[Bug 1797543] Re: Unable to update software - Button Restart & Update, restarts no updates applied

2018-10-15 Thread Tino Meinen
Thank you Robert Ancell and Steve Langasek.

Your patch fixed the issue.

I've updated gnome-software, gnome-software-common and gnome-software-
plugin-snap to version 3.30.2-0ubuntu4 (only those packages, I left
other available updates in the queue to be able to test the updated
version)

It now shows no updates available in the updates tab, and a tick mark with the
text Software is up to date in the main window.
(screenshot attached)

Thank you again for acting so quickly on this issue, I'm very impressed!

Thank you Sebastian for looking into this and confirming the bug.

I've added a screenshot nonetheless for people who currently don't have

and for completeness, the output of the commands are:

[Bug 1546634] Re: Is "Restart & Install" appropriate for Ubuntu

2018-10-12 Thread Tino Meinen
I see that the original bug was reported 18-02-2016. The title on this bug here
speaks about "Restart and Install" whereas the issue in our case, the button
has "Restart & Update".
Also, the status of this bug is "Fix released" (March 2016)

Summarising I think I should raise a new bug for this, as it seems to be
a new issue unrelated to the issue reported in this bug.

[Bug 1797543] [NEW] Gnome-software - unable to update software - Button Restart & Update, restarts no updates applied

2018-10-12 Thread Tino Meinen
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.10 beta (up to date as of 12-10-2018)
Ubuntu software 3.30.2

DESCRIPTION OF BEHAVIOUR
When updates are available, Ubuntu-Software shows updates are available in the
"Updates" tab.

One of the updates available shows "OS Updates"

The grey coloured heading right above the available updates, has
"Requires Restart" on the left and a green button "Restart & Update".

When the green button is clicked, a popup window appears immediately
showing "Restart, the system will restart automatically in 60 seconds"
counting down. The restart can be cancelled or activated.

When activated (either automatically or manually) the computer restarts
immediately and no software is being updated.

After logging in and starting up Ubuntu Software, the Updates tab checks
and then shows the same updates being available as before.

---
The button on the Updates tab should rather offer to update all available
software and only offer to restart the computer after the updates are completed.

[Bug 1764645] Re: Bluetooth not working

2018-08-04 Thread Tino Meinen
This is good news for the people using cosmic!

Will the fix be released for bionic too?

The Ubuntu wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BugTriage/BugStates
defines Fix Committed and Released as follows.

Fix Committed

Bugs that are marked Fix Committed are considered fixed by a patch which
as been committed to the Ubuntu kernel git repository. This does not
mean the fix has been released but it should be expected to be in the
next kernel upload. There is no determinate time when a kernel upload
will happen, it's up to the discretion of the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Fix Released

Bugs are moved to a Fix Released state when the fix is readily available
in the Ubuntu archive (in the updates pocket). If the Ubuntu kernel
developer correctly created the git commit message to include the
Launchpad Buglink, the launchpad janitor should automatically move a bug
from Fix Committed to Fix Released once the fix is officially available.

To summarise, the fix was committed upstream on 2018-06-04
The status of this bug was changed to Fix Committed on 2018-06-20 and also on
2018-07-25
A few new kernel releases for bionic, not containing the fix, have occurred
since those dates.

Did something go wrong in committing the fix to the bionic kernel?
Can we do anything to help getting the fix released for bionic?

[Bug 1158763] Re: Overlay Scrollbars are not present

2013-08-06 Thread Tino Meinen
As a workaround, you can disable the overlay scrollbars by entering in a
terminal screen:

set com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode normal

to get the old behaviour back:
gsettings reset com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode

If you still don't see scroll bars in gnumeric, then Ensure that the
boxes for Horizontal and Vertical scrollbars are ticked in gnumeric's
menu: View->View Properties...->Widgets

[Bug 1026678] Re: Playback stops when going from an ogg to a flac

2012-08-23 Thread Tino Meinen
I'm experiencing the same bug here.
Now, seeing that a similar playback-pausing issue on mp3 to ogg transitions
(lp: #921071) was fixed with a patched version of gst-plugins-base0.10
(0.10.36-1ubuntu0.1): "don't discard timestamps when consecutive input buffers
have the same ts", could it perhaps be, that a similar patch needs to be
applied to the handling of flac files in gst-plugins-base0.10 ?
Does anything stand out in the debug log?
Just guessing here.

[Bug 219252] Re: [Hardy] webcam stopped working after last kernel update

2011-04-27 Thread Tino Meinen
Thanks for looking into this nmathew.
The problem is when I want to compile the driver on ubuntu Natty 11.04 I get a
compile error:

r5u870/usbcam/usbcam.h:38:28: fatal error: linux/videodev.h: No such
file or directory

this is because videodev.h is no longer included in the 2.6.38 header files.
This problem was not in Maverick because the 2.6.35 header files still had
those header files included.

Thanks nmathew but these links are all about 0x183a (Sony Visual

[Bug 219252] Re: [Hardy] webcam stopped working after last kernel update

2011-04-27 Thread Tino Meinen
I have a Sony VIAO laptop here with a webcam with device ID 05ca:1830.
This is a Ricoh camera which needs the old r5u870 driver because this is a WDM
type camera not a UVC one.

Compiling the driver no longer works on Ubunty Natty 10.04 because the 2.6.38
kernel has dropped videodev.h
You get this error when compiling:
ricoh-webcam-r5u870-0.11.6/r5u870/usbcam/usbcam.h:38:28: fatal error:
linux/videodev.h: No such file or directory

In this thread
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-media@vger.kernel.org/msg27519.html
it is suggested one could copy the (needed) contents of videodev.h over to
libv4l1.h

Can anyone explain how to do that?
I'd like to get this webcam going under Natty.

[Bug 290325] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Belkin F5D6001 (rtl8180): Weak WLAN - Signal

2009-02-25 Thread Tino Meinen
Not only is it showing a weak signal, it is now dropping the connection
randomly, and when there is a connection, it is extremely inefficient.
Pinging the router, it drops about 22% of the packets. Ping times go op
to 40 seconds (not milliseconds! but seconds). So there is obviously
something fishy going on. Booting into windows, shows it can connect
easily and reliably.

This, card seemed to be working reasonably reliably up until a couple of days
ago. It would drop the connection once every 4 hours or so, but after
reconnection, you would be up to speed again,
I'm going through recent upgrades to see if there is a packet that might be the
cause of this.

[Bug 20310] Re: poor rendering

2007-09-10 Thread Tino Meinen
Yes, if you look closely xpdf does seem to render things a tiny bit better than
evince does.
At least speed is no longer an issue, because evince renders very vast.
(especially the latest 2.19.9x series with poppler 0.6).
But looking at the specific location pointed out by the screenshot, with the
diagram and the captions that go with it, you can see a difference. The
difference is more pronounced on LCD screens than on CRT screens. Not a large
difference, but a little difference non the less where evince/poppler looses
out shlightly on xpdf.

[Bug 132343] Regression: pdf with music notes is displayed wrong (scaling bug)

2007-08-13 Thread Tino Meinen
Public bug reported:

Using Evince 0.9.3-0ubuntu1 with poppler 0.5.9 (cairo) on Ubuntu gutsy
(beta, all packages updated to 14-aug 2007).

Evince is displaying a pfd containing music wrong: It appears as if the
notes are not scaled whereas the rest of the music (staffs, flags,
fingering) is scaled.

Evince 0.8.1 with poppler 0.5.4 (cairo) on Ubuntu feisty doesn't show
this scaling problem.

-If you zoom in (Ctrl-+) you'll see the size of every element of the
document increase, except for the notes. So apparently a scaling bug in
evince (or poppler?)

xpdf-common 3.02-1.1ubuntu1 on Gutsy displays the pfd file correctly.

I'll attach screenshots and the mentioned pdf file.

[Bug 72226] Re: All translations from the source not included

2007-08-13 Thread Tino Meinen
Jan Claeys, it's not only that Launchpad translations take priority, Older
Launchpad translations seem to take priority over newer Launchpad translations
as well.
I've experienced this in the coreutils package. I've meticulously corrected the
ubuntu package with the translations from upstream during the feisty beta
period. It was perfect for a short time. Just before the release of feisty, my
ubuntu launchpad translations for ubuntu feisty were overwritten with the old
launchpad versions. All my work was lost.

I've repeated the proces for the ubuntu package of coreutils in the
gutsy beta (tribe). I've uploaded the correct translations three weeks
ago. I just checked and the coreutils translation for gutsy is back to
the faulty version of 2007-04-13.

I'll redo the gutsy translation for coreutils in launchpad again in a
couple of days, but I'll bet my ass that they'll be reset to the old
translation just before release of the next tribe, again.

[Bug 20310] Re: poor rendering

2007-08-06 Thread Tino Meinen
The related bug is fixed upstream.
I checked with the latest version of evince in gutsy on 06-08-2007 (version
0.9.3, with poppler 0.5.9) and the rendering is fast and flawless.
I think this bug can be closed as FIXED

[Bug 51106] Re: Calculations by "date" are wrong

2007-08-04 Thread Tino Meinen
its also in coreutils 6.0 so it's upstream.
If you do:

date -d '11:40 8 minutes'

(so leave out the '+'), it gives the right answer: 11:48
11:40 60 seconds gives 11:41 (correct)
11:40 + 1 day gives correct answer
11:40 1 day gives correct anser.

With day, week, year, you can add the plus sign, (or minus sign) doesn't make
any difference.
With seconds, minutes and hours, date does strange things when you add a plus
or minus sign.

This is probably an upstream bug.

[Bug 130299] gutsy uses old version of coreutils

2007-08-03 Thread Tino Meinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: coreutils

Gutsy still uses coreutils 5.97 (released 24-06-2007) whereas upstream version
6.9 (released 22-03-2007) is already out.
See http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/ for the latest version.

Changes from 5.97 onward: ( copied from the News file)
---
* Noteworthy changes in release 6.9 (2007-03-22) [stable]

** Bug fixes

cp -x (--one-file-system) would fail to set mount point permissions

The default block size and output format for df -P are now unaffected by
the DF_BLOCK_SIZE, BLOCK_SIZE, and BLOCKSIZE environment variables. It
is still affected by POSIXLY_CORRECT, though.

Using pr -m -s (i.e. merging files, with TAB as the output separator)
no longer inserts extraneous spaces between output columns.

* Noteworthy changes in release 6.8 (2007-02-24) [not-unstable]

** Bug fixes

chgrp, chmod, and chown now honor the --preserve-root option.
Before, they would warn, yet continuing traversing and operating on /.

chmod no longer fails in an environment (e.g., a chroot) with openat
support but with insufficient /proc support.

"cp --parents F/G D" no longer creates a directory D/F when F is not
a directory (and F/G is therefore invalid).

"cp --preserve=mode" would create directories that briefly had
too-generous permissions in some cases. For example, when copying a
directory with permissions 777 the destination directory might
temporarily be setgid on some file systems, which would allow other
users to create subfiles with the same group as the directory. Fix
similar problems with 'install' and 'mv'.

cut no longer dumps core for usage like "cut -f2- f1 f2" with two or
more file arguments. This was due to a double-free bug, introduced
  in coreutils-5.3.0.

dd bs= operands now silently override any later ibs= and obs=
operands, as POSIX and tradition require.

"ls -FRL" always follows symbolic links on Linux. Introduced in
  coreutils-6.0.

  A cross-partition "mv /etc/passwd ~" (by non-root) now prints
a reasonable diagnostic. Before, it would print this:
"mv: cannot remove `/etc/passwd': Not a directory".

pwd and "readlink -e ." no longer fail unnecessarily when a parent
  directory is unreadable.

"rm -rf /etc/passwd" (run by non-root) now prints a diagnostic.
  Before it would print nothing.

"rm --interactive=never F" no longer prompts for an unwritable F

** New features

  sort's new --compress-program=PROG option specifies a compression
program to use when writing and reading temporary files.
This can help save both time and disk space when sorting large inputs.

sort accepts the new option -C, which acts like -c except no diagnostic
is printed. Its --check option now accepts an optional argument, and
--check=quiet and --check=silent are now aliases for -C, while
--check=diagnose-first is an alias for -c or plain --check.

* Noteworthy changes in release 6.7 (2006-12-08) [stable]

** Bug fixes

When cp -p copied a file with special mode bits set, the same bits
were set on the copy even when ownership could not be preserved.
This could result in files that were setuid to the wrong user.
To fix this, special mode bits are now set in the copy only if its
ownership is successfully preserved. Similar problems were fixed
with mv when copying across file system boundaries. This problem
affects all versions of coreutils through 6.6.

cp --preserve=ownership would create output files that temporarily
had too-generous permissions in some cases. For example, when
copying a file with group A and mode 644 into a group-B sticky
directory, the output file was briefly readable by group B.
Fix similar problems with cp options like -p that imply
--preserve=ownership, with install -d when combined with either -o
or -g, and with mv when copying across file system boundaries.
This bug affects coreutils 6.0 through 6.6.

du --one-file-system (-x) would skip subdirectories of any directory
listed as second or subsequent command line argument. This bug affects
  coreutils-6.4, 6.5 and 6.6.

* Noteworthy changes in release 6.6 (2006-11-22) [stable]

** Bug fixes

ls would segfault (dereference a NULL pointer) for a file with a
nameless group or owner. This bug was introduced in coreutils-6.5.

A bug in the latest official m4/gettext.m4 (from gettext-0.15)
made configure fail to detect gettext support, due to the unusual
way in which coreutils uses AM_GNU_GETTEXT.

** Improved robustness

Now, du (and the other fts clients: chmod, chgrp, chown) honor a
trailing slash in the name of a symlink-to-directory even on
Solaris 9, by working around its buggy fstatat implementation.

* Major changes in release 6.5 (2006-11-19) [stable]

** Bug fixes

du (and the other fts clients: chmod, chgrp, chown) would exit early
  when encountering an inacces

2007-07-22 Thread Tino Meinen
I just experienced this crash.
I installed Tribe3 (alternate version) which went fine.
After the reboot, I tried logging in, got a blank screen and couldn't use Ctrl
+ Alt F1 to go to a terminal. Had to reset and boot into a terminal. Apt-get
update and upgrade.
Logged in.
Compiz.real crashed. It got replaced automatically by a working window manager

I'm working on a stack trace now.

[Bug 85991] Re: beagle dutch translation error

2007-03-26 Thread Tino Meinen
Well upstream translation of that particular message is:
"Voeg hier de overige mappen toe die u geïndexeerd wilt hebben."
Which I think is far better.
But this is just one more example where the rosetta translation is not
following upstream translation. the only way to make rosetta use upstream
translation is to manually download the Rosetta translation, manually merge it
with upstream and manually upload it to Rosetta. In other words: very laborsome.
And no, I've tried uploading upstream translation directly into rosetta:
Rosetta silently swallows the file and does nothing with it. Nothing actually
gets merged.

Sigh.

[Bug 74259] Re: Nederlandse vertalingen Opties menu

2006-12-08 Thread Tino Meinen
I just had a look at the gdm translation in rosetta.
It's fubarred!

In any case, the relevant mgsid _Hibernate was according to Rosetta
wrongly translated to _Slaapstand by a person called Rintze Zelle on
2006-03-22.

But this module has fallen victim of the Rosetta/Launcpad/whatever bug where it
is using old obsolete translations to replace good valid current translations.
At some places it is using incorrect translations from november 2005, where it
shows a correct 'used elsewhere' suggestion from march 2006.

[Bug 49893] Re: Name of "Configure Printers" wrong

2006-06-16 Thread Tino Meinen
Right, these entries are in fact part of gnome-cups-manager. At the moment they
are translated as: "Printers configureren" (this is the menu-tooltip) and
"Printers" (this is the menu entry).
I'll add a comment in the msgid that "printing" should not be translated as
"bezig met afdrukken" here, to avoid future mistakes. But this should actually
be added in the source because there could be confusion for other translators
as well.

So in the next langpack update (once a month) the new translation should
land and all will be well.

In the meantime, you can change the menu-items and the descriptions
manually through the Alacarte menu editor.

Thanks for the bugreport though.

[Bug 49893] Re: Name of "Configure Printers" wrong

2006-06-16 Thread Tino Meinen
Hmm, gnome-cups-manager has
msgid: printing
msgstr:printers
with a suggestion in launchpad that it is translated elswhere as: Bezig met
afdrukken.

So this seems to be the reverse case. Unless the original English: "printing",
has a context of "about printing" or something I would never translate it
into: printers.
So this seems to bee wrong in gnome-cups-manager.

Could the reporter of the bug, please run his session in English once,
to see what the original English message really is?

Thanks
