[Bug 1956212] Re: No Diodon applet in the Notification Zone

I am converting this as the issue is not caused by Diodon directly. The
discussion can continue this way to see how to solve the issue or adding
links to upstream support request etc.

[Bug 1956212] Re: No Diodon applet in the Notification Zone

2022-01-11 Thread Oliver Sauder
As far as I know use Skype and Zoom the same technology for the
indicator whereas the sound manger etc. have native implementations. So
it really seems like you have an issue with application indicator or
KStatusNotifierItem which there are called in the QT world.

So one thing is that you verify that you have https://github.com/mate-
desktop/mate-indicator-applet installed (there should be a deb package)
and the applet is actually added to the panel.

For more assistant you best call out the the Mate desktop community
itself as they can give you better feedback.

I am converting this to a question as it is not caused by Diodon
directly.

[Bug 1956212] Re: No Diodon applet in the Notification Zone

2022-01-10 Thread Oliver Sauder
I have a feeling the issue is most likely not Diodon related but
indicator related.

So to confirm this do you have another app which uses the libayatana-
indicator and see whether that shows up?

Another idea which came to my mind is that you might have a different
theme on the two different machines and it cannot find the icon in one
of them. But most likely this is not the case but wanted to throw in
there to be sure.

[Bug 1956212] Re: No Diodon applet in the Notification Zone

2022-01-07 Thread Oliver Sauder
Diodon uses Ayantana Indicators
https://github.com/AyatanaIndicators/libayatana-appindicator. I've never
had to debug indicators as it always worked so not sure how to go about
this.

This said it seems Mate makes some configuration changes in terms of
indicator. I have found this https://github.com/ubuntu-mate/ubuntu-mate-
settings/blob/master/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/30_ubuntu-
mate.gschema.override#L46

Maybe comparing those settings between the two MATE desktop you have
might reveal where the problem is.

2022-01-05 Thread Oliver Sauder
I tried to reproduce this on Debian Stable with Mate and the indicator
appeared without any problem.

So could you try to run the following:

dconf write /net/launchpad/diodon/plugins/active-plugins "['indicator']"

this ensures that the indicator plugin is enabled in your configuration.

[Bug 1943166] Re: Diodon doesn't display clips until after reboot

2021-09-16 Thread Oliver Sauder
I guess you had already a Diodon instance running and only one instance
of Diodon can run at the same time and therefore no output in the debug
log.

So when you have enough items in your clipboard do the following:

1. killall diodon
2. G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all diodon > diodon_debug.txt
3. Now execute Clear
4. Copy a few items to see whether the error occurs

and then attach the debug file here. Hope this debug file will help us
dig deeper into the issue.

[Bug 1943166] Re: Diodon doesn't display clips until after reboot

2021-09-10 Thread Oliver Sauder
Thanks for your report. I could not reproduce this issue on my machine.

Two questions to better identify the issue:

1. instead of rebooting does a simple closing of Diodon and opening it again
bring the history back?
2. Could you attach the debug log while doing the action mentioned above?

For this close Diodon and run it with the following in the terminal:

G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all diodon > diodon_debug.txt

Once you run Clear and run some more copy events attach the file in this
issue.

[Bug 1475993] Re: Freeze logout in Ubuntu 15.04

2015-07-20 Thread Oliver Sauder
This could be the same error then #1391330

But to completely verify what could cause it would be good to have a
debug log.

You can do this by going to Startup applications and changing the Diodon
command to the following:
bash -c G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all setsid /usr/bin/diodon
/home/username/diodon_debug.log

Replace username with your username. When you now logout and login
Diodon will create a debug log diodon_debug.log.

During Logout when the process is hanging get a copy of diodon_debug.log
and attach it here.

Thanks.

[Bug 1405525] Re: database is locked error prevents Diodon from adding items to or clearing history

2015-07-04 Thread Oliver Sauder
Thanks Tasos for this additional feedback.

It is certainly not a good thing that zeitgeist-daemon needs to be
started during build which of course can cause issues as in your case.
Something I have noticed in the past as well. I now split integration
tests where Zeitgeist is needed and unit tests so this error during
build is not happening again see Bug #1471438

What the original cause of this issue is, is still unclear to me. I also
had zeitgeist-daemon running as root and my user without any problems.

It is not good that zeitgeist-daemon is started as root in any case -
but this is not necessary a cause of Diodon as every other application
depending on Zeitgeist can issue starting of this daemon.

All in all is this a Zeitgeist issue. I haven't reported this yet though
as unfortunately I have not been able to create an example where it can
be reproduced which would be needed for the Zeitgeist team to fix it.

[Bug 1388083] Re: Cannot paste into gnome-terminal

2015-06-30 Thread Oliver Sauder
A new gsettings has been introduced at net.launchpad.Diodon.clipboard
.app-paste-keybindings which is a string array mapping application to
keybindings for paste action.

For now only gnome-terminal is added but can be adjusted by advanced
users if there is any other application which uses a different key then
Ctrl+V for pasting.

Ready for testing in daily ppa.

[Bug 1405525] Re: database is locked error prevents Diodon from adding items to or clearing history

2015-04-17 Thread Oliver Sauder
This is a zeitgeist bug so we have to see whether we get more
information from the zeitgeist service itself, could even be an corrupt
database.

So when you have this error that the database is locked, keep Diodon running
and run the following command:
zeitgeist-daemon --replace --log-file zg.log --log-level=debug

now copy something to the clipboard and see what the output is of
zeigeist-daemon is and attach it here.

Thanks.

[Bug 1429558] Re: displays Empty after copying text.

2015-03-12 Thread Oliver Sauder
I do not think a Diodon bug tracker is the right place to ask such a
question... ;).

Also do not really see the problem with this setting which is in fact
not a work around but an additional privacy option - any clipboard
manager needs to store you copy events somewhere they only difference is
that there is a privacy option that Diodon obeys and the others don't.

As not a bug closing this issue now - unless this setting didn't work
please let me know.

[Bug 1412688] Re: 14.10 : diodon doesn't work and diodon-plugins not found

In version 1.2.0 there is no more diodon-plugins packages as all plugins
we integrated into core or integrated into the package unity-scope-

In terms of nothing being added to the history I most likely think it has to do
with the problem described here:

zeitgeist-daemon shouldn't run twice and especially not as root so maybe
this is the problem.

I wonder though how this has happened that zeitgeist-daemon started as
root.

Could it be that you at one point opened a desktop session as root or
started a desktop application which potentially uses Zeitgeist with
sudo?

As I cannot reproduce the problem I can only guess - most likely are
there several zeitgeist-daemon or zeitgeist-fts running which are

Can you check the following:

if it does the output of the command would be helpful.

[Bug 1391330] Re: Cannot log out if Diodon is running

2014-11-11 Thread Oliver Sauder
Thanks for the bug report... I will need some more details to verify
what's happening.

* What Diodon are you running on what Ubuntu version?
* Can you also attach a debug log when this happens?

You can do this by going to Startup applications and changing the Diodon
command to the following:
bash -c G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all setsid /usr/local/bin/diodon
/home/username/diodon_debug.log

Replace username with your username. When you now restart your machine
Diodon with create a debug log diodon_debug.log.

When this is happening Try to log out... when the whole process is
hanging get a copy of the debug log and attach to this issue.

Thanks.

[Bug 1388083] Re: Cannot paste into gnome-terminal

2014-10-31 Thread Oliver Sauder
Yeah gnome-terminal doesn't support Ctrl+V which Diodon simulates to
press when pasting... in gnome-terminal only Ctrl+Shift+V works...

It is hard to actually fix this but maybe a solution would be to have a
list of application which do not support Ctrl+V to execute a different
key

A workaround is when you enable Use primary selection pasting should
work as it will paste with Ctrl+Insert from the primary selection which
also works in the terminal.

[Bug 1388083] Re: Cannot paste into gnome-terminal

2014-10-31 Thread Oliver Sauder
In previous Diodon versions the option Use primary selection was enabled
per default. This has changed and it is not the default anymore. See
reasoning why this has changed here http://esite.ch/2014/03/22
/introducing-new-default-settings-for-diodon/

As said if you want to have it work again simply enable this option in
your Diodon preferences dialog.

[Bug 1383013] Re: Diodon on 14.10 does not clear history consistently

2014-10-28 Thread Oliver Sauder
Thanks that's good to know.

Most likely the error is in a library Diodon uses and not Diodon itself.

One library we use is that a service will notify Diodon when new items
are inserted or deleted. It seems that inserting items works but in some
cases Diodon doesn't get notified first time when items are being
deleted (resp. cleared).

Have to dive into the source code of the library as well to see what's
happening.

Thanks unfortunately there is not a single indication in the log
file that anything went wrong... weird.

Can you try the following as well when the bug occurs: After clearing
the history if the menu doesn't not update, copy another item to the
clipboard and check the clipboard menu again whether this content has
been added.

[Bug 1383013] Re: Diodon on 14.10 does not clear history consistently

2014-10-25 Thread Oliver Sauder
After analyzing it again there is most likely an error message logged by
Diodon when starting up when this error appears. As I am not able to
reproduce the bug do I really need a log file to see what exact error is
thrown.

I have done some testing and it is actually possible to change Diodon command
in the Startup Applications Preferences to the following:
bash -c G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all setsid /usr/local/bin/diodon
/home/user/diodon_debug.log

replace user with your username. Whenever Diodon is now started it will
log into diodon_debug.log. When the error occurs simply attach that log
file to this bug (log file is overwritten each time you startup your
machine again, so it won't grow to an infinite size...)

Thanks for your help.

2014-10-20 Thread Oliver Sauder
I haven't been able to reproduce this issue on my machine.

Can you therefore try to do the following:
* Close Diodon
* run diodon from the command line: G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all diodon
diodon_debug.txt
* let it run and occasionally clear history till the error occurs as you have
described it
* close Diodon straight away and attach diodon_debug.txt to this bug

Thanks,

[Bug 1383013] Re: Diodon on 14.10 does not clear history consistently

2014-10-20 Thread Oliver Sauder
Needs to be checked whether there is a race condition.

I think you should also be able to change your startup application command of
Diodon to
G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all diodon  diodon_debug.txt

you will have to give the txt file a full path e.g.
/home/username/diodon_debug.txt

Haven't tried this before but should technically work... maybe this way
you are able to reproduce the issue and with a debug log file.

I will have a closer look at the source code to see whether I find
anything which could cause this.

[Bug 1380631] Re: diodon doesn't save entries in history

2014-10-15 Thread Oliver Sauder
There is a reason why the backend has changed to zeitgeist. You can find
more information here http://esite.ch/2013/12/29/storing-clipboard-
items-infinitely-test-version/

First of all is it that we have implemented a infinitive clipboard history
which gives us the possibility for much better search capabilities. For now
there is a powerful Unity Scope integration but more to come on this front.
Implementing an infinitive clipboard history with the search capabilities
Zeitgeist offers is really hard to implement with XML and we would simply just
reinvent the wheel - so it is much easier to simply use a library which is
already out there and well tested.

Also in the end I do not see the difference between Zeitgeist and XML as
your data is stored either in a sqlite database or in a xml file on your
machine - the data has to be stored somewhere in the end.

As you have noted would we like to have a better integration as
explained in https://bugs.launchpad.net/diodon/+bug/1312704 and we are
working on this so the whole privacy settings make more sense.

For these reasons I mark this issue as Invalid.

What would be interested though what you mean with debconf hint? Any
samples you know of to see how this is accomplished?

I have checked this again on Ubuntu 13.10 with Thunderbird
1:24.4.0+build1-0ubuntu0 and seems to work as long as the network share
is connected through Nautilus already.

When I then go to attach I can choose the already connected network
share in the left Places panel.

What does not work is when a network share is not connected already it
will simply not appear in the dialog and cannot be chosen.

[Bug 1294201] [NEW] Uploading of backup to Ubuntu One fails with 400 Bad Request

2014-03-18 Thread Oliver Sauder
Public bug reported:

This issue seems to be similar to Bug #1161599 as such is fixed in 13.10
however it seems it is only partially fixed.

Problem is when using deja-dup resp. duplicity to backup up a large
amount of files to Ubuntu One. After a couple of minutes the backup
aborts with Giving up on request after 5 attempts, last status 400 Bad
Request. Before the bad request appears network usage indicates full
upload usage but after bad request appears nothing has been uploaded.

[Bug 1156936] Re: Diodon - missing scrollbars with large clipboard size

2013-11-15 Thread Oliver Sauder
I have checked this issue again with Ubuntu 13.10 and cannot reproduce
it anymore. Seems the Gtk issue is fixed.

Closing issue therefore for now. Please speak up though if you still see
this issue with Ubuntu 13.10 or newer.

[Bug 1251219] [NEW] Calendar flickers when changing date

2013-11-14 Thread Oliver Sauder
Public bug reported:

Issue:
When changing the day, month or year in the calendar, after a second it
flickers once. Seems like that the menu closes and reopens again very quickly.

Steps to reproduce:
* open calendar
* e..g. change month from November to December
* wait a second - datetime menu flickers

This seems to be an regression as I cannot recall the indicator having
this behavior in 13.04.

[Bug 1234551] Re: diodon crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_property_change()

2013-10-04 Thread Oliver Sauder
Hey Georg,

Thanks for reporting this. Did this segmentation fault happens once or
several times? If you can reproduce it, could you also attach the
storage.xml file stored in ~/.local/share/diodon/storage.xml just after
a crash?

That'd be great.

Oliver

[Bug 1204036] Re: [Regression]Mouse wheel to change volume stopped working on Saucy

2013-08-26 Thread Oliver Sauder
I assume it is probably related:
It is also not possible to middle mouse click on the sound icon to mute it
(works in raring but not in saucy). If this is not related I will open another
bug report.

[Bug 1004579] Re: [pbuilder-dist] overwrite OTHERMIRROR set in ~/.pbuilderrc

I guess another possibility would be to read pbuilderrc as well within
pbuilder-dist? So if the environment var is not set, check whether it is
set in pbuilderrc before then reading devscripts fallbacks.
