[Bug 1626199] [NEW] Wifi Settings permanantly corrupted after failed WPA2 connection attempt

2016-09-21 Thread John M.
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Choose a WPA2 (PEAP MSCHAPv2) enterprise connection to connect to
2. Browse and add a certificate from the certificates field
3. Click Ok to connect
4. Network manager tries for a long time and fails to connect
5. Now go back and touch the same network from Network/WiFi section in pulldown
shade
6. Observe Wifi Settings screen open, keyboard popup shortly and Wifi settings
crash

Most annoyingly, once you get into this state there is no way to access
this network anymore. The only way is to re-flash the device.

[Bug 1574347] Re: [SRU] Re-read the link type if the name changed

2016-08-09 Thread John M
Same here Lenovo T530 Intel 6205 wifi adapter.
The work around (sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service) works for me
most of the time. Sometimes my machine needs a reboot then a router reboot to
reconnect. It's an old router but didn't present any issues before Ubuntu 16LTS
install. Hopefully coincidental. Good luck!

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

 Bug description:
no matter what o.s. or computer i use i am apparently forced by
persons/agency unknown to be a workstation on a domain..and am totally
limited on what permissions i have...and am denied permission to change
numerous features and programs...this happens with windows or any o.s.
this should be and is a stand alone computer and is not supposed to be a
part of any domain or networkyet it is...and i am unable to be
administrator/owner of my own computer with unknown parties controlling on a
real time basis ..they react instantaneously to any changes i make and
reverse what i have done.they operate remotely and with blue tooth and
far more and do many things to frustrate me ..this has been going on for some
time.they exploit all and any vulnerabilities available...it seems to me
that whenever i install an o.s oruse a boot disk that they interfere with the
MBR, kernel and bios..before the actual disk m can operate...it also seems to
me that all O.S. 's assume that if you are part of a domain..or network..that
you are supposed to be part of the network..and the o.s. is installed
accordingly.so I am not writing about one or even many bugs but am
seeking help with what I have explained...my email is
 paradigmshift...@outlook.com and I am
deadly earnest in what I am saying...I could explain for hours some of the
things they are doing..and I hope to hear from you and thank you in
advance...there should be some documents and logs or?? along with this
explanationmy email is paradigmshift...@outlook.com and I am John Mortimore
i am unsure what is running now

[Bug 1446865]

2015-05-01 Thread John M
if I get whining here, I'm not motivated working on it.

Huh. I hope you don't take it personally. I got the same response an
another bug I reported. This newer generation of opensource coders seems
to be very touchy... KDE is awesome thanks for working on it.

Now I also go to answer why I don't care about session management:
because I do not restart the session, I restart the session whenever the
system freezes, so session management is nothing which suits my
workflow, nothing I could work on and get it right, because I don't even
know how it's supposed to work.

You never logout??? You understand what the bug is right? We login, and
windows are not where we left them, all over the place, or missing.

As a workaround: For Ubuntu 11.10, I used the stracciatella PPA (
https://launchpad.net/~janvitus/+archive/gnomestracciatella ). It has
already been updated for precise, and includes the evolution packages.

[Bug 844957] Re: Safely removing external (usb) hdd's can cause a kernel panic or system freeze

2011-11-03 Thread John M
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 868628 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868628

@Christopher Jazzcat:

You need to enable the -proposed repository and upgrade the linux-
generic, linux-image-generic, linux-header-generic, linux-libc-dev,
linux-source packages (if any of those is not installed on your machine,
ignore it).

To enable the -proposed repository, using USC, follow the instructions
on this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed . After
upgrading the kernel, depending on the method used, you can disable the
-proposed repository.

[Bug 848142] Re: Restarting gnome-shell renders guake unusable

2011-11-03 Thread John M
@Daniel Fett: guake's behavior, in relation to gnome-shell, is not
because of a crash, but because of a restart of the shell (i.e.,
something like Alt+F2 followed by gnome-shell --replace) ---in
unity's case, it would be analogous to Alt+F2 followed by compiz
--replace or something like that. If your case is different, maybe it's
a different bug as well.

[Bug 848142] Re: Restarting gnome-shell renders guake unusable

2011-11-02 Thread John M
@Daniel Fett: At first sight, your comment doesn't seem to make sense.
Restarting gnome-shell in unity renders guake unusable?

Because of bug #853582, I installed the proposed gconf (3.2.2-0ubuntu1
), which seems to have solved guake's problem ---although, funnily, it
still doesn't solve bug #853582.

With gconf's update, guake's behavior is consistent through multiple
gnome-shell restarts, and even the nautilus action I just added (i.e.,
guake -tn %f ), works without problem.

[Bug 857348] Re: All python plugins are broken by a bad import

I just got the amd64 packages from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libpeas/1.1.3-0ubuntu1/+build/2765954
and the gedit plugins seem to be working again (including the one for
latex, from git).

@Alex Schiff: The gedit-latex-plugin from git needs gedit-dev, which in
turn requires a libpeas-dev package with a matching version.

Since the error is similar to the one described in Bug #839712, the
plugins might be broken as a result of the last upgrade to the python-
gobject package.

The latest git version of gedit-plugins is 3.1.5, whereas the one in the
Ubuntu repositories is 3.1.4. So updating the package in the
repositories could solve the issue.

[Bug 844238] Re: Nautilus cut/copy/paste requires selecting cut/copy twice

After experiencing the same bug in Nautilus 2.30, I noticed that it is
actually triggered by the version of parcellite currently in oneiric
repositories. There's a similar bug ( Bug #848771 ) which suggest that
upgrading the package to the rc5 might solve the issue.

[Bug 848142] [NEW] Restarting gnome-shell renders guake unusable

2011-09-12 Thread John M
Public bug reported:

gnome-shell's extensions system, as well as some of the advanced tweaks,
sometimes require restarting the shell (through Alt+F2 r) in order to
take effect. If guake was already open when gnome-shell is restarted
(whether hidden or not), then guake becomes somehow unusable.

Whatever processes were active in guake's tabs continue without problem,
but keyboard shortcuts like moving between tabs are not possible. Also,
it's not possible to open new tabs either. Finally, selecting Quit
from guake's tray icon doesn't have any effect and the only way to end
it is by killing it ---which is not so straightforward, since the name
of the process is simply python.

[Bug 561388] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_unref()

2011-08-31 Thread John M
Sorry, I wasn't subscribed to this bug (it seems that launchpad doesn't
like me).

The nautilus -actions package from oneiric doesn't work with Nautilus
3.x. I cannot even start the config tool. For other extensions not yet
updated to work with Nautilus 3.x (e.g., nautilus-gksu and nautilus-
filename-repairer), a simple symlink from
/usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2/0 to /usr/extensions-3.0 suffices, but
that doesn't seem to work with nautilus-actions.

[Bug 792709] [NEW] Gnome panel drawer applet 'shivers' with 100% CPU (and crash?) when oversized

2011-06-04 Thread John M
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Increasing the width (size) of the gnome-panel 'Drawer' applet when
the applet is on the far edge of the screen past the available width
until the screen edge (see screenshot, somewhat hard to describe.) when
the drop-down menu (the whole point of the drawer app) is open causes
the drop-down to go absolutely crazy and shake back and forth with 100%
CPU usage, making the system totally non-responsive.

In my case, the gnome-panel was 54px tall (I believe the drawer applet
attempts to make itself square so this means the drawer applet was 54px
wide as well) and the bug occurred when the 'size'(width) of the drop-
down was increased to = 44px through the properties menu of the drawer
applet.

Again, the attached screenshot illustrates the test-case for this, just
increase the 'size' up some more and should occur. I have not tested
with any other sizes of the panel aside from the mentioned 54px, but I
have a hunch this is some kind of an edge case, because when I hit 44px
wide, the button to increase the size in the properties windows grayed
out, but this did not matter as the system had just became unresponsive.

Holy wow, I just tested this again to make sure it wasn't a fluke and it
totally crashed the entirety of gnome. Had to reboot the whole system
because gnome was totally non-responsive and messed up everywhere when I
logged in again before the reboot. Wow. (firefox saved the contents of
this textarea though, phew :])

[Bug 726496] Re: Cannot use Unity or Classic desktop with effects after the latest nvidia+xorg update

2011-05-03 Thread John M
This affects me as well. (Nvidia 7300 LE)

When booting into ubuntu classic (no effects) and then enabling compiz
with `compiz --replace` it causes the same problem. Killing compiz
unfreezes it. Disabling the compiz 'OpenGL plugin' (pretty essential),
also prevents the freeze.

[Bug 658339] Re: Evolution Super SLOW in start-up

2010-10-22 Thread John M. Novosel
I'm having similar problem. I have Ubuntu 10.10. Evolution 2.30.3.

It operates UN-REASONABLY SLOW. It is CONSTANTLY actively doing something in
the background with status showing:
  Filtering new message(s) (xxx% complete).

This percentage complete increases constantly. This process updates the
percentage complete in a staggered manner. It is fast and then slow and
then fast again and then slow again and NEVER FINISHES. I can watch it
FOR HOURS and observe that it will get to 99%, and then IMMEDIATELY go
back to 0% complete.

The process is GRINDING all the iron-oxide off of my hard drive with a
vigor that I haven't EVER SEEN BEFORE HELP!!

[Bug 528474] Re: empathy crashed with SIGSEGV in tp_proxy_get_object_path()

2010-09-05 Thread John M
With the newest empathy I don't get the crash. It seems that it was one
of GNOME's usual upgrade inconsistencies. Not sure if the following is
still relevant:

Before upgrade, I deleted everything GNOME-related, in my home directory,
except for the following:
$XDG_*_HOME/telepathy
$XDG_*_HOME/Empathy
~/.gconf/apps/empathy
~/.gconf/apps/nautilus_actions
~/.gnome2/gedit
~/.gnome2/keyring
~/.gnome2/accelsgedit (file)
~/.gnome2/gedit-2 (file)
~/.gnome2/gedit-metadata.xml (file)
~/.gnome2/Vim (file)
~/.mission-control
~/.gtk-bookmarks (file)
~/.viminfo (file)
~.vimrc (file)

(I deleted any other directories/files not related to GNOME, except the
following: $XDG_*_HOME/exaile, ~/.beagle, ~/.filezilla, ~/.mozilla,
~/.opera, ~/.Skype, ~/.ssh, ~/.thunderbird, ~/.VirtualBox, ~/.xine,
~/.bash*, ~/.pam_environment, ~/.profile)

I did a clean install on the / partition (my /home partition is
separate). After the install, empathy worked, except that it always
crashed whenever I tried to access the history of conversations. But
after yesterday's update, I can no longer reproduce the crash.

[Bug 618607] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2010-09-04 Thread John M
Nautilus is having trouble with some of my CDs.

Some of them are shown as Blank CD-R Disc, and even though they're not
blank. Nautilus only shows no contents, only the CD/DVD Creator message
with the Write to Disc button. When I mount those CDs using Disk
Utility (palimpsest), I can access their contents through one of the two
Blank CD-R Disc entries on the Places panel.

Some other CDs are not shown as blank, but those are the ones that cause
the crash when I try to access them.

On the same computer, I checked the same CDs under Red Hat (EL5.5), and
they're mounted just fine, so it's not a hardware problem.

Subject: [Bug 295120] Re: ndiswrapper wg311v3 AES kernel oops

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect 295120, and any other logs that are
relevant for this particular issue.

[Bug 554393] Re: nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin

2010-08-17 Thread John M. King
I'm running Debian and I have the same problem, and I found that un-
checking the Available to all users box fixes it for me. When that
box is un-checked, I get a GUI dialog box prompting me for my user
password, and upon putting it in I can connect successfully. So it
sounds like a problem with dbus or maybe X permissions when that box is
checked.

Hope that narrows down the problem and is a viable workaround for most
people.

[Bug 554642] Re: no cd/dvd drive detection for wine in lucid

2010-05-12 Thread John M
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 561479 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561479

This bug is not a duplicate of bug #561479.

This bug is about the absence of fstab entries for CD/DVD drives in a
fresh install of Lucid, making it impossible to access the drives in
Wine. In the other bug the drives are accessible, but the files are not
executable. I would presume this is because either the OS has been
upgraded to Lucid from an earlier version of Ubuntu, and the fstab
entries still exist, or because the user has manually add the CD/DVD
drive entries to fstab.

The bugs may be similar, but they are not the same.

Re: [Bug 526770] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/mm/slub.c:2929!

2010-04-30 Thread John M.
Hi Jeremy,

I've just updated to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and the problem still persists. I've
submitted the information report using apport-collect -p linux 526770.

What I'm trying to do now is to test the upstream mainline kernel. I've
installed the kernel but when I boot into it, It says Failed to load NVIDIA
module. Looks like the NVIDIA module is missing from this kernel. I cant
test the pedals without NVIDIA kernel because my flight sim requires the
NVIDIA drivers.

I'm assuming its the NVIDIA driver. When I try to start the flight sim I get
this message:

Xlib: extension GLX missing on display :1.0.
Whoah -- no matter how hard I tried, I failed to get a GLX visual.
Something's seriously wonky on your machine.

Any ideas how to proceed

thanks,
Jhn

 Hi John,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p linux 526770

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
  Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag.
This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

 Thanks in advance.

Re: [Bug 526770] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/mm/slub.c:2929!

2010-04-28 Thread John M.
Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the update. I can provide the information requested. What
development version of Ubuntu do you want me to try, 9.10 or 10.04?

I'd like to try with a newer development version of 9.10 (if there is one)
so that I know the rest of my setup will work. However, if thats not
possible I can try and update to 10.04.

Please let me know.

thanks,
Jhn

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
