[Bug 542660] Re: New Apple iMac (Core i5) fails to display anything

2012-01-06 Thread Steven Harper
Lubuntu. - not working

Desktop works great for the CD installer (I assume it was using the Radeon
driver).
After reboot the Xorg log was complaining the the fglrx driver was missing

after a manual
apt-get install fglrx
Reboot - no screen - flashing black on/off

I have to reboot with the kernel options nomodeset xforcevesa then
switch to a terminal with CTRL+ALT+F1

At the bottom of the xorg log is this.

fglrx(0): Restoring Recent Mode via PCS is not supported in RANDR 1.2
capable environments

I then generate a new xorg.conf with

aticonfig --initial

new error in the xorg log is
(WW) fglrx: No matching Device Section for instance (BUSID PCI:0@0:1) found

if I try to swap back to the driver radeon and remove the BUSID from the xorg
file
I get this error in xorg

(II) [KMS] drm report modesetting isn't supported
(EE) RADEON(0): Chipset: TURKS (ChipId = 0x6740) requires KMS

[Bug 542660] Re: New Apple iMac (Core i5) fails to display anything

2012-01-04 Thread Steven Harper
Still effecting Apple Macbookpro (Core i5) 17 inch. Running 12.04
64bit.

Installer via Live CD works, but after that nothing at all for vesa, radeon or
fglrx drivers.
Blank (LCD is lit but black) screen.

Could be one of these two:
-that the mini DVI is the default output
-the driver requires the bios to be available and EFI boot does not do this.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26891

This bug is only effecting the newer MacBookPro's (i5) not effecting
core duo older MacBooks.

I am happy to any testing of patches etc..

Would be great to see some progress on this one.

[Bug 560892] [NEW] Live CD/USB installer is missing the Next and previous buttons on Select Partition

2010-04-11 Thread Steven Harper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I am installing onto a small screen (800x480) EEEpc 701, from the Beta 2
lucid build made into a bootable USB pendrive.

At the step where you select where to install, the panel is too small
and does not show any of the buttons on the screen to alter partitions.

You can drag the window about (using the ALT Key) and you can try to
expand it (but it won't let you), but the window just ends after the
Manually Partition section.

The only way to get off this page (visibly) is to cancel the install.

As a workround you can use ALT+F to get to the next screen.

[Bug 533733] [NEW] Lucid login screen, bottom bar items overlapping on 800x480 screen

On smaller netbook screens (eeepc 4G) where the max resolution is
800x480, the GDM greeter looks good, until you select a user, then the

2010-03-07 Thread Steven Harper
I have the same behavior on my asus eeepc 4G on a clean netbook remix
install of Alpha 5.

I believe it is a race condition, as once it has not happened, maybe the
speed of the SSD disk is highlighting this bug.

When I have the blank screen (with just a promt in the top corner) I
hit the RETURN key and the greeter then re-ppears.

[Bug 246790] Re: EasyCrypt 0.2.2.10 doesn't see TrueCrypt 6.0a

2008-11-04 Thread Steven Harper
Hi Felix, and everyone else.

I am currently working on supporting the current version of Truecrypt
(6.1) you may notice that this version puts an icon in the Ubuntu Menu
(Applications | Other | Truecrypt) this seems to complete the problems
of a Missing GUI in truecrypt.

I am sorry that support for v6.x has not been done sooner; real life
busyness has prevented support of Easycrypt.

However I do intend to fix easycrypt for 6.1 and I have a working
version on my ibex install now.

I am working through the process to update the version now.

Steve

I still think that this is a bug

I have an eth0 this is disconnected, and as you see from my log its
disconnected and gets this in the log

Oct 26 12:40:40 uber-ubuntu NetworkManager: info Unmanaged Device
found; state CONNECTED forced

Now I have got an entry for eth1, this should be ignored by NM, however I don't
think this is a good reason to have NO
NM in the tray. NM should be there with a greyed out eth0 and an uneditable
eth1 (because its managed).

[Bug 289466] Re: Network Manager 0.7 applet not Appearing if there are managed entries in /etc/network/interfaces

2008-10-28 Thread Steven Harper
I was aware that the connection is forced I read the bug for that one.

Yes I agree its JUST a display bug in nm-applet, but I still think its a
important one.

If I wanted to swap to a Wireless network I can't unless I restart the
applet,

now thats OK for me, but beginner users will be put off

[Bug 212441] [NEW] Init Script on Hardy not working

2008-04-05 Thread Steven Harper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mediatomb

When I start the server on a command line

sudo /etc/init.d/mediatomb

everything works - also on first install the server is started correctly

However I want the server to start correctly (as its linked in
/etc/rc2.d/S20mediatomb)

When I look in the logs (/var/log/mediatomb.log) a good startup looks
like this

[Bug 212441] Re: Init Script on Hardy not working

2008-04-05 Thread Steven Harper
I have also tried adding the following into the /etc/init.d/mediatomb

route add -net 239.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 eth0
ifconfig eth0 allmulti

However id doesn't work, maybe it has something to do with network
manager - and the default file

/etc/network/interfaces

which only contains

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

[Bug 212441] Re: Init Script on Hardy not working

2008-04-05 Thread Steven Harper
Fixed it manually

I have added the following to my /etc/network/interfaces
--
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
--
so my whole file now is

--
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
--

The problem is that most (i suspect over 90%) people will alway rely on
the GDM to set their network up, so the /etc/network/interfaces will
never get an entry

Whats needed is either DBUS integration to detect the current adapters,
or maybe just a warning message on first start (this may scare off most
people)

What I would do is if there are no adapters detected, then maybe either

Have an optional hard coded one in /etc/mediatomb/config.xml
run the ifconfig command and take the first non-loopback entry with an IP

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-03-24 Thread Steven Harper
I see the same problem, however the CPU load is normal when the size of
the window is about 400px high (normal) if I make it about 600px or full
screen the cpu load goes higher the bigger the window the higher the
load.

This is when I am on the Resources Tab (graphs)

I'm on Hardy beta 64bit
Linux uber-hardy 2.6.24-12-generic #1 SMP Wed Mar 12 22:31:43 UTC 2008 x86_64

I also see the same on 32bit - with or without the nvidia drivers

when I start it on command line I get this

** (gnome-system-monitor:7009): WARNING **: SELinux was found but is not
enabled.

I do not know if thats relevant

[Bug 205697] [NEW] Passwords between 12 and 19 characters long cause a hang during create

2008-03-23 Thread Steven Harper
Public bug reported:

Passwords between 12 and 19 characters long cause a hang during create

This is because the TrueCrypt Command Line suggest password should be 20

stops is 12 characters - I need to change the value

[Bug 204559] [NEW] EasyCrypt not Creating with certain settings

2008-03-21 Thread Steven Harper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: easycrypt

User has reported the following bug

some new crypts cannot be created with EC 0.2.2.8 and TC 5.1?

I tried to create a new crypt, with keyfile, about 300 MB, Serpent-
Twofish-AES Enc. Algorithm, RIPEMD-169 Hash Algorithm and EXT3
Filesystem.

When I press New, I was asked for the password, but after that nothing
happened, no progress bar, nor any sign of activity.

After that I managed to create a crypt with EC default settings, and
only then creation of EXT3 was successful. I tried again, and one more
unsuccessful creation of a new crypt, no matter is it EXT3 or FAT.
What's going on? Any ideas?

BTW, Truecrypt created a new crypt normally. And, I'm using Gutsy
64-bit.

Yes - as 0.2.2.7 was not ever got to, this build includes the diff from
0.2.2.6-0.2.2.8 so we can simply close 0.2.2.7 as it never got actioned.
