[Bug 338173] Re: backlight-brightness not changeable on samsung p560
This report still has some valid points. Although the 2.6.32 kernel now supports the serio force_release sysfs node, the users of the samsung p560 still have to insert which keys needs the forced key release. At the moment i do not know of any database which handels those cases, do you? Furthermore, after the keys are working, there are no backlight changes within the nouveau or within the nvidia driver. [Bug 338182] Re: Samsung P560 brightness keys block keyboard and produce all-or-nothing effect
I'm attaching a new cleaner patch against the current karmic kernel 2.6.31-10. It adds the necessary quirks for the Samsung P560 and P210 notebook. RE: [Bug 123920] Re: Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Keyboard/Mouse don't work
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this one. I've been sitting here trying to work out what the problem is. The bluetooth dongle is 0.5 meters away from the mouse and there is nothing in the way and the rechargeable batteries are new. There are no other 2.4GHz sources nearby - a wifi source is 10m away. I still have the same issue. The juddering is always there when I start the machine. I use just firefox, thunderbird and netbeans. Sometimes the juddering stops after a couple of hours, somethimes after 6 hours, most of the time it's still there at 7pm when I turn off the machine for the day. When browsing, this isn't an issue. When editing code and trying to place the cursor at an exact spot in the editor and then the cursor jumps away from the correct spot (just as I'm clicking for insertion) - this is a real pain. But, if no one else is experiancing this then it must be related to the way I originally set up the machine (nothing fancy, just a regular/vanilla install). [Bug 123920] Re: Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Keyboard/Mouse don't work
Update It's now 4 hours later than my last post and the juddering seems to have disappeared - not too sure what to put it down to. It's a big machine with dualcore, so it can't be processing power. Anyhow, if it returns I'll leave another post. [Bug 123920] Re: Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Keyboard/Mouse don't work
Just to add to this that I've just installed 8.10 and the dinovo mouse/keyboard work fine (after pressing the appropriate connect buttons). My only gripe is that there is a very bad lag on the mouse pointer - it slowly follows the physical mouse, requiring the hand to always compensate. On the other hand, a thousand thanks for getting the dinovo to work with a straight forward installation. [Bug 192788] Re: kacpid hogs cpu
(Tried this solution from manoj_isi and it worked - incredible but true...) Solution to kacpid which works fine for me : After booting windows when boot linux kacpid starts, (This seems to be the catalyst for the problem - dual boot going from Windows to linux) to stop it just cut the power supply to your PC including UPS if any , without shutting down (obviously after saving data) i.e. when linux desktop is active. (Did just that - ripped out the power cord and replaced and rebooted) Now power on ur machine, kacpid will not appear. (Problem solved?) [Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)
This is a sort of update. In my /etc/initramfs-tools/modules fbcon vesafb nvidiafb And in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer # blacklist nvidiafb # blacklist vesafb Now this is interesting. If my boot line DOES NOT include vga=XXX, I get virtual terms which are very crisp clean, very small beautiful font, probably 1440x900. However, my X is broke from this--I am using the nvidia-glx driver (not nvidia-glx-new). Jean Levasseur mentioned the incompatibility with the nvidiafb and nvidia-glx-new. Of course I can't get the full 1440x900 natively in X with the nv driver. To sum it up, using the above modules, I have a double-edged sword: * GUI is 1440x768 using nvidia-glx, and virtual terminals at 1024x768 when I specify vga=0x318 as a boot option. * GUI is 1024x768 using nv, and virtual terminals are 1440x900 (I think), when I don't specify vga=xxx as a boot option. [Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)
I did not realize this was a bug. I always had my virtual consoles at VGA quality, not realizing that higher resolutions were possible, until I experimented with different distros. When I started messing with vga=XXX I got the blank screens. The process below, similar to others, gets 1024x768 in the virtual consoles, though I get the native 1440x900 when running X. edited /etc/initramfs-tools/modules to include: fbcon vesafb commenting in blacklist file, /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer as such: # blacklist vesafb followed by sudo update-initramfs -u -k all -v and then edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, using boot option: vga=0x0318 For the boot option above, I chose the best vga mode from output of hwinfo --framebuffer (had to apt-get), which was 1024x768. I've nvidia Geforce 6150 Go, which gives 1440x900 in the GUI, so I will try the nvidia fb modules next. -- Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
