[Bug 839712] Re: Plugins written in Python can no longer be enabled
Just a side note, as I have gone to determine why the plugins won't activate, I discovered that running python2.7 -c from gi.repository import Gedit fails, but running python3 -c from gi.repository import Gedit doesn't. I am assuming it could be the way libpeas/gedit is linked to Python, and/or the version of the interpreter that it loads. I can also see that gedit depends on python 2.7. This problem persisted after I upgraded to Lucid ten days ago and I also had a problem with the [top] panel, I couldn't unlock it. So, I sought and found a simple solution to the second problem (http://maketecheasier.com/unlock-gnome-panel-in-ubuntu-netbook-edition- une/2010/04/25): I changed the session to Gnome. Fortunately, it was a solution to the first problem, too. On April 27, 2010 I noticed that an additional Croatian (Croatia) keyboard layout appeared indicated with Hrv2 (2 displayed as an index). When I changed between layouts, the Hrv2 indicator appeared twice. From the Keyboard preferences Layouts I removed the Croatia keyboard layout and restarted the computer. The Croatia keyboard layout appeared again. I tried this procedure several times but with no success. After that I made the Croatia keyboard layout the default layout and removed the Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters. Unfortunately this layout was too inconvenient for me. Then I decided to replace the basic Croatia keyboard layout definition in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/hr with Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters keyboard layout definition. I copied this file in a user folder, edited it and then copied it back to the /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols folder using the terminal and sudo. So I solved the problem with two Croatian keyboard layouts. Unfortunately, the problem with the 'idle' layout wasn't solved - I had to press twice to change from Bgr to Hrv (when using the mouse it's OK, every time you press the button you change the layout with the other one). [Bug 475821] Re: pcscd is supposed to run at startup, but sometimes it does, sometimes not, can't tell why. It started reliably in my last distro, crunchbang, based on ubuntu 9.04.
I have a similar problem. On my old desktop I use Ubuntu 9.10 (Gnome 2.28.1, kernel 2.6.31-16-generic) and pcscd doesn't start at startup at all. I tried many tricks but I wasn't able to make it start at startup. Finally, I added an additional startup program named PC/SC Daemon with this command line: gksudo /etc/init.d/pcscd start Unfortunately, it is not convenient enough because at startup, I am asked to enter my password. However, on my Dell mini 9 with Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook remix, pcscd runs normally at startup and I didn't have any problem with it. On both PCs I use Omnikey CardMan 3021. -- pcscd is supposed to run at startup, but sometimes it does, sometimes not, can't tell why. After the updates on Nov. 25, 2009, I noticed a slight change of the keyboard layout switching behaviour: when I switched between keyboards, there was an 'idle' press of the layout change key (in my case it is the left Win key) (or click on the indicator) between Bgr and Hrv keyboards. I kept trying to find a solution. Here is my [temporary and not perfect]
solution:
When I booted the system I checked the Layouts tab in Keyboard preferences
(right clicked on the keyboard indicator). Under Selected layouts I saw three
lines: Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters (marked as default), Bulgaria
Traditional Phonetic and hr,bgus,phonetic. I marked the third line (hr,bg
us,phonetic) as default and removed the first two lines. Then I rebooted,
right clicked on the keyboard indicator, selected Groups and saw only two
layouts: Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters and Bulgaria Traditional
Phonetic (not doubled!). In Layouts tab in Keyboard preferences window, under
Selected layouts there was a single line: hr,bgus,phonetic, marked as
default. Unfortunately, when I switched between the layouts a third layout
indicated with '??' appeared. When right clicked on the keyboard indicator
('??') and selected the Show current layout menu item, the Croatia US keyboard
with Croatian letters appeared in the Keyboard layout window and the header of
the window was 'Keyboard layout'. When I selected Show current layout with Hrv
keyboard indicator the header of the Layout window was: 'Keyboard layout
Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters ' and when selected Show current
layout with Bgr keyboard indicator the header of the Layout window was:
'Keyboard layout Bulgaria Traditional Phonetic '. Now I have to make a choice
between two bugs:)

Public bug reported: I use two keyboard layouts in Ubuntu 9.10: Croatian (Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters - default) and Bulgarian (Bulgaria Traditional Phonetic). I set these layouts immediately after installing Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix on my Dell Mini 9. A week later I noticed that another keyboard layout was added to these layouts in the Keyboard Preferences Layouts tab (hr,bgus,phonetic). When I right clicked on the keyboard indicator and selected Groups item I saw my keyboard layouts doubled, i.e.: Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters Bulgaria Traditional Phonetic Croatia US keyboard with Croatian letters Bulgaria Traditional Phonetic When I changed between the keyboards, the keyboard indicator changed in the following way: Hrv, Bgr, Hrv2, Bgr2 (2 was displayed like an index). I tried to remove the additional keyboard layout (or group) by removing it from the Keyboard Preferences Layouts tab but after rebooting the computer this layout appeared again. I looked on the Internet for information about such a bug and found some similar cases which were fixed by adding setxkbmap to the Startup applications. I also added setxkbmap to the Startup applications but unfortunately after rebooting my computer the additional keyboard appeared again. Then I looked for more information and found suggestions to add options XkbLayout and XkbVariant to xorg.conf file. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find such a file in /etc/X11/ directory, so I created it in this directory and put in it the content of a basic Intel xorg.conf (found here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1174702). Unfortunately, the last line in the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file was: options snd-hda-intel model=dell. So, I decided to change the model with 'auto' but after rebooting the computer there was no sound at all. Then I replaces the model name with 'acer-aspire' and rebooted the computer. [Bug 459881] [NEW] Upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to 9.04 failed
Public bug reported: I wasn't able upgrade Ubuntu 8.04 with update-manager, so I used adept_updater. I was able to download the new version (about 1 MB) and started the distribution upgrade. On 'Setting new software channels', after some time, multiple errors appeared and the upgrade stopped and I was offered to report a bug.
