[Bug 859628] [NEW] [gm45] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01800020
Public bug reported: I plugged my reciever (which my TV is also connected to) to my laptop through the HDMI port and it worked fine. When I plugget my monitor to my laptop through the VGA port, the laptops own screen went off and the external monitor started to show a distorted image of my desktop (that I could interact with, but I couldn't see what I was interacting with). I had to switch to a console to kill Xorg and reboot, since I got an error that the gnome session couldn't be started. [Bug 378823] Re: certain windows have their contents transparent
** Description changed: I've had this problem before in intrepid, but it dissapears and returns at will. Now it's back. The symptoms are these: in virtualbox or smplayer, the contents are transparent in the window. smplayer plays the video but nothing is visible because its transparent. @Hendrik Try to post your information there as it will catch more attention of those working with this bug. AFAIK this bug came somewhere around 2.6.16 or 2.6.17, when a new I/O scheduler was introduced (i belive). I've tried with differend schedulers (AS, CFQ and deadline) and they didn't improve anything. right now I mount my partitions with noatime and writeback in order to minimize I/O operations. I'd like to participate in your testing but you'll have to tell me what NCQ is and how i can set its values :-) @Thomas i think you're right, but i can't confirm since all my connectors are SATA. most of the people who have reported this problem are those with sata though. [Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness
Hendrik, you should comment and suscribe to the bug here: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12309 since it's a upstream bug and nothing that the ubuntu kernel team thats working on. AFAIK there's no objective ways to measure desktop responsiveness - yet. if you'd find a improvement with .29 or .30 kernel, please let me know as i have a quite similiar setup to yours. -- Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 327000] Re: skype (and QT application icons) in system tray become garbled with compiz running
updated the description to include that both nvidia and intel hardware are affected. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: compiz When compiz is running the icon of skype aswell as other KDE apps become either completly garbled in the systray or their background becomes garbled where it should be transparent. this occurs with both the Nvidia 177 and 180 drivers, aswell with the system tray in gnome-panel, AWN and KDE 4.2. This occurs randomly in gnome, but much more frequently in KDE. the only way to have the icon show properly is by replacing compiz with metacity or kwin. + + This bug appears with both nvidia and intel graphic cards. [Bug 327000] Re: skype icon in system tray has garbled background
I'm going to reassign this to compiz as it happens also in my KDE 4.2.1 desktop under fedora 10, as long as i have compiz active. It affects *all* icons in systraq, not only skype and its easily reproduced: click the hide icons arrow in the systray if that dosent mess the up, click on it again to reveal them and they will all look like a soup of all icons! I will look through if there is some particular setting or plugin thats the culprit for this symptom. ** Attachment added: "snapshot1.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24281533/snapshot1.png ** Changed in: skype Status: New => Invalid -- skype (and QT application icons) in system tray become garbled with compiz running https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327000 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 327000] Re: skype icon in system tray has garbled background
I just looked into a friend who has the exact same issue and this can be determined: It's not caused soley by nvidia since he has intel drivers ( xserver-xorg-video-intel, Version: 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10.3) and he's affected. also I have had this on several versions of nvidia drivers, up to 180.35. the only similiar factors i've found was that we were both running skype version 2.0.0.72-1 and compiz. this could either be a plugin problem from compiz or skype is using a weird way to portray their systray icon. This could also have to do with it being a QT software since i think i saw vlcs systray icon messed up once... -- skype icon in system tray has garbled background https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327000 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
