[Bug 1507753] [NEW] arm package fails to pass doubles from python to C++
Public bug reported: The ARMv7 packaged version of python-omniorb fails to properly pass doubles from python client to C++ server. For some reason, rebuilding the package from source solves the issue so I'm unsure of how / where the problem originates. Steps to reproduce on an Ubuntu14.04 machine: 1. Grab and sudo extract the arm root file system linaro-trusty-developer-20140522-661.tar.gz from here http://releases.linaro.org/14.05/ubuntu/trusty-images/developer/ 2. Make sure you have the following installed on the host machine: qemu- user-static debootstrap binfmt-support 3. Copy the qemu-arm-static and resolv.conf into the rootfs eg. sudo cp /usr/bin/qemu-arm-static /my/rootfs/usr/bin/ sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf /my/rootfs/etc/ 4. chroot into the arm rootfs: eg. sudo chroot /my/rootfs 5. install python-omniorb 6. Use Example 2 from here to create a simple C++ server except change the IDL to take in and echo a double: http://omniorb.sourceforge.net/omni40/omniORB/omniORB002.html 7. Use Example 2 from here to create a simple python based client using the same IDL generated in step 6 above. http://omniorb.sourceforge.net/omnipy3/omniORBpy/omniORBpy002.html I used the value 6.12346, going from python -> python it works fine, going from c++ -> c++ fine, however going from python -> C++ I get Upcall -6.42765e+247 Floats also work fine and the problem only seems to exist with doubles. Upping the logging to 40 in omniORB.cfg, it looks as though the word order is swapped. Even odder, if I sudo apt-get source python-omniorb and then rebuild the package using dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b (Which I thought should produce an identical output) those packages work just fine. [Bug 899841] [NEW] Blank screen on booting Ubuntu 11.10 from RAID
Public bug reported: I run a network of machines each having 4 hard drives. Most are installed as JBOD (just a bunch of disks), but some are installed as RAID, where / is on a RAID1 device. After upgrading to 11.10, the RAID machines display a blank screen right at the beginning of the boot process and stop there - most of the time. The system does respond to Ctrl+Alt+Del at that state, and, every once in a while after many successive reboots, the system does boot successfully. I tested this on two different hardware configurations (nVidia chipset and Intel chipset) and with both 64- and 32-bit Ubuntu with no difference in results. The JBOD machines do not suffer from this issue. Turning off modesetting does not seem to help. Given that the non-RAID (jBOD) setup works fine, I am thinking the issue is probably a GRUB+RAID issue, not a graphics issue. I noticed in 11.10 that /boot/grub/grub.cfg uses mduuid/* as opposed to md/*. Could that have something to do with the problem? I wonder if there is a preseed configuration to instruct grub-installer to use md/* instead of mduuid/*. ** Affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/899841 Title: Blank screen on booting Ubuntu 11.10 from RAID To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/899841/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 886474] [NEW] Poor audio quality with ffcook
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 (libavcodec-extra-53 4:0.7.2.1ubuntu1), audio quality during playback of FFmpeg COOK streams (ffcook), found in RealMedia files, is poor as a buzz is present during the full length of the stream. This is a regression since Ubuntu 11.04, where FFmpeg COOK streams played back with good audio quality. [Bug 370597] Re: Screen tearing at top of screen with VSync enabled on Compiz with fullscreen OpenGL programs
i can confirm this on ubuntu 9.04 using the provided nvidia diver (180) and also on driver version 185 ! If we set unredirect fullscreen windows on, the tearing on fullscreen stops completely. But this results in blinking whenever we right-click in the fullscreen app: the desktop shows and then re-disappears, and this is VERY annoying rendering the fullscreen experience an unbearable one. If we set the option unredirect fullscreen windows off, the blinking stops completely but the tearing comes back in a horrible break line at the top of the screen. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Tags added: compiz fullscreen nvidia -- Screen tearing at top of screen with VSync enabled on Compiz with fullscreen OpenGL programs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370597 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

hey i want to reopen this bug because the problem STILL persists in intrepid, and it's very annoying and renders the ubuntu visual experience awful. I'll attach two more files so that you can see what i mean. Take the screensaver solarwinds for example (jiggly variation). It should look like coloured disks doing some motion with blur. [Bug 275478] [NEW] Dpi scale wrong
Public bug reported: i noticed that when using the same default font dpi (96dpi), windows tends to offer a lot more working space than ubuntu ! Actually u can check, the buttons and widgets in ubuntu are yoo large ! I'm not just reporting this for the aesthetics but it's a major usability problem. Think about it, in windows, thanks to the compact widgets, a program with a LOT of options and options would fit on the screen but the same program, if designed for ubuntu, would need a much larger screen to fit. I can fix this in ubuntu by choosing 83 as font dpi, thus making the fonts smaller and fit more text in 1 scree. But this does not always fix the oversized widgets problem. This shoul really be investigated because a program like photoshop gets some good working space in windows, but if EVER ported to linux it wouldn't have half of that space since the precious screen space would be wasted on oversized widgets. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Dpi scale wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275478 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So this has disabled many good looking effects when working with the GUI. [Bug 222803] [NEW] Java broken in openoffice hardy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org it seems that after an upgrade to hardy, the oopenoffice java configuration file becomes obsolete and doesn't get renewed ($HOME/.openoffice.org2/user/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml). That leaves java non-working by default in the openoffice shipped with hardy. A sure fix is to delete the file, openoffice recreates it upon restart. But it would be great if you guys made an update to hardy and patched the file (acutally the problem seems that the file still refers to java jre 1.6.03). This is a 100% sure fix it has been tested and confirmed by almost all of the people who suffered from the error. I urge you canonical to take action by issuing the required update, especially seeing this is an enterprise release.
