[Bug 71030] Re: Lock Screen blanks screen instead of showing screensaver (on external monitor)

2010-02-17 Thread SkullBurner
Hi, I have noticed following behavior regarding gnome-screensaver and
gnome-power-manager on my laptop.
If I switch from internal display to external one and then close the lid of the
laptop then screensaver only shows blank screen instead of selected theme. If I
open the lid while screensaver is still on then the selected screensaver theme
is activated and stays on after I close the lid. If I stop the screensaver by
moving mouse and let it start again while lid is closed only blank screen is
activated. Also Gnome-Power-manager doesn't switch off external display after
the idle time set in the parameters, the external display stays always on if I
close the lid of the laptop or/and I switch off internal display. There must be
some logic in gnome-screensaver and gnome-power-manager that looks if laptop
internal screen is off or if the lid is closed and then it does not activate
screensaver or DPMS features because they are not needed. Problem is that if
one uses external display with internal laptop display swithced off or lid
closed screensaver should be activated and DPMS should still work for external
display. I think gnome-screenasver and gnome-power-manager code should be
changed to become aware of the display that is being used and if the external
display is used they should ignore on/off status of internal display or lid
position.
I have noticed that if I switch the internal display to external display while
my laptop lid is closed and after external display is activated then I kill
gnome-screensaver and start it again then screensaver is working properly on
external display despite the fact that laptop lid is closed. I have tried same
procedure with gnome-power-manager but it doesn't help with it.

I use ubuntu 9.10 on Samsung Q35 laptop.

[Bug 500788] [NEW] Bigger size animated gif produce huge memory leak in Nautilus

2009-12-27 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I used byzanz gnome applet to record small screencast. It produced an
2.5MB big animated gif file. If I select this file in Nautilus it uses
up whole memory in short time and starts swapping which makes whole
desktop unresponsive. I must kill nautilus process to stop the memory
leak.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10, Nautilus Version is 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3

[Bug 482255] Re: tuxonice userui is not working

2009-12-24 Thread SkullBurner
I am using the Karmic Kernel from tuxonice ubuntu repository version is
2.6.31-18.54+tuxonice1. I use tuxonice-userui version
1.0+svn1081-0ubuntu1~karmic1. I still can't use keyboard during
hibernation process. For me tuxonice-userui was also not working in
textmode until I have applied the pm-utils hook.

[Bug 482255] Re: tuxonice userui is not working

2009-12-19 Thread SkullBurner
Now I have figured out how to apply the debdiff and here is my report:

In my karmic installation of pm-utils there is no 98-smart-kernel-video
file in /etc/pm/sleep.d. There are only two files: 10_grub-common and
10_unattended-upgrades-hibernate and a symlink named action_wpa. I have
downloaded pm-utils-1.2.5.zip from the pm-utils git repository and
copied all the files from the archives pm/sleep.d directory in my
/etc/pm/sleep.d directory and applied your patch for 98-smart-kernel-
video.

After that I have applied the debdiff and I have made new tuxonice-
userui package and installed it.

Now tuxonice-useui is showing but sometimes it is almost completely
faded out so that I can't see almost anything, only if I bring my LCD
screen in the distance of about 2 cm to my eyes I can see that status is
reported. Could it be somehow changed so that usplash screen remains in
full saturated white color when tuxonice is performing hibernate and
restore?

Thank you Whoopie!

[Bug 489765] Re: xrandr plugin makes xrandr behave wrongly

2009-11-29 Thread SkullBurner
I have now reverted my gnome-settings-daemon version to 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
and it behaves like this:

If I connect external monitor to my laptop nothing happens, if I run
xrandr -q command or open display settings applet it restores my last
configuration which I have used with external monitor connected. If I
boot the system with external monitor connected after logging in GDM it
switches xrandr configuration to last configuration used with external
monitor.

In version is 2.28.1-0ubuntu2:

If I connect external monitor to my laptop nothing happens, if I run
xrandr -q command or open display settings applet it switches external
monitor on together with internal monitor in side by side configuration.
If I boot the system with external monitor connected after logging in
GDM both monitors stay switched on in mirrored mode.

I prefer the behavior of the version 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 because it is more
flexible and lets user decide more, besides that new behavior crashes my
x-server because it switches to side by side configuration when external
monitor is connected and this crashes my xserver when compiz is
activated. So I think it is not bug but the behavior was changed by
developers, it would be nice when there could be more user configuration
options for xrandr plugin.

I don't know why external monitor is not detected by gnome-settings-
daemon when it is connected is it perhaps graphic driver or X11 problem,
should I report it there?

Thanks for your help!

[Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display is black, external monitor too, with frozen mouse coursor

2009-11-29 Thread SkullBurner
I can confirm this problem on my laptop with Intel GMA 945 on ubuntu
9.10. If I connect external monitor and set up both monitors on in side
by side configuration X11 crashes. Mouse cursors are displayed on both
monitors but system is not responsive, keyboard and mouse don't work so
nothing can be done but switch off the laptop by pressing the power
button, all other display combinations work. In prior versions of ubuntu
I had no such problem.

It is very huge problem for me because the new version of gnome-
settings-daemon 2.28.1-0ubuntu2 automatically switches external monitor
on together with internal monitor in side by side configuration when
display settings application is started or when xrandr command is run
and this side by side configuration crashes the system.

feature then a bug.

So I have marked this bug as invalid.

[Bug 489765] [NEW] xrandr plugin makes xrandr behave wrongly

2009-11-28 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

When xrandr plugin for gnome-settings-daemon is activated it causes wrong
xrandr behavior. When I connect external monitor to my laptop and then call
xrandr -q in terminal it reports connected monitor properties but also
activates external monitor together with internal monitor. This is wrong
behavior xrandr -q should only report modes and connected monitors and perform
no further action. It also causes compiz to crash my system because it always
crashes when I activate both monitors one left or right to another, but this is
another bug.
If I deactivate xrandr plugin then xrander command behaves as it should.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10, gnome-settings-daemon version is
2.28.1-0ubuntu2.

[Bug 489765] Re: xrandr plugin makes xrandr behave wrongly

2009-11-28 Thread SkullBurner
1. Yes it is always when xrandr plugin is activated it causes wrong
behavior of xrandr at least in my configuration, I have no possibility
to check it with other laptops.

2. Follow this steps:

 1. Get a laptop.

 2. After it has booted.

 3. connect external monitor.

 4. Open terminal and type xrandr -q and press enter.

 5. You should see that external monitor is activated together with
internal monitor side by side in new virtual desktop.

 6. deactivate xrandr plugin torough gconf editor.

 6. Disconnect the external monitor, wait some seconds and repeat steps
3 to 4 and you will see that now only the data of connected monitors is
displayed without activating external monitor or changing any settings
like it should be.

Feel free to ask for more information that can help to solve this
problem.

Yes, when I connect the monitor nothing happens until I have run xrandr

Same happens if I start monitor settings tool from system-settings

in background so that same behavior is shown by it.

[Bug 489765] Re: xrandr plugin makes xrandr behave wrongly

2009-11-28 Thread SkullBurner
I want to clarify that I mean with external monitor is activated that
external monitor is switched on and shows a left part of virtual desktop
together with internal monitor showing left part of virtual desktop and
not that it is enabled in monitor settings tool.

Same behavior I described in Replay #2 in answer to the 2. question
occurs if you open monitor settings tool instead of running xrandr -q
in step 4.

[Bug 489765] Re: xrandr plugin makes xrandr behave wrongly

2009-11-28 Thread SkullBurner
I can switch video modes with Fn+F4 button without problems after I have
connected external monitor, there are no crashes happening before I
cycle to the left to right connected monitors which crashes my driver
but only when compiz is started with metacity there is no crash
happening.

This odd behavior it started happening after latest updates I installed.
Before that behavior was different, when I have connected the monitor
nothing happened before I pressed fn+F4 button, that would only mirror
internal monitor on external and it would stay like that after repeated
fn+F4 presses. First I needed to start monitor settings tool with that i
could then make settings that I wanted and they would then be saved and
reused on system start. For me external monitor never was switched on
automatically by the gnome-settings-daemon only enabled but it stayed
off until I have pressed fn+F4 button or activated the external monitor
in monitor setting tool, it was like that also with ubuntu version prior
to karmic.

Now it behaves like I described.

[Bug 482255] [NEW] tuxonice userui is not working

2009-11-13 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tuxonice-userui

I have installed tuxonice on ubuntu 9.10 karmic. I have configured everything
and tuxonice is working properly but userui is not working. I don't get any
userui no text or usplash. If I enable userui then I can hibernate but after
the resume I get only black screen in X, I see the mousecursor and X-Windows
starts but I can't see the user interface only black screen and console cursor.
If I don't enable any userui for tuxonice hibernateing and resuming works as it
should but without userui.
Perhaps it has something to do with new intel graphics driver with kernel mode

[Bug 482334] [NEW] WPA2 Enterprise can't establish connection to enterprise wlan system

2009-11-13 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wpasupplicant

Hi,
I can't connect to the wlan with wpa enterprise, TTLS . I use ubuntu 9.10 on a
samsung Q35 laptop with intel chipset.

wpasupplicant version is 0.6.9-3ubuntu1.

There is an error in openSSL in connection with TLS authentification.

Please try to solve this problem because without WPA-EAP connection makes my
laptop useless on my university because there is not always a cable connection
present on the places I must use the laptop which makes a huge problem.
In versions of ubuntu prior to 9.10 I have had no problems establishing
connections with WPA-EAP so I assume that the problem is not with my hardware
but somehow in wpasupplicant in connection with openSSL.

[Bug 423081] [NEW] Some FN Key on Samsung Q35 are not working.

2009-09-02 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

My Laptop is:
Manufacturer: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.
Product Name: SQ35S
System Version: 03SD

I am now using Ubuntu 9.04 before that I have used Ubuntu 8.04. In
Ubuntu 9.04 some FN keys are not working most important for me is the
key FN+F4 which is used to switch external VGA output on and off. This
key was working on Ubuntu 8.04 but now it is not working any more.

I have already tried solutions offered in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HotkeyResearch. All methods
mentioned in this articles have not helped to solve the problem. The key
press event is not reported at all with all the methods described in the
before mentioned articles.

Could somebody please check this problem and suggest some solution
strategy.

In attachments I have gathered some infos that can possibly help to
solve this.

[Bug 249323] Re: gnome-power-manager is not performing any acton on critical battery condition in hardy

2008-07-18 Thread SkullBurner
Now I installed kpowersave and it is performing actions on critical
battery charge conditions without any problems. I now run both
kpowersave and gnome-power-manager because I don't knwo how to
deactivate gnome-power-manager. But if kpowersave can perform this
important actions for laptop users gnome-power-manager should also be
able to do it. So please check this issue as soon as possible because it
is the most important function of the power saving software for laptop
users.

[Bug 249323] [NEW] gnome-power-manager is not performing any acton on critical battery condition in hardy

2008-07-16 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have latest Hardy with latest updates. On my laptop the gnome-power-
manager doesn't do any actions when critical tresholds for the battery
charge are reached. It doesn't hibernate when action treshold is reached
and it never reports that critical battery charge treshold has been
reached. It ignores all the settings and does anything. This causes the
laptop to work on battery until it dies causing possible data loss.

This is an unacceptable working condition because this bug can cause
data loss so please check this issue or help me to resolve the problem.

I had Gutsy before and there gnome-power-manager has performed actions
on critical battery charge conditions, for me this bug is introduced
somehow by Hardy.

Thank you!

[Bug 238131] Re: whiteout on console makes console unusable after resume from hibernation [i945GM]

2008-07-15 Thread SkullBurner
Sorry but I have no time right now to investigate this issue further.
For me with unofficial driver I get most of the time coloured and
missaligned console window(rolled some pixels to the right so that first
n columns of pixels from the right side appear on the left side) but I
can use console. Some times I also get only the all-white screen but
with the unofficial driver it happens only very seldom.

Hi,
Thank you for your replay!
I have now tried this unofficial package and now I have attached
/var/log/Xorg.0.log after switching to console. But now I have tried 5
Hibernations and 5 Suspends and after 3 Hibernations console now is not more
whited out but it is now blue background with orange characters and it is
missaligned.
This unofficial driver has solved for me the Bug #229128.

[Bug 238131] [NEW] whiteout on console makes console unusable after resume from hibernation

2008-06-07 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After resume from Hibernation I see for some 10 seconds white screen
after resume is completed I can normally work in X11 but if I switch to
the console with the ctrl + alt + F1 etc. I only see white screen and
can't use the console, I can switch back to X11 with ctrl + alt + F7 and
work further without problem. Sometimes the screen after resume from
Hibernation is blue in this case I can switch to console but the
background of the console window is blue and characters are yellow. This
problem doesn't happen after resume from suspend to ram.

As a attachment I supply the Xorg.0.log after I resumed from Hibernation
with the result in blue console window.

[Bug 229128] Re: X crashes after suspend or hibernate when playing video using intel video overlay i945GM in Hardy

2008-06-01 Thread SkullBurner
I have now tried to suspend and hibernate my machine wit the result that
on each resume from hibernate my console is not reachable only thing I
see when I try to switch to console with ctrl+alt+f1 etc. is white
screen, X11 is working without problems. This error only happens when I
resume from hibernation, suspend is working without this error. This
error happens regardless of activating the compositing. I don't know if
my first problem is somehow connected to this one.

If someone has any Idea how to solve this please write your Idea here,
any suggestion is welcome.

[Bug 229128] Re: X crashes after suspend or hibernate when playing video using intel video overlay i945GM in Hardy

2008-05-31 Thread SkullBurner
I am not able to switch to console after the crash and yes I must press the
power button for more than three seconds in order to shut down.
I don't know if it is the kernel issue but it only happens in connection with
my described actions in first post, everything else works properly, only if I
try to play video then whole system crashes with weird black screen with green
stripes, because of that I have thought that this must have something to do
with intel graphic driver, if I don't use IntelVideoOverlay with compositing on
or if I use IntelVideoOverlay without compositing then I don't get any problems.

[Bug 229128] Re: X crashes after suspend or hibernate when playing video using intel video overlay i945GM in Hardy

2008-05-30 Thread SkullBurner
Here is my xorg.0.log after the crash. I hope this will help you
further.

Besides this issue also have had some other problems with my graphic. If I
connect external monitor and work with it after some 1 Hour + I get a whiteout,
the whole screen gets white and I can't see anything to solve this I must
restart the xserver with crl+alt+backspace and log in again.
Also I noticed some problem with switching from X11 to consoles with
ctrl+alz+F1 etc. sometimes after hibernate or suspend I get white screen if I
try to switch to console from X11. I don't know if this bugs are related to
this first bug but they are happening also without any compositing switched on.

I hope someone has an Idea how to solve this problems, for me it seems
that intel drivers are very unstable or is it my system?!

[Bug 229128] [NEW] X crashes after suspend or hibernate when playing video using intel video overlay i945GM in Hardy

2008-05-10 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

When my laptop wakes up from hibernate or suspend when I try to play
video clip using intel video overlay x freezes with black screen and
some weird stuff on screen after couple of seconds, it doesn't happen
after each time laptop is suspended sometimes it takes 5 suspends until
x crashes sometimes only 1. This happens only if any sort of compositing
is activated, it doesn't matter if it is metacity compositing or compiz-
fusion, without compositing and desktop effects this crash doesn't
happen. After x freezes and crashes there is no other way to make system
usable again then to power it down over power button because keyboard is
not working. My laptop type is Samsung Q35 Model:NP-Q35.

I hope this bug will be solved soon because it is preventing me of using
any sort of compositing, and I like this eye candy very much.

Thank you!

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
