[Bug 639908] Re: brasero crashed with signal 5 in g_variant_new_va()

2010-10-15 Thread TRiSS
I had this problem when trying to copy a dvd to iso. Installing
libdvdcss2 from the medibuntu repo fixed it, so I guess this error
points to a missing dependency for the task brasero needs to perform. No
idea what that would be for an audiocd though...

[Bug 300271] Re: Setting the network proxy doesn't change the synaptic proxy settings (gnome-network-preferences) for authenticated proxies

2009-02-26 Thread TRiSS
I can confirm this: no password or no_proxy variables are written to
/etc/environment.

This probably means this bug affects all 'terminal' apps, since they
would all need the passwd and no proxy infor;ation to function
correctly...

[Bug 300271] Re: Setting the network proxy doesn't change the synaptic proxy settings (gnome-network-preferences) for authenticated proxies

2009-02-26 Thread TRiSS
If you are referring to gnome-network-preferences, that's what I used to
set the proxy and proxy exceptions settings. This is supposed to write
some variables which other programs use (amongst which, I suppose,
synaptic, but also things like wget), in /etc/environment.

When you change the settings using gnome-network-preferences (and use
the set system wide button), some variables are not written to
/etc/environment, namely the ones that govern the authentication for the
proxy, and the exceptions list. The ones that say which server to use
are written to that file. This has the effect that an effected app
either can access the proxy server but can't authenticate, or that it
can access a proxy server that doesn't use authentication, but doesn't
know when NOT to use the proxy, eg when accessing stuff on the local
LAN.

Steps to reproduce:
1) open gnome-network-preferences
2) select manual configuration, enter a valid proxy server, set up
authentication if needed
3) add some exceptions on the next tab
4) click set system wide, fill in password
5) check /etc/environment: observe that the settings for the proxy are there,
except the ones for authentication, and the no_proxy one.

[Bug 206583] Re: System Monitor crashes when changing nice value of process

2008-05-13 Thread TRiSS
I can confirm this as well The crash only happens when you give a
process a lower nice value (requiring root rights) , not when you renice
it to a higher value (which can be done without root rights). It seems
like there's a problem asking for the user password for the renice,
because my taskbar does show a administrative task entry, the admin
window that should ask the password never appears though, and the gnome-
system-monitor closes.

[Bug 115984] Re: beid segfault in 64 bits mode

2008-02-13 Thread TRiSS
I found the following workaround:

1. add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list (add hardy repository):
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted universe multiverse

2. add to/create the file /etc/apt/preferences (make sure only packages you
manually upgrade from the hardy repo get upgraded, not all of them):
Package: *
Pin: release a=hardy
Pin-Priority: 400

3. run apt-get update

4. run the following:
sudo apt-get install -t hardy beid-tools

The last step will update a lot of things, amongst which libc6. So far,
this has not caused problems for me, but ymmv. I guess this also makes
this package unsuited for backporting. I also had to do a reboot before
the new packages would work, but since then all eid-supported stuff runs
flawless: signing mails in thunderbird, logging on to taxonweb, You
may also want to remove the hardy repository from sources and the lines
in the preferences file after the upgrade, as it may cause some trouble
when you should decide to upgrade your ubuntu in the future.

In case you run into problems and want to rollback the changes:

1. Make sure you don't have the Hardy repositories present in your
/etc/apt/sources.list (see step 1 of installation.)

2. Edit /etc/apt/preferences to contain the following, and delete any
references to Hardy:
Package: *
Pin: release v=7.10
Pin-Priority: 1100

Note that the release should be changed for whatever release you are
using (eg., 7.04 for feisty, 7.10 as shown for gutsy.) You should
specify this by version number and not by name because otherwise you
need separate entries for gutsy, gutsy-updates, etc.

3. Run apt-get dist-upgrade. This will downgrade your packages.
4. Edit /etc/apt/preferences and remove the pin you added in step 2, or just
remove the file completely. You should now be back at your current release.

[Bug 106303] Re: iec958 is docking headphone instead of spdif

2007-11-13 Thread TRiSS
this problem is not solved meanwhile, and I just tried the newest alsa
(1.0.15), which has a new model parameter for the stac9200 codec this
chip uses (model=dell-m23).

I think this bug might be a duplicate:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-media/+bug/151117/

I attached /proc/asound/intel/codec, which also might give some clues as
to where this spdif output is, it mentions it somewhere.

[Bug 155932] mpd has difficulties to connect to icecast

2007-10-22 Thread TRiSS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mpd

I just upgraded my server from feisty to gutsy. Under feisty, mpd was
already installed, so it was upgraded to this version:

mpd (MPD: Music Player Daemon) 0.13.0

Copyright (C) 2003-2007 Warren Dukes [EMAIL PROTECTED]
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO
warranty; not even MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Supported formats:
mp3 mp2 ogg ogg flac wav au aiff aif mpc amf dsm far gdm imf it med mod mtm s3m
stm stx ult uni xm

Supported outputs:
alsa ao oss pulse shout jack

This version seems to have a problem the previous version didn't have. I have
mpd read files of a local disk, and I then use a shout output to send them to
an icecast server on the web. Once mpd starts playing, all is well, but you
have to try several times before mpd will succeed in making a connection to the
icecast server. It seems that I have to click play +- 3 times before it
succeeds (sometimes more, sometimes less, seems random). In the log file
/var/log/mpd/errors.log the following appears when a connection fails:

Oct 22 21:17 : problems opening audio device while playing .mp3
Oct 22 21:17 : problems opening audio device while playing .mp3
Oct 22 21:22 : problems opening audio device while playing .mp3
Oct 22 21:23 : problems opening audio device while playing .ogg
Oct 22 21:23 : problem opening connection to shout server audio.z.be:8000
(attempt 3): No error
Oct 22 21:23 : problems opening audio device while playing .ogg
Oct 22 21:25 : problem opening connection to shout server audio..be:8000
(attempt 4): No error
Oct 22 21:25 : problems opening audio device while playing .ogg
Oct 22 21:36 : problems opening audio device while playing .ogg
Oct 22 21:36 : problems opening audio device while playing .ogg
(filenames and servernames obfuscated)

As you can see, the problem occurs with both mp3 and ogg files.

If you need more information, let me know here!

[Bug 106303] iec958 is docking headphone instead of spdif

2007-04-13 Thread TRiSS
Public bug reported:

I have a dell xps m1710 laptop, which has the ability to output digital
coax spdif through either the extra pin on the s-video or the dell
d-docking station spdif connection. This works in windows, so it's not a
problem with the docking. With the intel-hda driver, the spdif output
does not work. There is an iec958 switch in the mixer, but this seems to
toggle the docking station's headphone jack on and off, instead of
enabling/disabling the spdif output as one would expect. When using the
docking headphone jack, the laptop speakers are not turned off, and the
volume cannot be changed (fixed volume). The headphone jack on the
laptop does turn of the laptopspeakers when used, and reacts to the
normal volume controls.

This is on a feisty beta which has been upgraded from edgy (where the
docking headphone didn't work at all).

because this is how i got spdif output on another system/soundcard to
work...

[Bug 70687] Re: both button and tap-to-click cease working intermittently on touchpad

2007-04-13 Thread TRiSS
the notsc option works for this problem, and the problem has disappeared in the
feisty beta (without parameters)
I also had to add no_timer_check (in edgy, not in feisty) to solve some
problem, but don't remember what it was...

[Bug 106303] Re: iec958 is docking headphone instead of spdif

2007-04-13 Thread TRiSS
something related i noticed:

cat /proc/asound/devices
  2:: timer
  3:: sequencer
  4: [ 0- 1]: digital audio playback
  5: [ 0- 1]: digital audio capture
  6: [ 0- 0]: digital audio playback
  7: [ 0- 0]: digital audio capture
  8: [ 0] : control

when I playback (eg xmms) something through hw0:0, sound comes through
both pc speakers and the docking headphone jack. when playing back
through hw:0,1 , sound only comes from the headphone docking. Both do
not produce any output (nor signal, normally an enabled spdif gives some
ground empty signal that the receiver picks up) on the spdif jack

let me know if more info is needed!

[Bug 70687] Re: both button and tap-to-click cease working intermittently on touchpad

2007-02-16 Thread TRiSS
I can confirm this bug on a dell XPS m1710 (core 2 duo 2ghz, 2gb ram,
geforce 7950/512)

I'll try the notcs option, I hope that solves the problem... Haven't
tried the 32bit version..

There is no 2.6.17 in Dapper. Do you mean 2.6.15-27?

I am running Dapper and still have no usb working - my problem might be
different than this bug (Bug #36619).

sorry, my bad, my current kernel, with working usb2.0 is indeed
2.6.15-27-k7!

[Bug 24925] Re: Unlink after no-IRQ

2006-08-25 Thread TRiSS
I have the same problem, the ehci_hcd still worked in kernel
2.6.15-25-386, but since 2.6.15-26-386 neither the -386 or -k7 kernel
works:

[17179892.948000] usb 4-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address
5
[17179893.948000] ehci_hcd :00:10.3: Unlink after no-IRQ? Controller is
probably using the wrong IRQ.
[17179904.492000] usb 4-2: device not accepting address 5, error -110
[17179904.792000] usb 4-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address
7
[17179916.336000] usb 4-2: device not accepting address 7, error -110
[17179916.636000] usb 4-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address
9

This is a dapper 6.06 Hope this gets patched soon, since it's quite
annoying!
