[Bug 760724] [NEW] Missing symbolic links for pt-br dictionary in /usr/share/myspell/dicts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: myspell-pt-br $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch) Release:11.04 $ apt-cache policy myspell-pt-br myspell-pt-br: Installed: 20101030-1 Candidate: 20101030-1 Version table: *** 20101030-1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status en-us and it-it symbolic links exist in /usr/share/myspell/dicts. As a visible consequence, you can spell check in these languages in Firefox, for instance. Although myspell-pt-br is installed, there's no link for it in that same folder, so Firefox doesn't offer Brazilian Portuguese as a language for spell checking. I added them as root pointing to the hunspell dictionaries: $ ls -l /usr/share/myspell/dicts/pt* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2011-04-14 16:04 /usr/share/myspell/dicts/pt_BR.aff - ../../hunspell/pt_BR.aff lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2011-04-14 16:04 /usr/share/myspell/dicts/pt_BR.dic - ../../hunspell/pt_BR.dic When I restarted Firefox, Brazilian Portuguese was now an option for spell checking. On a side note, I wanted to as you: why are there two links for each language in /usr/share/myspell/dicts/? E.g. one is en-US (with dash) and the other is en_US (with underscore): $ ls -l /usr/share/myspell/dicts/en*.aff lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2011-04-13 13:41 /usr/share/myspell/dicts/en_US.aff - ../../hunspell/en_US.aff lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2011-04-13 13:41 /usr/share/myspell/dicts/en-US.aff - ../../hunspell/en_US.aff That makes Firefox recognize two different U.S. English dictionaries. This bug was bothering me too much and because of other (unrelated) reasons I decided to reinstall Ubuntu 11.04. After I reinstalled I did an apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade and rebooted. After the system was restarted the problem did not present itself. I will check if it comes back as I install some extra packages, such as DropBox's nautilus extension or the Open Terminal Here script or something. Will let you know if I find something out. If after everything the problem doesn't present itself, I'll mark this as invalid. [Bug 758522] Re: Nautilus unusable: every action takes CPU usage to 100% and freezes the UI for 10 seconds
I finally found out the issue! It turns out it has something to do with xdg-user-dirs. When Ubuntu was first installed, it created the usual xdg-user-dirs such as Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc. etc. It also creates a Templates folder, for which I have no use. However, I like the little icon it shows, so I change its name to Temp and use it as a temporary folder (stores anything I'm working with temporarily). Once I restored my backup and moved the old contents of Temp to the XDG Templates folder (which now was also called Temp), nautilus spiked 100% CPU usage and became unusable! My old Temp folder has 26,732 items, totaling 334.6 MB. I don't know if it is the number of items or the overall size that triggers the behavior. Can any developer try this and see if they can reproduce the issue? For now I'll just delete de Templates folder, move my old Temp back to ~/ and assign it an emblem, which will end up being the same for me, just without the 100% CPU issue :) Thanks again! [Bug 756867] Re: Pressing F10 then left arrow wit Unity on Natty makes the system unusable
Since the other bug that I commented on was marked as a duplicate of this one, I wanted to report my problem here as well. It's a big issue, I think even bigger than pressing F10 and then left, because nautilus has become useless for me and I have to do all my file operations on the console now. Steps to reproduce: 1 - Open a terminal and execute top to monitor CPU usage; 2 - Open nautilus; 3 - Switch to the terminal and observe that nautilus goes to 100% CPU usage for about 20 seconds, freezing its UI (can't do anything with it); 4 - Try to use nautilus (expand folder tree, select files, open a different folder) and the CPU goes to 100% again and the UI freezes for a while again. [Bug 754377] Re: unity-panel-service consuming 100% CPU when attempting to scrub through indicators.
When I open nautilus, it consumes almost 100% cpu and so does unity- panel-service. Nautilus takes at least 20 seconds to respond to any command (change folder, expand folder tree, etc.), taking the cpu to 100% each time. I don't know how to run unity-panel-service through strace. I imagine this is a packaging issue or have I failed to install the correct packages to make a X264 encoding? [Bug 751114] Re: ffmpeg unresolvable dependancies
If I understand correctly, there are two library sets that can be installed. The ones with -extra- libavcodec-extra-52 libavfilter-extra-1 libavutil-extra-50 libavdevice- extra-52 libavformat-extra-52 libpostproc-extra-51 libswscale-extra-0 Or the ones without: libavcodec52 libavfilter1 libavutil50 libavdevice52 libavformat52 libpostproc51 libswscale0 The ones without were installed in my system. When I issued the following command (obviously replacing the variables with meaningful information): ffmpeg -i $vidFile -an -pass 1 -vcodec libx264 -vpre slow_firstpass -b $BIT_RATE -bt $BIT_RATE -threads 0 $outFile I got the following error: Unknown encoder 'libx264' Then I installed the versions with -extra- in their names and that command worked. But that was only the 1st pass of the X264 encoding. When I proceeded to the 2nd pass: ffmpeg -y -i $vidFile -acodec libfaac -ab 128k -pass 2 -vcodec libx264 -vpre slow -b $BIT_RATE -bt $BIT_RATE -threads 0 $outFile I got the following error: Unknown encoder 'libfaac' I tried installing packages x264 and faac, but the problem persists. I wanna thank the developers in advance for working in a solution for this, as I'd like to resume X264 conversion of my AVI files. I fixed the problem. Probably something that I did in the past few days screwed up my locales. [Bug 554106] Re: Gnome Appearance Properties dialog hangs when changing desktop effects
@Joshua Lückers: thanks for the tip. It's weird that you can have CompizConfig Settings Manager installed without Compiz. I would have never imagined that Compiz wasn't installed. Now I have visual effects. However, the Appearance Preferences window and Keep Settings dialog are still hanging and I have to kill it to go away. At least now I got Visual Effects back. So I don't care too much if those windows hang because I'm not going to use them on a regular basis. But, again, if you want me to attach some outputs here at this report or create a new bug report using System Monitor let me know. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I've just updated the system and I still suffer the problem: the Appearance Preferences and its Keep Settings dialog still hang, I have to kill it and if I open it again visual effects are not enabled. I don't have two monitors or anything, just my laptop (HP 6730b). Let me know if you need me to run any commands and attach the outputs. [Bug 41651] Re: Created file doesn't appear on Open recent list unless opened through konqueror
@Matti @Francesco Yes, Francesco's solution solves partially the problem as I understand. The issue is that Kate (or KDE, or Linux, whatever) uses a different approach to the Recent documents functionality as one is used to. See OpenOffice for example. As I understand, the Recent documents are associated with a session. So if you configure Kate to create a new session every time, the Recent documents will always be empty after just opening the editor, hence the bug (between quotes, because it might be the intended behavior according to the developers). Having Kate reopen the same session as before brings back the Recent documents from the last session, but also automatically opens any documents which were open before. Personally, that's not the behavior I want. I want it to work like OpenOffice, for instance: when you start it, it comes with a blank document but the Recent documents menu is filled with the documents I opened in the previous sessions. Furthermore, this workaround of Load last-used session doesn't work if Kate is opened via double-click on a text file. When you do that, Kate will start a new session and the only document on the Recent documents list will be the one you've just opened. Again, that is not how OpenOffice (and many other editors) work. Although this is not a deal breaker and I'm 50% content with the Load last-used session solution, I do hope KDE developers change the behavior of the Recent documents list to be like OpenOffice. That's the intuitive meaning of this menu for me. They could even create two menus: Recent documents and Session documents, for instance. -- Created file doesn't appear on Open recent list unless opened through konqueror https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41651 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 41651] Re: Created file doesn't appear on Open recent list unless opened through konqueror
@Francesco: Good to know. Sessions are indeed a useful feature for a lot of people. However, for me it would be best if it behaved the intuitive way by default and allow for other behaviors through configuration. I confess, though, that intuitive is a matter for (a long) discussion, for which this is not the place. [Bug 278471] Re: Screen flickers with KDE4
Oh, I forgot to mention: changing the resolution doesn't do any good. I can't change refresh rate so I didn't try that. Also, disabling desktop effects doesn't solve the problem. [Bug 199165] Re: Automounting removable storage doesn't always honour the utf8 mount option
I put a 128 MB USB pen drive in a notebook with Windows Vista, asked to format it using FAT and then created a folder called Avião Rápido. It was the first Portuguese expression that I could think of that included a tilde, a blank space and an accent in the name. :) Removed it, plugged in my notebook with Kubuntu Intrepid (8.10) beta and the Devide Notifier popped up. I cliked in the devide and it opened Dolphin, showing the folder correctly, no weird characters. No problem at all... -- Automounting removable storage doesn't always honour the utf8 mount option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 199165] Re: Automounting removable storage doesn't always honour the utf8 mount option
Sorry for the typo: devide - device Since it happened twice, I can only conclude that there is a bug in my brain now :) -- Automounting removable storage doesn't always honour the utf8 mount option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 278471] Re: Screen flickers with KDE4
My flickering also works like ibi's. Not vertical lines, but redrawings of parts of the screen. An interesting fact: I recorded a video of the desktop using krecordmydesktop (frontend for recordmydesktop) and then I watched it in another computer (running Windows) and there is no flickering at the capture. recordmydesktop seems to receive the screen data before the monitor does, and somewhere between recordmydesktop and the monitor there's something wrong... Hope that helps (in case any of the developers knows how recordmydesktop words, it could). -- Screen flickers with KDE4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 277629] [NEW] Desktop grid locks X when something is being displayed full screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kwin [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release:8.10 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a Linux seattle 2.6.27-4-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 24 01:30:51 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux I installed Intrepid Alpha 6 and have been running apt-get update; apt- get upgrade daily. I believe I'm in sync with Intrepit Beta now. I have activated Desktop Effect Desktop Grid and set the bottom right corner of the screen as an activator for the feature. When something is full screen (tested with OpenOffice presentation and MPlayer video) and I move the mouse pointer to that corner, the pointer changes to the little hand but the desktop grid is not shown (maybe it's in the background). At this point, there's nothing else I can do except kill X (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), because I can neither select a desktop nor operate on the software that is occupying the full screen. I haven't tested throughly... Maybe other global shortcuts (Alt+F2?) work during the deadlock. Maybe the same thing happens with Present Windows feature. I'll leave that to you. Thanks. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Desktop grid locks X when something is being displayed full screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I believe I'm in sync with Intrepit Beta now. I can confirm that behavior. All of Kopete's notifications show on the top of the screen instead of besides the tray icon. That includes John Doe is now Online kind of notifications and also when someone sends you a message. Although in the case of messages, the notification comes and goes away in less than 1 second. Most of the time I'm not able to read them. [Bug 270917] Re: #include limits.h missing in /usr/include/linux/netfilter_ipv4.h
I find it strange that netfilter_ipv4.h uses limit.h constants but other source files that use netfilter_ipv4.h should include limit.h... That would make sense only if there are different limit.h and you can choose which one you want to use. However, since I have *no* experience with the development of a Linux distro, let's leave it as it is...
