[Bug 450787] [NEW] MTRR Invalid Argument at LiveCD, nvidia hardware
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core Hi, I downloaded a Daily Build Image and packed it on a USB Stick just to try 9.10 Karmic Koala. Uname -a 2.6.31-13-generic Sat Oct 10 15:27:55 When I boot the system on the stick with no options, for a few seconds I can see the new splash screen, then the screen goes black instantly. When the system is booted (the led on the stick stops blinking), I'm not seeing anything, still the same black screen. The screen didn't blink (switching modes). I can't switch to the ttys ether. Pushing power off, reboots normally, but still no screen on the shutdown. If I choose save graphics mode, it's the same. Only if I remove quiet and splash from the grub line, I can boot to the command line and switch the ttys. When i enter startx gnome starts but crashes immediately (the Desktop and the mouse is visible for a few seconds, but no interaction possible). xserver throws this error: error setting MTRR (base=0xfb00, size=0x00e0, type=1) Invalid argument (22) My system is a Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop, with a Geforce 8600M GT When I use the Ubuntu 9.10 Beta (not daily build) I don't get this error, the system is working normally. Hi, I open this bug, but it is very old I think. So I think I can close or delete the bug. And I can't confirm if this bug still exists, because I sold the computer on which I had this bug. Same Problem here. Just updated to Hardy. And the Wireless (with iwl3945) is some kind of unusable. nm-applet won't find any networks. [Bug 112514] Re: Firefox Menu Font Size Is To Large
Yes I do more or less, because I found some way to compensate. I use nautilus as file manager and set the font there on a 12 so it looks like a 10 on the xfce. Then I changed the xfce System Font to 10 and the font in Firefox shrinked to nearly the nautilus desktop size. So it is still a bit larger but not as bad as it was on my screenshot. [Bug 112502] Re: gkrellm can show / sensors can't show the hardware sensors
Hi, I read in the bug report for the sensors-applet (Bug #94558) that there was a problem in hdd-temp with invalid characters in the hdd description, so I installed the version 0.3-beta15-36 of hdd-temp. This resolves the problem with the name of the hdd and a glitch in the sensor-applet of gnome. But I have still a non functioning xsensors, xfce-sensors-applet and sensors. The new hdd-temp didn't change anything for my problem. $ ls /proc/acpi/thermal_zone THZN THZV $ cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THZN/temperature temperature: 54 C $ cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THZV/temperature temperature: 67 C $ sudo hddtemp /dev/sda /dev/sda: HTS548080M9AT00: 40°C It looks like everything is there but isn't used by sensors I guess. Maybe I'm wrong with setting up the sensors or missed something. But gkrellm and sensors-applet (gnome) does show the right information. Any hints are welcome. Just ask for more debug info. [Bug 114815] Can't set (for me) important partition options
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-mount Hi, I have a FAT and a ntfs partition on my system. I would like to hide (or no automounting) the ntfs partition, so I edited fstab, but the partition is still mounted on startup. And I like to set the uid, gid, noauto and exec for the fat partition, but this isn't working. I found a guide that said to set those options right click on a device. Uh windows feeling and: - the mountpoint isn't moveable. It only uses /media - the options must be separated by spaces and not by commas like in fstab (not very intuitive) - if I set common options like user(s) und defaults it says invalid option, but it don't say which options are valid. - you can set the security relevant option exec and uid but can`t set gid... The owner of my partitions is root, group plugdev and not me. From man gnome-mount Note that HAL has a notion of what mount options are valid for a given volume. They are listed in the HAL property volume.mount.valid_options on the device object representing the volume to mount.. Ok there are the possible options, but no word about why other options are not allowed and HOW TO CHANGE THEM. I thought I am the root or am I not? So I used hal-set-property but there is no documentation for it and it says succinct: This program attempts to set property for a device. Note that, due to security considerations, it may not be possible to set a property No additional words nessacery. One more outline from man gnome-mount In addition to using HAL as the mechanism for mounting file systems, the /etc/fstab file is also consulted as HAL will refuse to mount any file system listed in this file as it would violate system policy. If this is the case, gnome-mount will invoke mount(1) as the calling user rather than invoking the Mount method on the org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume interface on the device object representing the volume / drive. This means that settings (mount point, mount options, file system type) read by gnome-mount are not passed along as these are already specified in the /etc/fstab file and there are no mechanism to override them. When parsing the /etc/fstab file, gnome-mount (and also HAL for that matter) resolves symbolic links and also respects the LABEL= and UUID= notations. For example, if this line is in /etc/fstab LABEL=MyVolume /mnt/myvolume auto user, defaults 0 0 then gnome-mount mounts the file system with the label MyVolume via mount(1) and /etc/fstab rather than using the HAL mechanisms. This sounds like a solution but it is not working. Some options aren't interpreted or ignored, normal mounted drives can't be unmounted or are missing in places or computer. Another solution could be to change the policies in /etc/hal/fdi/policy by editing or creating a file (Not that beginner friendly). I have a lot of respect of such hacks. I would prefer if hal could also use the fstab as mentioned in the man. Thanks for reading. Done this, reboot, and run sensors that says: $ sensors No sensors found! Make sure you loaded all the kernel drivers you need. Try sensors-detect to find out which these are. But if I run gkrellm I have 3 temperature sensors. And the gnome-sensor-applet does show those 3. But sensors, xsensors and the xfce4-sensor-applet obviously can't show them on my ICH6 Laptop. Everything needed is loaded (and working see gkrellm) $ lsmod | grep i2c i2c_dev 8708 0 i2c_ec 5888 1 sbs i2c_i8019356 0 i2c_core 22784 4 eeprom,i2c_dev,i2c_ec,i2c_i801 Would be nice to have those temperature sensors running with the xfce-applet. [Bug 112514] Firefox Menu Font Size Is To Large
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xfdesktop4 Hi, I attached a screenshot of my desktop. I set the desktop font size to 10 and then to 12 and the strangely the firefox menu font was growing to a maybe 14. On the screenshot you see desktop icons, synaptic and firefox with the context menu left. The font size is way to large and annoying e.g. when you fill out forms. I don't want to set the desktop font size to 10 again. Thanks ** Affects: xfdesktop4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Firefox Menu Font Size Is To Large https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112514 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
