[Bug 1268257] Re: nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu3: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build, with only error: objdump: '... .tmp_nv.o': No such file
I just did security update Linux Image 3.16.0.34-generic. It seems as if every time that I do the next security update there is a problem as is evident by this bug report: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build. I use this fix (This seems to fix it (at least for one version upgrade) for many people $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331 after that... $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331-uvm (some users may be on the versions of these packages suffixed with -updates ) and the update completes and I restart. I'm not an advanced Ubuntu tech but something must be wrong with the nvidia driver or the kernel that does not allow for security updates to complete. What is causing this problem? I'm about to have an old friend put Ubuntu15.04 on his computer and I hope that this bug is fixed before that update. By convincing him that WIN is more problem for him, I suggested Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1268257 Title: nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu3: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build, with only error: objdump: '... .tmp_nv.o': No such file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/1268257/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 258357] Re: [G86GL] Latest NVIDIA drivers: X hangs with blank screen after logout.
Hi Bryce, I just put 8.10 on my wife's computer that has a 6100 Nvidia chip on board. After much research and money spent with tech I opted to use v96. It too has bugs and no support for 3D. Makes me wonder 9.04 will be like. I don't dare try to change my graphics driver. Crossing my fingers. The tech did something right. His advise, don't try 9.04 and don't alter what he did. I'm running 177. 180 did not work on wife's computer. One always looks forward to the next Ubuntu upgrade but I have mixed feelings this time around. [Bug 258357] Re: [G86GL] Latest NVIDIA drivers: X hangs with blank screen after logout.
Jamin, I did my complaining with Nvidia. Seems as if they put the blame on Ubuntu. Ubuntu throws it right back at Nvidia. I figure that Ubuntu will lose users and Nvidia will lose customers. Either way, this has gone on for a year and 9.04 is almost here. Either way the consumer doesn't buy something that is broken. -- [G86GL] Latest NVIDIA drivers: X hangs with blank screen after logout. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258357 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 204137] Re: openoffice.org always crashes as soon as i access a menu.
I resolved this issue by following J.A. Watson's how to replace OpenOffice 2.4 with 3.0, see: http://community.zdnet.co.uk/blog/0,100567,10009699o- 2000498448b,00.htm#comment20098505. I have tried every suggestion to fix the nvidia driver and nothing is working. From editing to trying other drivers, to using Envyng.
