"Can you describe how the 5.8 kernel was installed in this machine?" I've attached a history log for the earliest time that I can see 5.8 showing up. I'm not sure if it came from an apt update or Synaptic. "Is package "linux-modules-extra" installed?" That fixed it. linux-modules-extra-5.4.0-62-generic was installed, linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-40-generic was not installed. I had to attach a second keyboard to boot 5.8. Unable to enter password at "please unlock disk sda6_crypt" with Roccat keyboard.
