Well, on Arch the issue, (as I said before) doesn't seem to be present. However can't you just check yourself? It should be quite easy to reproduce if it's still a bug. [Bug 1652282] Re: GParted does not work in GNOME on Wayland
So, basically, Wayland doesn't allow something really insecure where the whole GUI and everything has root privileges, so it doesn't allow insecure applications to gain root access, however a program can be easily adapted (depending on how it's written) in order to be secure and then you will be able to run it as normal under Wayland. For instance etherape recently got adapted and you just have to now run it like so "sudo etherape -Z username" and then it runs in a way Wayland finds secure and thus it runs as normal as a GUI program but it just runs the GUI as the normal specified user and only the necessary components as root. Anyway, has GParted upstream released a fix for this? Programs just have to match the new security standards in order to run. That's all, they will have to change and then your experience will be fine again. But I don't think you're going to be able to lessen the Wayland standards, instead take this up with the other developers so that they make their programs meet those standards. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652282 Title: GParted does not work in GNOME on Wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdm/+bug/1652282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1652282] Re: Xwayland not using XAUTHORITY, prevents root applications from connecting
I am afraid that this is a Wayland security feature and that it is not going to be removed just because some users don't like it or don't understand why it is there. As a workaround you can just carry on using Xorg, but under Wayland the program has to be adapted in order not to run the whole program and GUI as root but rather just the specific things within it that need that. I'm not sure that there actually is anything the Ubuntu people can actually do about this though unless they hack at Wayland and make it less secure. If you want to change Wayland then file an upstream report about this. Ubuntu is really just packaging and redistributing this stuff. ** Changed in: gparted (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - Xwayland not using XAUTHORITY, prevents root applications from connecting + GParted does not work in GNOME on Wayland ** Tags added: yakkety ** Description changed: - When running wayland, GDM fails to set up an XAUTHORITY file and instead - relies on the process UID for authentication. [Bug 1690558] [NEW] Two clicks rather than one are needed in the poweroff dialog for buttons
Public bug reported: I have found that on my Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 installation with GNOME 3.24.x that in the power off dialog one is now needed to click twice on any of the buttons in order to make them do anything ("Cancel", "Restart" and "Shutdown" buttons). Or rather, one is needed to click anywhere on the screen before the buttons respond, it is up to you, you can click twice on the button you wish to do something, or you may click anywhere else including on any of the other buttons, then just click for the second time on the button you want to and it will realise that you have clicked it. The first click doesn't even trigger the little animation of the button. This issue wasn't present with GNOME 3.22 Ubuntu GNOME 16.10. I said that all of the buttons have this issue, but actually that only started today, previously the "Cancel" button would work with just one click, but after days of that button working, it has now stopped behaving as it should, and started behaving like the others. However my friend with GNOME 3.24.x tells me that his "Cancel" button still works as expected while the others do not. ** Affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: zesty ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690558 Title: Two clicks rather than one are needed in the poweroff dialog for buttons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1690558/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1653153] Re: Windows not always drawn in correct places in AO when under Wayland
Since 3.24 on Arch Linux I have also noticed that if one is to go into the AO and: 1. Shift-click to open an application without leaving the AO, or use a keyboard shortcut in order not to have to go back into the AO but to stay in it. 2. Before the window for the application appears in the view click and drag and carry on holding any window in the AO. 3. Release the window when the new one comes up. If you follow the above steps then you should see something like this: Overlapping_Windows_In_AO.png And if you do the above, but instead of opening a new window, you are to click the "x" button on and then quickly click and drag a window you will either find that the same thing happens, or a large gap is left like here: Gap_Left_In_AO.png ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu-gnome Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1653153 Title: Windows not always drawn in correct places in AO when under Wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1653153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1652282] Re: GParted does not work in GNOME on Wayland
@Phillip, Wayland actually does accommodate it, I have an Arch system where it works perfectly fine with running GParted as root. The reason it doesn't work on Ubuntu is not completely because of Wayland, but rather because of how Wayland has been set up by the Ubuntu GNOME team. Which is intentional for security. I don't know, but you might be able to disable this since it's probably somewhere in the configuration. I don't know, I just know that on Arch there is no issue with this with the standard Wayland. ** Summary changed: - Wayland default policy prohibits root applications + GParted does not work in GNOME on Wayland ** No longer affects: wayland (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: gparted (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gparted (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652282 Title: GParted does not work in GNOME on Wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gparted/+bug/1652282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1685878] [NEW] Gedit bottom scroll bar goes on top of final line
Public bug reported: I am on Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 with GNOME 3.24, though obviously still Gedit 3.22, and I have found something slightly annoying with it, and that is that when mousing over the last line to try to copy and paste it for instance, the bottom scroll bar goes on top of it and obscures it. I have attached two screenshots of what I mean. This also affects me on Arch so I have filled an upstream report on this. ** Affects: gedit Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #781669 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781669 ** Also affects: gedit via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781669 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1685878 Title: Gedit bottom scroll bar goes on top of final line To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gedit/+bug/1685878/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1681768] [NEW] Allow adding of categories to dock
Public bug reported: I find the categories in the Activities Overview's applications list rather useful when it comes to certain groups of applications which I use, however I have to go all the way into the list to get the grouping which should make it much easier to access certain applications which are perhaps used together (I mean categories such as Sundry or Utilities). So I think it would be rather useful if one could 'Favourite' these and make it so that they stay in the dock. Then perhaps when clicking on them a long thing could come out of the dock with the icon lists of the various applications in the list, or some other way of allowing the user to select the application they wish from the category. ** Affects: gnome-shell Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #781174 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781174 ** Also affects: gnome-shell via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781174 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #764476 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764476 ** Changed in: gnome-shell Remote watch: GNOME Bug Tracker #781174 => GNOME Bug Tracker #764476 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1681768 Title: Allow adding of categories to dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1681768/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1672161] [NEW] Have better archive handling
Public bug reported: I have a system running Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 with GNOME 3.22 and I have found that in this version of GNOME if one right-clicks on a file or folder or a group of them and goes to "Compress..." that they are provided with 3 different formats to compress into, however the options which allow splitting of large archives into smaller ones as well as the ability to encrypt them with a password are gone. This can obviously still be done through the CLIs of the various tools, however it would be useful to have such features accessible as they used to be through the GUI. Perhaps this is a side-effect of making all Nautilus activities central to the Nautilus GUI? Because I think I remember it possibly opening another program in the past which had these options. Regardless of what it and how it did it in the past, these are vital options which are missing and I think should be added back for ease of use. I am fine with using the CLI, but many users are not. ** Affects: nautilus Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #773366 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773366 ** Also affects: nautilus via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773366 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1672161 Title: Have better archive handling To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1672161/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1662688] [NEW] Have drag and drop support for the dock
Public bug reported: It would be useful if the dock in the AO supported drag and drop, that is so that one may drag a file to one of its docked applications and it may open it. Although this wouldn't necessarily be so useful for standard installs, users of extensions such as Dash to Dock would find this highly useful. So it would be nice if this feature were at least supported so that they could implement it as such extensions are becoming more and more popular day by day. ** Affects: gnome-shell Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #696321 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696321 ** Also affects: gnome-shell via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696321 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1662688 Title: Have drag and drop support for the dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1662688/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
