[Bug 1818186] Re: Xsane does not scan only the area which is framed after "preview", and images are too dark/saturated.

[Bug 1818371] Re: Simple Scan images are too dark at resolutions > 75ppi.
Ubuntu 18.04.2 Canon Pixma TS6220 These issues are similar to an earlier bug (#1818186) that I reported regarding the operation of Xsane. 1) The output always contains the images of what ever is on the platen on a "full size" white background; i.e., unlike scangearmp2, if there is a 4” x 6” photo on the platen, the output is a letter size white background with the 4” x 6” image scaled down. 2) Only images at resolutions of 75 ppi are acceptable. When cropped in Gimp, and size adjusted to 4” x 6”, this works out to 300 ppi. The scanned image of photos at all resolutions greater than 75 ppi are very dark/saturated – beyond my ability to correct. 3) The adjustments for Brightness and Contrast have little, if any, affect on the output for scans at resolutions > 75 ppi. If I can be of any assistance in “testing”, please let me know. [Bug 1818371] [NEW] Simple Scan does not scan only the area which is framed after "preview"
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 18.04.2 Canon Pixma TS6220 These issues are identical to an earlier bug (#1818186) that I reported regarding the operation of Xsane. 1) I am able to move the dashed lines to frame the print to be scanned, but the output always contains the images of what ever is on the platen on a "full size" white background. 2) I have selected “inches” as the unit of measurement, but the preview window has “px” in the upper left corner, and the dimensions in the windows at the bottom of the main menu are in pixels. These dimensions do not change as I adjust the frame of the photo to be scanned and always read 2480*3507*24 (24.9MB). 3) There are no length markings along the side or top of the preview window. 4) In Advanced Options, the UOM displays “px”. The sliders change as I adjust the frame, but for a 4” x 6” photo in the upper left corner, the lower right corner is shown to be .00235x, .00154y. 5) The scanned image of the photos is very dark/saturated – beyond my ability to correct. 6) Max scan resolution in the main menu is only 300, whereas it is 1200 with the HP scanner. Issues started after upgrading to 16.04. The previous kernel that was in use was 3.13.0-86, which had no operating issues. I have installed 4.12.0-0412004rc4-generic which is now in use. I cannot access the internet with cable, but can with wireless. The keyboard and mouse have not locked up as they did with 4.4.0-78, altho they do not operate smoothly. [Bug 1628150] [NEW] Xsane will not scan complete document in "lineart" mode
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 16.04.1 Xsane .999 Scanner is All-in-1 HP Photosmart 6520 Scanning function operates normally when the scan mode in the main window is set at either Color or Gray. With scan mode at Lineart, the "Preview" function shows the complete document, but when "Scan" is selected the scan bar travels a very short distance and returns to its normal docking position. The resultant image shows only the top 5-10% of the document. The window left of the "Scan" button, showing the size of the image, always shows 1MB for the Lineart scan, but 24 MB for a Color scan (either PNG or JPEG). Output of: $ hp-scan -m lineart -r 100 -o tempa.png HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.16.3) Scan Utility ver. 2.2 Copyright (c) 2001-15 HP Development Company, LP This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Got some guidance from here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds. "Quiet Splash" was removed earlier from the BIOS. Bootup ended at ~2.5 sec showing "---[end Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance". I let it sit for ~50 mins but no progress. Rebooted using the "recovery mode" and "upstart" and got the same results. [Bug 1307069] Re: gpu-manager causing long startup delays
Is the fix available for Ubuntu 15.10? My bootup takes about 1 min from grub to when my desktop appears. Gpu-manager.service consumes about 18 seconds (from systemd-analyze). [Bug 1082941] Re: Duplex printing in LibreOffice not working
I have Ubuntu 13.10 w/ Libreoffice 4.1.3.2, an HP 6520 and HPLIP v 3.14.4. After selecting file/print/properties, in the new window the option for Duplex shows Off. If I change that to Long-Edge, then OK, and then select Properties again, Duplex shows Off again. However, if I change Off to ignore, then OK, and then select Properties again, now Duplex shows Long Edge and the printer prints on both sides! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1082941 Title: Duplex printing in LibreOffice not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1082941/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 990564] [NEW] Evolution does not launch
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Evolution 2.28.3. This morning (4/27/12) I launched Evolution, then closed it. Now when I click on the launch icon, the Evolution window displays for a fraction of a second, then disappears. I have tried shutting the computer down and rebooting, but the results are the same. The response to evolution in the terminal is: :~$ evolution ** (evolution:2110): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s ** (evolution:2110): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution Segmentation fault TIA, Bill ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990564 Title: Evolution does not launch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/990564/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 916274] Re: Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out.
I should add to my post #5 that when I originally posted this problem as a bug, there were no spinner progress indicators that appeared at anytime during the sequence of actions that I had executed. Also, I had a thought at that time that maybe the problem was related to Firefox needing time to unwind, so I did attempt, on at least 2 occasions, a sequence of steps w/ long delays between steps, but still got the same messages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916274 Title: Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out. Re: [Bug 916274] Re: Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out.
Dave: Update - Resolved As of today (or yesterday - not absolutely sure), this problem I believe has been fixed (by recent updates?). In scenario #2, if I close out Firefox and then quickly reopen, the message box re Firefox still running will appear; however, if I close that message box, a spinner progress indicator will appear. Now, if I wait until the spinner disappears, and then reopen Firefox, it opens OK. Likewise, for scenario #1, if I attempt a shutdown of Ubuntu too quickly after closing Firefox, I will get the message A program is still running: ... If I close this message, a spinner progress indicator as above appears, and I can successfully execute a shutdown after the indicator disappears. Evidently, it is necessary to allow Firefox sufficient time to unwind the websites (tabs) that are displayed in the window or these messages will appear. The fix is that it is not necessary to restart Ubuntu to reset Firefox - just wait until the spinner progress indicator disappears. Re: [Bug 916274] Re: Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out.
Dave: OK. I got into the default folder and found lock, but not .parents. I deleted lock, shutdown firefox, restarted ubuntu, and was able to launch firefox w/o re-installing it. When closing firefox and shutting down ubuntu, I still get the message A program is still running: firefox-bin which has below it buttons to lock screen, cancel, or shutdown anyway - i.e., no change. [Bug 916274] [NEW] Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out.
Public bug reported: I am running Firefox 3.6.24 which was installed with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. There are 2 scenarios: 1) I close Firefox, then attempt an Ubuntu shutdown. A message appears (paraphrasing) Firefox is still running, do I want to shutdown anyway? This happen ~20% of the time. 2) I close Firefox, and the icon in the bottom tray disappears, but if I click on the Firefox icon at the top to restart Firefox, a message appears Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. Even after the Firefox icon in the bottom tray disappears again, I cannot restart Firefox w/o getting that message. If I then restart Ubuntu, I can re-open Firefox. This happens ~10% of the time. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916274 Title: Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out. [Bug 912506] [NEW] Not getting reminders/alarms for birthdays/anniversaries/appointments
Public bug reported: I am using Evolution 2.28.3 which was installed with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When I execute 'apt-cache policy evolution', I get 'evolution: Installed: 2.28.3-0ubuntu10.3' In my contacts, I have entered birthdays and anniversaries. These events show on the Birthday Anniversary calendar. In my efforts to get the reminders to work, I also added some of these events to the Personal calendar. In Edit/preferences/alarms, I have both calendars checked, and have tried Display alarms in notification area only checked and unchecked. I am still not getting any reminders/alarms/sound/pop-up/notification/etc. I have noticed that Evo calendar on the left side has the dates for these events in italics, and that the date/time applet has these dates in bold font (neither of which is very noticeable - a change in font color would be better). Also, when I open an event in the personal calendar and make it all day and save, then open again, the changes are not saved. Lastly, since I have not seen a reminder, where is the notification area? Besides the calendar reminders, et al I would also like to have an email sent to me. What do I need to do to get these to work?
