[Bug 1826152] [NEW] libh2o-evloop is not linked with wslay

2019-04-24 Thread Pieter Lexis
Public bug reported:

When attempting to link against the libh2o-evloop provided with Ubuntu
Bionic (2.2.4+dfsg-1build1) and Ubuntu Cosmic (2.2.5+dfsg1-6), the
linking step fails with the following errors:

```
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libh2o-evloop.so: undefined reference to
`wslay_event_want_read'
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libh2o-evloop.so: undefined reference to
`wslay_event_set_error'
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libh2o-evloop.so: undefined reference to
`wslay_event_recv'
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libh2o-evloop.so: undefined reference to
`wslay_event_context_free'
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libh2o-evloop.so: undefined reference to
`wslay_event_want_write'
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libh2o-evloop.so: undefined reference to
`wslay_event_send'
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libh2o-evloop.so: undefined reference to
`wslay_event_context_server_init'
```

According to this (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=908124) debian bug, it seems libh2o-evloop.so is
not linked with libwslay. Please pull in the patch from
Debian(https://sources.debian.org/patches/h2o/2.2.5+dfsg2-2/link-
against-wslay.patch/) to make libh2o-evloop usable again.

[Bug 1674532] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 broken during PXE boot

2017-03-21 Thread Pieter Lexis
This problem stems from the inclusion of the fix for CVE-2015-5180. The
internal number for A + changed in glibc (from T_UNSPEC=62321 to
T_QUERY_A_AND_=439963904).

In TCPDump, we see queries going out for TYPE62321 (the former internal
number for A+).

I think busybox uses the old symbols here?

[Bug 1555606] Re: Sync pdns-recursor 4.0.0~alpha2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-03-11 Thread Pieter Lexis
Hi Timo,

I'm Pieter Lexis, one of the PowerDNS developers.

> to provide more information about the upgrade

I'll chime in on the reason for this.

In the current state, the pdns-recursor package in Xenial is not fit for
production use (let alone inclusion in an LTS). Several of the issues
include:

 - Configuring forwarding results in SIGABRT (fixed in
https://github.com/pieterlexis/pdns/commit/88490c0365375978afea38bf352079b4fef28e17)
- RPZ and IXFR with TSIG is broken (fixed in
https://github.com/pieterlexis/pdns/commit/bd051ad662f10373bb8f3e13a55cbec3f6ebc91c
 and
https://github.com/pieterlexis/pdns/commit/f0ca9bcf2800bb31513283bbe9fa5d1e2b83dcf6)
- The cache would fill the memory with stale entries (fixed in
https://github.com/rgacogne/pdns/commit/2b94bb415eb33d909e064cadea06a7c2fcea7380)

Combined with the fact that DNSSEC validation has many broken
cornercases in Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 (but the Debian package has disabled
the validation as per our recommendation), we believe that the package
suggested is many times better than the package currently in Xenial.

We released this Alpha 2 because of the Ubuntu freeze, as Ubuntu
originally pulled in the Alpha 1 from Debian Sid. We contacted devel-
discuss, but got little response regarding our suggested solutions
(https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
discuss/2016-February/016183.html).

I hope this answers your questions regarding why we'd like a freeze
exception. The only other solution (in our eyes as upstream) is to have
Xenial revert to the Recursor 3.7.3, which might go EOL before Xenial
does.

Best regards,

Pieter Lexis

I can't find out why the behaviour is like this. It could be strange if
/bin/tar was using alternatives.. but it isn't. Any-one has an idea,
because removing bsdtar will leave you with a broken system if tar is
called unqualified (for a script or whatever). I would expect that
bsdtar used alternatives or that removing it wouldn't break the system.

[Bug 491311] Re: Kernel update does not invoke update-grub in lucid

2009-12-08 Thread Pieter Lexis
Interestingly, after the latest update of grub AND the kernel the menu
was updated, however, as i removed the older kernels the menu wasn't
updated. (contrast to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/470265/comments/35).
So it is possible that the problem is fixed either by the grub update or
the latest kernel. Or it's just a co-incidence.

Also, the problem is perhaps related to #470265, I however have not
updated any install. Also the problem isn't grub most likely, as running
the update manually will yield a correct menu and no errors.

- running update-grub solves this issue.

- I'm running grub2, this is however installed on the partition(/dev/sda6

windows 7. My primary installation(karmic) uses the mbr, the rest is
chainloaded(grub on partions), but this should not conflict with the post

[Bug 409575] Re: told ubiquity to install grub to sda6, but it breaks grub on mbr

2009-10-29 Thread Pieter Lexis
Confirmed for the kubuntu 9.10 release ISO.

I set ubiquity to install grub on /dev/sda6, as i had it already on my
MBR(regular ubuntu 9.10 install). However, the mbr was still
overwritten.

I fixed it by booting my regular ubuntu and did a grub-install. But an
installer should do as it's told. I haven't tried installing an older
ubuntu version to see if the bug is present there(according to Sam
Tygier it appears so).

Setting the partition(or disk) for grub is off course not for your
average joe, but this is quite a bug in the installer.

[Bug 86798] Re: r8169 driver does not detect link

2009-05-13 Thread Pieter Lexis
And as expected the r8168 driver from realtek works fine.

Downloadbunzip
sudo -i
make clean
make modules
make install
depmod -a

now blacklist r8169 in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

then
update-initramfs -u
reboot

Wired networking works as expected, now to make a script i have to run
every time the kernel gets updated..

[Bug 352734] Re: gedit error when using it as a root

2009-03-31 Thread Pieter Lexis
First of all

- What version of ubuntu are you using(from the kernel version you are using I
assume its intrepid)?
- Is this a normal install or have you installed seperate gnome packages?
- Is your gnome session working correctly?
- Do you execute this on a server via ssh where there are no gnome libs
available?

I cannot reproduce this problem locally on my machine(intrepid amd64).

[Bug 198899] Re: audacious cannot read from files with certain characters in the path or filename and has a high cpu load.

2008-06-07 Thread Pieter Lexis
it appears that this problem only occurs on xspf playlists. reloading one of
those doesn't play the file.
This is because audacious saves the ampersand characters in the playlist file:
locationfile:///media/music/Gamma%20Ray/Singles%20amp;%20EPs/(1997)%20Valley%20of%20the%20Kings/Gamma%20Ray%20-%2003%20Watcher%20in%20the%20Sky%20(Iron%20Savior%20Version).mp3/location

but the encoding is different... the spaces are URL encoded (%20) and
the ampersands are HTML encoded(amp;).

my theory:
When loading the playlist the ampersand isn't loaded. (thats why you cant vies
the track details, the path to the track doesn't point to a valid file)

how to fix.. i don't know.. I'll get the sources and compare them to the
ubuntu sources.. although I'm not a programmer

Confirmed for kernel version 2.6.24-16.
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI

This would be quite an issue when Harde is released since this is a
common chipset.

Some other info:
When I boot the laptop with an ethernetcable attached ethtool will tell me that
a link is detected.
After removing the cable ethtool will still report as being detected.
rmmod r8169  modprobe r8169
will show as link NOT detected, after plugging in cable link still isnt
detected.
When link is detected static routing doesn't work also.

My last comment was a bit to fast

The audacious-plugins-ugly has been discontinued for the audacious 1.4.5
release(http://audacious-media-player.org/index.php?title=Downloads)

as for crossfade: i don't use it so i cant comment on that. from what i
can see, crossfade is not implemented in the audacious-plugins package.

According to http://audacious-media-player.org/index.php?title=Plugins
this plug in is extra and can be found on http://www.eisenlohr.org/xmms-
crossfade/

If mentoring is available i want to(try) to package this plugin(i can do
it for myself with checkinstall, but that isn't redistributable.

[Bug 198899] [NEW] audacious cannot read from files with certain characters in the path or filename and has a high cpu load.

2008-03-05 Thread Pieter Lexis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacious

the error:

Unable to read from
file:///media/music/Gamma%20Ray/Singles%20%20EPs/(1997)%20Valley%20of%20the%20Kings/Gamma%20Ray%20-%2003%20Watcher%20in%20the%20Sky%20(Iron%20Savior%20Version).mp3,
giving up.

How to reproduce:
1. add any file to the playlist with an ampersand in the pathname.
2. Save as default list.
3. Play the file - that works
4. exit audacious
5. start audacious
6. play the file again - audacious starts spewing the error uses all cpu
recources.

The entry in the playlist.xspf:
locationfile:///media/music/Gamma%20Ray/Singles%20amp;%20EPs/(1997)%20Valley%20of%20the%20Kings/Gamma%20Ray%20-%2003%20Watcher%20in%20the%20Sky%20(Iron%20Savior%20Version).mp3/location

The character in the filename which isn't listed in the entry is an
ampersand(-character)

When did it start:
After updating audacious to the latest backported version in gutsy

Which versions are those:
audacious  1.4.5-1ubuntu1~gutsy1
audacious-plugins  1.4.4-1ubuntu1~gutsy1
audacious-plugins-extra  1.4.4-1ubuntu1~gutsy1
audacious-plugins-ugly  1.3.0-1
libaudacious5 1.3.2-4
libaudclient1 1.4.5-1ubuntu-1~gutsy1
libaudid3tag1 1.4.5-1ubuntu-1~gutsy1

probable cause:
audacious does not save the character in its playlists, maybe compiled with a
wrong flag?(i'm just guessing here, I'm no developer or maintainer) or wrong
encoding on my install of gutsy or in audacious?

solution:
1. don't use 's in filepaths
2. do ??? to fix audacious

** Affects: audacious (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

  6. play the file again - audacious starts spewing the error uses all cpu
recources.

  The entry in the playlist.xspf:

locationfile:///media/music/Gamma%20Ray/Singles%20amp;%20EPs/(1997)%20Valley%20of%20the%20Kings/Gamma%20Ray%20-%2003%20Watcher%20in%20the%20Sky%20(Iron%20Savior%20Version).mp3/location

  The character in the filename which isn't listed in the entry is an
  ampersand(-character)

  When did it start:
  After updating audacious to the latest backported version in gutsy

  Which versions are those:
  audacious  1.4.5-1ubuntu1~gutsy1
  audacious-plugins  1.4.4-1ubuntu1~gutsy1
  audacious-plugins-extra  1.4.4-1ubuntu1~gutsy1
  audacious-plugins-ugly  1.3.0-1
  libaudacious5 1.3.2-4
  libaudclient1 1.4.5-1ubuntu-1~gutsy1
  libaudid3tag1 1.4.5-1ubuntu-1~gutsy1

  probable cause:
- audacious does not save the character in its playlists, maybe compiled with a
wrong flag?(i'm just guessing here, I'm no developer or maintainer)
+ audacious does not save the character in its playlists, maybe compiled with a
wrong flag?(i'm just guessing here, I'm no developer or maintainer) or wrong
encoding on my install of gutsy or in audacious?

  solution:
  1. don't use 's in filepaths
  2. do ??? to fix audacious

[Bug 198899] Re: audacious cannot read from files with certain characters in the path or filename and has a high cpu load.

2008-03-05 Thread Pieter Lexis
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: audacious

  the error:

  Unable to read from

file:///media/music/Gamma%20Ray/Singles%20%20EPs/(1997)%20Valley%20of%20the%20Kings/Gamma%20Ray%20-%2003%20Watcher%20in%20the%20Sky%20(Iron%20Savior%20Version).mp3,
  giving up.

  How to reproduce:
  1. add any file to the playlist with an ampersand in the pathname.
  2. Save as default list.
  3. Play the file - that works
  4. exit audacious
- 5. restart audacious
+ 5. start audacious
  6. play the file again - audacious starts spewing the error uses all cpu
recources.
