[Bug 1727628] Re: hp-plugin-3.17.9 is not avaiable because of new website
A far as it looks for me the problem is not HP's site change. With every HPLIP release I (as the maintainer of the OpenPrinting web site) get the plugin e-mailed from a person of the HPLIP team and upload it to the appropriate place on the OpenPrinting web server. I checked and I actually got plugins for 3.17.6 and 3.17.10 (which I both have uploaded) but not for 3.17.7 and 3.17.9. So the problem is that HP did not supply the plugin for 3.17.7 and 3.17.9. ** Changed in: hplip Status: New => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - hp-plugin-3.17.9 is not avaiable because of new website + hp-plugin for 3.17.7 and 3.17.9 is not available -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1727628 Title: hp-plugin for 3.17.7 and 3.17.9 is not available To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1727628/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1723593] Re: HP2540 Printer installs Ok but does not print
The problem is the following: HPLIP's "hp" CUPS backend reports: D [17/Oct/2017:06:44:33 +0100] [Job 1691] prnt/backend/hp.c 616: ERROR: 1009 media-empty-error; will retry in 30 seconds... This means one of the following: - Your printer is out of paper - Your printer has a hardware problem - The "hp" CUPS backend has a bug I have the same printer and it works for me with HPLIP, and assuming you are not reporting a bug with your printer being out of paper it is most probably some hardware problem. I will move the bug to HPLIP as it is definitely not a problem of CUPS, cups-filters, or Ghostscript. You can do another test to get at least the printing part of your printer to work. Please post the PPD file of the print queue for your DeskJet (it is in /etc/cups/ppd/) and also please clear all previous errors by running cancel -a and then print another job. Observe the output of lpstat -o and lpstat -p If the job entry in the output of "lpstat -o" does not go away after a few seconds you have most probably some error, "lpstat -p" will show you the error. [Bug 1723462] [NEW] GNOME: Universal Access - Larger mouse cursor only works with GDM not with LightDM and with GDM inconsistennt
Public bug reported: I have a vision problem and due to this I do not see very well the mouse pointer in its original size on my 14" HiDPI 2560x1440 QHD screen of my laptop. Therefore I go to "Universal Access" in the GNOME Settings and choose "Medium" for "Cursor Size". Due to bug 1722988 I happened to temporarily use GDM instead of LightDM and so I observed that my cursor size change is only applied if I am running my system with GDM as the greeter. With LightDM the cursor stays in original size all the time. So I have currently switched to GDM again to be able to have the larger mouse cursor. The commmands I have used (as of comment #9 of bug 1722988): -- sudo systemctl disable lightdm sudo systemctl stop lightdm sudo systemctl enable gdm #Seems to fail sudo systemctl start gdm sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 #Shows lightdm selected select gdm3, push enter Reboot -- But the large mouse cursor with GDM is also not perfect, as in some situations it stays in the small size. ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723462 Title: GNOME: Universal Access - Larger mouse cursor only works with GDM not with LightDM and with GDM inconsistennt To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1723462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1721839] Re: Services asked for by UDEV do not get triggered
I have tried recording startup and shutdown now by recording with the command "sleep 10" and doing the manual operation (plugging/unplugging USB) during the sleep delay. Unfortunately, it does not work. For unplugging I did sudo umockdev-record --ioctl=/dev/bus/usb/002/009=deskjet-2540-ioctl- shutdown.log sleep 10 and unplugged the USB plug right after pressing Enter. After waiting for the command to exit I did not get a deskjet-2540-ioctl-shutdown.log file. For plugging I did sudo umockdev-record --ioctl=/dev/bus/usb/002/010=deskjet-2540-ioctl- startup.log sleep 10 with the intention to plug the printer right after issuing the command. Note that after repugging the printer will appear under Bus:Device 002:010 so I used /dev/bus/usb/002/010. As the printer is still unplugged when issuing the command there is not yet a /dev/bus/usb/002/010 file and the program exists immediately complaining because of that and does not run "sleep 10". So any help to record start-up and shutdown of a USB device is appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721839 Title: Services asked for by UDEV do not get triggered To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1721839/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1721839] Re: Services asked for by UDEV do not get triggered
I have looked through Pitti's (upstream author) instructions of the tool, ut it seems that it only works on the already running device and that there is no way to capture the startup and shutdown sequences. I have recorded the main record of the device this way: till@till-x1carbon:~$ lsusb [...] Bus 002 Device 009: ID 03f0:c211 Hewlett-Packard [...] till@till-x1carbon:~$ sudo umockdev-record /dev/bus/usb/002/009 > deskjet-2540.umockdev I have attached the file. One can record device operations, but only those which can get triggered by a shell command, not those who are triggered by a manual operation on the device (plug/unplug, power-cycle, press button, ...). Is there a shell command which triggers a shutdown, start-up, or reboot of the printer? Especially one has to take into account that the device keeps only its bus ID and the device ID increments by 1. @pitti, is there a way to record start-up or shutdown of a USB device? ** Attachment added: "deskjet-2540.umockdev" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1721839/+attachment/4967899/+files/deskjet-2540.umockdev -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721839 Title: Services asked for by UDEV do not get triggered To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1721839/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1721839] Re: Services asked for by UDEV do not get triggered
It seems that with a 70-printers.rules as follows at least a correct service name is generated -- # Low-level USB device add trigger ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", ENV{ID_USB_INTERFACES}=="*:0701??:*", TAG+="udev-configure-printer", TAG+="systemd", PROGRAM="/bin/systemd-escape --template=udev-configure-printer@.service %p", ENV{SYSTEMD_WANTS}+="'%c'" # Low-level USB device remove trigger ACTION=="remove", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", ENV{ID_USB_INTERFACES}=="*:0701*:*", RUN+="udev-configure-printer remove %p" -- Note that in the first rule the systemd-escape command has NO "-p" option and that the %c for ENV{SYSTEMD_WANTS} has extra single quotes. Compared to the original file only these single quotes got added. After restarting UDEV with sudo udevadm control --reload and re-plugging the printer in most cases the service does not get started. systemctl status 'udev-configure-printer@-devices- pci:00-:00:14.0-usb2-2\x2d2.service' > status.txt gives something like -- ● udev-configure-printer@devices-pci:00-:00:14.0-usb2-2\x2d2.service - Automatic USB/Bluetooth printer setup (devices-pci:00-:00:14.0-usb2-2\x2d2) Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/udev-configure-printer@.service; static; vendor preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead) -- In such a case one can start the service manually with sudo systemctl start 'udev-configure-printer@-devices- pci:00-:00:14.0-usb2-2\x2d2.service' and this starts correctly udev-configure printer which sets up the printer (and starts ippusbxd if needed). In some very few cases the service actually gets correctly started (and the printer set up) when one plugs the printer, but this happens rarely (can there be some kind of race condition?). So this only rarely happening automatic start of the printer setup service is now the problem. The escaping seems to be fixed by the extra single quotes.

Thanks for the feedback, but "Fix released" means that there is actually released a newer package version which fixes the problem. [Bug 1718717] Re: cupsd crashed with SIGSEGV in avahi_entry_group_free()
Principally this kind of problem got already fixed and should not occur again with the cups-daemon 2.2.4-7 package or newer. It is possible that perhaps your /usr/sbin/cupsd file got somehow overwritten by an older version. So please try at first the following: sudo apt install --reinstall cups-daemon Then reboot the system and observe whether this makes the problem going away. Please report back here. ** Bug watch added: github.com/apple/cups/issues #5128 https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5128 ** Also affects: cups via https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5128 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718717 Title: cupsd crashed with SIGSEGV in avahi_entry_group_free() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cups/+bug/1718717/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1564249] Re: Cannot print a PDF with AcroForms using fit-to-page
For the time being (cups-filters 1.17.4) I have now applied a solution where pdftopdf detects PDF forms using QPDF (thanks to Tobias Hoffmann, smilingthax) and if there is a form uses and external utility for the flattening, preferrably pdftocairo, if not present, Ghostscript. After the flattening the original treatment by QPDF is performed. If none of the utilities is available, no form-flattening is performed (but as cups-filters-core-drivers depends on poppler-utils, pdftocairo is always there). The originally planned QPDF-based solution is still in the works and will most probably added in a later release of cups-filters. Therefore the QPDF task stays open. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1564249 Title: Cannot print a PDF with AcroForms using fit-to-page To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1564249/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1712019] Re: Driverless printing only prints a blank sheet 17.10
Great, thank you for the feedback. So my recommendation for getting a working printer is choose one which does driverless printing (the ones on which you can print from a phone: AirPrint, IPP Everywhere, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct). Or an HP, as HPLIP continues to be developed. I hope in the Google Summer of Code 2018 driverless scanning can be done. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1712019 Title: Driverless printing only prints a blank sheet 17.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1712019/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1712019] Re: Driverless printing only prints a blank sheet 17.10
I have now fixed the problem myself in the PPD generator in cups-filters (and added the changes as a pathc for CUPS to the CUPS upstream report). Also Mike Sweet seems to be back from vacation and has already read my numerous bug reports. So as soon as cups-filters 1.17.1-0ubuntu1 gets onto your system (package available on Artful) you can create a working print queue. [Bug 1712019] Re: Driverless printing only prints a blank sheet 17.10
Thank you for the tests. This means that the odd resolution (4800x1200 dpi) which got put into the "Normal" setting of the "cupsPrintQuality" option breaks it (as I assumed yesterday). You should be able to work around this if the print dialog of the application offers a "Print Quality" option where you can set "Draft" or "High". I have already posted a upstream bug report on CUPS: https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5091 The driverless PPD generator chooses resolutions for cupsPrintQuality settings badly Unfortunately, Mike Sweet, the author of CUPS, is currently on vacation, so it can take some time until he will read this bug report. Note that the PPD generator in cups-filters is a near 100% copy of the one of CUPS. I will look into fixing it there and then proposing a patch to CUPS. ** Bug watch added: github.com/apple/cups/issues #5091 https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5091 ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Triaged ** Also affects: cups-filters (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: cups-filters (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1712019 Title: Driverless printing only prints a blank sheet 17.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1712019/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please run ipptool with the full printer URI, like this: ipptool -tv ipp://EPSON25B56D.local:631/ipp/print get-printer- attributes.test > out.txt Attach the resulting output (here the file out.txt). make sure that attachments get the MIME type text/plain, as then one can easily read them in a web browser.
