[Bug 1580466] [NEW] Xubuntu: nm-applet shows "not connected" after resume

2016-05-11 Thread Malaise
Public bug reported:

After suspend and resume the nm-applet shows the network as disconnected,
despite it works properly.
- A black popup informs that the user is disconnected
- The wifi icon is grey
- The associated menu has the "enable" entries grey

Killing and restarting the nm-applet restores the correct display.

[Bug 1476783] Re: Lenovo B5970 USB peripherals are not detected

2015-08-02 Thread Malaise
I have been bisecting around the 3.13 and 3.14 kernel releases:
The 3.13.11 fails, but far less often than the 3.13.0, and with a dmesg trace
that indicates an attempt to trace a USB issue of this kind. See dmesg_3_13_7:
 [ 20.158116] [ cut here ]

It is becoming more and more difficult to bisect.

3.14.0 seems the first release solving the issue (OK on 21 tries, to be
confirmed).
So I will simply stick on ppa 3.14-trusty until the next LTS, or upgrade to
utopic or vivid.

[Bug 1335388] Re: Firefox 30 does not play flash files

2014-07-01 Thread Malaise
I found a workaround or fix here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/478169/why-cant-firefox-run-local-swf-files
This seems to be a bug in Xubuntu 14.04 indeed, but maybe in package
shared-mime-info rather than firefox.
I don't know.

Same version of Firefox (30.0) works on Ubunu (gnome) 12.04.4, so it seems not
an issue with the binary.
Change package to firefox-3.0

After upgrading to Xubuntu 14.04 I cannot play local swf files int
Firefox any more. Was OK in 13.10.

I get the window You have chosen to open: xxx.swf which is: Shockwave Flash
file (yyyMB) from: /home/...
What should Firefox do with this file?
- Open with (Parole/Other...)
- Save File
Do this automatically...

Reinstalling 14.04 completely (and installing flashplugin-installer) and
creating a new user does not help.
Of course this works well with flash embedded in html pages.

In Firefox, there are 2 entries in the applications menu, one forshockwave
flash files and the other for SWF, as described in
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/995797.
I cannot link the action Use shockwave flash (in Firefox) to the type
shockwave flash files as it is for SWF file.

[Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-04-26 Thread Malaise
Also affects Lenovo E530 upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04.
Disabling systemd management of lid does not help.
Workaround is to disable, in the power manager, the handling of lid closing and
suspending manually (top right menu).

Yes I confirm that the problem with the scenario above is 100% reproducible
(with 2 Lucid).
With ssh -X S gnome-terminal --disable-factory the problem is still present.

Adam, if you want me to do more tests or if you want to log on my
machines you can contact me directly.

2011-03-16 Thread Malaise
With new updates of 2.6.32-29 (or maybe before) the problem seems to be solved.
I have just removed nomodset from grub config and boot time seems OK and in
dmesg I only see once:

[ 18.648980] page table error

I will confirm in the next days after several boots if the problem can
be closed.

Unfortunately I can confirm that the problem still occurs between 2 hosts on

From client host C to server host S.

C: // do NOT close (force quit) the ghost window. When S reboots it disappears

Even worse, after booting the screen remained black. No way to switch to

[Bug 584475] Re: [i945gm] Render errors during boot on HP 530, but desktop eventually loads (Needs nomodeset)

2010-06-02 Thread Malaise
In fact I still have render error trace with the option nomodeset but it
seems that they are far less than before.

2010-05-27 Thread Malaise
Now I can confirm the 100% efficiency of the workaround.
The splash screen is less nice but the notebook always boots in 30secs (from
power on to login screen).
This is a great achievement.

Booting with nomodeset seems to solve the problem.
I add the option in grub so that I can provide a more complete feedback by this
week-end.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 404064 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404064

I don't think that this bug is a dup of 404064 because:
- the GTBL_ER is different
- here there is no trace like: [drm:i915_handle_error] *ERROR* EIR stuck:
0x0010, masking
- this bug does not appear on resume from suspend

And most of all because 404064 was raised on Karmic and is fixed in
Lucid while this bug is raised on Lucid.

[Bug 584475] [NEW] Render error at startup on HP 530

2010-05-23 Thread Malaise
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

At startup of Lucid (10.04 LTS) on a HP 530 I get several errors before the
splash screen.
They seem generated by X server (xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5).

The last logs from dmesg before the errors are:
[7.567701] [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 for :00:02.0 on minor 0
[7.839899] vga16fb: initializing
[7.839904] vga16fb: mapped to 0xc00a
[7.839908] vga16fb: not registering due to another framebuffer present
[8.071269] HDA Intel :00:1b.0: power state changed by ACPI to D0
[8.071283] HDA Intel :00:1b.0: PCI INT A - GSI 16 (level, low) - IRQ
16
[8.071313] HDA Intel :00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64

Then the errors in continuous loops:
[8.156368] render error detected, EIR: 0x0010
[8.156373] page table error
[8.156376] PGTBL_ER: 0x
...
[ 109.280781] render error detected, EIR: 0x0010
[ 109.280787] page table error
[ 109.280789] PGTBL_ER: 0x

Finally the system boots and seems to work normally.
From one startup to another the number of occurrence of the error may vary
from some seconds to around 2 minutes.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 436188] Re: gnome-terminal assert failure: ERROR:terminal-app.c:1444:terminal_app_init: assertion failed: (app-default_profile_id != NULL)

2010-03-27 Thread Malaise
Now I reproduce it 100%.
From a Hardy I do: ssh -X karmic-host gnome-terminal. While the terminal is
connected reboot the Karmic host.
Then do ssh -X karmic-host gnome-terminal again.
Workaround (works 100%): On the Karmic host, rm -rf .dbus/session-bus/*, then
reboot the Hardy host.

But maybe this failure occurs in other circumstances when this
workaround does not apply.

2010-02-08 Thread Malaise
Workaround (not 100% precise):
- remove rm -rf $HOME/.dbus on both hosts
- reboot both hosts
- retry
- on the remote host, $HOME/.dbus now belongs to root!!!
- remove it (as root).

Now it works, as far as I could understand.

Can anybody explain where this reference to /tmp/dbus-xxx cames from and how
to clean it?
This seems to be stored somewhere on the remote_host, but I can't find it.
I'm sure that cleaning this obsolete reference would solve the problem.

I confirm the use case:
Problem occurs when stopping (shutdown) the remote host while a ssh -X

Local host is Hardy, remote is Karmic. DisallowTCP=false on remote host, of
course.

[Bug 436188] Re: gnome-terminal assert failure: ERROR:terminal-app.c:1444:terminal_app_init: assertion failed: (app-default_profile_id != NULL)

2010-01-25 Thread Malaise
Correction
Problem occurs IF stopping (shutdown) the remote host while a ssh -X
remote_host gnome-terminal is running.
And it occurs AFTER rebooting the remote host, of course.

[Bug 436188] Re: gnome-terminal assert failure: ERROR:terminal-app.c:1444:terminal_app_init: assertion failed: (app-default_profile_id != NULL)

2009-12-12 Thread Malaise
$ ssh -X karmic-host gnome-terminal
fails to work correctly.

i confirm. From a Hary I do: ssh -X karmic-host gnome-terminal
It fails with:
Xlib: extension Generic Event Extension missing on display localhost:10.0.

// 6l times

Failed to get the session bus: Failed to connect to socket
/tmp/dbus-MQ78xxPMgm: Connection refused
Falling back to non-factory mode.
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are
that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS
locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for
information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Failed to

ERROR:terminal-app.c:1444:terminal_app_init: assertion failed:
(app-default_profile_id != NULL)

Sometimes it is fixed after a reboot of the karmic host, but rarely.

In fact, it seems to be fixed after doing:
rm -rf $HOME/.dbus on the remote host then reboot it.

2008-08-05 Thread Malaise
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: manpages

Ubuntu 8.04.1
The man regex(7) does not describe the '/' and '/' meta sequences that match
beginning and end of word.
Still, these meta sequences are recognised by regcomp/regex.

[Bug 55973] Re: Patch for crash with message can't create MCOP directory

2007-11-18 Thread Malaise
For the problem with mpg321 file failing with
Creating link /home/user/.kde/socket-hostname.
can't create mcop directory

The solution or workaround is mkdir -p $HOME/.kde/socket-$HOSTNAME.

[Bug 152277] Re: vim-runtime (Gutsy): ada.vim with syntax errors

2007-10-23 Thread Malaise
Me too.
As a workaround I have moved /usr/share/vim/vim71/ftplugin/ada.vim as a .old
This does not prevent Ada syntax highlightening.
