[Bug 694224] Re: Synchronous notifications briefly steal focus
This lost-focus is not caused by notify-osd itself. You can verify this by running Dylan's provided python-script and triggering lp:notify-osd/examples/icon-value.py in another terminal (with a "sleep 10" before that, so you've enough time to focus Dylan's running python-script and its output). icon-value.py is triggering the exact same type of notification that a regular volume-up/down would be made of. What's actually stealing the focus is the process handling the multimedia-keys input. That's the media-keys-manager part (libmedia- keys.so) of lp:gnome-settings-daemon iirc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/694224 Title: Synchronous notifications briefly steal focus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/694224/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1476664] Re: not possible to answer call when low battery indicator is shown
Greetings Petar! I'm not sure I fully understand the state your phone is in, when this happens to you. From my understanding it appears you might not be aware of the collapse/expand feature of snap-decision notifications of unity8. This happens when there is more than one snap-decision notification on- screen at the same time. I've tried to replicate as much of your situation as I can take away from your bug-description and made a video showing off the way how snap- decision notifications behave and can be interacted with... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwPC6n5w9W0 Have a look at that video. Does that provide a solution to your issue? Or if not could you give a more detailed description of how to reproduce it... a video of the issue you run into would be even better. [Bug 1008182] Re: Provide a link to close notifications
The interaction-design (or rather non-interaction design) of desktop- notifications wrt to NotifyOSD (used in conjuction with unity7 on the current desktop) does explicitly not provide any means to allow/force the user to act on them (e.g. close them). The notification-bubbles do not get in your way (they are click-through and defocus if you hover the mouse-pointer over them) to not break any workflow and interrupt your current actions (e.d. clicking button, reading text) with any UI-element, which might be below the notification-bubbles. That's why it's marked as Won't Fix. For reference, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#Rationale The new notification-system (for unity8) revisits notifications and their interaction-design. Currently unity8 is only used on devices such as phones and tablets, but will make its way to the desktop too (keyword: convergence). [Bug 1422711] Re: SIM pin notification breaks notification positioning
The proposed fix in the MP works. Now I need to see with mzanetti (or any other reviewer), if we're all happy with the proposed solution. The visual glitch, when the SIM pin-entry fullscreen notification, opens, is due to the way the custom UI is injected into the notification. The interpretation of the hint-injected UnityMenuModel - transporting the SIM pin-entry UI - kicks in only after the notification as such is started being processed. How to avoid that delay, I don't know yet. I'm not even sure if that's technically possible at all. The clean separation of notifications and dialogs will bring and end to such issues though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1422711 Title: SIM pin notification breaks notification positioning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1422711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1384730] Re: [notifications] remove combo button from incoming call snap
This is actually two-fold... first the notification-frontend (notification-plugin in unity8) needs to change the used UI-elements for additional actions ( 2 actions). [Bug 1378618] Re: volume notification looks bad when an indicator is open
You are all not fully correct. Current notifications in unity8 trunk have snap-decisions using dark on bright. All other notification-types use bright on dark. These color- schemes are static currently. The unity8 branch (lp:~macslow/unity8/synchronous-notification) up for review - introducing the synchronous notification type - also introduces dynamically adapting color-schemes for all non-snap-decision notification types. Thus ephemeral, interactive and synchronous notification-types are able to dynamically switch from bright on dark (default) to dark on bright based on two cases... 1.) They show up if one or more snap-decision notification is currently shown 2.) They show up if an indicator is visible. Please also see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwEYLXNaL0Q (esp. at 0:23). It is true that the notification-system can't monitor the average background color of what is behind it. Gaining that capability is very unlikely - now and in the future - but this new branch is trying to solve conceptual UX-flaws for RTM as much as possible. This is certainly better than what we have currently in unity8 trunk. It will avoid getting several user-complains of dark on dark situations. So this bug is implicitly fixed in lp:~macslow/unity8/synchronous-notification already. ** Branch linked: lp:~macslow/unity8/synchronous-notification -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1378618 Title: volume notification looks bad when an indicator is open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1378618/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1358343] Re: [notifications] too easy to answer a call by accident
Just had the meeting with Olga and James to answer the above mentioned questions. Results from the meeting are... - sizes, margins and colors of the current implementation-state are accoding to design - transition animations are provided now - used icons in design-mockup are wrong, implementation is using correct icons - we have to introduce a new hint for this swipe-to-act button for the use in incoming-call snap-decision notifications, triggering incoming- call snap-decision in telephony-app needs to be adapted (I'll also do that), other snap-decision use-cases are left untouched by this change - the initial red/green UbuntuShape with the phone-icons will gradually fade out and finally be replaced with the outlined version the moment the slider is fully covering that area - we agreed to keep the final state (of the outlined UbuntuShape with the symbolic icon) despite it being only visible for a very brief moment -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1358343 Title: [notifications] too easy to answer a call by accident To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dialer-app/+bug/1358343/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1232633] Re: [system] Changing volume doesn't show feedback on the phone
This warning is only shown to the user (on Android) if headphones are plugged it. We too could display such a warning by triggering a corresponding snap- decision from indicator-sound. With our current notification-system we have all needed means for this in place. But what icon, summary- and body-text should it display? What labels should be used on the buttons. How should the phone (indicator-sound) behave if the user selects Cancel? How long should it (indicator-sound) remember that user- choice? Until headphones are unplugged and plugged in again? This needs some good thought and user-journey from Design. What we need on the side of indicator-sound is a way to determine, if a headphone is currently plugged into the phone or not. [Bug 1306769] Re: pinlock snap decision potentially allows malicious app to gain access to user PIN and Passcode
Extracting the whole snap-decision functionality into a separate dialog service, which would be easier to isolate, feels like a too large effort for rtm, considering the other fires we've to put out still. Admittedly I've not done a thorough analysis of the expected effort yet. But it will require major changes in lp:unity-notifications, lp:unity8, all the numerous snap-decision using apps, the new dialog-service itself and of course new Design guidelines for how such a service would fit in the current notification-concept. Before such an effort should be started the exact functional requirements need to be ironed out, so we avoid having to fix things up as we implement it... like it happened with snap-decision notifications, which got loaded with more and more typical dialog-like features as we went along. All of the above will additionally also require new qml/AP-tests and of course user- and integration-testing. Re: [Bug 1295762] Re: snap decision timeout needs to be determined by the requesting app
Am 11.06.2014 12:20, schrieb Lars Uebernickel: I disagree. The x-canonical-snap-decisions-timeout is intentionally used in favour of the Freedesktop timeout feature, to indicate very clearly, that is is only applicable to snap-decisions notifications. I think that's unnecessary for the same reason I thought introducing hints for snap decision actions was unnecessary. The hint x-canonical-snap-decisions is an indicating hint, e.g. like the standard body hint, and used to point out that there are certain rules enforced upon the use of actions, put forth by UX-design, which deviate from the FDO-standard. Therefore I do not regard x-canonical-snap-decisions as being unnecessary. Furthermore hints are the designated means to introduce new features (or different behaviour). It's unlikely that developers have a problem understanding that the timeout only applies to a specific kind of notification. Being explicit rather than implicit avoids misunderstanding and possible false-positive bug-reports due to that. Adding additional hints only increases the complexity of the API and makes it harder to switch between different kinds of notifications. By design every introduced notification-type serves a very specific purpose, that differs in behaviour, visuals and interaction. Thus switching between different notification-types is not a common thing to do for a developer, unless UX-requirements change later on. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1295762 Title: snap decision timeout needs to be determined by the requesting app To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-network/+bug/1295762/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1295762] Re: snap decision timeout needs to be determined by the requesting app
I disagree. The x-canonical-snap-decisions-timeout is intentionally used in favour of the Freedesktop timeout feature, to indicate very clearly, that is is only applicable to snap-decisions notifications. Using the regular parameter of the Notify() method - and only applying it snap-decisioin notifications - would be misleading, because the intention of that timeout parameter is to be affecting all kinds of notifications.

There's a feature-request from Design to allow apps to control the timeout duration of a notification. See https://bugs.launchpad.net /unity-notifications/+bug/1295762. This will facilitate addressing the issue of this bug. So once #1295762 is fixed, timeout issues can be addressed on a case-by-case basis, instead of having to increase timeouts globally for selected cases.
