Re: [Bug 449260] Re: empathy needs a persistent new message indicator
The icon is easier to notice, but I'm still missing chats by about 8/10 mins. Also I still have no idea what the icon is indicating. An email? Chat message? If I receive an email and a text message the icon looks the same. Worse if I'm setting at my computer and see that an email just came through and then later receive a chat while I'm not looking at the screen I won't have any idea that a chat message is also waiting for me. [Bug 449260] Re: empathy needs a persistent new message indicator
Yeah, I think a better behavior for the indicator applet would be to flash when a chat is received and do what it's doing now for indications that don't require immediate attention like emails, gwibbers, etc Because the problem isn't really I-A not being obvious enough, it's that more then one thing sets it off and these various things set it off in the same way. So to summaries we should make different classes of alerts and assign different indicator-applet actions in response to these different alert classes... imo -- empathy needs a persistent new message indicator https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449260 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 449260] Re: empathy needs a persistent new message indicator
No it's not about the window not showing when you click on the alert in the indicator applet, this is about not knowing that you have a chat message available. I don't care if it blinks, but the behavior as it is now causes chats to go unanswered. [Bug 460714] [NEW] Mount errors during usplash

[Bug 452772] [NEW] Rt kernels sometimes hang at boot
Public bug reported: The RT kernels sometimes hang at boot, this always happens with a newly installed version and periodically afterwards. What happens is the usplash comes up the dies down and the fan starts howling. The screen gets stuck on black and only holding the power button will end it. The screen is still on by the way, I'm talking about black as in off as the backlight is still on. Usually after trying 5 or 6 times it will boot, attempting to switch to a tty also seems to help a bit. [Bug 451169] [NEW] Performance really dropped with 2.6.31-8-rt
Public bug reported: Performance has really taken a hit with the latest RT kernel... X-runs are quite a bit more frequent and general performance of the desktop is poor, it even hard locked on me forcing an ugly reboot. The general performance of the stock kernel is fine however. I think this may have something to do with the dynamic ticks feature being turned off. Only 3 things were changed according to the change log and only one is unique to the rt kernel. [ Alessio Igor Bogani ] * Fix a package description error * Dynamic Ticks off by default [ Luke Yelavich ] * Update to Ubuntu mainline kernel v2.6.31-13.45. * Set CONFIG_X86_PAT=y as per mainline. Ok I added the nohz=on option and ran hydrogen, qsynth, and rosegarden all synced with ardour through jacktrans(via qjackctl). I recorded the audio from hydrogen and qsynth into ardour(2 mono tracks). I also had evolution, gwibber, empathy and skype running. I only experienced 3 xruns at 5.something latency. Yeah something is wrong with the kernel that gets fixed when you enable this option. Try booting without the nohz=on option and see if you get even better performance. [Bug 449260] [NEW] empathy needs a persistent new message indicator
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy In adium when you receive a new message the dock icon constantly flashes until you check the message. This is great for times when you may not be looking at your computer or step out of the room.. etc. With Empathy you get one popup bubble and the indicator-applet becomes colored in with gray. The indicator applet really doesn't grab your attention as it changes color for many reasons(gwibber, email). This means that unless your looking at the screen or have empathy visible you will miss the new message. This is fine for email but not for IMs. So I'm requesting that empathy gets some kind of persistent new message option, that will draw my attention even if empathy is nowhere on my screen, while not being annoying(like something that steals focus). Since gnome doesn't use a Dock and repeating or never ending notification bubbles would be messy, perhaps having the indicator applet repeatedly flash a loud color when new chat messages are received would be a good option. I don't know that's just a suggestion, the main point is that this problem needs to be worked out. [Bug 447682] [NEW] Spellcheck does not work properly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: epiphany In Epiphany 2.28.0 if you enable the spell checker misspelled words show up with a red underline. In all other apps right clicking on the word shows suggestions, but not with epiphany. With epiphany you have to first highlight the word; even worse, picking one of the suggested words causes the word you were attempting to spellcheck to be erased and not replaced with the suggested word you selected. That's right, I'm saying that spell check in epiphany operates as a delete button and that's it. This is very easy to recreate just misspell a word, enable spell checking in the right click menu, click show spelling and grammer(this too is a bug because you only have to do it once and the spell check should be enabled by ticking the enable spell check box), misspell word, highlight it, right click it, and select suggested word.
