[Bug 1530523] Re: kcm_driver_manager: Infinitely shows Collecting information

2016-07-20 Thread Shaikailash
Hello. I just installed Kubuntu 16.04 and I have the same problem. That's quite
bad since drivers are necessary to run wifi card and graphic card.
The command "sudo update-apt-xapian-index" is not found.
Thanks.

[Bug 1047913] Re: muon returns error because cannot display license windows

2012-09-09 Thread Shaikailash
It happened just yesterday with the Java package, I cannot know if other
users are affected, I have a freshly installed distro so I supposed this
is a common bug. I don't know how to reproduce it, I would need a
package with a license to be updated.

[Bug 1047913] [NEW] muon returns error because cannot display license windows

2012-09-08 Thread Shaikailash
Public bug reported:

When an update is available in Muon, sometimes it returns an error
because it is not able to show the popup-windows where the user must
accept/decline the terms of license. For example the JAVA package. This
is a quite serious issue for newbies users, so I think it should be
addressed as soon as possible by Kubuntu's developers.

The workaround is easy too, but not available to mass public. In the terminal,
type:
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get upgrade
or
- sudo apt-get -f install

[Bug 326555] Re: Please package flashplugin 64bit

2011-10-27 Thread Shaikailash
Absolutely right Corey, you got the point which seems missing in the official
view.
To add the partner repository and look for adobe-flashplugin IS NOT AN
USER-FRIENDLY SOLUTION!
We cannot even advice user to install the extras packages because it will
install flash-plugin 32 bits!
Again, if you want to be user-friendly, 64 bit users must have only one
package, 64bit, in the default repos.

P.S. Description of the two packages are also outdated. They still
refers to Firefox 3I can assure you that many users are experiencing
difficulties with this flash issue (which could be a non-issue, in the
end...).

2011-07-11 Thread Shaikailash
Same bug on Kubuntu 11.04 64bit, all updated, no external ppa, only official

Bypassed with this workaround:

- start GIMP once
- set GTK theme back to oxygen-gtk
- GIMP now works with oxygen-gtk, too

[Bug 190664] Re: [XPS M1530] Wireless don't work (need to use 'noapic' kernel boot param)

2010-06-13 Thread Shaikailash
I have a Dell xps 1530, Kubuntu 10.04 freshly installed and updated, and after
a while it started to give again this problem.
On the boot, before the splash logo, I get 20-30 seconds of repeated messages
like:

iwl3945 :0b:00.0: MAC is in deep sleep!
iwl3945 :0b:00.0: MAC is in deep sleep!
iwl3945 :0b:00.0: MAC is in deep sleep!
iwl3945 :0b:00.0: MAC is in deep sleep!
iwl3945 :0b:00.0: MAC is in deep sleep!

and so on..then it sometimes freeze and I have to manually shutdown, or
sometimes it boots well. The card then it works randomly, sometimes yes,
sometimes no.
I'm not the only one with this problem, it seems by reading the forums.

[Bug 551013] Re: ubuntu-logo on VGA fb (as with nvidia or fglrx binary drivers) does not display crisply

2010-05-12 Thread Shaikailash
The fix didn't fix fully the problem on kubuntu 10.04 64bit. Now the screen is
at 1024*768 (or something similar), but it still ugly on a 1440*900 panel for
example.
I think that manual workaround cannot be considered a solution for the mass
public, which can fix it only through an official update from the ubuntu repo.
Is something more coming or that's all?

[Bug 350972] Re: Packages requiring debconf interaction fail to install (Sun Java, etc)

2010-05-04 Thread Shaikailash
Kubuntu 10.04 64bit, fresh install.

Kpackagekit fails to install sun-java6 packages, after having added the
repository partner (I cannot understand why they moved java
outside..when they know perfectly well that openJdk crashes every
two seconds.)

However, Kpackage was not able to download the file, and interrupted the
installation. I had to use Synaptic to fix the broken package and complete the
installation.
Good work

[Bug 551290] Re: plymouth theme ugly on binary nvidia driver

2010-05-03 Thread Shaikailash
I don't know why it has been fixed and how...???
We cannot ask every single user to follow a workaroundunthinkable.
The fix must come (and quickly, because it's a mess for the marketing of
Kubuntu) from the OFFICIAL REPOSITORY.

The bug is confirmed on Kubuntu 64bit freshly installed, Nvidia 8600M GT
and official drivers in hardware drivers manager.

Same pattern:
- as long as NVidia proprietary drivers are not installed, Plymouth is fine.
- as soon as NVIdia proprietary drivers get installed, Plymouth becomes ugly

[Bug 465422] Re: amarok crashed with SIGSEGV in start_thread()

2009-11-01 Thread Shaikailash
After a lot of crashes and problems, I decided to format and make a fresh
installation of Kubuntu 9.10. Now it works really well without any problem, a
completely different system.
I could say that the real bug is the upgrade from a previous version to a new
release, it's always like this with problem for almost every user.
My advice is to do only one release a year, and fix in a better way all the
problem.

2009-07-23 Thread Shaikailash
Same problem, kubuntu 64 bit 9.04

I have a proposal in order to solve forever this big problem with the kernel
update and the Grub. Normal users are not able to choose on of the 5-6 choice
available, it could be easier if the grub would be automatically updated,
mantaining the eventually windos/other OS present and the last kernel before
the update (in case of problem).
It would be easier and user-friendly!

[Bug 326555] Re: Please package flashplugin 64bit

2009-06-02 Thread Shaikailash
I have tried everything, from the official latest release of flash
plugin from Adobe website , to the flashplugin-nonfree of the repository
(that it's the same version10.0.22.87).

I use Kubuntu 9.04 64bit.
Firefox installed from repo, latest version 3.0.10.

When I am seeing a flash video in firefox sometimes the video flash become of
grey colour and I have to reload the web page to see again the flash video (and
of course to reload it again -.-)
I actually don't know if it's an issue related to firefox or to flash itself.

This is a common issue, many 64bit users have it! Flash is actually a necessary
element of every computer, it's quite hard this problem.
Thank you

[Bug 124283] Re: Keyboard doesn't work after disable AccessX triggers

2009-03-27 Thread Shaikailash
I don't know how to update this bug, howeverit's still with us!!!

I have Kubuntu 8.10, fresh installed, updated, kde 4.1and it
happende exactly the same thing, after some popups about the
accessibility keys, my keyboard stopped to work.

I solved going into Control panel Accessibility and by setting back
all the default options. Then, before save, in the tab Activating
Gestures tou have to unckeck the option Use gestures to activate the
sticky keys.

I think this is really a bad bug:
- normal users don't know what it happened, and I hope for them they have
another operative system on the machine.
- imagine this in an enterprisewith people who have to work...total panic
- I have asked for this on two forums (one is ubuntuforums) and nobody helped
me. Luckily i googled and searched this old bug
In conclusion, three days without my operative system, luckily I have windows
ready.
Fix it!

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: kde

When some AccessX key combos are triggered, like pressing SHIFT 5 times or
more, kde shows a pop-up window asking for a decision.
The message is targeted to users with acessibility problems and has the
option to disable the trigger, enale the AccessX, etc.
But after disable the AccessX shortcuts, keyboard just stop working on KDE
session. It works on KDM and console.
If I remove the .kde folder (a quite drastic measure, I know) the keyboard
works again.
If I disable the triggers into KControl, (Regional Accessibility -
Activating Gestures - unckeck the option Use gestures to activate the sticky
keys and low keys ), everything works fine and no problem with keyboard.
The problem has been verified in two different machines.

  I'm using Kubuntu 7.04 , KDE 3.5.6 and kernel 2.6.20-15-generic

  Thanks in advance,

  Jeandreh.
+
+ EDIT: This bug is on Kubuntu Intrepid 8.10 too, and users have their
+ systems unusable without any apparent reason, just saying NO to the
+ popups about accessibility. Fix it!!!

Hi. I've Kubuntu 8.10 64bit, freshly installed (no upgrade from previous

My machine is a laptop, dell xps m1530.
No external drivers, the only driver I'm using is Nvidia 180.22 installed
manually running the package from the Nvidia website.
- I've just update my kernel from 2.6.27-11 to 2.6.27-12 as Adept have notified
me...and now when I reboot I have this problem: after a quick loading of the
kubuntu logo, on the black screen appears something like this:

- then nothing. Just ctrl+alt+del (it remember me of windows...) and reboot
with the old kernel, luckily I still have it.
- I really can't understand why they update so often the kernel when there is
the risk (real, as seen) to have an unbootable system after an update. I think
of the normal-medium user who want to try linux as a stable system. I think
this is quite worrying.
+ EDIT: exactly the same message appears with the new kernel 2.6.27-13
+
+ then nothing. Just ctrl+alt+del (it remember me of windows...) and reboot
with the old kernel, luckily I still have it.
+ I have removed my proposed repository now, to avoid I hope this problem, but
I think to report this bug is important.
  Thank you

[Bug 331049] [NEW] 2.6.27-12 booting error

2009-02-18 Thread Shaikailash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-headers-2.6.27-12

Hi. I've Kubuntu 8.10 64bit, freshly installed (no upgrade from previous
version). I have kde 4.1.4.
My machine is a laptop, dell xps m1530.
No external drivers, the only driver I'm using is Nvidia 180.22 installed
manually running the package from the Nvidia website.
I've just update my kernel from 2.6.27-11 to 2.6.27-12 as Adept have notified
me...and now when I reboot I have this problem: after a quick loading of the
kubuntu logo, on the black screen appears something like this:

*Checking battery state...
/dev/xxx:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)

then nothing. Just ctrl+alt+del (it remember me of windows...) and reboot with
the old kernel, luckily I still have it.
I really can't understand why they update so often the kernel when there is the
risk (real, as seen) to have an unbootable system after an update. I think of
the normal-medium user who want to try linux as a stable system. I think this
is quite worrying.
Thank you

[Bug 221145] [NEW] Hardy 64bit freeze after Running local boot scripts

2008-04-23 Thread Shaikailash
Public bug reported:

Hi, Yesterday I've installed Kubuntu Hardy 64bit on my Dell XPS M1530,
using the RC version, live cd. I've done the updates released in these
days, and everything works perfectly. But today I have a problem
booting.

Kubuntu starts, I see the Kubuntu loading bar, but then appears the black
screen with some :
Starting K display manager KDM [OK]
...
...
..
..
until this:
Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local) [OK]

Then nothing, everything remains the same.

At this point, if I press ctrl+alt+F1, F2 until F6, I can do a shell
login, then write startx and the desktop loads well. But, obviously,
this is a very bad problem and need to be fixed.

uname -a
Linux xxx-xxx 2.6.24-16-generic #1 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Ask me if you need other infos.
Thank you

[Bug 210768] Re: Intel Corporation 82801H Audio doesn't work on kernel 2.6.24-12

2008-04-05 Thread Shaikailash
it doesn't work, says:
sudo: ./alsa-info.sh: command not found

I've downloaded the file from http://hg.alsa-project.org/alsa/raw-
file/tip/alsa-info.sh is ok?

Update: yesterday hardy release the last kernel, 2.6.24-15, but nothing
changes. I'm wondering if it could be a problem of software or activation of
the microphone. How can i check this?
Other dell xps 1530 have the same problem?

[Bug 210768] [NEW] Intel Corporation 82801H Audio doesn't work on kernel 2.6.24-12

2008-04-02 Thread Shaikailash
Public bug reported:

Hi have a notebook Dell xps M1530, I'm using KUBUNTU 8.04, all updated.
The problem is about this Audio card:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)

The internal microphone doesn't work.
The manual for the 7.10 says to install manually the alsa drivers 1.0.16, but
on hardy this doesn't fix it. The problem seems related to the last kernel
2.6.24-12 but, well, of course I don't think the solution is to downgrade...

Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you.

2008-04-01 Thread Shaikailash
No, the problem is still up because the microphone doesn't work for me. It
seems that with the last kernel upgrade the microphone doesn't work again!!
The last kernel is 2.6.24-12
I have alsa-base installed from repo 1.0.16, and i tried to compile it too.
Any ideas?

[Bug 187406] Re: [hardy] Amarok install-mp3 fails silently

2008-03-09 Thread Shaikailash
So, I have just installed the kubuntu hardy 32bit alpha 5 and the problem is
still here.
I can't believe this goes up since the 7.04 and never solvedI fix it simply
installing the libxine1-ffmpeg but it's so a bad presentation for all the
friends who try the first time ubuntu, and find always this problem.

Please, fix it in the next release!

[Bug 173768] Re: The module Monitor Display could not be loaded.

2008-02-29 Thread Shaikailash
I had the same problem too...kubuntu hardy fresh installed.
I have a laptop, dell xps M1530, nvidia geforce M 8600 GT, i have used the
restricted drivers and it works, but cannot change resolutions, and so on..

I tried to add the line in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and now it seemes to
works. Could be helpful:

Section ServerLayout
Identifier Default Layout
Screen Default Screen
InputDevice Generic Keyboard
InputDevice Configured Mouse
EndSection

Thank you
