[Bug 785501] Re: Terminator has a (some?) memory leak
I've hit this bug recently too. More information here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=213319 It happens every few days. It's almost certainly Terminator to blame and not something more systemic, because I can open Konsole fine. There may be a memory leak involved. A freshly started terminator uses 49 MB, whereas the stuck version uses 190 MB. Unfortunately, this bug takes a while to surface. This means testing terminator-gtk3 is not an option for me; version r1637 is unusable because of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/terminator/+bug/1501128/comments/4 I'm happy to troubleshoot more, if that is useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/785501 Title: Terminator has a (some?) memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/terminator/+bug/785501/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1302218] [NEW] kubuntu-devel-release-upgrade crashes when terminal input is required
Public bug reported: When using Kubuntu 13.10, I attempted to upgrade to Kubuntu 14.04 using `kubuntu-devel-release-upgrade` as recommended [1]. A window popped up saying: Could not install the upgrades. The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a). I clicked OK (or was it close?), and the GUI was stuck at 45%. I could no longer scroll the in-built terminal output, and the GUI window appeared to be stuck. Looking at the terminal from which I launched `kubuntu-devel-release- upgrade`, I could see Configuration file '/etc/apport/crashdb.conf' == Modified (by you or by a script) since installation. == Package distributor has shipped an updated version. What would you like to do about it ? Your options are: Y or I : install the package maintainer's version N or O : keep your currently-installed version D : show the differences between the versions Z : start a shell to examine the situation The default action is to keep your current version. This launch-terminal didn't accept input. I had to kill the GUI process (from the launching terminal) I then ran `dpkg --configure -a`, which seemed to continue where I left off, presenting me again with the above query. I presume that this hang was due to the GUI Distribution Upgrade window being unable to accept text input. This is particularly problematic if you forget this bug exists, and forget to reload. If you attempt to copy edited code and paste into a terminal, you can potentially execute the wrong code, as the invisible newline is inserted in the clipboard. For example… (DON'T DO THIS) ''' sudo rm -rf /local/bin/usr/myscripts ''' Oh, I got the path wrong! I'll just copy usr/ and paste it before local. [Bug 1213753] Re: Cannot clone or mirror multiple screens in kscreen
Ah okay then. I suspected that kscreen was not designed to duplicate this particular important functionality of krandr, and thus they weren't *real* duplicates. I guess this categorisation depends on your definition of the threshold for duplicate, though. However, perhaps there is an argument to include krandr over kscreen, even if the former is more user-friendly. In my experience, at my workplace, I would think that most users (of other operating systems) would set monitors to clone much more frequently than any other option. Certainly many do use dual monitor setups, but this is usually set once and forget. OTOH, giving presentations usually warrants using clone screen, and this is required to be set every single time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1213753 Title: Cannot clone or mirror multiple screens in kscreen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kscreen/+bug/1213753/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1213753] Re: Cannot clone or mirror multiple screens in kscreen

[Bug 1251797] [NEW] Cannot print to (Airport Extreme) networked printer via Avahi
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to (K)ubuntu 13.10, I could not print to my Airport Extreme networked printer any more, using the identical settings that worked fine in 13.04. I can re-add the printer, and it is automatically discovered correctly. However, when I attempted to print to this new printer or the old printer, the job never completed, with The printer is not responding. Printing to other network printers worked fine (also via Avahi names). Alternatively, I can add the printer using the IP address, i.e. as socket://ip address of Airport Extreme:9100, and this works fine. For the failed Avahi case, I enabled more logging, and will attach `/var/log/cups/error_log`. [Bug 1249940] [NEW] Thunderbird picks incorrect mime type for inline picture when drag-and-dropping
Public bug reported: When I attach png images by dragging from the file browser to the header region of the compose window, they are attached with correct mimetype. Content-Type: image/png; name=foo.png Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=foo.png Similarly, *inline* png images attach fine when using Thunderbird's native file picker. Content-Type: image/png; name=foo.png Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: part1.random_numb...@foobar.com Content-Disposition: inline; filename=foo.png However, when I attach them inline by *dragging* from the file browser into the body, they are attached with the incorrect mime type as Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: part1.00030206.09040...@foobar.com The latter displays fine for the recipient if they are using Thunderbird, or via the gmail web interface. However, OSX Mail.app users only see a text file Mail Attachment.txt full of nonsense. Kmail also fails to display the image correctly. It seems that Thunderbird is using the wrong mime type when png images are attached inline. (I also see a similar problem with .jpg files.) I see the same problem whether dragging from Dolphin file browser, Konqueror, Krusader, Firefox (via the browser window itself), and Kate's file picker. With Firefox, I entered the file path into the url bar, and dragged from the main browser window. I also attempted to install Nautilus, but I can't even drag from it (with KDE). I've also tried dragging from Firefox's browser window in Xubuntu, which had the same problem. I tried safe mode, and this didn't fix it. Finally, installing Thunderbird directly from the website *does* fix the problem so it's a problem introduced in the Ubuntu package. [Bug 1234468] [NEW] Active window cannot receive keystrokes
Public bug reported: Recently, possibly in the upgrade to Thunderbird 24.0, I've found that the front-most, active window often will not receive keystrokes. Instead they are being sent to the background, inactive window. For example, I attempt to reply to an email, and start typing. I see text in the body as expected, then a second after beginning, the text is sent to the main mail index window. The front-most window is shown as selected in the pager, while a non-selected window receives the keystrokes. This means that for long periods, I am unable to send and compose emails. In addition, I'm also often mid-sentence when I realise that the characters aren't appearing, and I've done some weird filing/labelling in the mail index window. I can alt-tab or click between windows, but cannot seem to type into the compose window. Otherwise, clicking does all you expect it to. You can select menus of the window; you can even select text (although it's the background window grey instead of the foreground window blue). I tried to make sure that it was not an issue with X/KDE by testing to see what the reported active window was. $ xwininfo | grep -i 'window id' xwininfo: Window id: 0x3c001f6 Inbox - Uni - Mozilla Thunderbird $ xwininfo | grep -i 'window id' xwininfo: Window id: 0x3c0670c Write: Re: Foo Bar - Unicode (UTF-8) $ sleep 1 xprop -root | grep -E '^_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW' _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW(WINDOW): window id # 0x3c001f6 $ sleep 1 xprop -root | grep -E '^_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW' _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW(WINDOW): window id # 0x3c0670c It seems that even when the active window is reported to be the compose window by X, it will still not receive input. I presume that it's Thunderbird hijacking the active window internally. I don't see this in any other application, except for Firefox occasionally. It used to be fairly frequent in Firefox six months ago, but appears to have diminished in frequency since then. [Bug 1234470] [NEW] Active window cannot receive keystrokes

Instead they are being sent to the background, inactive window. The front-most window is shown as selected in the pager, while a non-selected window receives the keystrokes. You can select menus of the window; you can even select text (although it's the background window grey instead of the foreground window blue). I tried to make sure that it was not an issue with X/KDE by testing to see what the reported active window was. First I found window IDs with xwininfo | grep -i 'window id' Then, when the bug occurred, I attempted to see if keystrokes were being passed to the active (but non-responsive) window with xev -id 0x123456 | grep Key I also did the same for the background window that was actually responding to the keystrokes. It seems that the active (but non- responsive) window was indeed receiving keystrokes, and the other one was not, although it was responding to them.. I presume that it's Firefox hijacking the active window internally. I don't see this in any other application, except much more frequently in Thunderbird. [Bug 1228009] [NEW] Regression: Zebra striping is no longer present
Public bug reported: I upgraded Thunderbird yesterday (19 Sep 2013) to 24.0+build1-0ubuntu0.13.04.1. I upgrade packages almost every day, but (from /var/log/apt/history.log) it seems like the previous version was 17.0.8+build1-0ubuntu0.13.04.1. (v17 to v24. Is that correct?) Upon restarting, the zebra striping in the list of emails is no longer present. I'm using the default theme (Default 24.0, last updated 19 Sep 2013). I've also tried restarting in safe mode, but the zebra striping is still absent. The background no longer alternates, instead displaying the same white colour for all messages. [Bug 1216218] [NEW] xorg xkb options don't trigger when MatchProduct is used
Public bug reported: I have a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ that attempts to set the xkb options for a specific keyboard model. Hence, it contains the following line: MatchProduct TrulyErgonomic.com Truly Ergonomic Computer Keyboard I know that this match triggers fine, because it activates at-home-modifier [1] as expected, only for this keyboard. I can confirm this by commenting out the following at-home-modifier line, which results in a lack of activation. Option TransMod 36:64 However, it seems that the xkb options are not triggering. For example this line: Option XKbOptions lv3:ralt_switch_multikey,numpad:pc,ctrl:swapcaps Similarly to above, I've tried removing ,ctrl:swapcaps and restarting, but this makes no difference. From `setxkbmap -query`, no options are set. Oddly enough, if I comment out the MatchProduct line, then this line functions as expected, as confirmed by restarting with either ,ctrl:swapcaps present or absent. (Obviously this then acts on all keyboards.) I've also tried this with similar results for: Option XkbLayout ara Option XkbVariant Finally, I've also tried manually changing the settings of they integrated keyboard. First I find the id with `xinput list`, then run setxkbmap -device 15 -layout us -variant altgr-intl -option lv3:ralt_switch_multikey,numpad:pc,ctrl:swapcaps This works as expected. In case it's important, here is /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-TECK-keymap.conf : Section InputClass Identifier TECK Driver evdev # If you save this file under xorg.conf.d/ : Option AutoServerLayout on MatchIsKeyboard on MatchProduct TrulyErgonomic.com Truly Ergonomic Computer Keyboard ### at-home-modifier options begin here. # The basic option. Option XkbLayout us Option XkbVariant altgr-intl Option XKbOptions lv3:ralt_switch_multikey,numpad:pc,ctrl:swapcaps Option TransMod 36:64 EndSection I'm running Kubuntu 13.04, KDE 4.10.5, with Configure layouts and Configure keyboard options unchecked in System Settings. Further, I can see that the settings are being overwritten by /etc/default/keyboard . I can change this file manually, and see that xkb changes on restart. Is there a workaround that will allow me to configure keyboards separately? I tried removing this file or commenting it all out, but upon restart, xkb still ignored xorg.conf, using some kind of hard-coded default values. [Bug 1213753] [NEW] Cannot clone or mirror multiple screens in kscreen
Public bug reported: Kscreen does not allow you clone or mirror multiple monitors. The closest way is to make both displays the same resolution, then drag them over each other. They don't snap internally, so often I'm off by a few pixels. Previously, kde-workspace-randr allowed you to do this by ticking Unify outputs, but this package is not currently in the default installation of Kubuntu 13.04 (KDE 4.10.5). [Bug 1181660] [NEW] PowerDevil selects the incorrect brightness interface
Public bug reported: I upgraded to Kubuntu 13.04, and my brightness keys will not select the correct interface. This worked fine in Kubuntu 12.10, if I put acpi_backlight=vendor in the grub options. Now, when /etc/default/grub contains GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=acpi_backlight=vendor /sys/class/backlight/ contains dell_backlight and intel_backlight. Pressing the brightness keys does nothing to the display, but modifies the value in dell_backlight/brightness . However, if I manually modify the values in intel_backlight/brightness , the backlight changes as expected. If I modify /etc/default/grub to contain GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= /sys/class/backlight/ now contains acpi_video0 , acpi_video1 and intel_backlight . Now, the brightness keys do work (somewhat), and the value of acpi_video1/brightness is modified. However, acpi_backlight=vendor gives me more control over the backlight. For example, I can reduce the backlight down to 0% and have the screen turn off. Without this grub option, when I reduce acpi_video1/brightness to 0 with the brightness keys, the backlight is still on. Hence, it seems that the brightness keys should really modify intel_backlight instead of acpi_video1. As per [1], I'll file a bug against the kernel. [Bug 1168255] [NEW] Enabling wakeup on the USB Root Controller prevents computer from suspending
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1) As root: # echo enabled /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-1/power/wakeup 2) Attempt to suspend computer. Expected results: Computer should suspend. Observed results Computer goes into suspend then immediately wakes up. There is nothing informative in /var/log/pm-suspend.log Background: This bug was discovered by a udev script that I wrote to allow waking my computer up from suspension by attached USB devices. This is the script: ACTION==add, SUBSYSTEM==usb, ATTRS{idVendor}==15d9, ATTRS{idProduct}==0a4d RUN+=/bin/sh -c 'echo enabled /sys$env{DEVPATH}/../power/wakeup' A recent regression meant that this now prevents the computer from suspending as above. This script now writes enabled to both /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-1/power/wakeup and /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-1/2-1.1/power/wakeup . I'm not sure if the regression was that it now writes to the former as well as the latter, or if it always has written to both, and a regression in pm-suspend now cannot deal with the former. If I write disabled to the former, I can suspend as normal. [Bug 995743] Re: 197b:2394 Internal SD card reader is not working on Dell XPS 17 L502X
I don't fully understand the bug reporting in Ubuntu, but it seems to me that Ubuntu/Christopher require testing of every new kernel for this bug to remain valid, even if a fix has not been applied upstream. I guess there is the possibility that some random change of code has unintentionally fixed this bug. I can't really commit to re-checking and restarting so frequently, especially since there are possible duplicates of this bug in Launchpad anyway. I expect that if this bug were targeted on the basis of one of these putatively duplicate reports, my bug would also be fixed. (Also, there is a workaround for my personal use anyway.) In addition, it seems that upstream aren't currently targeting the bug anyway, based on the bug I filed there. Also, if I understand correctly, then testing the bug to make it valid for Ubuntu/Christopher doesn't have any effect on its validity upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995743 Title: 197b:2394 Internal SD card reader is not working on Dell XPS 17 L502X To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/995743/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1056536] [NEW] Focus should revert to second-highest window when closing highest window
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce bug - Close the highest (and currently-focused) window. Expected behaviour - The second-highest window should be focused. Observed behaviour - This occurs most of the time, but not when closing windows of some specific applications. - For the following list of test cases, no window is selected after closing the top-most window. This results in the application indicator in the menubar being blank (it normally shows the current application's icon and name), and no window selected (i.e. the window title is grey, not black). In some cases, total focus is lost (e.g. when nautilus is the next window), with key-presses not registering. In other cases, some functionality is retained (e.g. when firefox/gedit is the next window, key-presses are still passed). In the latter cases (i.e. firefox/gedit) the bug is just cosmetic. However, in the former cases (i.e. nautilus), the bug is quite irritating, as you must re-activate the front-most window before continuing. Test cases that induce bug - Guake: press hotkey to pop up window. Press it again to close the window. - VLC: open a file or even just launch VLC from the gnome-shell overview. Close the window with alt+F4 or with alt+q. - SMplayer: as per VLC.
