[Bug 1095068] Re: Empathy: No contacts on gtalk: 'status is set to offline'
I'm not sure why you come to that conclusion, but I always authorize the accounts whenever requested (the top right menu button turns red). In fact, I repeatedly authorized and unauthorized the gtalk account when debugging the problem, trying to make Empathy show the contacts. In any case the problem seems mitigated, it happens infrequently now (and never does if I just use the messaging icon workaround). [Bug 1095068] [NEW] Empathy: No contacts on gtalk: 'status is set to offline'
Public bug reported: This problem happens in two computers, whether I use auto-login or not, with Ubuntu 12.10. I configured two accounts on the Online Accounts window: Facebook and Google. My Facebook contacts always appear on Empathy, but gTalk contacts almost never appear, with the error message status is set to offline appearing in red at the top of Empathy's main window. I have to restart Empathy several times until I get lucky and it shows my gTalk contacts. I also try setting my status to Online in various ways: through the Unity Panel, through Empathy's main-window 'Go Online' button, and through Empathy's main-window dropdown box. The symptoms are the same no matter what I do. [Bug 946677] Re: UMS dri support missing for r200
I would like to reopen this bug because it does seem that it is not a question of UMS support for dri on r200 or r300. I'm on PP beta 2 on i386, I've compiled and installed mesa 7.11 and 7.10 and the problem remains. Didn t notice before as I didn t need to disable modesetting. I'm investigating by compiling different options and it seems somehow linked to the radeondrmfb which seems to do more than framebuffering. Anyhow it seems off that UMS support for relatively recent cards would be dropped, i've googled a bit and didn t find any metion of this, just the dropping of older cards. [Bug 355232] Re: acpi-cpufreq/powernow-k8 should not be built-in into the kernel image
Sure I have old hardware, but I have to recompile the entire kernel with module enabled for speedstep-centrino instead of just compiling the module in a few seconds, as I have to patch the driver for accepting the cpufreq tables for my Sonoma (stepping C0) 2.0 GHz Pentium-M which is not standard built-in (btw also affects all Dothans (stepping B0), only Banyas tables are built-in). Just to add some feedback, despite the crash notification the session is not impaired and compiz continues working, I guess it is relaunched. Browsing other similar errors, I could resume functionality for Chrome and Opera by installing nspluginwrapper and editing npviewer as per the click error . Enabling compiz or not doesn t seem to make any difference. But the error remains for Firefox. Some flash will just not completely appear and in youtube I get a blank. I can see the original black screen for for a few miliseconds.. What surprised me a bit is that when using Flashblock I won't get the the logo on youtube (in other apps yes). So it seems really that I have a broken flash plugin. Reinstalling from adobe did not change anything. As noted, Chrome and Opera are working ok. Well Steve, first thanks for the attention. You all seem to confirm we were right to maintain as a bug since this is not happening to a majority of users and could remain unnoticed. Sorry if we lack more info but we were already quite lucky to bypass the issue and be able to pinpoint on plymouth. AFAIC I ve made on Monday/Tuesday (2 days ago) a totally clean upgrade from 9.10 using update-manager -d, downloaded 1,7 G and restarted. After i could init with bin/bash and network with dhclient eth0, i could do another apt-get dist-upgrade which download another 178 M (despite my really fresh upgrade), which included an update to plymouth as i could notice. So i guess i have really the lastest plymouth version. Alt-Fn wont work. No particular detail to releve but that it was an upgrade from 9.04 and that my amilo fujitsu siemens laptop has a vt6132 raid controller so that raid is afaik always enabled even if there is only one hard drive. In the past this prevented me from installing opensolaris as the driver for the raid controller was not available and the disk would not be recognized. This couldn t be disabled on bios. Also it a SCSI controlled hard drive steup. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Lucid beta 1 won' t boot, stuck after init bottom https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/552046 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 546343] [NEW] Grub doesn't display distro's versions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub2 I don't know if this is by design, but my opinion is it shouldn't be. Grub2 (both 30_os-prober and 10_linux) saves menu entries for linux distros using only the name and kernel version. So instead of displaying: Ubuntu 10.04 (or Ubuntu Lucid Lynx), with Linux yada yada we have Ubuntu, with Linux yada yada which is (again, in my opinion) more confusing when you're trying to choose the version you want to boot. My opinion is we should have the Distro's complete name and version and (maybe!) omit the kernel for the latest one. All the other OS's are using $LONGNAME for their menu entries, so why not linux? I don't usually know what kernel version I have in my Distros, but I do know their version numbers. [Bug 25547] Re: splash screen does not free virtual console #8
This confirms my fears that my bug #429616 wouldn't be fixed quickly as this is trailing for 4 years. At least here it was ranked medium while mine was ranked low. I've investigated a bit and it seems that the culprit is in usplash.c, where the vt is opened, activated on vt8 by ioctl VT_ACTIVATE, duplicated on stdin and then closed (close(vt_fd)). Apparently this is not sufficiendt as it is detached but not deallocated. I've found a poorly documented option VT_DISALLOCATE in ioctl but it didn'work. Also adding VT_RELDISP as recommended somewhere didn help but I don't know the right sequence. The workarounds seem to be: a) set gdm.conf to start on VT9 instead of VT7 b) or hack the source code to start usplash in VT10. Mainly in usplash.c , 2 lines, and also libusplash.c for some checks (like requiring vt 10). Also needs initramfs script to maknod 10 ttys, as it only creates the bare minimum 8... c) or simply comment out 3 lines in libusplash.c where usplash is attached to vt8. It works the same and actually can't see why the usplash is attached to a vt, there must be a reason i guess. -- splash screen does not free virtual console #8 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/25547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 429616] Re: x display manager won't open session on next free vt
Sebastien I beg to differ. Though sure this is not a critical bug, it certainly is one since it's well documented that new vts should be created sequentially, vt7, vt8, etc... Also before I came to the startx discovery I've found quite a few complaints, some very old dating from hardy or 2005 (like this https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- users/2005-November/056772.html) from a standard user). I'm sure many people quit complaining as they assume that vt8 anyway is allocated to usplash and have not been told you can redirect it. I can say myself this is a regression as it worked ok in Feisty/Gutsy. More importand yet, there are a number of indirect bugs probably related to this, like bug #172444 running since Gutsy Also please note that the behaviour occurs inside gdm but also from pure startx command. For the time being I've modified gdm to start at vt9. Startx then launches at vt7 and a second startx session launches at vt...10. Could you maybe give a hint of which file I should hack to get startx behaving as specified or is it hardcoded ? Bottom line, I would ask you to raise to medium so that I can see it fixed one day. It doesn't seem too hard to fix and the benefits may be greater than it appears. -- x display manager won't open session on next free vt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429616 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I disagree. Can´t see since when .xsessionrc is the default sourced file, this would be against a lot of legacy. [Bug 27109] Re: nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session
I think that this is not right way to handle a bug that has been reported since three years and through even more distros releases. I've just landed here for the first time since I'm using nautilus for sftp and was worried by this strange cpu activity even - and especially - after the download would end, fearing that my transfers could not have been cleanly closed. True that ie used in the past (more than a year ago) sftp and didn't recall this behaviour. I can reproduce at any tine: just open a remote sftp window and transfer (I've dragged the directory from my local directory window and dropped). Can see any other special setup that could influence, except that I 'm running a SSVNC session thus having two ssh sessions. Also I'm using key authentication, in case this matters. -- nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/27109 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 27109] Re: nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session
Just another hint that just happened: I've tried to unmount the sftp folder and the desktop was frozen (only, other app widows would work normally) then all icons simply disappeared. Killing the sftp process made reappear the desktop icons. So maybe it a problem rather linked to the display of the sftp volume on the desktop. In the past I had complain to no avail to the rather lousy implementation of this desktop icon, which bring you back to root directory after first login, so maybe it's more a dbus issue or whatever. -- nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/27109 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 308211] Re: usplash fails to unlock x on vt8 (ibex)
Update: I'll eventually invalidate this bug or change its scope because: It happens I could open an xserver on vt8 (was using only startx -- :1 instead of startx -- :1 vt8) so vt8 is definitely not locked as it would happen with default console=tty8 (and of course there is no ghost xserver). So I deduce for the time being the culprit is... the New session feature from gnome-session manager which is apparently going directly to vt9, even though vt8 IS released.. Could it be that this was modded exactly to avoid any conflict with the vt8 usplash (I doubt as the new session feature works fine if usplash is disabled) ? Or simply that new session is being misinformed about vt8 being free (it seems now since ibex that hal is taking care of some X stuff so maybe it is related - would make sense). -- usplash fails to unlock x on vt8 (ibex) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308211 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 308211] Re: usplash fails to unlock x on vt8 (ibex)
Sorry for additional comment: Bug is also not related to new session. Simply put, startx -- :1 vt8 opens normally on vt8 but startx -- :1 opens on vt9. So it seems the system believes vt8 is not available. [Bug 308211] [NEW] usplash fails to unlock x on vt8 (ibex)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: usplash Description: on boot, everything runs fine but when a new session ornew gdm login screen is created, it jumps to vt9. Expected it to be created in vt8. Release: Upgraded Ibex 8.10 with last updates, fglrx driver 8.543 from synaptics. Some resignated people may say this is the normal behaviour of usplash, but in Hardy I had succeeded in bypassing this by passing console=tty[1-6] option to the kernel together with quiet splash. Since I upgraded (as far I can notice) to Ibex, this works no more. Console redirection still works fine and vt8 apparently won´t be used by usplash. Still, vt8 screens seems locked, even if just displays a blinking cursor on black screen as the other vt[9-12], as described above. I don´t know which is the culprit: I´ve checked that no usplash process is displayed in top or ps. There is no Xorg.1.lock in tmp and I´ve actually deleted all all /tmp/Xorg.*.lock and rebooted to no avail. Seems like a ghost xserver is created somewhere and not released. Have tried to disable special effects of the fglrx driver to no avail. After many tests though I´ve succeded briefly to fix by passing console=tty[1-2] as I realized the fonts there were modified by usplash. But having thought I had unlocked for good, I´ve restored console=tty4 as I used to and the lock reappeared and tty[1-2] won´t refix... Of course without usplash everything runs fine and new sessions are created on vt8. ** Affects: usplash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- usplash fails to unlock x on vt8 (ibex) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308211 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 239021] Re: Hardy Freeze/Lockup with kernel 2.6.24-16-generic up to 2.6.24-19-generic
Seems like a I have the same issue. Had had in the past some rare lockups but since Hardy 2.6.24 (and I guess since update to .1 - or -19 - even more) I've had more frequent lock-ups. Hard drive led starts blinking fast as for a low-level routine and nothing happens, complete freeze, only sys-alt-b works and in general when I reboot I happen to have a kernel panic for out of sync. Nothing works then included power button, have to take out the battery of my laptop ! Today happened twice, for some reason when opening Trash folder in nautilus and trying to run the script to have root rights in the window to restore a resilient file. Was able to reproduce (actually not intentionally since I never imagined this could be the cause of it). The other times seemed more linked to use of Firefox. Is it related to acpi, should i set it off ? -- Hardy Freeze/Lockup with kernel 2.6.24-16-generic up to 2.6.24-19-generic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239021 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210957] Re: Connect to server sftp mount does not save folder location
I´ve now seen now that bug #198857 is indeed a duplicate technically speaking, but from my average-joe perspective I was far away from guessing the issues behind of what seems now majorly a basic UI bug rather than an architecture issue. Simply stated, I just wanted like a granma to connect to a sftp folder (true, based on the previous experience from gutsy), and expected the behaviour of the installed icon to be the same of the window opened. My suggestion is that it is a bad compromise (probably with good intention of providing legacy) and better not to display any icon on the desktop rather than a useless (for granma) and annoying (for me) root folder . Of course the best still seems to me to have the gutsy config, a folder icon opening on my home folder. -- Connect to server sftp mount does not save folder location https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210957 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
