[Bug 711305]

2024-05-23 Thread I-dan-j
In Windows, delete the entry in Windows Environment:
In Windows Settings, search for environment | Choose "Edit system environment
variables"
Select "Environment Variables" and under "System Variables," DELETE the
environment variable MOZ_NO_REMOTE
It doesn't matter whether the variable value is set to 0 or to 1 — the mere
presence of the variable appears to cause this problem, including if you try to
send an email from Thunderbird from any browser.

[Bug 2047256] Re: Ubuntu 24.04 Some image thumbnails no longer displayed

2024-05-21 Thread Dan Olive
Hey Georgia, thanks for your reply.

My output:

141 profiles are loaded.
1 profiles are in unconfined mode.
   nautilus
23 processes have profiles defined.
(the rest are 0 like yours)

sudo aa-audit nautilus
Setting /usr/bin/nautilus to audit mode.
Warning: profile nautilus represents multiple programs

With nautilus closed, downloaded a jpg from wikipedia to Downloads and
opened it - no thumbnail.

ps -auxZ | grep nautilus
nautilus (unconfined) coolman 24199 5.2 0.2 2584440 132932 ?
Sl 17:32 0:00 /usr/bin/nautilus --new-window

no "nautilus" output in dmesg, lots of apparmor "profile_load"
operations for software I don't recognize though.

Appreciate any insight into what broke!

[Bug 2063040] Re: network-manager 1.46.0-1ubuntu2 on noble causes IPv4 address removal when no DHCP server is present

2024-05-21 Thread Dan Bungert
Hi Andreas, thanks for the bug report.

Subscribing "Ubuntu Sponsors" is intended for when a patch is available,
which isn't the case yet for this bug. For more details on that
process, I suggest reading
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Sponsorship/SponsorsQueue .

I'm removing Ubuntu Sponsors from the bug for now.

[Bug 2060740] Re: [SRU] fsattr fails to run

2024-05-21 Thread Dan Bungert
Hi Sudip, thanks for the work here.

> [ Where problems could occur ]
> There is no change in the code, it only changes a build dependency
> which will make fsattr functional.

Mostly this looks ok, but with some diffoscope analysis I note that
some binaries are indifferent to this change (fsmount_kernel and
fsmove change only NT_GNU_BUILD_ID) but others do notice this builddep
change (fsattr as expected, but also fsremap looks different.)
Do you mind investigating a little on fsremap? I think we want a bit
of a regression test there to try to ensure that making fsattr better
doesn't make fsremap worse. WDYT?

[Bug 2064350] Re: pam_userdb.so is missing

2024-05-01 Thread Dan Bungert
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+ * In the process of bootstrapping pam for time_t, libdb-dev was
+deliberately removed in salsa commit 65621d8 to allow libdb-dev to
+undergo time_t transition.
+ * The result of that is no pam_userdb.so in libpam-modules
+ * The fix takes the form of correcting a build dependency, which
+results in pam_userdb.so being again available.
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ * regression
+* obtain a noble test system - I personally used a noble chroot
+* adjust apt sources and ensure noble-proposed is present
+* install libpam-modules 1.5.3-5ubuntu5.1
+* login to the test machine with appropriate credentials - the
+ literal `login` command is useful here
+ * userdb functionality
+* start with the same test machine from the regression test
+* install db5.3-util
+* modify /etc/pam.d/login to comment out all `auth` lines, and add
+ this instead
+ ```
+ auth requisite pam_userdb.so db=/etc/dbtest
+ ```
+* create a textfile named `input` that looks like
+ ```
+ your_username
+ test_password - different than /etc/shadow
+ ```
+* `db5.3_load -T -f input -t hash /etc/dbtest.db`
+* login to the test machine with your_username and the
+ test_password - the literal `login` command is useful here
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ * As usual, no SRU has zero risk
+ * Any change to pam risks problems in user logins failing, so a
+basic regression test has been provided
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+ * None at this time
+
+ original description follows

+
The file is missing from libpam-modules.
This breaks, for example, existing vsftp configs if it is configured to use
pam_userdb.so

  Log:

vsftpd: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_userdb.so): /usr/lib/security/pam_userdb.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
vsftpd: PAM adding faulty module: pam_userdb.so

Apparently there was a change which removed this in the past, and it
might be the removal has not been undone, while the package has been
  released nevertheless.

http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/p/pam/pam_1.5.3-5ubuntu5/changelog

    * For now remove libdb-dev so that libdb-dev can undergo time_t
transition. That means this version of pam does not include
pam_userdb, which makes pam unsuitable for release.

[Bug 2064374] [NEW] ubuntu-24.04-desktop-amd64.iso initrd does not call cloud-initramfs-dyn-netconf

2024-05-01 Thread Dan Podeanu
Public bug reported:

ubuntu-24.04-desktop-amd64.iso initrd does not call cloud-initramfs-dyn-
netconf, therefore not initializing the network in initrd, breaking
loading the ISO from network (e.g., via the url= parameter).

ubuntu-24.04-live-server-amd64.iso initrd calls cloud-initramfs-dyn-
netconf from main/scripts/init-premount, therefore url= works as
expected.

** Affects: ubuntu

** Description changed:

[Bug 2058914] Re: [FFe] python-pytest-flake8 FTBFS against python-flake8 7

2024-04-30 Thread Dan Bungert
So this didn't make it to Ubuntu Noble before release, I think it would
need to be an SRU at this point.

As this is in Debian now, we can sync it (or allow auto-sync) for Ubuntu
Oracular. I'm explicitly syncing to satisfy the "Development Release Fixed
First" criteria.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Development_Release_Fixed_First

So if having this in Noble is desired, please fill out the template
found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template

Thanks!

[Bug 2062377] Re: Ubuntu 24.04: gnome-shell crashes on Xorg if a legacy X11 cursor theme is selected

2024-04-29 Thread Dan Ste
I've also encountered this bug/crash since I always change the cursor to
DMZ-White when I install Ubuntu and I reckon other ex-Windows users might also
do. Before that I've noticed this weird "X" cursor when desktop was loading
(see attachement).
I've replicated the bug using only the live USB (try without installing Ubuntu
24.04). Just apt install gnome-tweaks and then change cursor to DMZ-White leads
to crashing. Re-tried by first installing Nvidia drivers with no difference.

[Bug 2063252] Re: warning: option 'size' missing for zfs encryption install

2024-04-25 Thread Dan Bungert
As a workaround, updating /etc/crypttab to have the following options in
the 4th column of the dm_crypt swap device should silence the warning:

swap,initramfs,size=256,cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256,plain

It's also required to `update-initramfs -u` after updating crypttab.

[Bug 2063252] Re: warning: option 'size' missing for zfs encryption install

2024-04-23 Thread Dan Bungert
From the plymouth side, some configs show this and some do not, so I
think there is room to make the messages go away there. Notably Ubuntu
Desktop doesn't show those messages.

On the Subiquity side, we surely can build crypttab in a way to make the
warnings go away.

[Bug 2061180] Re: 24.04 beta: Subiquity fails with "Something went wrong"

2024-04-12 Thread Dan Bungert
Hi Hadmut Danisch, thanks for the report.

There isn't much to go on here, or even that the failure was related to
the Installer itself. At that crash dialog should be an option to
collect data and report, or if that isn't happening, a tarball of the
contents of /var/log/installer would be good. With that information we
can start to debug.

[Bug 2060897] Re: Xubuntu installation failed: RuntimeError: aborting install since no mirror is usable

2024-04-11 Thread Dan Bungert
So this outcome is not limited to xubuntu. I was able to produce the
same result with the base desktop ISO as well.

The key here is a "deadnet" type configuration - active networking but not
going anywhere.
I was however able to make the install work on the deadnet by setting the
autoinstall policy
apt: {fallback: offline-install}

The code equivalent of that is a proof-of-concept that I think is
overdue to make real, in
https://github.com/canonical/subiquity/pull/1816, except I think server
wants this default also and that PR applies this policy value change to

After discussion with Chad, we have decided that the low risk plan for
24.04 is for subiquity to inform cloud-init that the dpkg_grub module
should not be used. Will implement.

[Bug 2060617] [NEW] epic5: FTBFS: functions.c:7547:15: error: implicit declaration of function ‘strptime’; did you mean ‘strftime’? [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build
on amd64.

This is most likely caused by a change in dpkg 1.22.6, that enabled
-Werror=implicit-function-declaration. For more information, see

[Bug 2060568] Re: v2_guided_POST: KeyError: 'reset_partition_size' on Budgie

2024-04-08 Thread Dan Bungert
Root cause: the ubuntu-budgie-installer was present, with 2 snaps
attempting to provide subiquity behavior. It appears that subiquity
from ubuntu-budgie-installer was matched with the ubuntu-desktop-
bootstrap client.

Fixing by removing ubuntu-budgie-installer in livecd-rootfs.

When I tested this on yesterdays ISO, closing the installer, running

[Bug 2057454] Re: [Ubuntu 24.04] Failed to Install Ubuntu 24.04 with ISO attached to VirtualMedia of OSM.

2024-04-08 Thread Dan Bungert
The most critical problem in these logs are the decompression failures
and media read failures I listed in this comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/subiquity/+bug/2057454/comments/9.
The network items can be resolved, Subiquity cannot be expected to
install when bad media is present.

I need you to verify the install media. Please go back to the ISO
you're trying to install from, make sure the expected checksum matches
what checksum we list for that ISO, and download a new one if necessary.

If you still see problem after verifying the ISO, consider installing by
way of USB key instead of your VirtualMedia setup to help narrow which
component is failing.

Thanks.
