[Bug 1924996] Re: package nagios4-common 4.4.6-2 failed to install/upgrade: installed nagios4-common package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-06-04 Thread Dan Reagan
Just adding a 'me too' on this. Upgraded from 20.10 -> 21.04 and
experienced the same issue with nagios4-cgi install error blocking
overall nagios4 install using the -2 packages currently in 21.04.
Downloaded and installed the -4 versions from Debian repo and all four
installed immediately and without error or warning. Upgraded install is
now running as expected.

[Bug 1915601] [NEW] Software application not launching after reboot. pycharm. ubuntu software, vs code display launch icon but then nothing happens

[Bug 1774632] Re: The symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf points to the wrong file by default

2020-12-20 Thread David Reagan
I just ran into this issue myself on 20.04. Specifically I was adding my
own internal nameserver to a vm.

@Ubfan, why is stub-resolv.conf the correct file?

The file that /etc/systemd/resolved.conf updates is
/run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf. As far as I can tell, the proper way
to update /etc/resolv.conf is via /etc/systemd/resolved.conf. So if I
want my changes to apply, then the /etc/resolv.conf link should point to
the file systemd actually changes.

Or is there a different method of updating what nameservers your
computer uses? If there is, why is systemd involved with resolv.conf at
all?

Anyway, I believe this is a bug. Fortunately not one that effects people
who don't know how to find the workarounds, but still a bug. I do hope
it eventually gets fixed.

[Bug 1318542] Re: One keystroke goes double when using groups.

2020-07-28 Thread David Reagan
Ran into this on a new install of Pop_OS 20.04.

I edited the menu entry via alacarte and set the command to be:

sh -c "DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS='' terminator"

That fixed it.

[Bug 1464103] [NEW] ls *[[:digit:]]? -- omits dir names in results

2015-06-10 Thread Rick Reagan
Public bug reported:

ls *[[:digit:]]?

The log will show that when there are one or more FILEs that satisfy the
mask in the same working directory as a DIR that satisfies this mask,
then there is no error in the results. But if there are no FILEs that
satisfy the mask in the same working directory as a DIR which satisfies
the mask, then the DIR name is omitted from the results.I would
expect to see the DIR name first, then on subsequent rows will be the
list of files in the DIR. However, the DIR row is omitted.Just
the rows listing the files are displayed.

First result (ls *[[:digit:]]? ):
file33

dir44
fileAfileBfileC
--
rm file33
--
Second result (ls *[[:digit:]]? ):
# dir44 is missing from this row
 #

working on installing the kernel version 3.18. Thanks you.

Re: [Bug 1381427] Re: [TOSHIBA Satellite C655D] suspend/resume failure

2014-10-22 Thread howard reagan
I installed 3.18 and when the restart had completed I had lost the
cursor. The unity launcher bar would change as I moved the mouse but I
could not see the pointer only an icon would initialize. I could not
move the pointer to make any selections so I restarted and selected 3.16
in the grub menu. I still have 3.18 installed but will have use 3.16 in
order to function for the present time.

Since I rise veery early the first thing I run is sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade and as you probably know already the update for the
kernel 3.16.23 was included in the daily updates and installed okay. I
still have not had the problem with logging on that was reported and you
wrote to me on Oct 21.

This probably is not much help to you but please let me know what I can
do next, okay?

It would be my pleasure to perform the test. I would like some
assistance so I do not mess up my installation if you would not mind. I
have replaced the kernel one other time and that was several versions
back. So if you would send me some current instructions, I will do the
test. I took a peek at this link and want to make sure I select the
version you have ask me to test. I have limited knowledge of obtaining
members or builds from this and it is always when I am tinkering. I
would prefer the test to be good for both of us, okay?

[Bug 1322431] Re: libsnmp-dev: Cannot create snmpv3 user with net-snmp-config command

2014-08-25 Thread David Reagan
The workaround in #4 works.

It would still be nice to get the bug fixed. I have some configuration
scripts that use net-snmp-create-v3-user. They work great on 12.04, but
14.04 doesn't work.

[Bug 1315590] [NEW] gdb Infinite recursion and SEGFAULT in cplus_demangle_print_callback

2014-05-02 Thread Reagan Sanders
Public bug reported:

gdb enters into an infinite recursion loop and segfaults while
attempting to load symbols from a binary. This appears to be related to
demangling certain symbol names in the debugged executable. This is 100%
reproducible.

This appears to be the same issues as
https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=14963 . All of the test
cases uploaded there trigger the crash. The most relevant examples are
cross-attached to this report.

Steps to reproduce:
$ g++ -std=c++11 -o test test.cpp
$ gdb test
GNU gdb (Ubuntu 7.7-0ubuntu3) 7.7
Copyright (C) 2014 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later http://gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html
snip
This GDB was configured as x86_64-linux-gnu.
snip
Reading symbols from test...Segmentation fault (core dumped)

[Bug 1261666] Re: [pulseaudio] module.c: Failed to load module module-echo-cancel (argument: aec_method=webrtc): initia lization failed.

2014-03-19 Thread Reagan Sanders
I believe Empathy does request whatever echo-cancellation filter PA has
available for VOIP calls.

Ultimately, this is somewhat of a chicken-and-egg problem - without a
decent echo-canceler within PA (and the speex implementation currently
available in PA doesn't really count), no one will write apps to use it.
The webrtc stuff has been in Debian stable for awhile now.

[Bug 1261666] Re: [pulseaudio] module.c: Failed to load module module-echo-cancel (argument: aec_method=webrtc): initia lization failed.

2014-01-14 Thread Reagan Sanders
While it is true that this will probably always be low demand, I think
many find that webrtc produces (subjectively) nicer sounding results
that the speex canceler. The difference in performance is especially
pronounced when the input and output sound devices do not share the same
clock source (such as when a USB mic is in use). Speex is known for not
handling the resync when the clocks drift too far out of alignment as
smoothly as webrtc does.

It would be nice to have some way of getting this functionality without
having to build from source or other work-arounds.

[Bug 1256158] [NEW] BCM4360 High packet loss at 5GHz

2013-11-28 Thread Reagan Sanders
Public bug reported:

I have an ASUS PCE-AC68 adapter (BCM4360 chipset), running under 13.10,
kernel 3.11.0-13-generic x86_64, bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.141+bdcom-
0ubuntu1. The AP supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac.

The card and adapter work perfectly when connected in the 2.4GHz band
and 5GHz low channels (36-48). When connecting at 5GHz high channels
(149-161), there are no obvious errors, but packet loss to the gateway
is extremely high (50-80%). This behavior is very bursty, alternating
between no, and total packet loss on a timescale ranging from a few
seconds to a few minutes.

Power management is off, and syslog/kern.log don't provide any useful
clues. Based on the observed pattern of the packet loss, and the
performance of other 5GHz devices connected to the same AP, I don't
think it is an interference issue.

I'm unsure as to how to proceed with generating some more useful
logging, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

[Bug 532137] Re: Wacom Intuos2 tablet hotplug only works once after booting

2013-10-23 Thread Reagan
Similar problem with Wacom Intuos2 9x12 tablet on Ubuntu 13.04. lsusb,
xinput and lsmod all see the tablet when hotplugged. Even the LED on the
tablet glows and changes color when the stylus is near it. However,
cannot get the mouse cursor to move. If the computer is rebooted with
the tablet connected, it works. It's quite an inconvenience to have to
reboot each time the tablet is connected and a fix would be much
appreciated.

[Bug 1208024] [NEW] Default rules fail to set PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY for vmwgfx driver

2013-08-03 Thread Reagan Sanders
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.04
175-0ubuntu26

The default 78-graphics-card.rules does not set
PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1 for devices using the vmwgfx driver (from
the open-vm-tools package). Several other drm subsystem drivers are
special-cased here (i915, radeon, nouveau). This causes a misleading
failure message in the boot log, such as:

* Starting load fallback graphics devices
[ FAIL ]

caused by /etc/init/udev-fallback-graphics.conf erroneously trying to
modprobe vesafb because it thinks that no graphics driver has been
successfully loaded. The VM does still function properly, this bug just
causes a spurious error message.

Adding a rule for vmwgfx similar to what already exists for other
drivers fixes the issue.

Example of others experiencing this issue:

[Bug 1123460] Re: verify-signature crashes on non ascii characters

2013-07-28 Thread Reagan Sanders
A test branch with an export of the UTF-8-containing public key used to
sign it included. The public key needs to be in your keyring for bzr to
be able to get the pretty name and thus exercise the UTF-8 code path.
Similarly, you also have to be able to verify all the signing keys in
order to exercise the failing --verbose code path.

[Bug 1035000] [NEW] libapache2-mod-shib2 will not install

When installing libapache2-mod-shib2 on 11.10 for the first time, I get the
following:

==

It sounds like this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/shibboleth-sp2/+bug/884402 which was fixed in shibboleth-sp2 - 2.4.3
+dfsg-2ubuntu1. But that package is not available for 11.10. According
to packages.ubuntu.com it is available for 12.04, but I can't upgrade to
that yet.

Following the instructions from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shibboleth-sp2/+bug/884402/comments/6
allowed me to install with this output:
===
reagand@ws-dev-www-01:~$ sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-shib2

So, apparently, the problem is fixed in 12.04, but still broken on

Which looks exactly like this bug to me, except it's on a new install,
not an upgrade. I thought it was fixed...

So, is this the same bug, or do I need to file a new bug/find help
elsewhere?

[Bug 880185] [NEW] mount double-free on tmpfs with selinux

2011-10-22 Thread Reagan Sanders
Public bug reported:

Release: 11.10
Package: mount 2.19.1-2ubuntu3

Expected: Normal tmpfs mount.

Actual:

During boot, mount dies due to a double-free while attempting to mount
/run/lock. This sounds extremely similar to this (solved) fedora issue.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=707035

Despite the crash, the mount appears to succeed and operate as normal.

I've attached the boot log, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to
capture more meaningful debug info due to when the error is taking
place.

[Bug 508615] [NEW] videos have lots of tearing

2010-01-16 Thread David Reagan
Public bug reported:

I've been having this problem for, probably, years now. When I am
watching videos, they will 'tear'. As in a horizontal line will appear
like two frames are being shown on different parts of the screen.
Hopefully you know what I mean, since that was a bad description...

I just found this description of tearing:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Glossary?action=showredirect=X/CommonErrors#What
is Tearing? Though it doesn't say how to fix it...

This has been happening at least since 9.04. I don't have compiz effects
turned on. It doesn't seem to matter what format the videos are in,
flash, avi, mkv, and mp4 all do it. It's been a while since I tried, but
I believe it happens in both totem and vlc. I mainly use smplayer, so it
definitely happens there.

Graphics card is an integrated GeForce 8200. NVIDIA driver 185.18.36.

I've tried switching the the output driver smplayer uses to all the different
gl options, as well as xv.
I've tried ideas from these topics:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7950332postcount=2
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7781484#post7781484

I've tried to get help on the forums here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1368653

I am currently using Karmic 64bit.

Any suggestions? I haven't found anything more when I've search
launchpad or the forums.

Thanks.

[Bug 321756] [NEW] Screen dims when it is not supposed to

2009-01-26 Thread David Reagan
Public bug reported:

My screen dims every 5-10 minutes. It is supposed to never dim.

In System-Preferences-Power Management I've checked and unchecked the
Dim display when idle box in both tabs multiple times. I also have
checked them and restarted, and then unchecked them. Didn't help.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 on a Sony Vaio VGN FE-880E.

Please ask for any information that would help.

Mark,

Sorry for the late reply!!!

It appears that the errors you are experiencing are coming from the
graphics drivers. I was unable to replicate the bug, but you might try
a different graphics drivers. The new version of Stellarium may have
hit a bug in the process, a bug with the graphics drivers.

from what i can tell, if wubi creates the swap.disk on a compressed
partition, windows will also compress that file,
and THAT causes (at least to me) all the problems during the main ubuntu
 install

so i disabled the windows drive compression from C: drive properties
and i ran again wubi and it all worked fine.

A how-to recreate this bug would be great. I can't think of a log

[Bug 234513] [NEW] orange ubuntu progress bar disappears and console appears halfway through booting and shutting down...

2008-05-24 Thread Reagan
Public bug reported:

While booting and shutting down, the orange ubuntu progress bar disappears and
console text begins to scroll...
It would be a lot more aesthetically pleasing not to see the console text and
see only the orange progress bar...
I'm running a fully updated version of Hardy Heron with desktop effects
enabled...
I'm sorry but i'm new to Ubuntu and don't know which package this bug falls
under...

2008-05-19 Thread Reagan

I use a wireless network at home, and everything works fine till there is a
power cut and the wireless signal is lost...
Once the power is back and the wireless signal is restored, Ubuntu refuses to

connect to it again... Even loggin off and on doesn't help...
I'm running a fully updated version of Hardy Heron...

[Bug 107969] Re: Please add a graphic equalizer in rhythmbox

2008-05-18 Thread Reagan
I totally agree... Every repectable music player just has to have an
equalizer...
I really don't see where the developers of Rhythmbox are headed, with it being
the default music player and manager of Ubuntu, but without an equalizer... It
is small glitches like this that make Ubuntu unattractive to new people...

[Bug 194212] [NEW] [Feature Freeze Exception]OpenProj

2008-03-07 Thread Jon Reagan
Public bug reported:

OpenProj is a project manager application, much like Microsoft Project.
It uses Java (or similar runtime) to run. It is built by the good folks
at Projity, Inc., and is released under an Open Source license. I have
been working with the OpenProj developer for the past two months to get
this application ready for the Ubuntu repositories.

I have submitted this bug as a Feature Freeze Exception, mainly because
I believe this application can bring added value to the Ubuntu
repositories. OpenProj is a full-featured product, and even has more
functionality than Microsoft Project. OpenProj would add a professional
project management application to the repositories. The software is a
new package, and is currently in REVU, and has been through testing to
ensure that it builds. The program so far has not been reviewed.

I have been working to enter the application in the repositories, so I
am prepared to do all of the necessary work. I have also received
support from a fellow launchpad member, who wanted to see OpenProj make
it into the Ubuntu repositories.
