[Bug 1007439] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS fails to install on XenServer 6.0.2
I have three servers running XenServer 6.0.2. Two are Dell PowerEdge R815 servers and one is a Dell PowerEdge 2950. The 2950 has an Intel Xeon 5130 processor and the R815 servers each have four AMD Opteron 6274 processors. I see David that your R715 has an AMD processor. I created a virtual machine running Ubuntu 12.04 on the 2950 and it works fine. Now I have new questions. Is the AMD Opteron 6274 processor the reason I can't install Ubuntu 12.04 on XenServer 6.0.2? [Bug 136412] Re: Dell Vostro 1700, ich8 no sound
I downloaded alsa-driver 1.0.14 and ran the snddevices script included with it. This generated all the sound devices I think I need but still sound doesn't work. [Bug 136412] Re: Dell Vostro 1700, ich8 no sound
Before compiling alsa-driver 1.0.15rc3 I decided to look more closely about what is wrong with alsa-driver 1.0.14 since it did partially work with a stock Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5. Staying current with the packages has broken sound support. It originally worked by producing sound only through the headphone jack and not through the speakers. It's interesting to find these kernel modules loaded, which I believe is corrrect. $ lsmod | grep hda_intel snd_hda_intel 337192 0 snd_pcm94344 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss snd69288 10 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device snd_page_alloc 11920 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm The thing that is clearly missing are the devices. $ ls -l /dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/sequencer /dev/midi ls: /dev/dsp: No such file or directory ls: /dev/mixer: No such file or directory ls: /dev/midi: No such file or directory crw-rw 1 root audio 14, 1 2007-09-29 10:46 /dev/sequencer The instructions at the URL below make it clear that if I have devfs then I don't need to create those devices. http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-hda-intel NB: If you are using drivers before 0.9.4 then you need to run: ./snddevices The snddevices script sets the permissions for the devices it creates to root. If you use devfs then you should not run the snddevices script. Otherwise run: chmod a+rw /dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/sequencer /dev/midi Now it is clear that Gutsy Gibbon doesn't use devfs as it has been replaced by udev. I guess that udev and alsa-driver 1.0.14 don't work together well because the latter depends on devfs. I will next create those devices that udev doesn't and see if sound works. -- Dell Vostro 1700, ich8 no sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 108589] Ubuntu 7.04 fails to install on JFS filesystem
Public bug reported: Installation of Ubuntu 7.04 to a JFS '/' filesystem fails consistently under test environment. The installer fails while "Copying files" or "Configuring system". These titles may not be exactly right. To reproduce this experiment install qemu-0.9.0. Use qemu-img to construct a 5 GB unencrypted uncompressed qcow2 image. Boot ubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso. Use either the Manual tool for creating partitions integrated with the installer or GNOME Partition Editor from the System menu to construct a JFS partition at /dev/hda1, an Extended partition at /dev/hda2 and a Logical partion for swap at /dev/hda5. Formatting '/' with 'jfs_mkfs' is optional and does not affect the outcome. Begin the installation. At some point the installer will fail to make any forward progress despite many hours of waiting. The point at which the installer fails to progress varies. Testing the installer using all the default options resulted in an ext3 '/' partition which installs and works perfectly under the same test environment. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Ubuntu 7.04 fails to install on JFS filesystem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
