[Bug 665269] Re: system hangs very randomly, possibly due to dvb hardware
** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: on this pc, i want to use it as a mediacenter, the system freezes or hangs randomly. Observations: - system freezes definitively, does never wake up from freeze - when occurring during media playback, audio hangs in a 500ms loop, video always freezes - system does not respond to ssh, ping or vnc during freeze - system does not respond to kernel shortcuts ( e.g. alt+print+reisub ) So the only thing i can do yet is to hard reset the pc, i have not found a way to get more info for this bug. I just know it happens on mythbuntu 10.04 and 10.10. I have tried to test the hardware, started with harddisks (both smart and new partitioning) - nothing I ran the system for two days without much hardware (only one harddisk, no pci-dvb-s card, no usb dvb-t) and could not reproduce, so i thought it must be a hardware problem with one of them. But it happens with either one of them installed. i have tried all the mainline kernels, and they head to the same random crash. You can see on the pictures: right-above: cat /proc/kmsd right-down: tail -f /var/log/syslog l-a: tail -f /var/log/messages l-d: tail -f /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend (this is just for me - to see if mythtv has anything to do with it - which it seems not as the system clock l-a freezes long after the last mythtvlog appeared.) You can see i get nothing out of the logs :( I also tried out without the dvb hardware (removed usb-stick and pci- card) and its still (randomly) reproduceable. i will try to reproduce with even less hardware on. i think this is rather a wishlist, as it would introduce a new feature. @nanley: The feature would be to disable it completely, so no email- checks are done (no password / email data through unsecure wifi-nets), However, this can now be done easily with $ killall mail-notification, if you are skilled, you could even write a script to tell nm to kill mail-notification once (unsecure) wifi is enabled. [Bug 665269] [NEW] system hangs very randomly, possibly due to dvb hardware
Public bug reported: on this pc, i want to use it as a mediacenter, the system freezes or hangs randomly. [Bug 658693] [NEW] evolution calender no longer usable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I use evolution only as a calendar-viewing-program, because of the good intergration in gnome. Since i tried to sync with my mobile-phone trough bluetooth (tried multiple programs like syncevolution and opensync with irmc and gnokii) it somehow corrupted evolution. This means that I cannot any calendar data, it just gives an error. No Problem, i thought, lets just erase all userdata (i use only calendars anyway). So I stopped evolution, removed .evolution .config/apps/evolution logged out -- Then i redid all the config (i thought i had a fresh evolution) and the error (cannot add new calendar data) persisted. I even did the following: logged out, on tty1 I purged most of evolution-packages (just the ones you cannot remove due to dependencies with gnome), removed the userdirs on the console, shutdown, reinstalled the packages -- error persisted Even with a new user, or other old useraccounts, evolution-calendar stays unusable! I consider myself as an experienced user, but this happened to me today (totaly my own fault) But still, it would be great if before formatting the stick you ask again: Are you shure you want do format /dev/sdx PARTITIONDESCRIPTIONS this will delete all your data at this drive thats a typical thing you suspect to be asked before really formatting a drive. Hope you consider this. [Bug 273481] Re: should provide means to format usb stick
its good that now the option is present, but there is currently no warning if you really want to format the usb disk, see this bugreport: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/443330 -- should provide means to format usb stick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273481 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 380741] Re: [karmic] fn+f8 swich from trackpad to touchpad broken on thinkpad [regression]
following the steps provided, here is my xev output: kar...@karlrt-laptop$ xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p' # pressing fn + f8 once, result in terminal keycode 200 = (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), state = 0x0 keycode 200 = (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), state = 0x0 so there is a keypress events, but in gconf-editor i coulnt find any hotkey setup for trackpoint - touchpad switch as it is not very common... However i attach udev and dmesg output and others. ** Attachment added: dmesg.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32854070/dmesg.log -- [karmic] fn+f8 swich from trackpad to touchpad broken on thinkpad [regression] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/380741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
