[Bug 1573408] Re: GNOME Software does not install third-party .deb packages

2017-04-17 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Possibly same bug:

Upgraded from 14.04LTS to 16.04LTS. Had to remove ROS and disable third-
party repositories.

After the upgrade, the Ubuntu Software application showed the third-
party repositories as disabled. Re-enabled them.

The Ubuntu Software store would not show ROS or KiCAD from third party
repositories, although it would show "Kicad Snap" from Canonical's
store. The repositories used are

http://ppa.launchpad.net/js-reynaud/kicad-4/ubuntu
http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu

They repositories are validly added; doing

sudo apt install kicad

installed KiCAD OK. So it's just the GUI program that's broken. It just shows
Canonical stuff.
Even with kicad installed and working, it doesn't show up in the Installed tab.

(Or is there now some secret hidden checkbox or option you have to enable for
third-party
packages to work right?)

2016-11-09 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
I'd reported a similar problem at Bug #1637781. I uninstalled all ros-
indigo packages while leaving ros-jade installed, but still got "Could
not calculate the upgrade" when attempting to upgrade 14.04 LTS to 16.04
LTS.

So this may be a problem with ros-jade as well as the older ros-indigo.

[Bug 1637781] [NEW] Upgrade from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS fails

2016-10-29 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Public bug reported:

Straightforward upgrade. 14.04LTS desktop system (x86-64) was in a valid
state, with updating working and all updates applied. Answered "Yes" to
the prompt to upgrade to 16.04 LTS. Let that run. Failed with dialog
box "Could not calculate the upgrade", with no additional useful
information.

Looking at the logs shows a huge number of "Broken" packages, many of
which are internal to Ubuntu, so that's not helpful.

Did the "ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core" thing to create this
bug report, so the detailed logs should be attached.

(There's a vast amount of contradictory advice on line at "askubuntu"
about this, with no good, non-drastic answers. This should Just Work.)

[Bug 1453538] Re: Invisible mouse pointer

2016-06-14 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Still broken in Xubuntu 16.04, with a clean wipe install on an ASUS
1001PX. To reproduce:

0. Install Xubuntu, and configure the default user to have a password.
1. Power up. Log in. Cursor is present.
2. Close lid.
3. Open lid. Log in.
4. Cursor is gone.
5. CTL-ALT-F1 then CTL-ALT-F7. Cursor reappears.

Seen on two identical ASUS 1001PX machines, both totally erased and
loaded with Xubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit from a USB stick with the MD5
verified.

There is only one display, the default "Laptop", known to the Displays
systems setting. So this isn't a problem with the cursor moving to some
nonexistent display.

This problem has a large number of hits in Google, is more than a year
old here, is marked "Critical", and still no one has taken it on. This
is a "don't use Linux" level problem for new users.

[Bug 427100] Re: JPEG2000 thumbnail causes browser to crash

2016-03-22 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Still failing intermittently on 14.04 LTS updated to current as of two
days ago. I have directories full of images such as

http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn88084272/1911-07-22/ed-1/seq-24.jp2

which are high-resolution scans of old newspapers from the Library of
Congress.

When it works correctly, the file icon shows a clock "wait" icon while a
thumbnail is being generated from the 9MB greyscale image. Doing
something with the folder during thumbnail generation breaks something,
and the file browser then crashes whenever the folder is opened.

The Nautilus crash dump should have already been automatically uploaded
to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1388511] Re: Could not calculate the upgrade. 12.04 -14.04- openmpi dependency issue

2014-11-13 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Re OpenMPI: That makes sense. I have Gazebo, the robot simulation system
installed, which pulls in ROS, the Robot Operating System and a lot of
numerical tools. That probably pulled in OpenMPI at some point.

Gazebo is a standard Ubuntu package in 12.04LTS, which is the
recommended Linux distro for Gazebo.

There's a workaround suggested at

This involves removing the entire GUI, upgrading the distro, and

[Bug 1388511] [NEW] Could not calculate the upgrade. 2.04 -14.04

2014-11-02 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Public bug reported:

Could not calculate the upgrade. An unresolvable problem occured while
calculating the upgrade. There are no details in the error dialog about
what went wrong. A screenshot of the error dialog and the usual Ubuntu-
collected information is attached.

This is a dupilcate, of course, but the bug reporting system won't find
the correct bug report (Bug #1274672 ) even if the exact title or number
is given. A Google search indicates 1,100 hits related to could not
calculate the upgrade. So it's probably a real bug.

Some comments on this bug indicate that cinnamon is the problem.
Cinnamon is not installed.

[Bug 1058777] Re: Collada import/export is missing

2013-07-13 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Blender maintainer Thomas Dinges claims in Blender 2.6 bug report
#36129:

Install blender from blender.org, we have no control over third party
builds. They seem to have Collada disabled.

Blender.org then closed the bug report, blaming Ubuntu for bad
packaging.

[Bug 1058777] Re: Collada import/export is missing

2013-07-13 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
This bug was incorrectly triaged. It's not an enhancement request.

Now that we have acknowledgement from Blender maintenance that this is a
Ubuntu failure of a valid feature, the status should be changed from
Wishlist.

[Bug 1058777] Re: Collada import/export is missing

2013-07-13 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Downloaded Blender 2.67b from Blender.org. Same version as obtained with
apt-get from the Ubuntu repository.

Collada exporter PRESENT and works in copy downloaded from Blender. org.
Collada exporter MISSING in copy downloaded from Ubuntu repository.

Something definitely went wrong in the Ubuntu packaging of Blender. I
wonder what else is missing?
