[Bug 1910127] [NEW] Could not calculate the upgrade from18.04 to 20.04
Public bug reported: Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This was likely caused by: * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and try the upgrade again. If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'. [Bug 1818807] [NEW] Overriding functions in the default namespace

** Description changed: This has been ongoing since 2010 ... [Bug 220407] Re: Cannot change screen brightness on Fujitsu T2010 laptop in Intrepid
Is anyone looking at this? I've tried the two hacks posted and neither of them work for me on the HP Pavilion. It's troubling if this hasn't been addressed after a year. Screen brightness is a health and safety concern. It may seem like a small issue, but being able to see the screen comfortably is pretty pivotal to most tasks that involve a computer. [Bug 368427] Re: No sound in Ubuntu 9.04
This now appears to have been mostly resolved following a recent update... although headphone detection/playback is only working on one speaker (the one that I managed to get sound through before). Still, it's great to have the speakers and microphone back in action, as well as one headphone socket, and to not have to use a python diagnostic tool to manually enable sound every time I reboot the laptop :) -- No sound in Ubuntu 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 368427] Re: No sound in Ubuntu 9.04
Having put my faith in Ubuntu, and upgraded to the new version at the end of April, I've now been left with pretty much no audio for the best part of six weeks. It's meant I'm unable to use the internet telephony I rely on to stay in touch with relatives and friends in my home country, and has seriously impacted my ability to use my laptop for it's primary purpose since I am a language professional. The bug was reported to the Alsa team on May first, and support was forthcoming until it was shown that the problem was not my misconfiguration but a genuine problem with the drivers, as revealed by their own tools (HDA-analyzer, which - coincidentally - I even had to amend from the faulty script they provide on their website in order to use). Since identifying some technical features of the problem that may actually give us the information needed for a fix, nobody on the Alsa team has responded. There has been extremely little support from the Ubuntu team, as can be seen from this bug report. If this were a new install of Ubuntu, I would expect these kinds of problems - but for a standard upgrade to wipe out functionality that was previously working fine really should raise serious questions about how code is managed on this project. Perhaps someone can explain what is going on to restore this functionality... or perhaps I should start looking again at other distributions. -- No sound in Ubuntu 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 368427] Re: No sound in Ubuntu 9.04

[Bug 328869] Re: New! Sound vanished from speakers. Sound from USB headset only.
Just found Bug #272321 where a problem with PCM output being muted without user intervention and a crackling noise while muted has been identified: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/272321 Un-muting PCM has solved this issue for me, but I don't memorize the status of all my audio sliders (and they're not all at max usually) so this is a really, really frustrating problem that appears to have been going on for FIVE MONTHS. Why isn't someone on the PulseAudio team sorting this out? This is wasting hours of users time! -- New! Sound vanished from speakers. [Bug 272321] Re: noise (crackling) when muting PCM volume and audio is playing
This bug is still appearing; today I spent several hours trying to debug my sound drivers when a PulseAudio update had muted PCM (not all my sliders are at max by default, and I don't memorize where they all are - so not easy to find) and then produced just crackling instead of sound. Then I run across this bug and it's been going on for five months!! Update: I've now fixed this problem on my laptop by re-setting the PCM volume to max - see this existing bug for details: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/272321 If this fixes the problem for you perhaps this bug should be updated to point to the PCM one (272321) so users can report that it has affected them and ensure the correct priority is assigned. -- [8.10] no sound anymore https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/325547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 220407] Re: Cannot change screen brightness on Fujitsu T2010 laptop in Intrepid
Here's the /tmp/hal.log file for my HP DV3507ea with NVidia GeForce 9300GS card. I pressed the brightness down button three times, then another three times. Then I pressed the brightness up button three times, then another three times. Then I unplugged the power, then plugged it back in, twice - but the brightness box didn't come up this time for some reason. [Bug 220407] Re: Cannot change screen brightness on Fujitsu T2010 laptop in Intrepid
Ok, the fix probably doesn't apply to me. In terms of behaviour, it does appear to be exactly the same bug, though - I press the buttons and the little brightness symbol appears, and looks like it is being increased or decreased, but the screen brightness stays exactly the same. I unplug the power and the little brightness symbol also appears at 50%, but again the actual screen brightness doesn't change. [Bug 220407] Re: Cannot change screen brightness on Fujitsu T2010 laptop in Intrepid
Hi Duyn, Thanks for the info you've posted. I just tried upgrading the kernel as suggested but it didn't like the NVidia drivers (and in basic graphics mode it wouldn't let me change the brightness, which doesn't auger well). I've tried using the xrandr command but this is what happens: vwil...@hp-pavilion:~$ xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native X Error of failed request: 183 Major opcode of failed request: 156 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 15 () Serial number of failed request: 14 Current serial number in output stream: 14 vwil...@hp-pavilion:~$ xbacklight No outputs have backlight property Any tips on what I'm getting wrong here? Any pointers much appreciated. It'd be great to get this sorted out, before people's eyes start bleeding. I don't want to have to go back to Vista. [Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend
Hi folks, I appear to be having exactly the same problem on a brand new HP DV3507EA (arrived from HP yesterday :D ). It produces errors with both hibernate and suspend. This is the first time I've ever used linux so I'm sorry I really don't know how to use those two tools dmesg and lspci, but I have made these notes of the errors that appear on hibernate: btusb_intr_complete: hci0 urb fff8800bcdea300 failed to resubmit(2) ata2: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr action 0x9 t4 ata2: irq_stat 0x00400040, connection status changed ata1: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr action 0x9 t4 ata1: irq_stat 0x00400040, connection status changed ata1.00 exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen ata1.00: cmd ea/00 . (lots of 0s I didn't write down) tag0 res.. (more long 0s I didn't write down) Emask 0x4 timeout ata1.00 revalidation failed (err no=-5) This is very confusing atm - as I say I'm new to linux and I really want to give it a go, but I do also really need hibernate and suspend to work on my laptop! [Bug 133982] Re: Kubuntu 7.10 doesn't print anything (HP Deskjet 710c)
I too ran into problems trying to get CUPS to recognise and initialise my HP Deskjet 710c on a Xubuntu Hardy Heron. The tips here enabled me to print the test page successfully. Note that Xubuntu users will not have gedit so use this: sudo mousepad /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd I added the /etc/* r, immediately after the line: /usr/lib/** rm, I stopped the apparmor with: sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor stop and re-ran the CUPS link to detect my printer. All is well! Note that there is a typo in a post above - there is an r missed out in apparmor which of course makes for a meaningless command. My thanks to the contributors to this thread.
