[Bug 2062501] Re: Dhcpcd prioritizes (unconnnected) LAN adapter over WLAN, causing a 5 min boot delay

2024-04-20 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Thank you for helping debug this issue. I concur with your assessment.
- this should be handled by aoetools (probably similar to the way nfs versus
nfsroot is handled).

2024-04-19 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Sure - please find enclosed /run/initramfs/initramfs.debug

It looks like the problem is caused by `configure_networking` from
`/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions` which is called due to
the installed `aoetools` package (which calls `configure_networking` in
`/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/aoe`).

[Bug 2062501] [NEW] Dhcpcd prioritizes (unconnnected) LAN adapter over WLAN, causing a 5 min boot delay

2024-04-19 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04, dhcpcd spends over five minutes trying to
obtain a DHCP lease for an unconnected LAN adapter during startup.
Only after this process times out, the boot process resumes.

Consequently, startup works flawlessly, if the laptop is connected to
the LAN, but takes five additional minutes, if that's not the case.

Please find below the console output (obtained by pressing "ESC" during
bootup)

Setting ip link enp0s... up
Setting ip link enx0... up
dhcpcd-10.0.6 starting
dev: loaded udev
no interfaces have a carrier
exiting due to oneshot
Sleeping 30 seconds before retrying getting a DHCP lease
dhcpcd-10.0.6 starting

exiting due to oneshot
Sleeping 60 seconds before retrying getting a DHCP lease
...
dhcpcd-10.0.6 starting
dev: loaded udev
no interfaces have a carrier
exiting due to oneshot
Sleeping 120 seconds before retrying getting a DHCP lease

After multiples tries to obtain a DHCP lease (which take approximately five
minutes) the standard boot process resumes.

I am going to close this, please open a new bug.

This is has been marked as fixed for 13 years old and has more than 20
users that get notified when things change here, and my guess is that
they really don't want to be bothered about this particular PDF that
fails, because for them it works, if it didn't work, they would have
reopened this bug shortly in these 13 years that the bug was marked as
fixed.

[Bug 1970898] [NEW] unable to use nfs client to mount nfs in Ubuntu 22.04

2022-04-29 Thread Albert Vilella
Public bug reported:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1405231/unable-to-mount-nfs-on-
ubuntu-22-04

I've installed Ubuntu 22.04 on a machine and I am trying to mount an NFS
share which has no problems mounting on an array of other Linux Ubuntu
machines (21.04, 20.04, 18.04, etc.).

The command we use is:

```
sudo apt install nfs-common # Only required once for installation
sudo mount -t nfs 10.234.123.11:/bfx_share1 /bfx_share1
```

If I do a:
```
sudo showmount -e 10.234.123.11
```
It shows the list of possible mounts, so everything is kosher in that respect.

It's just stuck there, not doing anything. Any ideas? Anything I can do
or add to debug the situation? Any other clients not `nfs-common`?

I've installed `nfstrace` and while trying to mount the nfs folder, I
kicked it off in another terminal, to obtain the prompt below:

```
There is a section:
```
UDP disabled for NFS mounts
Since Ubuntu 20.10 (“Groovy Gorilla”), the kernel option
CONFIG_NFS_DISABLE_UDP_SUPPORT=y is set and this disables using UDP as the
transport for NFS mounts, regardless of NFS version.

In practice, if you try to use udp, you will get this error:

$ sudo mount f1:/storage /mnt -o udp
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified

###

NFS server
The NFS server and client packages have finally been updated to the latest
upstream version.

All NFS services now read their configuration from /etc/nfs.conf and
/etc/nfs.conf.d/*.conf, which is an INI-style configuration file, where
each section is about one daemon or aspect of the NFS service. The old
/etc/defaults/nfs-* configuration files are still left around, but are
unused.

During upgrade, a conversion script is run if the package detects that
the /etc/default/nfs-* files have been changed. This script is
/usr/share/nfs-common/nfsconvert.py and it will read the options from
/etc/defaults/nfs-* and generate /etc/nfs.conf.d/local.conf, which
overrides the defaults in /etc/nfs.conf.

If the conversion script fails for some reason, the package installation
or upgrade will fail, and the issue will have to be resolved. Please
file a bug against nfs-utils in Launchpad 2 if you encounter such a
scenario.

A new tool called nfsconf(8) can be used to query the configuration
settings of /etc/nfs.conf and /etc/nfs.conf.d/*.conf.

##

the CTDB package was adjusted to work with the new NFS server version
shipped in this Ubuntu 22.04

Fix crash when cups returns jobs with duplicate id

Summary:
For some reason my cups was giving me two withheld jobs with id 33 and two with
id 40

That made the JobModel code crash, because it went like this

 * First job with id 33 found
 * insertRow with 0 called
 * Row 0 inserted
 * Job at row 0 updated (from inside insertRow)
 * Second job with id 33 found
 * The "oh i already have this job code triggers", updates the job, then
takesRow 0 and inserts at row 1. QStandardItemModel doesn't like getting a row
add at 1 inserted when empty
 * First job with id 40 found
 * insertRow with 2 called
 * Row 2 inserted, it fails, QStandardItemModel doesn't like getting a row add
at 2 when empty
 * Job at row 2 updated (from iniside insertRow)
 * Crash because there's no row 2 in the model

Test Plan: Doesn't crash anymore with my weird cups list of pending jobs

[Bug 1942759] Re: No touchpad detected on 'HP ZBook Firefly G8 (1G3U1AV)' after fresh install

2021-11-08 Thread Albert Seligmann
@herwich
I haven't had any success with audio either, I even tried SOF drivers.

Everything looks to be working on 20.04, so perhaps it is possible to backport
some changes or identify driver changes between 18.04 and 20.04.
However, I don't think I'll spend much more time on this.

2021-11-07 Thread Albert Seligmann
@herwich
I am in the same situation as you, since I also need to be on 18.04 for now.

I am having trouble with the display driver as well. My model is equipped with
an NVIDIA T500 (same as yours), but installing any NVIDIA display driver higher
than version 390 fails and drops be in tty mode.
Have you had success with using display drivers other than nomodeset?

[Bug 1939177] Re: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS kernel 5.11.0-25 zfs send | receive broken

2021-08-09 Thread Michael Albert
I want to confirm that I'm also facing the same issue and that adding
the --no-resume option does indeed fix the issue for syncoid.

It does seem like the correct solution is to update the ZFS tools in the
HWE stack when the kernel is updated. However, there does not seem to be
a way to do this (short of compiling from source, which I would really
like to avoid). Is there any possibility of moving the LTS HWE stack to
a model where the ZFS tools are updated when the kernel module is
updated?

[Bug 1913717] [NEW] texmaker - start new instance, documentation and logging missing

2021-01-29 Thread Albert Zeyer
Public bug reported:

I have already started another TexMaker instance (in another virtual
desktop).

Now I wanted to start a new instance. I.e. I started:

texmaker file.tex

Nothing happened at all. It immediately quit without any message. Also
the other running TexMaker instance did not open the file. Just nothing.

What would I have expected:

- A new instance would start.
- At least some message like "another instance is already running".
- Maybe the other instance would open the file. Or maybe not. (I think it is
fine, because almost always, I don't want to change the opened file in the
other instance - almost always, I would want to open a new instance.)

Because nothing happened at all, I thought this would be a bug. Only
some strace debugging indicated that it is probably behaving correctly.

The main bug report though:

I wondered how I could start a new instance. So I ran:

texmaker -h
texmaker --help

Again just nothing at all. No message.

Then I checked the man page. The man page doesn't tell anything about
it.

In some forum post (https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/126412
/multiple-texmaker-windows), I read about the undocumented option `-n`.
With that option, it works as intended:

texmaker -n file.tex

To summarize, that could be already like three individual bug reports:

- Man page should tell about `-n`.
- `texmaker -h` should always output something, even if another instance is
running.
- `texmaker file.tex` should print some message if another instance is running.

[Bug 1852002] Re: Desktop frozen for 30 seconds after Nvidia driver crash

2021-01-08 Thread Albert Zeyer
I think I have a very related (or the same) error (or multiple errors).
A lot of logs here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1236721/desktop-hung-up-freeze-gpuwatchdog-segfault-nvidia-frontend-close

(Not sure if they are all the same cause, or different... I think they
are the same.)

When you search the Internet for "NVRM: Xid 31" errors, you will find
quite a lot of results, also a lot of recent results.

In my (most recent) case, I have Nvidia driver 450.80.02, and Linux
kernel 5.4.0-59.

[Bug 1906956] [NEW] Long sink/source names cause unreasonably sized window

Public bug reported:

Very long sink/source names, such as those created when using
pulseaudio's module-echo-cancel, force the pavumeter window to be wide

[Bug 1898547] Re: neutron-linuxbridge-agent fails to start with iptables 1.8.5

2020-11-06 Thread Albert Damen
I have verified the fixed package, see attached terminal output.

Steps taken:
- check package version
- verify nf_tables is used
- check default chains have not been created yet
- run test case
- check if default chain has been created

After that I upgraded the iptables packages on my neutron and compute hosts and
rebooted them. Without any manual intervention the linuxbridge-agent was
started and I could start a new instance which entered the "Running" state and
had network connectivity.
The linuxbridge-agent logs did not contain errors regarding iptables after the
reboot.

iptables-nft: fix basechain policy configuration

Previous to this patch, the basechain policy could not be properly
configured if it wasn't explictly set when loading the ruleset, leading
to iptables-nft-restore (and ip6tables-nft-restore) trying to send an
invalid ruleset to the kernel.

chromium. Too many issues with snap packages in general make it not worth the
trouble.

2020-09-22 Thread Albert Lee
This is occurring for me on focal with 3.36.1-0ubuntu0.20.04.0. It seems
to affect all deb packages.

[Bug 1872671] Re: [Focal] Policy files are missing

2020-08-15 Thread Albert Damen
I created a new horizon host on bionic with bionic/ussuri and installed
openstack-dashboard.

openstack-dashboard:
  Installed: 3:18.3.2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~cloud0

apache error log showed many errors about missing policy files
admin panel was visible while logged in as non-admin user

I enabled bionic/ussuri-proposed and upgraded openstack-dashboard

openstack-dashboard:
  Installed: 3:18.3.2-0ubuntu0.20.04.2~cloud0

no error messages about missing policy files
admin panel was not visible for non-admin user
started and deleted new instance as non-admin user
switched to admin user and verified admin operations still worked

[Bug 1891235] [NEW] Upon resume from sleep the mouse is down upon moving it, selecting text and dragging icons

2020-08-11 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

In this Thinkpax X1 Yoga, the touchscreen is managed by this wacom
driver. After a few sleep/resume cycles (maybe 4 or 5), the mouse starts
acting up: upon moving the mouse, it acts as if it was also down,
selecting text or dragging icons in nautilus. It is as if upon click and
then move, the mouse is never released, even if it has been.

To work around the issue, do:

sudo modprobe -r wacom
sudo modprobe wacom

Then launch google chrome from the menus. Result? 1229 is recreated, and
current points to it again. That's unexpected.

[Bug 1888674] Re: chromium doesn't launch when using --user-data-dir

2020-07-23 Thread Albert Cardona
More info: if I change permissions from 700 to 755 with chmod 755 the
~/snap/chromium/1213/.config/ folder, then the error changes, which
makes no sense: it's my user who is launching this process in any case.

Now the error message is a bit different, still a "permission denied"
for SingletonLock:

[Bug 1888674] [NEW] chromium doesn't launch when using --user-data-dir

2020-07-23 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

The command to launch:

The error:

Some background: was able to use a similar command for years. Then recently
when chromium was packed into a snap, I had to move my user directory inside
the ~/snap/ folder or it wouldn't launch. After the latest update, I can't
launch chromium at all.

Please advice. Thank you.

As of July 2nd, again I can't start chromium after having rebooted

indicates a lack of removal of temporary symlinks named SingletonLock

[Bug 1887396] [NEW] chromium-browser doesn't start

2020-07-13 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

Upon launching chromium-browser from the terminal with the command:

$ chromium-browser --user-data-dir=/home/albert/.config/google-chrome
2>&1 >> /dev/null

I get this error:

Gtk-Message: 15:31:01.011: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

... and chromium remains closed.

The chromium-browser and the command above worked fine until before the

[Bug 1885566] [NEW] Update manager pops up many times per day

2020-06-29 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

When the update manager pops up with relative minor updates, if I am
working on something important, I close the updater window, and don't
expect it to pop up again until the next day. This expectation comes
from using Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 for some years. In Ubuntu 20.04,
closing the update manager results in the update manager poping up
again, multiple times (closing it multiple times), despite the settings
being configured so that it only checks for updates once a day.

[Bug 1880246] Re: Java desktop application freezes with openjdk 8u252

2020-06-10 Thread Albert Cardona
A workaround has been found: launch the application and refrain from
clicking away to any other application. When the Fiji java application
is fully launched and ready, then it isn't frozen. Seems to work
reliably so far.

[Bug 1882879] [NEW] Filled out form fields disappear after saving to docx/doc with LibreOffice writer.

2020-06-10 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Package version: libreoffice-writer 1:6.4.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1amd64

Steps to reproduce:
===
 1. Open a docx containing forms such as the attached IPR declaration form.

 2. Fill out some of the form fields.

 3. Save the file and reopen it with LibreOffice writer.

 4. Form fields that have been filled out are no longer visible.

Fix:

- Updating LibreOffice to 6.4.4 (either from the official site or from
ppa:libreoffice/ppa fixes this problem.

Further Notes:
==
- The form data can actually be recovered by opening the file with AbiWord (to
my best knowledge, neighter Microsoft Word nor the fixed version of LibreOffice
are able to recover the data).

[Bug 1880246] Re: Java desktop application freezes with openjdk 8u252

2020-06-08 Thread Albert Cardona
Update: if run the Fiji launcher ```Image-linux64 --system``` (runs Fiji
with java 8u252) and don't click anywhere until the Fiji window is open
and ready, then the UI is responsive as expected (i.e. all is good).

But if I click away to another application while Fiji is launching, then
the UI, when ready, is frozen.

A workaround is then to either be patient and not click anywhere, or to
use the 8u172 java bundled with Fiji, which doesn't have this UI
freezing problem. (Merely run Fiji like ```ImageJ-linux64```, assuming
the Fiji.app/java/linux-amd64/ folder is populated with java jdk 8u172).

[Bug 1882376] [NEW] Can't connect to external audio TaoTronics TT-BA07

2020-06-06 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

>From my iphone and chromebook I can see the external speakers plugged to
a TaoTronics TT-BA07 bluetooth device.

But from Ubuntu 20.04, the device doesn't appear listed in the settings.
There is listed a deviced named "1" that, when connecting to, appears to
be a sound device, but from the sound settings "test" buttons I can't
get any sound to play.

Any hints as to how I could triage this issue and collect more details?

[Bug 1881199] [NEW] [SoundCore mini, playback] No sound at all from Rhythmbox

2020-05-28 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

After connecting via bluetooth the Soundcore Mini, I can get sound to
play through it just fine from e.g. the Chromium browser, but not from
Rhythmbox, which instead always plays from the laptop's internal
speakrs.

In the bluetooth settings, Soundcore Mini is connected. In the sound
settings, Soundcore Mini is selected, and the "Test" button opens an UI
that lets me play test sounds, and it works. And indeed it works for
e.g. Google Chrome for a youtube video. But Rhythmbox plays through the
internal speakers no matter what. I've tried restarting Rhythmbox,
removing the ~/.pulse_secure/pulse/ folder with settings and then
running "pulseaudio -k", and then restarting Rhythmbox, to no avail.

[Bug 1872671] Re: [Focal] Policy files are missing

2020-05-28 Thread Albert Damen
Trying to build the focal proposed package, it seems adding the mo files
to SOURCES.txt with sed instead of regenerating SOURCES.txt does the
job.

I changed debian/rules:
#rm -f horizon.egg-info/SOURCES.txt
sed -i 's/\(.*\)po$$/\1po\n\1mo/' horizon.egg-info/SOURCES.txt

Building the package with the original sources.txt, regenerating
sources.txt and changed sources.txt gives:

Counting non .mo files in python3-django-horizon_18.3.2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1_all.deb
Original SOURCES.txt: 4335
Regenerated SOURCES.txt: 4301
Changed SOURCES.txt: 4335

Counting .mo files
Original SOURCES.txt: 0
Regenerated SOURCES.txt: 96
Changed SOURCES.txt: 96

So changing SOURCES.txt adds the same number of .mo files without losing
any non .mo file.

Also it doesn't loose any .json files:
Original SOURCES.txt: 21
Regenerated SOURCES.txt: 3
Changed SOURCES.txt: 21

The resulting package works fine and solves the problems for non-admin
users.

[Bug 1880243] Re: can't hide desktop icons neither with dconf-editor nor with gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons

2020-05-25 Thread Albert Cardona
Thanks @vanvugt, so there are 3 UI ways of hiding the desktop icons, but
only one works:

$ gnome-shell-extension-prefs

... then switch off the desktop-icons extension.

(Nevermind that gnome tweaks, under "Extensions", listed the desktop-
icons gnome shell extension as disabled.)

The bugs are then the mere existence of the other two UI ways of hiding
desktop icons.

When launching the java desktop application Fiji (https://fiji.sc) using

[Bug 1880243] [NEW] can't hide desktop icons neither with dconf-editor nor with gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons

2020-05-22 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

In attempting to hide all desktop icons, I can't.

1. With dconf-editor, org/gnome/desktop/background/show-desktop-icons ,
I set the value to False, and yet the icons show.

2. With gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons, despite disabling it, it
still doesn't work (can change the size of the icons, but can't hide all
icons when deactivating the extension).

What's the appropriate approach to disable desktop icons?

[Bug 1871640] Re: Apache2 needs access to /var/lib/openstack-dashboard/

2020-04-17 Thread Albert Damen
openstack-dashboard:
  Installed: 3:18.2.1~git2020041013.754804667-0ubuntu1

Situation got worse now.
Package does: find /var/lib/openstack-dashboard -type f -exec chmod 0640 "{}" +
-o -type d -exec chmod 0750 "{}" +

which makes all directories under /var/lib/openstack-dashboard/static
unreachable for apache and gives "Insecure permissions on key file
/var/lib/openstack-dashboard/secret_key, should be 0600".

(static files are served by apache directly, due to:
Alias /horizon/static /var/lib/openstack-dashboard/static/
in /etc/apache2/conf-available/openstack-dashboard.conf)

[Bug 1773324] Re: [SRU] rabbitmqadmin shows %%VSN%% as version

2020-04-15 Thread Albert Damen
With Original package
rabbitmq-server:
  Installed: 3.6.10-1

~# rabbitmqadmin --version
rabbitmqadmin %%VSN%%

With upgraded package from proposed
rabbitmq-server:
  Installed: 3.6.10-1ubuntu0.1

~# rabbitmqadmin --version
rabbitmqadmin 3.6.10

I use rabbitmq as part of a small openstack test cluster. After the upgrade the
cluster still worked, I could see elements in openstack dashboard and
successfully started and deleted two instances.

[Bug 1872671] Re: Policy files are missing

2020-04-14 Thread Albert Damen
This issue seems to be caused by the regenerated SOURCES.txt file from:

horizon (3:18.0.1~git2020021409.bb959361b-0ubuntu3) focal;
urgency=medium

  * d/rules: Force regeneration of SOURCES.txt to ensure that generated
django{js}.mo files are included in binary packages, resolving issues
with translations (LP: #1862343).

That change includes .mo files in the package, but at the seem time
removed a number of files from the package, see the attached file.

[Bug 1872671] [NEW] Policy files are missing

2020-04-14 Thread Albert Damen
Public bug reported:

python3-django-horizon:
  Installed: 3:18.2.1~git2020032709.2c4470272-0ubuntu1

After a fresh install of openstack dashboard on focal, apache2 error.log
contains hundreds of error message about missing policy files:

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/openstack_dashboard/conf/neutron_policy.json

The policy files are indeed missing from the package:

dpkg -L python3-django-horizon | grep json$
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/horizon/xstatic/pkg/angular/data/errors.json
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/horizon/xstatic/pkg/angular/data/version.json
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/horizon-18.2.1.dev1.egg-info/pbr.json

Logging in with a normal user account (without admin role) still shows
the admin panel and buttons a normal user cannot use, like
identity/users "create user". Trying to use these either doesn't work or
throws errors like "Unable to retrieve xxx".

Copying the policy files from the source package solves the problem.

[Bug 1866187] Re: dnsmasq needs access to /var/lib/neutron/dhcp

2020-03-27 Thread Albert Damen
I re-installed the neutron node from scratch, with neutron
2:16.0.0~b3~git2020032420.a0e1b5804e-0ubuntu2

Now neutron-common postinst does chmod 0750 /var/lib/neutron which makes
the dhcp files unreadable:

[Bug 1866187] [NEW] dnsmasq needs access to /var/lib/neutron/dhcp

2020-03-05 Thread Albert Damen
Public bug reported:

I installed a fresh test cloud in focal. After creating some networks
and subnets, neutron-dhcp-agent complained:

sudo journalctl -u neutron-dhcp-agent -e
Mar 05 11:43:53 network dnsmasq[13211]: failed to load names from

/var/lib/neutron/dhcp/10ba1f15-651e-4ef6-aced-66e7cf3effad/opts: Permission

dnsmasq runs as user nobody and needs to read several files under
/var/lib/neutron/dhcp/

/var/lib/neutron/dhcp and /var/lib/neutron/dhcp/10ba1f15-651e-4ef6-aced-
66e7cf3effad have mode 750

Changing UMask=0027 to UMask=0022 in /lib/systemd/system/neutron-dhcp-
agent.service, deleting /var/lib/neutron/dhcp and restarting neutron-
dhcp-agent solves the problem.

[Bug 1864993] [NEW] platform.linux_distribution has been removed from Python3.8

2020-02-27 Thread Albert Damen
Public bug reported:

Running ceph-deploy in focal, using python3.8, results in an error
message:

[ceph_deploy][ERROR ] RuntimeError: AttributeError: module 'platform'
has no attribute 'linux_distribution'

It turns out platform.linux_distribution has been removed from python 3.8
(bpo-28167: Remove platform.linux_distribution, which was deprecated since 3.5.)

One option may be to use the new distro module from
https://pypi.org/project/distro/

As ceph-deploy already can use os-release as a fall-back option, I
changed ceph-deploy to use that as the first option and could create a
working ceph cluster.

[Bug 1854798] Re: Synaptics s3203 touchpad not working after update to kernel 4.15.0-72-generic

2020-01-21 Thread Albert Pool
@Dave Jones This issue is specific to 4.15: backporting a bugfix from a newer
kernel to the 4.15 series went wrong because the commit depended on another one
which was missing in 4.15. It's better to open a new bug if 5.3 has problems.
They might be specific to your hardware.

(Also, a live medium might not have the newest kernel from the 5.3 HWE series.
So please report your exact kernel version (use 'uname -r' in terminal) next
time.)

[Bug 1859632]

2020-01-16 Thread Albert Astals Cid
You should really add it to the wiki for yourself, *personally* i've
like 100 unread emails, half of which are people waiting for me to
review their code, so I really don't have time to add it myself.

Yeah, basically "stamps don't really work", they just work if you never
leave Okular user interface.

There's various bugs about it

2020-01-07 Thread Albert Pool
@Cliff Wong, your problem should be fixed as well. Please try the
4.15.0-74 kernel without any i8042 boot parameters to see whether you
can use both your touchpad and touchscreen again.

2019-12-10 Thread Albert Pool
Just got the -73 kernel running properly on Xenial (it refused to load
modules at first)

The Synaptics TM3289-002 touchpad in my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th
generation works again.

[Bug 1855487] Re: Touchpad & trackpoint on Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th gen broken as of 4.15.0-72-generic

2019-12-10 Thread Albert Pool
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1854798 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1854798

Just discovered that the -73 kernel, due to being unable to load modules
on Xenial, uses PS/2 rather than RMI4 to drive the touchpad which works
around the bug in any case. Anyway, my problem is similar enough to
leave this as a duplicate. In case -73 when released for Xenial does not
fix the problem, I'll report here.

[Bug 1855487] Re: Touchpad & trackpoint on Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th gen broken as of 4.15.0-72-generic

2019-12-09 Thread Albert Pool
I just got the kernel installed. As I'm doing this on a xenial-based
system there are some incompatibilities (it seems to be unable to load
modules, so GPU acceleration and internet stop working), but the
touchpad is definitely working again.
