[Bug 756760] Re: Simple Scan crashes on save

2011-04-10 Thread Johannes Langlotz
After some further research I found out that it has nothing to do if you
scan one or multiple pages at once. The problem is that when I use the
scanner's automatic document feeder the displayed size of the scanned
document is quite strange. When I crop the scan to A4 size thereafter it
has to be cut on one side (short edge) and to be extended on the other
(long edge).

[Bug 555131] [NEW] Kernel 2.6.32-19 ignores lid status

2010-04-04 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

Kernel 2.6.32-19 ignores the lid status which is bad if you use your
notebook with a docking station and an external display. Kernel
2.6.32-18 or older and the mainline kernels handle a closed laptop lid
like a disconnected LVDS display. Since kernel 2.6.32-19 lucid boots up
with a wrong diplay resolution because both displays a switched on even
if the lid is closed. The displays are mirrored and switched to 1152x864
instead of their native resolutions. This leads to a blurry and warped
GDM.

[Bug 404919] Re: [i965GM] GDM is starting up with wrong display resolution

2009-08-08 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Yes, I think the upstream bug report addresses my issue.
When Windows XP shows the login screen on both displays it uses (the smaller)
notebook resolution. This resolution is also shown on the external display, but
not stretched (like ubuntu does it) but centered.

The best solution would be if I could switch between the displays (and
perhaps mirror mode) with Fn+F8 (or whatever it is on other notebooks)
when GDM is displayed. Just the way it is when logged in. When GDM is
mirrored on both displays it should use the Windows approach (centering
instead of stretching).

[Bug 404911] [NEW] Switching between notebook and external display doesn't work

2009-07-26 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have a DELL Latitude D630 notebook with a d/port docking station and a DELL
2007wfp display which is connected to the docking station with a DVI plug. The
notebook has a resolution of 1440x900. The external 2007wfp Display has a
resolution of 1680x1050.
When I start the notebook (docked to docking station), GNOME will start with
the correct resolution of the external display. But it is not possible to
switch to the notebook display (e.g. when I undock the notebook).
When I start the notebook undocked, GNOME will start with the correct
resolution of the internal display. But it is not possible to switch to the
external display when I dock the notebook to the docking station.

This does work with Hardy and also did with Jaunty. But it doesn't work
with Karmic.

[Bug 404919] [NEW] GDM is starting up with wrong display resolution

2009-07-26 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Public bug reported:

I have a DELL Latitude D630 notebook with a d/port docking station and a

DVI plug. The notebook has a resolution of 1440x900. The external
2007wfp Display has a resolution of 1680x1050.

When I start the notebook not docked to the docking station everything
is fine. GDM will show up with the native resolution of the notebook
display.

But when the notebook is docked to the docking station, GDM will show up
with a resolution both displays are capable to visualize. In my case
this is 1024x768. Since this is a 4:3 mode and the displays are 16:10
ones, GDM will show-up blurry and stretched on both displays.

GDM should only be displayed on one display at a time:
1.) show GDM on external display only when notebook is docked and lid is closed
2.) show GDM on internal notebook display when notebook is undocked or when it
is docked and lid is opened

[Bug 347023] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude D630] suspend/resume failure

2009-04-03 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Hello Leann,
yes suspend/resume works if the notebook is NOT docked. Just the spin-up of the
hard disk sounds not well on resume after suspend to RAM. I just did some more
tests and it seems that suspend to disk/resume is working when docked. So
forget my last post.

= Just suspend to RAM/resume does NOT work when DOCKED.

[Bug 347023] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude D630] suspend/resume failure

2009-03-28 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Just to clarify things up: I am talking about suspend to RAM.
- I think it does happen during resume (it suspends fine and shuts down
everything). On resume the display keeps blank
- It is reproducible. But it only fails if the notebook is docked into the
docking station
- Suspend to RAM never worked before with docking station (suspend to disk even
works with docking station)

[Bug 329469] [NEW] [jaunty] gnome-display-properties doesn't remeber settings

2009-02-14 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I have a DELL Latitude D630 notebook with a d/port docking station and a DELL
2007wfp display which is connected to the docking station with a DVI plug. The
notebook has a resolution of 1440x900. The external 2007wfp Display has a
resolution of 1680x1050.
On Hardy the notebook display is switched off and the external display works
with its native resolution after login (desired behaviour).
On Jaunty both displays display the same with a resolution of 1152x864 after
login. When I then open gnome-display-properties mirrow screens is checked.
When I uncheck mirrow screens and set the external display to its native
resolution and switch off the internal notebook display, everything is fine
again. But these settings are not saved. On the next login the screens are
mirrowed again.

[Bug 323971] Re: [jaunty] Intel graphics driver doesn't detect all possible display resolutions

2009-02-14 Thread Johannes Langlotz
It seems that I was wrong. I found a document on the dell support site
where all preset display modes of my external display are listed [1].
But I know that the externel monitor is also able to display other
resolutions e.g. 1440x900 (Intrepid offers this resolution). The real
problem for me is that I have the 1152x864 resolution when GDM appears
(the screen is mirrowed on both displays). This is neither the native
resolution of notebook display nor the native resolution of the external
display == I have a blurry login dialogue on both displays. But since
the external monitor is able to display the notebook's resolution, it
would be nice to have this one.

[Bug 323980] Re: Totem's slider doesn't move smoothly

2009-02-11 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Open a file with totem. Move the slider slowly while playing from the
left to the right. While moving the slider you will see that the slider
stops repeatedly for some ms. During these interruptions totem changes
the position of the stream.

In Rythmbox there are no such interruptions. Rhythmbox will not change
the position of the stream before you stop moving the slider.

This is not really a bug. It is rather not a nice behaviour.

[Bug 323963] Re: [jaunty] totem-mozilla doesn't play OGG and MP3 files within the web browser

2009-02-02 Thread Johannes Langlotz
And to answer your question: No, I don't have a website example. But I
think that either the package builder or the upstream devs should be
informed about this because I think this isn't the desired behaviour.

[Bug 323963] Re: [jaunty] totem-mozilla doesn't play OGG and MP3 files within the web browser

2009-02-02 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Hi,
yes it is reproducible. At least on my computer. To recreate this bug just drag
and drop an MP3 or OGG file into your (firefox) browser window. On hardy these
files will start to play within the browser with the totem plugin. On Jaunty
these files will be offered to download because firefox doesn't know what to do
with them since there MIME types aren't registered (see about:plugins).

[Bug 323963] Re: [jaunty] totem-mozilla doesn't play OGG and MP3 files within the web browser

2009-02-02 Thread Johannes Langlotz
This is clear, but it worked that way in former releases and doesn't
anymore. Furthermore it still works inside Firefox with the much more
uncommon WMA format. Does this make sense? So I think it is definitely a
bug.

[Bug 323971] [NEW] [jaunty] Intel graphics driver doesn't detect all possible display resolutions

2009-02-01 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have a DELL Latitude D630 notebook with a d/port docking station and a
DELL 2007wfp display which is connected to the docking station with a
DVI plug. The notebook has a resolution of 1440x900. The external
2007wfp Display has a resolution of 1680x1050. When I start the notebook
only the resolution of the notebook panel is detected correctly. But if
the notebook is docked into the docking station GDM and GNOME are
starting with 1152x864 instead of 1440x900 (which is the highest
resolutions both displays support). xrandr -q lists different possible
resolutions in Hardy, Intrepid and Jaunty. Intrepid has the best choice
of possible resolutions even if they are not 100% right.

I don't know why every ubuntu release lists different possible

resolution manually.

This does not work for me. After entering sudo rmmod snd-hda-intel I

It still does not work with 2.6.24-23!

[Bug 190506] Re: [Hardy] GNOME and GDM are starting up with wrong display resolution

2008-04-20 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Yes I added some lines manually. Have a look at the attachment to see
what the xorg.conf file looks like now. GDM still starts with wrong
resolution (I think it is 1280x1024). I don't know how the display is
handled on startup. xrandr detects the right resolutions but it doesn't
take the highest/native one.

worked as expected but only affects GNOME and not GDM of course.

[Bug 194552] Re: [Hardy] GDM starts with wrong display resolution

2008-04-02 Thread Johannes Langlotz
Both started with the wrong resolution. I changed the resolution with
gnome-display-properties. The GNOME resolution is correct now. But like
you said GDM still starts still with wrong detected resolution.

It is a DELL 2007wfp display and I don't know why xrandr does not use
the display's native resolution.

2008-03-19 Thread Johannes Langlotz
This also does not happen every time. I currently work with the external
display with correct settings. I think it mainly happens when I disable
the notebook display AND enable the external display with its native
resolution on the same time.

Many of these strange behaviours are not reproducible. Today I just
wanted to disable the notebook display and enable the external one with
its native resolution. Look at the screenshot to see what I got after I
pressed the apply button.
