[Bug 217798] Re: tsclient should recognize Xephyr for XDMCP login
The arguments for Xephyr and Xnest appear to be mostly the same. The call that tsclient makes is: Xnest :1 -once -geometry 1024x768 -query 127.0.0.1 The equivalent Xephyr call is: Xephyr :1 -once -screen 1024x768 -query 127.0.0.1 I'd not be surprised if there are other parameters that tsclient sends with different options. This is not a fail. I think you misunderstand what serialize() does. The purpose is to encapsulate the content of an object - be it a string, array or class - and store it in a single string variable. The PHP manual says this about serialize(): Returns a string containing a byte-stream representation of value that can be stored anywhere. [Bug 297848] Re: Shared Folders Administration Tool does not show Nautilus Shares
After removing the tick box from the Nautilus sharing option and sharing the folder through the shares-admin tool, the folder is once again shared. Nautilus does not show that the folder is shared. Sharing the folder in Nautilus, while it is shared using shares-admin, results in a shared folder. Stopping the folder from being shared in Nautilus, while the folder is still shared in shares-admin results in the folder vanishing from the network. /etc/samba/smb.conf and shares-admin both show the folder as shared, but it's not visible. Reloading samba does not fix this problem. Resharing the folder in shares-admin results in the folder being available. The workgroup remains the same (WORKGROUP), even if it's changed in shares-admin. -- Shared Folders Administration Tool does not show Nautilus Shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The machines that you are having issues with, were they fresh hardy installs, upgrades, or a mixture? How are their network interfaces managed? Are they running Ubuntu, or Ubuntu-server? In re-reading this bug-report, I can see there are many issues that appear to affect this bug and the NTP server restarting several times during boot appears to be related to the several ways in which it's started. While not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, the aim was to get to a point after boot at which time ntpdate had succesfully run and NTP - if installed - was running. Erny, a better process I just bumped into is outlined here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/36849 In essence, you install the vmware-server-kernel-source package and build it for the new kernel, then install the resulting package. I cannot say if this will work for all future versions of the kernel -- I suspect not -- but it would be pretty safe to say that it will work for 2.6.22-* versions at least. I should point out it now appears that fixing this bug should be trivial, given that a package such as vmware-server-kernel-source exists -- something which I didn't know until about 10 minutes ago -- and that it does not appear to be dependent on VMware to actually do anything. Perhaps there is a dependency in the vmware-server package that hasn't been configured correctly to force the kernel modules to be built -- but that is outside my area of expertise. Of course, the kicker might be that this is known *not* to work for other kernel versions and that this bug is serving as a place-holder to fix that issue. (For kernels in Hardy and Intrepid.) I'm not sure that just returning the exit value will give you what you expect because in other patches we have identified that more and more init.d scripts are going to be running under a set -e environment where a non-zero return value terminates the script, so in your suggested patch, status $VERSION will terminate if the return value is non-zero, negating the purpose of exiting with a return value. [Bug 238444] [NEW] Index building for initial launch is overly complex
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: khelpcenter After installing khelpcenter to be able to read the taskjuggler manual and tutorial pages, the initial launch caused several windows to open which prompted for index rebuilding with check-boxes and confusing options. I'm lodging this as a khelpcenter bug, but it may turn out to be a taskjuggler bug. Personally, I think that the installation process should just rebuild all indices without requiring the user to either be aware of any such mystic things as what an index might do or provide. Alternatively, if an index is really only nice to have, then there should not be a prompt to provide this functionality and this should be a preference. In my opinion the Human Interface Guidelines many, many years ago (1995) said it best: A preference should be a setting that the user changes infrequently. If you provide choices to users that they will change many times in a work session, you should implement those choices in a menu or other interface element to which the user has easy, modeless access. By choosing the right way to implement a feature, you can give users the flexibility to choose, in their own language, their preferred method of working. ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Index building for initial launch is overly complex https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238444 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 49217] Re: Problem in FSCK checking Chinese filename (Big5)
I don't doubt that you can use a bad character in a Linux implementation. Also, the vfat module and dosfsck are not the same piece of software and both read from the drive in completely different ways. My point is that dosfsck is checking a FAT file system. The problem is not that these characters are allowed in some cases, but as I understand it, not in all cases - that is, under some code-pages those characters are not allowed. Trying to determine the correct code-page for the appropriate file-system is the real issue. Once that has been achieved, then determining which characters are bad for that code-page becomes rather more simple. Just arbitrarily allowing any old bad character defeats the process of actually checking the file system. -- Problem in FSCK checking Chinese filename (Big5) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49217 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 49217] Re: Problem in FSCK checking Chinese filename (Big5)
The chkdsk command is running with a specified code-page because it's running within DOS or Windows. I strongly suspect that you'll find that if you change the code-page, all kinds of nasty things will happen. Again, if you can provide an actual specification that indicates that these characters are allowed across *all* code-pages, then the patch you've suggested may be useful, but until such time I doubt that it will be adopted. -- Problem in FSCK checking Chinese filename (Big5) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49217 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 49217] Re: Problem in FSCK checking Chinese filename (Big5)
When you ran chkdsk you were running DOS or Windows. This means that a code-page is set for the operating system at that time. When you insert a USB disk, it is also running under that code-page. When you then run chkdsk it checks characters based on the current code-page. It has just occurred to me that until now I did not actually have access to a file-system that has bad characters on it and is by the look of things from a Non-US code-page. So, if you are in fact running a Non-US version of DOS/Windows, I'd appreciate it if you could create a dd-image of a small USB thumb-drive with some bad characters on it, so I could attempt some more testing. -- Problem in FSCK checking Chinese filename (Big5) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49217 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
