[Bug 905764] [NEW] Subs are included even though none are selected

2011-12-17 Thread ShadowTek
Public bug reported:

I'm getting subtitles included in my output files even though I don't
select any to be used. This only happens with certain files (seems like
it's always mkvs).

You can add the '-nosub' switch to work around the problem.
Devede > Add > Advanced Options > Misc > Extra parameters for Mencoder > Main >
-nosub

Tried both 3.16.9-0ubuntu3 and 3.17.0-0ubuntu2 with the same results.

[Bug 584894] Re: Grabbing of Window Classes doesn't work in 'Place windows - Fixed window placement'

2011-02-04 Thread ShadowTek
Holy Jesus Christ dude, last night I stumbled into the "class=" with the
window-brightness trap described in the last post, and it took me an
hour and a half to figure out what the hell to do. The only remedy that
I found was to `gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz` , which
resets all Compiz settings.

Something needs to be done with this ASAP. If an average, unskilled user
runs into this problem and can't figure out how to fix it, it basically
bricks Ubuntu for them.

[Bug 710918] [NEW] Music still plays after --nosound is given.

2011-01-31 Thread ShadowTek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tuxmath

Giving the --nosound option works as expected until after a lesson has
been completed. Then, upon returning to the menu screen, the menu music
begins playing, but there are no navigational sound effects. When
returning to a lesson/game, all sound stops again as expected. The music
always plays when returning to menu-screen thereafter.

[Bug 707288] [NEW] `dd` does not move files to "the Trash"

2011-01-24 Thread ShadowTek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vifm

vifm-help.txt states:
"dd - the default setting is to move the selected files to the trash
directory. "

`dd` doesn't move files the "the" Trash directory, it moves files to *a* trash
directory; specifically, "/.vifm/Trash/", which I didn't even learn until I ran
strace.

If it isn't desirable, for whatever reason, to move files to "the" trash
directory, I think the man page should at least note this difference.

[Bug 320330] Re: Getting incoming network connection attempts hours after Azureus is closed

2009-09-15 Thread ShadowTek
This is normal behaviour from what I've seen. You IP remains floating
around on on trackers and DHT nodes for a long time, and that's just the
way torrent networks behave.

First, try disabling DHT.

If that's not enough, I think the only thing that you can do is to avoid
swarms with large numbers of peers. If you see several torrents that
offer the same content, stick with the one that has the lowest tolerable
amount of peers. That will reduce the number of people that are trying
to connect to you at any given time.

[Bug 404602] [NEW] Man page says default fir for slrnrc should be HOME, but it isn't.

2009-07-25 Thread ShadowTek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: slrn

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 Desktop, with slrn 1.0.0~pre2-1.

The man page makes several references to the default dir for slrnrc as
being HOME, but that wasn't where it was looking.

>From the man page:
/
" -i config-file
Read file as the initialization (slrnrc) file. The default is to
use .slrnrc (or slrn.rc on VMS, OS/2 and Windows) in your home directory."

"SLRNHOME
When interpreting filenames as relative to your home directory,
slrn uses this variable to find out what your home directory is. If $SLRNHOME
is unset, $HOME is used instead."

" $HOME/.slrnrc
  User-specific configuration file."
/

When I first started slrn, it said:
...
   Reading startup file /etc/news/slrn.rc.
...

I then started slrn with the "-i" switch to use the file that was actually in
$HOME, and the result was:
...
   Reading startup file /etc/news/slrn.rc.
   Reading startup file slrn.rc.
...

So now it's trying to read from 2 files? lol

I thought that maybe the use of the file in the root-owned /etc/ dir
would be an intentional security move, but if the default permissions
still allow non-root users to read the file, including passwords stored
in it, then what good is it for security purposes?

Anyway, I just went ahead and started using the file in /etc/news/, and
there's no problems with that.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I tried setting SLRNHOME=$HOME in
.bashrc, but that had no effect on where slrn was looking for slrnrc.
