[Bug 862231] Re: Compiz Window Decorator fails on Evolution Compose New Email

2012-05-04 Thread karlrt
I got this in 11.10, just recently updated to 12.04 and still got the
fullscreen without menu behavior of evolution.

Then i disabled legacy support and everything worked fine, so i thought
this bug is yet not fixed, but after wanting to get a screenshot and
enabling fullscreen legacy support again: evolution still stays in its
window borders.

So everything works as it should, just had the disable and reenable the
fullscreen legacy support (i got here because of google - might be
interesting for future readers)

[Bug 665269] Re: system hangs very randomly, possibly due to dvb hardware

2010-12-06 Thread karlrt
** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

on this pc, i want to use it as a mediacenter, the system freezes or
  hangs randomly.

  Observations:
  - system freezes definitively, does never wake up from freeze
  - when occurring during media playback, audio hangs in a 500ms loop, video
always freezes
  - system does not respond to ssh, ping or vnc during freeze
  - system does not respond to kernel shortcuts ( e.g. alt+print+reisub )

So the only thing i can do yet is to hard reset the pc, i have not found
a way to get more info for this bug. I just know it happens on mythbuntu
  10.04 and 10.10.

I have tried to test the hardware, started with harddisks (both smart and new
partitioning) - nothing
I ran the system for two days without much hardware (only one harddisk, no
pci-dvb-s card, no usb dvb-t) and could not reproduce, so i thought it must be
a hardware problem with one of them. But it happens with either one of them
installed.

[Bug 665269] Re: system hangs very randomly, possibly due to dvb hardware

2010-12-06 Thread karlrt
i have tried all the mainline kernels, and they head to the same random
crash. You can see on the pictures:

right-above: cat /proc/kmsd
right-down: tail -f /var/log/syslog
l-a: tail -f /var/log/messages
l-d: tail -f /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend (this is just for me - to see if
mythtv has anything to do with it - which it seems not as the system clock l-a
freezes long after the last mythtvlog appeared.)

You can see i get nothing out of the logs :(

I also tried out without the dvb hardware (removed usb-stick and pci-
card) and its still (randomly) reproduceable. i will try to reproduce
with even less hardware on.

A heavy memory-scan over night didnt find any errors.

[Bug 511511] Re: Nautilus not start

2010-12-03 Thread karlrt
I can confirm this. Is there anyone accually having no problems with
nautilus integration in docky at all? I had this with gnome-do in 10.04,
and now the same again with docky in 10.10, on different hardware and
installations, so it looks like a very general issue!

I also think this is a serious issue, because it is wide-spread (everyone uses
a file-browser every day, and wants to use it in docky)
If you look at the bug heat, this bug is the hottest in docky, so IMHO it
shouldnt be considered as low importance!

[Bug 682228] [NEW] [Regression] No evolution plugin in lucid maverick

2010-11-27 Thread karlrt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do-plugins

I just found out that the evolution plugin as mentioned in
http://do.davebsd.com/wiki/Evolution_Plugin is not listed in gnome-do
binaries, at least in maverick. This question
https://answers.launchpad.net/do/+question/135641 states it has been
gone in lucid already.

There are two ways to fix this bug

1) get evolution-do-plugin back on work

2) clearly state that there is no evoplugin working right now (update
the deb description, update wiki, a.s.o.)

[Bug 44086] Re: mail-notification's icon in the notification area has got a solid grey background.

2010-11-23 Thread karlrt
This seems to be a new issue, not a direct regression to the old bug
fixed in edgy. For me, it was rather this bug, which affects a lot of
packages:

https://launchpad.net/~cyfex/+archive/ppa

I tested a fix for gnome-panel, which works perfectly:

Just add https://launchpad.net/~cyfex/+archive/ppa and see if this fixes
it. If not, you can still reopen this bug!

[Bug 311173] Re: mail-notification crashes with segmentation fault if Gmail inbox is set

2010-11-23 Thread karlrt
i have just installed on maverick, and it works just fine with gmail
(but i havent used it before..)

Perhaps its a problem with the particular account? try another, or
another password? I dont know but one (might be stupid) suggestion: all
affected people have polish names, so might be something with an extra
char in the username / password?

[Bug 61205] Re: no option to disable temporarily

2010-11-23 Thread karlrt
i think this is rather a wishlist, as it would introduce a new feature.

@nanley: The feature would be to disable it completely, so no email-
checks are done (no password / email data through unsecure wifi-nets),

However, this can now be done easily with $ killall mail-notification,
if you are skilled, you could even write a script to tell nm to kill
mail-notification once (unsecure) wifi is enabled. It would be a cool
feature if you e.g. watch a film, but i think the handling of
notification-supression should be done by gnome.

[Bug 665269] [NEW] system hangs very randomly, possibly due to dvb hardware

2010-10-22 Thread karlrt
Public bug reported:

on this pc, i want to use it as a mediacenter, the system freezes or
hangs randomly.

But it happens with either one of them
installed.

[Bug 660783] [NEW] after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2010-10-14 Thread karlrt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

First, i thought i had this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/346310
But for the original bugreporter, maverick solved all the issues. For me, a
fresh maverick install (no upgrade) doesnt help. This is the behavior:

1) suspend
2) resume, quite fast, only 2 seconds, and i see desktop and can type, video
sound are working (resumed while playing video)
3) it takes about 5 more seconds that mouse movements are working.

This is a fresh install, hardware is a thinkpad t61 (hardware.txt for
detailed info), no flash opened, reproducable without wifi on.

[Bug 658693] [NEW] evolution calender no longer usable

2010-10-11 Thread karlrt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I use evolution only as a calendar-viewing-program, because of the good
intergration in gnome. Since i tried to sync with my mobile-phone trough
bluetooth (tried multiple programs like syncevolution and opensync with
irmc and gnokii) it somehow corrupted evolution. This means that I
cannot any calendar data, it just gives an error.

No Problem, i thought, lets just erase all userdata (i use only
calendars anyway). So I stopped evolution, removed .evolution
.config/apps/evolution logged out -- Then i redid all the config (i
thought i had a fresh evolution) and the error (cannot add new calendar
data) persisted.

I even did the following: logged out, on tty1 I purged most of
evolution-packages (just the ones you cannot remove due to dependencies with
gnome), removed the userdirs on the console, shutdown, reinstalled the packages
-- error persisted
Even with a new user, or other old useraccounts, evolution-calendar stays
unusable!

2010-05-07 Thread karlrt
i just figured out that lucid starts the script only at the end of the
bootprocess. My boot takes 35 seconds, at 30 seconds,
/etc/init.d/ondemand ist started, with the 60 seconds in the script
lucid leaves me 55 seconds in performance for nothing, this is really
annoying once on battery power!

for me, killing gdm and suspending with pm-suspend or /etc/acpi/sleep.sh

must be kernel problem. (takes about 5 sec after console shows up to be

Cannot reproduce with another t61: 6460-6WG, hardware details see:

it has nvidia grafics and an older processor.

keycode 200 = (keysym 0x1008ffa9, XF86TouchpadToggle), state = 0x0
keycode 200 = (keysym 0x1008ffa9, XF86TouchpadToggle), state = 0x0

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-
daemon/+bug/37643 i think there lies the problem:

in gnome-settings-daemon, they implemented a housekeeping plugin:

- Added a new housekeeping plugin to set limits on the size and age of the
  thumbnail cache

I think this housekeeping mechanism just goes crazy and checks my 32.000
thumbs every boottime for consistency. Perhaps someone could check if
thats it? Should we reopen the old bug because their fix braught up this
problem?

[Bug 505085] Re: gnome-settings-daemon extensive disk usage

2010-01-15 Thread karlrt
i agree these values are high, but honestly, i got enough space to have
these thumbnails saved, and its quite comfortable to browse through
large photo-directories without having to regenerate the thumbs.

the real bug here is that it takes g-s-d 5-10 minutes to evaluate if
some thumbs should be kept or deleted. Deleting files older then 180
days shouldnt take that long!

[Bug 449401] Re: nm 0.8 lacks feature to unlock SIM by PUK

2009-12-20 Thread karlrt
can reproduce this bug with karmic and lucid:

After blocking your sim (e.g. 3 times wrong pin) everytime you try to
connect, nm fails to connect instantly without giving you any error.

So Modem is no longer usable until you unblock it with windows or
another linux distro where it works (like jaunty) Thats why i think this
bug is quite serious, it can lead to a lot of trouble.

[Bug 449484] [NEW] austrian provider drei - 3 with wrong name (three) [Regression]

2009-10-12 Thread karlrt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mobile-broadband-provider-info

In Karmic, the austrian provider 3 (in german drei) ist called three,
but thats not the real-name of the provider, rather a english
translation.

For further detail you can see www.drei.at. Officially, the provider is
called Hutchison 3G Austria GmbH, in contracts often shortened to the
number 3, so all austrian customers know it is called drei (german
spelling for the number 3)

In Jaunty, the provider info was drei allready, so this is a regression

[Bug 380741] Re: [karmic] fn+f8 swich from trackpad to touchpad broken on thinkpad [regression]

2009-10-11 Thread karlrt
thats from jaunty:

$ xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\),
.*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p'
keycode 200 = (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), state = 0x0
keycode 200 = (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), state = 0x0

i'm sorry its no regression from jaunty, i used 8.04 for a long time, i
thought it was enabled by default but i did so in xorg:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Ubuntu_8.04_(Hardy_Heron)_on_a_ThinkPad_T61#TrackPoint

since then it worked fine. the same wiki states that in jaunty, you dont
change through xorg but you fix it otherwhise:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Install_Ubuntu_8.10_(Intrepid_Ibex)_on_a_ThinkPad_T500#Enabling_Touchpad_on.2Foff_key

i will try if this works for karmic, if it does, is there any
possibility this will be the default option at least for t61?

2009-10-11 Thread karlrt
for me, this is a regression from jaunty, i just tried the livecd and
everything works fine:

plugged in from the start: detecting/connecting works
suspend/resume: detecting/connecting works
plug out/plug in again while sys is up: detecting/connecting works

so no problems under jaunty!

[Bug 443330] [NEW] USB Creator doesnt ask before formatting disks

2009-10-05 Thread karlrt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usb-creator

Something horrible happened to me today, but with testdisk and quick
reaction i got all my files back.

If you have usb-stick and a removable harddisk attached, and you dont
look at it at 100 % (difference between /dev/sdc and sdb) you can format
your harddisk without beeing asked again, just with one click!

I consider myself as an experienced user, but this happened to me today
(totaly my own fault) But still, it would be great if before formatting
the stick you ask again:

Are you shure you want do format /dev/sdx PARTITIONDESCRIPTIONS this
will delete all your data at this drive

thats a typical thing you suspect to be asked before really formatting a
drive. Hope you consider this.

[Bug 380741] Re: [karmic] fn+f8 swich from trackpad to touchpad broken on thinkpad [regression]

2009-10-02 Thread karlrt
following the steps provided, here is my xev output:

kar...@karlrt-laptop$ xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode
*\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p'
# pressing fn + f8 once, result in terminal
keycode 200 = (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), state = 0x0
keycode 200 = (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), state = 0x0

so there is a keypress events, but in gconf-editor i coulnt find any
hotkey setup for trackpoint - touchpad switch as it is not very
common... However i attach udev and dmesg output and others.
