number changes each boot
So this used to (At least as recently as 12.04) stably sit on /dev/lcd0, and now, as this bug indicates, it seems to pick randomly between /dev/lcd0 and /dev/lcd2. Is the kernel responsible for that? lcdproc is a pretty simple, and rather unmaintained program. [Bug 963125] Re: Alt-Tab window switcher lost
Adding packages gnome-settings-daemon and gsettings-desktop-schemas, as a fix could be done in either. The issue appears to be that dconf stores the keybindings in arrays of strings, and when set there, gnome-settings-daemon will transition those settings to gconf as defined by /usr/share/GConf/gsettings/wm- schemas.convert. metacity expects those keybindings to just be strings, not lists of strings, so after the conversion, metacity can't read the keybindings. Possible solutions would be 1. Allow conversion to a string, which is probably a challenging task, especially if the array in dconf contains multiple values. the .convert files would have to indicate that a type change is required, which would be a syntax change from existing files, and probably not worth the effort. 2. Just remove these keybindings from the .convert files. I suspect they aren't really necessary. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: gsettings-desktop-schemas (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/963125 Title: Alt-Tab window switcher lost To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/963125/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1071950] Re: gnome-settings-daemon dconf to gconf plugin causes settings to be lost
I'm pretty new to dconf, so I'm making some assumptions which may be incorrect. When dconf update is run as root, that only updates settings which are either mandatory or defaults system-wide. Neither of those changes should result in a change in the users home directory, and if a user wasn't logged in, nothing would happen currently. Because of that, I'm not sure that dconf update should be sending any signals which would trigger a gconf sync. At most, it should just re-read the system settings in order to accept the new default or mandatory settings. Even if that doesn't happen, on next login, they will be re-read, right? Unrelated, I'm surprised to find dconf defaults that don't match up with gconf defaults. Like the metacity button_layout dconf default puts the buttons back on the right. This was the primary reason I noticed this was all happening in the first place. when dconf update ran, it updated the gconf setting for the button layout and moved the buttons back the the right. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071950 Title: gnome-settings-daemon dconf to gconf plugin causes settings to be lost To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1071950/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1071950] Re: gnome-settings-daemon dconf to gconf plugin causes settings to be lost
This also exposes something else, which might be better as a separate bug. wm-schemas.convert tries to convert metacity keybindings from dconf to gconf. Unfortunately the types are different, so anything accepted by dconf probably won't actually work once it's written to gconf. This was exposed because a dconf update wound up writing all these keybindings into gconf. For example, dconf has org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-windows as ['AltTab'] which is an array of strings. However, metacity expects this to be just the string 'AltTab'. When the gconf conversion happens, it seems to actually convert the key to a list of strings in gconf, and metacity stops supporting Alt-Tab.

[Bug 1038371] [NEW] disabling in-kernel support should be optional
Public bug reported: I have an Antec case with an iMon knob device, as well as a serial port IR receiver. The knob produces events, so I don't need lirc for it. I also use the imon device for lcdproc. I run lirc, solely to communicate with the serial IR device. The current lirc init script attempts to modify the imon device in /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols. This is unnecessary, as I don't intend to use that device with lirc, and furthermore, for reasons unknown, it occasionally causes the computer to fail to shut down. I don't particularly care why echoing none to /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols hangs occasionally, because it isn't an operation that needs to be done at all on my system. I can edit the init script to prevent this happening, but I'd much prefer for there to be an option in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf to prevent in-kernel support from being disabled while i run lirc, and re-enabled when I stop it. [Bug 732252] [NEW] usbvideo causes failure to suspend on Thinkpad T410s
Public bug reported: On a Thinkpad T410s, as well as a T410 and X201, the uvcvideo module in the Lucid kernel frequently causes a failure to suspend. Ah. Sorry for the confusion. It's had enough testing to satisfy me. In addition, testing has shows that this fixes the btusb suspend problem entirely, without requiring adding it to SUSPEND_MODULES. [Bug 698331] Re: thinkpad T410: Bluetooth not getting disabled on suspend
Thank you Martin. I've verified that your package does properly reduce the btusb usage count to 0, and it does allow for btusb to be unloaded using SUSPEND_MODULES. The actual suspend problem is intermittent, so time will tell if this resolves the suspend issue, with or without actually unloading the btusb module. Some background on the suspend issues we've encountered with the new thinkpads (X201, T410(s)): At some point in the Lucid lifecycle, suspend became unreliable, with the behavior that suspend wouldn't complete, leaving you back at the unlock screen. The error in pm-suspend.log was /usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-functions: line 317: echo: write error: Device or resource busy. In kern.log, there were a couple errors that showed up. The most common one was PM: Device 1-1.6 failed to suspend: error -110. Device 1-1.6 was the built in webcam. By adding uvcvideo to SUSPEND_MODULES, we resolved the majority of the suspend problems. However, the other error that showed up on occasion was: PM: Device usb1 failed to suspend: error -16 Device usb1 was the device that contained both the webcam and the bluetooth device. Since we were already removing the webcam, the bluetooth device seemed likely to be responsible. By manually disabling bluetooth before suspending, users have been able to reliably suspend, however, this isn't a good solution, as you must remember to do it. Due to this bug, adding btusb to SUSPEND_MODULES didn't work. Now that we have a solution to this bug, I'll have the users that can reproduce this most often try the patch here by itself. If it doesn't resolve the problem on its own, I'll have them add btusb to SUSPEND_MODULES as well. I suspect that will resolve the problem completely. It's still puzzling that uvcvideo and possibly btusb are having problems suspending, but at least we have work-arounds available. I haven't tried to reproduce the suspend problems in natty, but I was able to reproduce the module unloading problem reported in this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/698331 Title: thinkpad T410: Bluetooth not getting disabled on suspend -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 703106] [NEW] xdg-update-menu overwrites the /usr/share/applications/defaults.list symlink with a file.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xdg-utils The desktop-file-utils package creates /usr/share/applications/defaults.list as a symlink to /etc/gnome/defaults.list. Unfortunately, the xdg-update-menu program, when called to install a .desktop file with new mime types, overwrites this symlink with a file. It does this by reading the defaults.list, writing to a temporary file, making edits, then copying it back. it doesn't notice if the defaults.list file is a symlink, and overwrites it with a file. A common example of this is installing google chrome. it calls xdg- desktop-menu to install its desktop file, and the result is that /etc/gnome/defaults.list is no longer used. I suggest that xdg-desktop-menu should canonicalize defaults.list before writing to it. I've attached a simple patch as an example. [Bug 698007] [NEW] lirc init script can create circular symlinks
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lirc This is related to bug 697999 and specifically my need to work around that bug. If, in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf, you set REMOTE_SOCKET to /dev/lircd1 and transmitter_socket to /dev/lircd, then the lirc init script will create a circular symlink loop between /dev/lircd and /dev/lircd1. The script tests if OLD_SOCKET != REMOTE_SOCKET, but it should also make sure that OLD_SOCKET != TRANSMITTER_SOCKET Additionally, before removing ${OLD_SOCKET}1 the script should do the same checks, which it currently does none. A patch for this solution is attached. My preference would actually to be to use the new socket locations in /var/run/lircd, however, then the the order I create those sockets is irrelevant, as the magical symlinking always symlinks /dev/lircd to the remote and /dev/lircd1 to the transmitter, which is backwards from how I need it to be. I'm not actually sure what the best fix is here. Perhaps it could just test if the socket is /var/run/lirc/lircd\d+ and if it is, then just symlink to /dev/$(basename $REMOTE_SOCKET) If this is an acceptable solution, I can probably write up a patch for this behavior if necessary. However, there may be other cases the current behavior is designed to correct for. If bug 697999 gets fixed, then this problem will no longer affect me. ** Affects: lirc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/698007 Title: lirc init script can create circular symlinks -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I patched 49bluetooth to look like this: rfkill list lsmod | grep ^btusb echo Disabling Bluetooth echo disable /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth rfkill list lsmod | grep ^btusb After suspending with this code in place, I get the following output in pm-suspend.log: Running hook /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/49bluetooth suspend suspend: 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 6: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no btusb 18600 2 Disabling Bluetooth 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no 6: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no btusb 18600 2 Note that, while tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: Bluetooth is soft blocked, hci0 still exists and is not blocked. In addition, btusb still has a usage count of 2. For some reason, using /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth to disable bluetooth during suspend isn't working, and the module is still in use. I would like to try unloading btusb during suspend, using SUSPEND_MODULES, as I believe it may be causing suspend problems, but due to this inability to disable bluetooth during suspend, the module remains in use, and cannot be unloaded. ** Affects: pm-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: glucid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/698331 Title: thinkpad T410: Bluetooth not getting disabled on suspend -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 620693] [NEW] Screen not locked when turned off
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager All settings I refer to here are gconf settings relative to /apps/gnome- power-manager unless fully qualified. If the value for timeout/sleep_display_ac (in seconds) is less than that of /desktop/gnome/session/idle_delay (in minutes) then the screen is blanked before the screensaver is activated. gnome-power-manager offers gconf options, described in its manual, for causing the screen to be locked when the screen is blanked. This can in theory be set by enabling lock/blank_screen or enabling lock/use_screensaver_settings if /apps/gnome-screensaver/lock_enabled is set. The problem is that neither of these settings appear to work. As a result, if the screen is blanked before the screensaver starts, or if the screensaver is disabled entirely, the screen does not get locked when blanked. These settings do not appear to behave as described in the manual. The manual also describes that power management timers begin only after session idle, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. power management timers now appear to start immediately, independent of session idle_delay. This documentation should be updated. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: glucid -- Screen not locked when turned off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/620693 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
