[Bug 1892290] Re: PXE load Focal initrd.img-5.4.0-42-generic always timeout
hi @xinliang - thanks for raising this bug, and for the info. I've got my way through to a grub build (I'm going to append some extra notes to your instructions) but, I'm unclear about where the: $ sudo apt install ./*.deb is supposed to be applied - are you doing this on your pxe/tftp server? Or does this need to be in the image that is being netbooted? (or both?) If it's going on the pxe/tftp server, what files is it providing/replacing to resolve the bug (ie is it updating a bootx64.efi image)? As promised - a little extra detail on the build notes: $ git clone -b applied/ubuntu/focal-updates https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2 $ cd grub2 $ git cherry-pick a6838bbc6726ad624bd2b94991f690b8e9d23c69 # this will throw an error $ git remote add upstream https://git.savannah.gnu.org/git/grub.git $ git fetch upstream $ git cherry-pick a6838bbc6726ad624bd2b94991f690b8e9d23c69 $ dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1892290 Title: PXE load Focal initrd.img-5.4.0-42-generic always timeout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1892290/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1778632] [NEW] sddm hangs with mouse cursor on blank screen when pam_mount.conf.xml is malformed(?)
Public bug reported: What you expected to happen: sddm would display the theme, dialogs etc that would allow me to login What actually happened: sddm loads far enough to show the mouse cursor, but the background is still black/blank/showing tty1 boot logs It doesn't go any further, and I can't login with it. A minimal series of steps necessary to make it happen: 1. install sddm 2. install libpam-mount 3. Add a minimal config to /etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml, ala: https://paste.debian.net/1030743/ - note the "malformed" entry does not have an sgrp attribute defined (I'm not convinced this actually constitutes a malformed entry) 4. run pam-auth-update and enable the entry "Mount volumes for user" 5. restart sddm At this point sddm hangs with a blank screen, and mouse cursor. There are no errors in logs, the only clue is that the PAM logging pauses This doesn't affect any other DMs that I've tried (lightdm, gdm3) ** Affects: sddm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778632 Title: sddm hangs with mouse cursor on blank screen when pam_mount.conf.xml is malformed(?) Re: [Bug 1766746] Re: Cannot save customized configurations - can only copy defaults
Hi again - I didn't see your second message, about IRC conversation, until just now. But this suggestion seems not to be the case. Here's my experiment: I modified a Gnome 2 panel and attempted to save it, but just copied the Bionic "current configuration." Failure. Then I suspended the computer. When I resumed, I saved the configuration, with Current Configuration selected. This time it worked. Just as I was able to save a modified Bionic config right after installation. I think it's significant that both times, I was able to save modifications to whatever config the session started with. After this success, I applied Redmond, modified it, and tried to save it. But what was saved was the modified Gnome 2. Which is the configuration that was active when the session started. I'm pretty sure that having Current Configuration selected saves the configuration that's active when you log in, not the configuration you have at the moment you save. I could be wrong, but I hope this helps. [Bug 1369424] [NEW] LibreOffice windows and dialogs do not receive focus on startup (KDE, Razorqt)
Public bug reported: I hope I've got the correct package to log this against. Symptom: LibreOffice dialogs (such as password prompts, plaintext/csv imports etc) do not receive WM focus if a LibreOffice app is running and minimised. This causes a fairly severe usability issue, where it seems like LibreOffice has crashed, since nothing seems to happen when you click (and continue to click) to open a file that requires user action on a dialog. I've replicated the issue in KDE and RazorQT which is why I'm logging it against this qt-x11 package. It affects 12.04 and 14.04 (tested, I imagine there are more) The issue does not occur in Unity or Gnome. I made two videos - based on: Ubuntu 12.04, bog standard install. Add kde via: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop add this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-4-3 upgrade all libreoffice packages to 4.3.0.4: sudo apt-get install $(dpkg -l | grep libreoffice | awk '{print $2}') Video 1: Unity Desktop, expected (correct) behaviour https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxhtBAYzjZj5V1V1NjRTRVRKZ0E/edit?usp=sharing Video 2: Logged out of Unity, logged into KDE Desktop - unexpected behaviour, as described by this bug: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxhtBAYzjZj5ODZ2RG1GZHZtUEE/edit?usp=sharing ** Affects: qt4-x11 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: libreoffice -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1369424 Title: LibreOffice windows and dialogs do not receive focus on startup (KDE, Razorqt) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qt4-x11/+bug/1369424/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Harald, Thanks for the info - I thought I'd post it here since I can only replicate it in a live environment, which uses the ubuntu specific casper initramfs. Public bug reported: Summary: When I use LDAP to authenticate/create home directories on a live environment (casper initramfs), I get a kded crash every time I login, regardless of if the profile has been created yet or not. I can replicate this on the vanilla kubuntu live cd beta, I also build custom livecds from the 14.04 repos, and am still experiencing the issues with current packages (confirmed today) The same LDAP/PAM config on a hard disk install does not exhibit the symptom I've attempted to get some more diagnostic information with assistance from the kde forums, but I'm not really coming up with anything useful at the moment: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=120104&p=306273#p306273 I've attached the kcrash handler output for kded4 I also get a plasma-desktop crash on initial login, this does not occur on subsequent logins. [Bug 1037662] Re: flashplugin-installer does not honor proxy settings
Hi Walter, Thanks for the info, unfortunately it's still not available for trusty yet, but the flashplugin-installer has been available pretty much since the repo came online. Public bug reported: Distribution Release: 12.04 Precise Casper: 1.296 in scripts/casper-bottom/41apt_cdrom, if an apt repository is not configured in the root of the LiveCD, the script hangs the boot process waiting for input with the message: "Please provide a name for this Disc, such as 'Debian 5.0.3 Disk 1" Some sort of checking is needed here to see if the conditions required for the apt-cdrom repository are fulfilled, and to fail silently if they are not - I've attached a possible patch: * if /README.diskdefines does not exist in the root of the CDROM, exit with no error having said that I'm not certain of the role of the README.diskdefines file, so it may not be the best choice for checking. ** Affects: casper (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/909919 Title: scripts/casper-bottom/41apt_cdrom is missing some sanity checking, can cause hang on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/909919/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 335662] Re: [jaunty] hplip status service cannot find system tray
I want to keep to the 10.10 level. I have this problem. Someone asked for a data dump in one of the various places that lead up to here. sean@gamer ~ $ hp-check -t HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.11.3a) Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.3 Copyright (c) 2001-9 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run. 3.
